Default My best friend has thrown down the gauntlet...

My best friend moved to Arizona with his partner a year ago. Prior to his move, when we were both single, this is the friend that I met at Starbucks three times per day, sat around watching tv eating hot pockets with, stocked a candy dish big enough for Halloween to snack out of with...

He ran a half marathon this weekend! He ran the first ten miles before he had to stop and walk the rest! My first thought was "woo hoo! You go!" My second thought - "how dare you get into running shape faster than me!" I can be so petty sometimes...

So now, I have to get through my upcoming surgery and get back into good running shape, and work my endurance up 8 more miles... Right now I can only do five... His partner is an airline pilot and says he can get me a cheap ticket to San Diego for a half marathon they have invited me to come run with them...

I can't let him continue to beat me!

Ahh... competition is good for me... I do my best work under pressure...

Of course, your 5 miles ain't nothing to sneeze at!

I know you can run a half marathon. Piece of cake! Are you thinking about the San Diego Rock n Roll half?

Good for you for rising to the challenge. Just make sure you follow a good training plan. A visit to a running store to get some advice might help. I look forward to you posting about your progress. Good Luck.

Midwife - he didn't say which one in SD, just where it was - didn't actually tell me when yet... He did say that the one he did this weekend was a Rock n Roll half marathon, I guess in Phoenix, so I bet that is the same one he is talking about in SD.

ETA: Ah, I just found it - May 31st.. I bet that is it, it is right after my birthday...
