HEY J-311...YES you can join in!! Good to see you!

Jeannette311 01-16-2009 10:38 PM

Thanks, Gary!

I did about 1.25 miles today. After my 2 hours last night I was only able to walk 30 minutes. Slowly, lol.

EZMONEY 01-17-2009 11:04 AM

Great job J!

Angie had to take Lara to the airport so the mutts and I went alone this morning for 3.5. The weather was gorgeous....long sleeve and shorts weather.

ennay 01-18-2009 08:17 PM

ennay 01-19-2009 10:17 AM

6.88 today

MTA +0.77 at the gym as weights wu/cd to push me over 150! :woohoo:

Purplefirefly 01-19-2009 10:30 AM

I may not make my goal of 100 unless I do more than my morning walking program, so I am adding in some evening walking until the end of the month. I am determined!

Oh, and unlike other runs I do try to eat something before a long run. Toast and PB usually

Thank you so much for posting this! As a beginner I really do appreciate your experienced point of view. Now....what is gu?

Gu is a brand of carbohydrate/electrolyte gels (powergel, clifshot are some others). They are extremely nasty. They have the consistency of hmmm...well some say thick honey, others say snot. They are 100 calories of basically pure sugar with just enough electrolytes to rapidly absorb. They also often have a bit of caffeine. They were MEANT for endurance racing.

They really truly are not needed in training until you are running a minimum of 2 hours non-stop, and most people can condition themselves to ~3+ hours before needing them in training. In a race most people take them every 45 min - 1 hour but it depends on your intensity. Beginners can't race at the intensity (% HRMAX)of an elite either.

Of course gu marketing will tell you to take one 15 minutes before a workout and every 30-45 minutes after that. blech :p

They are good in situations where you need calories but are working too hard to digest calories. Ultra runners (50 miles, 100 miles) often DONT use them because at that point you have to learn to maintain a pace and stomach some sort of real food.

Ok I am slowly getting back into it after this cold. I still have a bit of a cough but when I am doing cardio it goes away and I can breathe. It's beautiful!

4.3 miles on the TM (2 running) and 3 miles on the bike.

18.3/50 walk/run
1 swim
10.5 bike

6.5 today BUT my hamstring popped during my 3rd interval and now I think I may be out for awhile. I was supposed to run a HM on Sunday. :(

I hope its nothing major and you recover quickly. I live in fear of injuries. Its so strange before I started running I never paid any attention to where I was going or bothered to turn on lights when walking into dark rooms or even up and down my stairs but now I hold on to the railing for fear of not being able to run should I fall. I've even given up wearing heels in winter which is craziness for me.
