Hooping?

  • Does anyone hoop for fitness? I've been interested in it for a few months especially since I've became bored with my regimen.
  • I do it as PART of my fitness, but I wouldn't rely solely on it. It can help to tone your abs, but you'd really have to hoop a lot to get nearly the calorie burn you could get with less of a more intense workout.
  • Yeah, I totally realize that I don't think it'd have enough calorie burn like my usual stuff. But to have one day/hour where I want to do something would be great.
  • Okay, so what is hooping???
  • Hooping is basically hula hooping, but instead of using a hula hoop that you would buy in the toy department, you use a larger hoop-basically one meant for adults.

Most of the ones in the toy department are too small for an adult to do it well. Many hooping performers use hoops that are weighted a bit.

There are places online to buy hoops and weighted hoops-even ones with special effect lighting, etc.

Hooping is pretty popular in some areas-often seen at rave parties, dance parties...there are even a few belly dancers that get into hooping.

The way I have seen it done, mainly, is with upeat techno/party type music-and not just on the waist. You can do really cool tricks, like going from the waist to the neck, on the shoulder, and other tricks. When you do it that way-it can tone all over-depending on what tricks you are doing.

For fun, check out YouTube, and punch in "hooping" in the search bar. You'll see what I mean.
  • hooping
I've been hearing a lot about this recently. One evening I "hooped" without the hoop, and have to say I did feel it in my abs and thighs.. might just have to get the hoop..

Between this and the resurgence of jumping rope, I'm starting to feel like a kid again!
