Hi! How about some intros? I'm Wendy. I'm 30 and a mother of 3 girls. I've tried weight watchers a few times. I prefer counting calories. I love the daily plate. I began my weight-loss journey last summer after my mom died of a heart attack at the young age of 45. That really kicked my butt. I decided to work from the inside out. I wanted the changes that I make to be permanent. I'm finally to the point where I'm cutting calories and exercising. I feel that the weight loss will be for good and the changes will be lasting.

I'm looking forward to the challenge. I think it really will be a challenge for me until the weather gets a little nicer. I have a desk job, so I'll have to think of ways to get more steps. We had a nice day this week and I was able to walk 10,000 steps. It wore me out. My legs were pretty achy by the end of the night. I took a short walk in the morning and a longer one in the afternoon to get it in. Yesterday, I only made it to 6,000.

Any tips for getting in more steps with the weather still being yucky?

Also, there is a book called Step Diet. It is great and comes with a pedometer. I mainly got it to see how it tells you to add steps in your life. It does focus a bit on diet but it focuses more on walking.

I'm glad I remembered this challenge. I almost forgot. Although I didn't wear my pedometer half the day. :(

wendyland 03-01-2009 10:45 PM

This is going to be challenging. My legs are achy already. My husband said that he'd walk at the mall with me on nights when he's home. That'll help. It's supposed to warm up a little this week. I don't mind walking in a little cold, but it has been really windy.

chubbyphotographer 03-02-2009 01:46 PM

Do you use a really expensive pedometer or one of the $5 ones.I have a cheap one but bought a better one today?
I am 34,I my parents have thyroid problems, diabetes and high blood pressure.
I can really afford the expensive exercise euipment,I have weights but that is about it and a bike so right now I am doing alot of walking.I walk alot at work but I am trying to walk alot when I am not at work too.

Well what I do, is while I am watching television, I would jog.
I try to get in 20 steps in per comercial, and there's usually about 5, 6 comercials, so there already is a hundred steps. Also, During the show, I try to get 100 steps before the commercials start. That's my thing anyways, I am not sure if you are willing to do that though. I just think sitting and watching television is pretty bad, so why not combine it with something you need to do?

lyndavan 03-02-2009 04:46 PM

Anyways, intro on me. I am 16 years old. I have an older brother, younger brother, and 2 younger sisters; 17, 11, 15, 10. I enjoy working out and I am trying to find some ways for me to lose body fat. Because I used to be anorexic, and awesomely, I have recovered. However, I still have the majority of my body fat. Therefore, I am hoping this will help.
Sundays, and Saturday, I probably will not walk much because I will be home doing homework, because I have 3 AP classes. Also, I am getting ready for college admissions. And.. good luck to all on this challenge :)

I used to have a cheap one, but I didn't find it to be very accurate. I'm on my second omron (my baby lost the first) and I find it to be pretty accurate. I don't think you need a lot of equipment. There are a lot of things you can do by walking, hiking, biking and home videos. I'd like to get some straps so that I can do more weight bearing exercises.

That's great that you've recovered. There's a lot of good information on this forum about being healthy - eating whole foods, good fats, and moderately exercising.

Also, I think I will try walking in place or doing side steps while watching tv. We just got back from walking at the mall. I have about 5,000 steps in so far today.

Thank you . :) and Thank you for the infomation. I am new to this site and I haven't the time to browse it. But so far Wow. so yays you're halfway done! :D
I'm almost halfway done. However, I will be jogging later tonight, while watching television, and before bed.

Daimere 03-02-2009 08:08 PM

I am going to be the downfall on this team. I haven't gotten many steps in and that is why I am in this challenge. To encourage me to a) wear my pedometer b) get 10,000 steps eventually.

I'm really not worried about it. This is just to encourage me to get off my butt and have fun with it. I honestly won't feel bad if we don't win.

I really do not mind either. This is only to get me motivated to walk, which it has. :D!
It hopefully, you will eventually get used to the challenge and you can get more then 10,000 steps!
BTW I read somewhere that it is 20,000 steps not 10,000.
It was like a news article from 2004. However I thought it was rather odd, because everywhere else it was saying 10,000 steps.

shcirerf 03-03-2009 11:58 PM

Hi. I'm 49, married, grown twin boys, married and out of the house. WE also have 3 dogs.

I work for a veterinarian and spend a lot of my day on my feet.

I started WW several years ago. Lost 50 pounds and gained back 17. Now losing them. I do NOT want to have to lose 50 pounds again. My mother is non insulin dependent diabetic, has 3 stints in her heart and has always been overweight. I want to avoid those issues as I age.

Daimere 03-04-2009 09:47 AM

I just took my monthly measurements. The lack of the tape measure going down is completely related to the lack of exercise. Hopefully I will push more now. *dies*

annie175 03-04-2009 10:03 AM

I did 10000 steps on Sunday 3/1, however have been unable to achieve that number since. I will post Monday and Tuesdays steps shortly.

Daimere 03-04-2009 01:34 PM

I have the Rock n Roll stepper and I was watching my pedometer as I exercised. Evidently, it only shows a step when I'm stepping fast. So I'm doing more than it's showing. Grrr.

lyndavan 03-04-2009 05:13 PM

Daimere.. grr. that really does suck!! :(!

annie... well at least you achieved the 10,000 steps.! so yays!

sharpie89 03-04-2009 08:41 PM

Hey all I am sorry I didn't get a chance to stop by and say hi!! I am not off to a great start, but I am heading there! I am moving more then I was. So I am a student, I am finishing the CNA program this Friday, and then I am on to a nursing program. So I am so busy and its a lot of work but it will all be over soon, and then I have a few months. I am saposta be with my boy friend in the next few weeks...he is an over the road truck driver, I am very excited about going with him but I am worried about not being very active, I hope I can run around at the truck stops but I don't want to look like a goon...lol well whatever sorry to be so long winded Thanks a lot hope to talk with you all soon.

shcirerf 03-04-2009 09:31 PM

Daimere, I saw your apple banner. That tickles me. My DH helped his old boss pick up a truck wreck last weekend. It was apples. I have them running out of my ears. Wish I could share with all of you.

Had the afternoon off since I have to work Sat. am so I came home and kicked it into gear with a 3 mile walk. Had my mp3 in my ears, lots of old late 80's, early 90's rock and roll. Danced my way down the road and back.

It was actually fun.

Billy Idol, Lynerd Skynerd, Pat Benatar, ZZ top, etc.

I didn't get many steps in. I drove over an hour to help my grandma get on the internet and teach her how to navigate. It went pretty well, but I wasn't able walk much.

We got a wii fit from my step dad yesterday. That might help me get in some more steps. It has a step game and a running game on it.

jleeson 03-04-2009 10:34 PM

Hey all

I currently have the flu, so my numbers will probably suck for a little while! Hope everyone had a good day :)

That's funny about the apples. I past by an overturned truck last night on the highway yesterday and it was full of apples. I heard that they had to let all the apples fall out.

That is hilarious. When my boyfriend was first learning to drive, he crashed an apple truck.

I think I've gotten extra steps in today. ^_^

Daimere 03-06-2009 11:49 AM

Increase your steps and here are some tips!

annie175 03-06-2009 12:05 PM

Yesterday I put in 12,284 steps....Whew Who!!!

wendyland 03-06-2009 04:55 PM

I just took a 5700 step walk pushing a stroller. I did stop at a park and let her play. That's the most I've walked in one trip in a long time. I usually walk about a mile and a half. I mapped my walk and it was 2.5 miles not counting walking around a store and a park. I'm so glad I joined this group. It's really pushed me to do more than I normally do. I only have 2900 more steps to go today!

Daimere 03-06-2009 06:35 PM

I walked to the library and have gotten about 5000 so far. I'm hoping to get to 6000 tonight.

lyndavan 03-07-2009 08:04 AM

Ugh. It's the weekends again. I am not going to get much steps in because I never go anywhere during the weekends and I am not allowed to. However, I will jog in place and hopefully by the end of the day I will get at least 5,000

shcirerf 03-07-2009 08:34 PM

I've come down with a horrid sinus infection, so getting all the steps in has been tough. I'm feeling a bit better today, thank you antibiotics. Hopefully I will feel good enough and the weather will be nice enough tomorrow for a good long walk.

wendyland 03-09-2009 10:51 AM

We made it over a week! I hope everyone is doing well. I was exhausted all weekend, so I didn't get as much as I wanted to. My toddler was waking up at night all last week and crying for a couple hours. Then, she was getting up really early. I don't do well with lack of sleep. She actually slept good the last two nights. I feel much better today.

Does our team name remind anyone else of the movie "Teen Wolf"?

Daimere 03-10-2009 05:54 AM

My new job is very sedentary. And it hurts to sit this long all day. Although yesterday, I forgot my pedometer but I walked home from the library and know from experience that I walked at least 1000 steps just from that.

KimL1214 03-11-2009 09:45 AM

So, I'm working on doing the math and will have the weekly results posted by the end of the week! Thank you to everyone who included their total weekly steps along with the average, makes my life a lot easier. Great job everyone and keep stepping!!!

shcirerf 03-14-2009 12:51 AM

Where did everyone go?

I've been getting my steps in just at work. We've been so flippin busy it's nuts.

I only have to try on the weekends.

Between the steps and the lifting, etc. I do at work at the veterinary hospital I am pooped.

wendyland 03-14-2009 12:24 PM

I wish I had a job where I walked more. We've been going to mall in the evening to walk, but I'm still not making it to 10,000. I'm getting in a lot more than I would if I wasn't doing the challenge. So, that's good.

annie175 03-16-2009 10:20 AM

My steps for last week's total are 38625

I have been doing all my steps at school.
And i just realized that i have been putting my pedometer too far back so I have been walking more than I thought. My friends pointed out to me today.
So i'm pretty happy because I was disappointed in myself for not have been able to get in 10,000 steps.
but it's only 4:15 where i live and i already have 12,000. I just got home from school, well tonight i have to study so i probably won't get that much in.
I will find out tonight! :D!

sharpie89 03-17-2009 10:31 AM

Well wow...I am not even saposta be on this team...I'm on the other, sorry...but as long as its alright with you all I will stay...so I have some accountability but If you want me to switch over that would be fine too...sorry
