Getting a trainer was the best thing I ever did for myself. And yes, at times I felt self-conscious &/or ridiculous but it was well worth it.

I think what Barbara says is really valid. He'll probably be more judgemental of someone who is whining & complaining the whole time then someone who is there & putting in a good hard effort - regardless of size.

Good luck - you'll love it!!!

I should also point out that when I started with my trainer, I weighed about what you do now. I'm less than two inches taller than you, so you can imagine that I wasn't exactly svelt. I also didn't even have proper gym attire. I had some oversized t-shirts, linen shorts (at least they had an elastic waist), and $5 target Keds knock-offs for shoes. It was sad. But my trainer never said a word about my weight or my clothes; he acted like everything was perfectly normal (although he was pretty excited when I finally upgraded to a pair of Reeboks).

Like Lifeguard, hiring a trainer was the absolute best thing I ever did for myself. My trainer is absolutely the number on factor in my success. I have no doubt that without him I would have quit exercising after a few months and would never have changed my diet.
