Walk/Run Challenge -- April

Ack! you closed March before I could get my total added up since I have been out of town.

I think I'll go for 125 again, as March will be a bit more disrupted, I'm going away for a long weekend in Germany over Easter, and my mother's visiting which will cut down on the potential for long runs.
I'm hopeful that it will be nearer 150, if not 178 this month, but as I'm aiming for an average over the year of 125 per month, I'll stick with that. No running today, I'm recovering from yesterday. |
OK my MARCH summary was 73/65 (I love that my elapsed time was 13 hours 00 minutes and 01 seconds..tee hee)
Not bad for a month recovering from PT and a weeks worth of vacation. I still have some to go to catch up to where I want to be for the year, but i think this month I will stay conservative and say 85 miles. (boy there are gonna have to be a LOT of miles this summer!) |
Only 30 miles for April. Hey, I have to start somewhere. :P

Can I join in?? Didn't get to the gym today--my legs are feeling yesterdays walk to the museums in DC with my son for his bday, but I will definitely hit the gym on Monday night!! I'll start slow--30 miles for April--I have been building up but my good knee decided to act up instead of the usual bad one last week--so I don't want to overdue and not be able to do at all!!

Can I join? I need to walk everyday and this will help me reach that goal.

You can track daily or weekly (or anything in between!). We're glad to have more walkers and runners!

Helen-I wondered if you had any advice-my DH ran his 2nd half marathon Sunday. He's planning on the running the full Detroit Marathon in October. His hips bothered him during and after his run. Any suggestions for stretches or strenghtening exercises? I'm asking you since your pretty experienced in those long runs. Thanks.

I had hip issues last year, the thing that made the most difference to me was actually running more and building my base - after my marathon I dropped down to doing more 6 - 7 mile runs rather than a couple of 5s and a long one each week, having a few solid months at that level rather than constantly trying to run further and further each week seemed to settle it a bit, and now I'm marathon training again it's absolutely fine. I'm not stretching any more now, I've just got more of a base to build on.
It's a temptation a lot of us are guilty of (including me) but I do think it is a lot easier to do a full if you've got really comfortable with the half marathon distance first. I had only done two halves when I did my full marathon, and I suffered - now I've done 6 or 7 (plus a couple of longer races) I feel much more prepared for it, and I'm nowhere near as sore as last time round. |

I just got back from my walk. It's so beautiful out. I hate to see the snow back in the next couple days.

I just tried out my new walking shoes. They work pretty good. I wish it was nicer out so I could have walked outside. Instead I had to do the treadmill. With snow in the forecast it looks like it's going to be me and the treadmill for a few day.

Another 3 today, and outside!! The ice is gone from the bike/walking trail and there are only a few snow patches. Of course, a lot of it is wet, but that's no problem. :) It was so nice to be outdoors instead of :tread:
