I'm not really sure if it counts as an elliptical, but same kind of thing.

Anyways, I was looking at this on Amazon --> http://www.amazon.com/Gazelle-1285-E...6538896&sr=8-1 and it really looks like something that would work well for me.

For one, I'm a poor college kid, and I can actually afford around $100 for a cardio machine. Also, being a college kid, I live in a tiny apartment, and something that could be folded for storage would be amaaazing. This is also supposed to be quiet which would be good. I don't need a fancy computer or features, I just want something that I can move on for an hour or so while watching TV.

Has anybody ever tried one? I realize that it's not the same quality or comfort as a machine that costs $500 and up. I don't have really high expectations, but I don't want to spend my money on a complete piece of junk either.

So has anybody ever tried one? Owned one? Thoughts?

I don't have any experience with this, but I read the reviews on Amazon and some people find that it's not difficult enough...there's basically no resistance and it's not adjustable. If you're looking for something to just get you off your couch, this is good, but I don't think it would replace a real workout. Again, I don't have personal experience, but just thought I'd mention it anyway. Sounds like it does a good job at stretching the muscles though.

Heh I know how it feels to be a broke college student. I'm currently pawning my old crap on ebay to pay for a new cell phone lol.

And I dunno, I've always thought it looked to easy. If I were you, I'd look on craigslist for a stationary bike or real elliptical. You might even strike it rich at garage sales. I have a stationary bike that I got from walmart a few years ago, and it's a lifesaver when I'm feeling too lazy to leave the house but want to get SOME activity in.

I bought one from a garage sale for $15.00.It sat in my basement for a year until my husband sold it on Craigslist for $45.00.All we got out of it was a little extra cash.

It's an ok machine,but nothing like an elliptical.The motion isn't the same,and my hip joints would hurt after using it.We had one that you could change the resistance,and while it did feel like more of a workout,it wasn't worth it to me.

I keep checking Craigslist for a real elliptical,and am glad we're heading into March soon...so then I can start walking outside again.

Yea, that was pretty much my impression from reviews. It sounds like it's sturdy enough, for the most part, but it isn't much of a workout. I wish I could try it out somewhere just to see how it felt.

I guess my thinking is that if I'm going to actually buy a legit piece of exercise equipment, I want a nice one. $300-500 is the absolute max that I'd be able to spend on something like this, and that would take a bit of saving. And for the most part, it seems like the equipment in that range is mediocre at best. So unless something amazing comes along on Craigslist, I think I'll just wait.

Don't get thew Edge model. Get the Freestyle model. It's more sturdy.

I had the gazelle edge trainer. Hurt my lower back. My MIL had one, too, and the doctor said that it's the worst for people's backs! She got rid of hers, too.

I think I got mine for $100.
I did sell it for $40 on Craig's List, though, which is awesome.
