Punching bag

  • I'm considering trying to get a punching bag. I've got a lot of aggression built up and it seems like it would be a great release. It seems like putting on some music and just having at it punching and kicking it is the way to go. I'm wondering if there are any good how to get started sites/youtube videos that people have found.

I'm also curious what the different weights in the bags are like. Any preferences?

I'm low on cash so it's looking like either craigslist, diy, or really cheap from a store. I know I need to make sure I get gloves.

Any advice that you girls can give would be incredibly helpful.
  • i don't have much advice as far as the cost of a bag goes, or what to do with it. my boyfriend has one hanging in our garage. it's an Everlast, and it feels like it weighs about 35 lbs (but i have no idea). what i CAN tell you tho is that he LOOOOOOOOOVES it! he says it is probably the BEST overall workout he can do (he's a retired pro baseball player, so he's pretty fit). he says nothing works off the "back fat" like a punching bag and his "lats" get a heck of a workout. he does what you said, puts the music out, and pounds away. he's only out there for like 10 minutes or so, but he comes back in the house DRIPPING with sweat. i tried it, but the gloves he has are too thin and hurt my hands...but i'd like to give it a shot too!
  • I've done kick boxing before and it is FANTASTIC at reducing stress. I told my family that "All I want for Mother's Day is a punching bag." I'm very excited!!! I found one on Craigslist here for $100 and it is a UFC 100 lb (?) punching bag. Yay! Can't wait!
  • A punching bag will definitely be my next exercise equipment purchase. I don't have a good place to put one now, but I'm moving to my own place in March where I'll have an entire room for a gym (woohoo!). I can't wait to learn how to use it!
  • I made my own out of a duffle bag stuffed with alot of clothes that are too big now.

Punchin' the fat clothes---there's some therapy in that!!!
