I just went through a battery of tests for my new endocrinologist. One of the tests showed a marker for the ability to burn fat for energy. My number was so low that he said my body had only a tiny capability to burn fat for energy. That means, after my body has burned all the carbs and protein I have eaten, my body will then burn my own muscle for energy. Fortunately the Pilates trainer I have been working with for the last five months has always advised I eat a little half an hour before my workout and always reminds me to eat protein as soon as I get back to my office.
My Endo, said that if your body is not producing the L-Carnitin it needs, that replacing it will increase your body's ability to burn fat. If your metabolism is normal, it's just a waste. To really know, you would have to be tested. I have been on the supplement for a couple of weeks now. I am taking a powder that I add to my protein drink every day, and it's a lot more than you could get into a few pills.
