I missed my workout last night. I think I had some kind of 24-hour virus, since I feel fine now and my fiance is having the symptoms I had yesterday! Anyway I had a nasty headache and felt like crap so I lay down on the couch instead of working out. Hopefully I'll get it in tonight instead!
Well, I made it to the gym today to give it another shot. I walked 2 miles last night nice and slow to see if I still had any pain and there was a slight tug when I had to chase after my son. So I stretched a ton last night, got some good sleep and then this morning I ate a bigger breakfast and got to the gym and actually did a long 10 minute stretch this time, then got on the treadmill hoping for the best. At 5 minutes it felt funny again, and I was just about to stop when there was almost this release of pain and I actually said "ahhh" as in a soothing ahh out load and the run was great! It was a struggle after 15 minutes - I was just tired but I made it! So I feel a million times better and now I am just going to have to stretch a lot more and maybe do some easy walks at night so things don't get knotted up again!
I completed day 1 of week 4 today. I really didn't think I'd ever be able to run a total of five minutes at a time. Wow. I not only did it, but I did it twice! Amazing! Now I'm starting to think week 5 will be possible after all!
Meanwhile, we had a little scare with our dogs this morning. After a visit to the vet one is okay (my running buddy) and one is hopefully going to be okay (our old dog who is 13-14 years old). He has something called vestibular disease which apparently makes him very dizzy and it makes him throw up and not eat and not be able to walk very good. Poor old guy. At one point, we thought the dogs had been poisoned. Whatever Chico was doing that made me think he was sick, too, must have either been sympathetic symptoms (to Bud) or just my imagination gone wild.
Did day 2 of week 7 today. Finishing the week tomorrow. So far so good, I even picked up the running for the last two minutes to a 5.6 and I didn't fall off the treadmill - LOL. I think I might try speeding up tomorrow or Monday to get closer to the 2.5-2.75 I am supposed to be doing. Right now I am just going on time.
Allison, sorry about your dog. Poor guy! Congrats on going 5 minutes though!
I did day 1 of week 5 and it was way better than I thought. I would almost use the word easy if I weren't afraid of day 2 kicking my butt
Thanks! I'm sure you'll do great on day 2 of week 5. And I'll say a prayer for you when you do day 3--that one looks like a killer (and that's the one I'm really scared about).
I just got back from D2W4. It's hard. I'm still wondering how I'll fare on W5. My mind seems to want to sabotage me with thoughts of "I'll just stop now" or "I'll skip this part." I only got a slight side stitch on the second 5 minute run today, so I know my body is capable. I just have to convince myself.
You are SO capable! I think my third day of week 4 went badly and I wondered if I should go on to week 5, but I did and I'm doing well. I did day 2 of week 5 and I was so surprised at how fast the 8 minutes went. My calves weren't even protesting as much as they usually do. The next day is the real test!
I have not been around much because I have been very bad. We had an not-so-great week at our house. I probably should have been exercising 2 hours a day to manage the stress, but in addition to the craziness, we were booked solid and the baby just won't stay in the gym play area. I can't run when I know my baby is crying.
However, today I went out and did the 25 minute run off of the Robert Ullrey site. I could use more Robert popping in for encouragement. Anyway, I walked for about a minute out of the 25. Mostly from dry mouth and not having water with me. I was, GASP, on the road since it was cool out today.
Back on track. I plan to do 25 again Monday and the 28 on Wednesday. I probably will do 20 on the off days.
Onthetree that is great! How old is your baby? I have a rugrat too, he will be a year old next month (on labor day). Running or walking is about the only exercise I can get in with him around, and that's because he's in the stroller
My 20 minute run is tomorrow and I'm scared to death. I will just have to remember to take it slow. I will do a happy dance out of this world if I can make it without stopping.
I'm thinking of starting the c25k - I've never been a runner, but want to "change up" my workout routine and this looks like a great challenge!
One question: I don't have easy access to an outdoor or indoor track, but I do have a treadmill at home. Is it possible to do the program on the treadmill? If so, what sppeds should I use for the "brisk walk" and the jogging/running?
Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
Hi bethel...I am not at all an expert and I'm sure the others can give you loads better advice, but I think a treadmill is just fine. As for the speed, I think whatever is "brisk" for you is what you should set the treadmill to. I'm alwasy seeing on here that speed is not important, so I think catering it to your level is the key. Good luck and it's a wonderful program, I'm running longer than I ever thought possible and hopefully will go even farther!
Hi everyone,
I just did D1W1 and wow I feel great. I'm so proud of myself for getting out of bed and just doing it!
Bethel,
I'm running on a treadmill. I did my brisk walk at 3.2 and my jog at 5. But I'm really out of shape so I looking forward to other replies.
I did week 5 day 3 and it was pretty tough. I stopped 10 minutes in to grab a drink of water (maybe 30 seconds) and the rest of the run was very slow, but darn it, I was jogging. For some reason my stroller wheels have started squeaking like crazy, and people hear me coming from a mile away. I will have to get some WD40.
