Default i started exercising

hey guys, i've only posted on here once or twice. let me introduce myself, my name is emily, & i'm 15 years old. i decided that this new year i'm going to lose 50 pounds, & i'm going to start eating healthier. so far, i have lost 12 pounds.

since 01/01/09, i went on a 1,000 calorie-a-day diet. so far, so good. i haven't been eating out as much, eating sandwiches, salads, pretty much nothing with tons of sugar.

as of 5 days ago, i started using my wii fit again. in those 5 days, i have lost 5 pounds. just by doing 20 minutes of cardio (hoola hooping for 12 min., & running for 8 min.) + 100 crunches & 30 push ups without wii fit.

i am going to try to do the wii fit everyday for 20 minutes each day until i lose 38 pounds. i probably won't be able to do it everyday, but i REALLLLY want to come close.

sorry that this turned into more of an introduction, i'm just really excited! by the way, whoever is skeptical of the wii fit, just try it! it totally works.

First of all congrats on starting to exercise it's a good step towards your weight loss goal!

But- Why are you only eating 1000 calories a day? It's not healthy, you should be getting at least 1200 a day. You may lose weight but its not a good way to go about it. After a while your metabolism is going to slow down, you need a higher caloric intake a day, especially when you are exercising!

You will lose weight if you up your calories and exercise. If you eat too little calories your body will go into starvation mode.

Hopefully you up your calories for your health and keep up the exercise!! Good luck

Hello! Good for you for taking control of your health and your life! And I agree that the Wii Fit is a great start to get you active! I would also recommend some weight training, but since you are so young you would definitely need the assistance of a personal trainer who has worked with teens. I think you are on the right track, you just need to up your calories a bit. If you eat less than 1200 calories a day your body goes into starvation mode, your metabolism slows down, and when you start to eat more (which you will eventually) your body will store the majority of those calories as fat! Instead, you want a slow healthy fat loss, and to build some muscle at the same time. The muscle will raise your metabolism and also give you some nice tone when the fat comes off. I also recommend having a "treat meal" once a week where you can have a little bit of those yummy foods you like. The key here is a little bit! It's never good to totally deprive yourself because as soon as you say that a food is off limits, you are going to want it more than ever! Good luck!

the wii fit helps a lot. it's super hard for me to actually get out of the house to walk or run cosidering how cold it still is outside, so the wii helps me, plus it's a video game, haha. i usually do eat a treat on the weekend. i don't go overboard, it's usually an icecream cone from DQ or mcdonalds.

The fit is awesome! I enjoy doing a lot of the strength exercises. Keep up the good work. It is good to see younger people trying to take control. It's very important in shaping your future! You won't regret doing it! Just do make sure you're doing it healthy and balanced. Oh, and to the forum!!
