  • Hey there Midwife (and all riding chicks)
I am also a very insecure bike rider and would like to get more confident so my family can ride together. Keep us posted on what kind of bike, where purchased, price range for the non expert and all that good stuff...

midwife, how about rough rider as an alter ego name??
  • So, my right knee was kinda aching last night, and I was worried it would be quite painful today, but it seems like it feels OK. I was hoping to do another spin on the bike this evening...but I'm wondering if maybe I should take a rest day in case I'm at risk of over-stressing my knee. Opinions?
  • Well, I would probably do it, but I am horrible at listening to my body....so don't listen to me!

SoulBliss, you're very kind. It's the ladies I get to hang with and help through birth who are the goddesses.

Hmmm.....Rough rider, Kitty? I'll have to ponder that. Maybe.....Congrats by the way on breaking through on your ticker weight. I know you have been working hard!

    thanks for your kind words!!
  • Hey all,

I rode my bike this morning, got lost, got home...I felt great about riding. I love it. But what I don't love is it _hurts_ my butt!
I thought it was just me not being used to biking, but it's not that kind of worked muscle pain. It actually hurts quite a bit..

It's where my 'sitting bones' are. It is bad enough that my posture when ridig is messed up. I can't just naturally ride the bike.

    Any suggestions or sympathies?

    OG
  • Optical Goddess those "sitting bones" take a while to get use to the abuse of riding a bicycle ... biking more makes it better. I haven an ergonomically correct seat for women it does the trick... I have a seat similar to this one... it's actually probably narrower but very comfortable....http://www.bikesomewhere.com/bikesom...6444?i=default
  • I recently started riding as well - and I love it . Though I did also get that pain (mega ow!) I got a new seat - I need to check if it works, now that I'm not so tender.
My husband is being amazingly patient with me while I re-learn most of, well - everything!
I'm glad to see that biking is a popular thing to pick up because it motivates me like no other form of exercise has!
  • I bought a seat with extra padding (Target). That helped alot! So far no calluses! Thank God!
  • Cushy seats are definitely the way to go. I got a really comfy one from Sears that has done wonders. I went for a 22 mile ride this morning, and while my thighs are feeling it this evening, my crotch doesn't hurt at all. It was gorgeous weather for a ride today. Sunny, but not too hot, with a nice breeze. I was only going to go half that far, but didn't want to stop. It was so nice!! I might regret it tomorrow when I can't walk, but it was totally worth it!!
  • Hey Goddess,
I've noticed that just the loss of fat makes my butt more tender from sitting on anything. You have my sympathies! I would try some different seats and find the perfect one.

Thanks for the link, Ilene. I know I am very curious about equipment.

Welcome, SinisterSpackle! I love that your DH is teaching you to ride. Mine was a lifesaver and walked me through each step. He's a very experienced cyclist. I'm in ABQ too. Where have you gone riding? I'm thinking about trying the foothills at the end of Menaul for my efforts for the July 4th 3FC 5K (I'll do more than 5K). Have you ever gone by the river? Any other places?

    Hi Deb!

Hi Nette! Congrats on the ride!
