for some sort of small device I can use to listen to music to while I walk. I have a clunky old cassette player, but that thing really doen't work all that well... and I thought perhaps you folks that are more into the newest techy gadgets might be able to recommend something for me. I would love to download some great upbeat Praise and Worship to walk with.
I might be a bit biased too, but another vote for an iPod here. I love mine, I can listen to upbeat music while I'm walking, download and listen to podcasts while I'm walking, or just wear it and sing horribly offkey and very loud while I steam clean the carpet.
i say ipod shuffle, great little thing, fairly cheap and very durable.. i take mine snowboarding, and it can hold up to my fat butt falling on it lol. Also has great sound quality, and well i just love it.
Ipods are great, but they can be a bit pricey. You can get almost the exact same thing for about $20-30 at Walmart, Staples, Best Buy, etc. Just ask the clerk for a low-price MP3 player (which is what an Ipod is basically). For most people, 1GB is more than enough memory (hours and hours of music, over 150 normal songs on mine).
You don't have to worry about getting an expensive one, because they aren't necessarily nicer, they just have more memory, which isn't really necessary for the average person. A lot of them also play the radio.
Plus, with the Ipod shuffle, there's no screen telling you what song is playing, so you can't decide what you want to listen to.
Agreed, something like an iPod but not branded iPod if money is an issue. Figure $30-40 for something decent.
Look for Flash memory rather than a hard disk if it's going to get bounced around. (The tradeoff is smaller size and better functionality in running/jostling-type use versus greater storage capacity for the money.)
Another vote for the iPod, which I love because my entire music collection is all on one tiny device - I can never decide what I want to listen to until right when I want to listen to it.
BUT, regardless of what device you go for, good earphones are a MUST. I cannot say this stronly enough. If your earphones aren't comfortable (and the ones that came with my iPod definitely were not) you're not going to have a satisfactory experience. I have in-ear Shure earphones, which were pricey ($80 on Amazon) but so worth it. They're comfortable, stay in when I exercise, and give great sound quality. I've had them for 3 years, had to return them after a year because of a defect, and had them replaced for free. Love them.
i choose the shuffle because its small, I don't need a screen, and I absolutely cant stand to wear anything on my arm. I love clipping the shuffle to what ever place I choose.
I didn't like my first set of earphones either but I picked up some pink Skull Candy ones yesterday for $10 at Marshall's. They are very comfy and stayed in place during my 20K today.
I have a Sony MP3 player which is a little annoying since I have to use their software to load the music. DS has a refurb SANSA from woot that was $15 and it loads just like any flash drive. -Much easier to deal with!!
