Advice Pls On Fitness Video's

  • Hi,

I'm just starting out on my diet journey and i would like to start some gentle exercise. I'm 354 pounds in weight and i can't leave the house, i'm housebound. So i was trying to think of something i could do indoors that is cheap and gentle to start with.

So i was hoping someone could maybe suggest some fitness videos that i could do. I can't stress enough though that it must be gentle because i do not do any exercise at all at the moment. Any advice would be great, and i live in the United Kingdom aswell...just incase i can't by some international dvd's.

    Thank you,

    Sam
  • Dancing . . . you don't have to have a video to dance. Just put on my some music and start moving.

    Good luck to you.
  • Can you go for walks around your neighborhood?

Walk away the pounds might be a good low impact exercise for you if you can't get out of the house
  • Thank you both for your advice
I can't go walking because i'm housebound and i think
that dancing would be to much for me at the moment.
I have been researching on the internet and i have been
reading about Pilates. It sounds absolutely perfect for me,
low impact and good for people with back pain and arthritis.
So i'm going to ask my doctor and go with Pilates if he says
it's okay. Thank you so much though for your response and
    advice.

  • Pilates will be great for you - especially since you're interested in it.

I would also suggest Leslie Sansone walking videos - she uses four basic steps that are variations of marching in place, and she's just wonderful. Very encouraging and supportive. She also works in upper body with a lot of her workouts. If you think that may not be gentle enough yet, they are EASILY adapted to be done sitting in a chair - you can still move your legs and arms the same way they do (with one or two possible modifications)

There are also a few actual chair aerobics videos available (you can find them at Collage video on-line - wonderful company)

And finally, I'd suggest a basic beginner weight lifting routine you can follow, like Kathy Smith's Lift Weights to Lose Weight, or Tamilee Webb. You can start out with weights as light as you like and work your way up from there. I adore weight lifting
