Default Started C25K today

My goal is to run the Thanksgiving Day 5K with my dh this fall. I've got about 17 weeks until then, so I'll be extending the 9 week program until then. I plan on doing the first 8 weeks twice (and maybe doing 4 days/week instead of 3), and hopefully I'll be good and ready for the last week of the plan.

I did W1D1 tonight with dh. It wasn't so bad, but my knees and shins hurt a bit. I feel fine now, but wonder what tomorrow will be.

I know it'll get easier the more weight I lose, so I'll just keep on remembering that.

Way to go!! Congrats on finishing the first day. I'm planning on starting tomorrow. I'm walking a 5k soon, but would like to run one around Thanksgiving as well. I'm also planning on taking it slow - maybe twice as long, if I need to. Want to keep tabs on each other? Let me know - I know I could use the motivation and support.

Sure, Tani. It'll be nice to have someone else join me in this program.

W1D1: kicked my butt!!

But, I finished it. I really wanted to quit after the first 7 - 10 minutes, but it did seem to get better. I couldn't run the whole 60 seconds each time, either. They always seemed to come just as I was going uphill...

Anyway, W1D1: completed! :-)

Good luck! I promise it gets easier and easier, I couldn't run for more than 2 minutes without getting winded and today I did 5 minutes (twice!) with no problem. Best of luck to you!!!

Congrats!

I started C25K in April. I barely made it through W1D1. I'm now able to run over 40 minutes at a time and working toward a Thanksgiving 10k.

Keep it up! That program can really take you places!

I am one run away from "finishing" the C25K program and I can hardly believe it!

When I started, the 60 second runs were hard...really hard...then I got used to them and kept moving. Then I thought that the 5 minute runs would kill me for sure....then, 5 was a piece of cake.

Then 7? Then 10? The first 20 minute run I thought I was going to die...but I did it!

I can hardly believe it! Now I am running 30 straight minutes, and although I run slowly, I do the whole thing. In fact today, I ran an extra minute...just because I could.

I can't say enough good about the program and wish you all luck!

Yay! there is hope for me, I'm stuck on W2, tried doing the 90secs jog, can only do 60, but I will keep going.

One question, for anyone, do you stretch before and after, or just after? I only stretch after, just wondering if I can help my cause by warming up more?

I have read very conflicting things about stretching and running. Some say that stretching before you run can cause injury because the muscles are cold and stiff. Others say that stretching after when the muscles have lossened up can increase the likelihood of causing injury so it is bad.

GGrRRR!! I don't know. I don't stretch...maybe that's bad. I do the C25K warmup and cool down and leave it at that

I would love to hear what others are doing?!?

I finshed W1D2 this morning. It went a lot better than day 1. I jogged through the first four intervals, had to skip the 5th (going uphill and I couldn't get my breathing right), and jogged the rest! I'm actually feeling very proud of myself right now, and my body's feeling fine. The major soreness from Monday has gone, and while the remainder of my workout was harder to do than usual, I finished it too.

As far as stretching goes, I don't stretch well cold. So I've been doing the warm-up, then pausing my mp3 player (I'm using Podrunner Intervals) to stretch. That seems to be working well for me.

Great job, Daisy! I think mine's going to be on September 26. It may be a little too early, but its what I'm aiming for, even if I have to walk a bit of it.

Keep up the great work!
