Suggestions:

  • So, I have decided that I am going to start running. This is a big decision because I have always professed an undying loathing of running. But I need to do something not in the gym. (I'll still go, but I'd like the occaisonal change of scenery) plus, I'd like something a little different, because the same exercises are not helping what parts of me lose wieght, if that makes sense.

So for anyone out there who is a runner, got any suggestions? I have a year membership to the local wildlife refuge, which has a beach I was planning on running on. I normally hike through the rest, but its gravel for about 4 miles, and I am not running on big chunks of rock!

    Thanks in advance!

  • The basics:

-get good shoes that are properly fitted (yes they are going to be expensive) go to a specialty running store to ge the correct shoes for your foot type

-start slow and be patient, even if you're reasonably fit you probably won't be able to run for very far or very fast in the beginning

-listen to your body - soreness is normal, actual pain is not!
  • Start slow and work up to running distance. I do C25K and a lot of the people on here do too but there are other running programs for new runners that will guide you through those first months.
