Mima, I read that one! It was so good!! I have enjoyed all of Dekker's books that I've read. We have a van, a Venture. I love it because it is so easy to get in and out of. Bob and Tim both have cars, and I have trouble getting in and out of those because it usually hurts. I'm 5'8" so that's probably why.

Anne, the patch is Lidoderm. Today was my first day with it. I really don't think it helped, but maybe I would have been worse without it. Glad that you'll have Wed. as a break! I can't believe the difference for me. Happy Thanksgiving!!

I'm waiting for a call from Tim. He and Jess are coming home this weekend. They should have left about 5, right after band was over. I'm meeting them in a town about 10 miles from here, so Jess can just go on to her house instead of coming the extra 10 miles and then having to go back the same direction and go 8 miles the other way. The meat loaf is in the oven!! That was his request.

Happy Canuk 10-06-2006 05:36 PM

Tammy, that might be why I don't do cars well either. I have OA in my facet joints and it just hurts to bend some days. I am also 5'8"

Joanne - where are you?

Joanne D 10-06-2006 07:17 PM

Hey There

I am right here Happy.. I just don't think I have anything really interesting to say ,so, I ahve been quiet. We went to Cedar Keys last weekend. That was nice.. My DIL's mother lives in a Victorian farm house. It is one of the houses that wasn't burned down during the Rosewood uprising. That is when all the blacks were run out of Rosewood and the town was burned down. Back then there were a lot of local rednecks that were real racial. The state has tried to buy her house but she won't sell...It is pretty mush the same as it was in the very early 1900's.She has been there almost 30 years so it is home.
Otherwise my life is pretty much the same day to day. I have the same aches and pains as the rest of you.Lately .I have been trying to finish a quilt before I have my eye surgery on the 19th and then nov.2 . They do one eye at a time..The leaning over the table quilting gets to my back.. I have taken way too long with this quilt.. It should have been done a year ago.. Just not staying with it as I should.. I let other things get in the way..
Mima- I would rather live upstairs.. Ofcourse the walking up and down may be a pain untill my legs got tough. I love big houses. I wish mine was bigger..
Meme- Hope you are feeling better..
Tammy- I bet it will take a few days for your patch to kick in. It usually takes 72 hours for medications to be really effective..Our son and his wife are out in Az this coming week. They are visiting my brother and will try to see as much as possible in the short time they have. Monday is his birthday so he is treating himself and his wife to this trip. I hope my brother doesn't try to get them to move there. I don't think that will happen as he loves the water and fishing in the Gulf. They have a house on a inlet to the Gulf.He keeps me supplied with fresh fish.
Hello everybody...Joanne

Tammy 10-06-2006 10:18 PM

Joanne, I don't have anything interesting to say but I just start typing stuff. Post young lady!!! That house must really be something to see. I can understand why she wouldn't want to sell. You are probably right about the patches taking time to kick in. I'm only supposed to wear one 12 hours a day. I have a friend in Arizona who has hinted many times that we should move out there. She has fibromyalgia and does much better since she has moved there.

Anne, I think our height does have something to do with getting in and out of cars.

CarebearsChris 10-06-2006 11:19 PM

Cold, wet weather has gotten to me...big time. I bowl 3 days a week (about my only exericse other than a few short walks on the treadmill. Well tonight I started out with my 12 pund ball, changed over to my 10 pound ball. By the end of the first game I was almost in tears so I decided not to bowl the last 2 games. I am so sore and stiff. It has been cold (55 or so during the day) and wet. CAme home and took a hot bath which helped some but not enough.

Headache is gone, finally. Two more BD parties "under my belt"! ;) One last night at daughters ... pizza and 2 cakes (one was for a belated ann. for in-laws - father-in-law got sick when we were supposed to have theirs last week.) The other was tonight with 4 of our friends. They took hubby out to a fancy restaurant to eat and then to our friend's house for MORE cake. Poor hubby, he's had a bad cold for 3 days now. He got some new cold med. Stuff on swabs you put up your nose. It works pretty good, it's about stopped his cold already.

Kids are all 8 going on vacation to Myrtle Beach for a week. Leaving tomorrow morning and I have the next 2 weeks off from teaching. Daughter-in-law and 2 kids aren't coming back for 2 weeks, they're stopping off at her mom and dad's. YAHOO!!! I'll be FREE!!! Except for a week from Wed. when I have to go to Chattanooga with daughter ... to take Ross to the Dr. Just MAYBE I MIGHT clean out a closet or two or work on cleaning up the basement. Or ... I might just DO NOTHING! :D I actually cleaned out one closet last night. Surprised myself ...

Well, it's 2 A.M. Where does the time go??? 'NITE ALL...

Mima 10-07-2006 06:21 AM

Well-so good to hear from everyone-sorry about the pain. It may be the change of seasons too.
Well, I used to be 5' but I am 4' 10 and 3/4. Thay call that old age. Now womder I can't get in cars!!! You should see me at the store climbing on shelves and asking people to help. Too funny.I need one of those claws to grab things.
My gd is taking kickboxing which is another funny thing because she is paralyzed. She kicks with her arms and she love s the breathing exercises, which she does before a test. She retook the English part of the FCAT- sure hope she passes it. The last time they had her in a room full of SPED kids who were making noises. This time she was alone. Her brain works weird because of the shunt she has, But what a kid!! She gives such joy!!! Imagine, she is a junior in high school.
Going to lunch with 2 friends but I am tired because I didn't get enough sleep. Took care of the former Pastor's daughter last night-She is 10 and no problem. We played cards and watched an old movie. But I went to bed 1 and a half hours later than usual because they came home later. Anyhow, it was fun.
Enjoy your time off, Meme. And your quilt, Joanne, I know about the back part. I am having a hard time tying the one I made.
Bye for now. there is another Dekker book at the library with my name on it. Hope the patch works , Tammy. Mima

Tammy 10-07-2006 10:57 AM

Chris, I envy you for being able to bowl! I used to love it, and now I can't even dream about it without hurting. I know what you mean about the cooler weather. I was warned at school yesterday that the new room that I'm in gets very cold in the winter. At least I'll be able to wear sweaters again! Last year I was in a room that was so hot, we had windows open almost all winter.

Meme, it nice that you get together so often with friends and relatives to celebrate different things. Since my parents have been gone, we rarely get together. Hope your hubby's cold gets better soon. Have fun while everyone is gone!!! I vote for doing nothing!! lol

Mima, good for your gd on doing the kickboxing. I took a class about 5 years ago, and it was fun. I was always afraid that I'd hurt someone (or myself!!). That was before fibro. Glad she was able to take the test without others around her. That helps. Nice that you had a 10 year old to care for and not little ones. Much easier that way.

Bob and Tim are at the old house putting in storm windows and just getting things ready for winter. I'm doing some laundry. We told Tim to bring stuff home to wash here and save himself some $. I told him that since he was going to the house to help Bob that I'd start laundry for him. I'm so sweet!!

Mima 10-08-2006 06:46 AM

Seems like they always bring laundry home. Going to be in the nursery today. I hope Keith comes. I want to offer to babysit for him but I don't want to get into a situation.
We are going to see Leah today. We have a card for her and the money we owe her. Brad has to write it. I really don't want her back to work but we need resolution. She IS Brad's gd.
Went to lunch with 2 of my friends. And then got my bread at Trader Joe's. It's 2.50 there and 7.29 at the Health food store.
Guess the people haven't made an offer yet. My cousin has 2 houses and has to do all that and heat it.
My friend wants to know if you have any other perks retiring. Health insurance? The City of Worcester still lets me carry my insurance. I don't have to go on Medicare. That's a good perk.
Hope you are having fun. Meme. And you are away, Anne. What a beautiful weekend it is,
Bye Mima

Mima, I agree about having a resolution with Leah. We can purchase health insurance. For the retiree, it is very reasonable, but for the spouse it is quite expensive. For dependent children it is reasonable too. Tim can be on mine until he is 21 and a student.

Chris, congratulations on the loss!!!! Woo hoo!!!

Lazy day today. I've taken a shower and that's about it. Didn't get up to go to church. Up late last night, so we decided to sleep in. Tim is finishing up his laundry, and Bob is at the other house mowing. Hope the other people sell their house soon so they can buy ours. Still don't know why the other couple hasn't made an offer since they went through it so many times and measured things.

CarebearsChris 10-08-2006 12:29 PM

Thanks, Tammy. I am not sure how the weight is coming off but I sure am liking it. I tried my Chic jeans on this morning and I still can't get into them. They are size 26 just like my other jeans but they run really small. Sme day soon....I hope.

Lazy day here too. Hubby had to work today so I am just kicking back at the computer and watching some TLC. After lunch I hope to walk on the treadmill some. I managed 7 minutes once yesterday. Hoping to do at least 5 twice. Only time will tell.

I need to get some new jeans. I have some that I've been wearing for ages (through thick and not so thick, lol) I used to love Bill Blass jeans and then I couldn't find them anywhere. I have some JMS jeans. I don't really like them because they stretch out so easily.

Tim should be back at school soon. I cried a little bit again. We had a great weekend with him, and I know we'll see him next week when we take my nephew over for a visit.

MemeToo 10-09-2006 12:16 AM

Whew! Weekends sure do tire me out! Guess that must be a sign I'm getting old, huh? ;) I'm telling you, standing up in front of that church choir singing in a mic and swinging your arm up and down for an hour is no picnic. You should try it some time. I told hubby tonight after I was done that I was totally exhausted. You wouldn't think it for only an hour but it really does take a lot out of me. Hope I burned a lot of calories doing that because I went to Cracker Barrel after church and had a Chicken BLT on sour dough bread and fries. :p

It has turned downright cold here. I wore a sweater and my leather jacket both tonight and still wasn't real warm. I don't like cold weather. Makes me hurt worse (although I really DO like the fall!) Guess I'll just have to start packing me a blanket!) :D They were talking today about doing a hay ride and then said they had every weekend in Oct. planned out already and would have to push it back 'till Nov. I said wait a minute here... Nov. like in WINTER TIME Nov? That's cold ....... They said there's usually still a few warm days in Nov in TN. I said NOT THAT WARM! I'll have to take my electric blanket for that!!! ;)

Hey, Chris, when you figure out how you're losing, share it with us! I read in a magazine the other day that you could boost your metabolism by 30% just by drinking a large glass of ice water before and after each meal. They also recommened you drink a lot of water throughout the day and said if you add ice it worked even better to rev up your metabolism. I can do that!

I read in my Arthritis Today magazine that people who have rheumatic diseases don't exercise because they are either afraid they will hurt themselves or because it is painful and that is the worst thing they can do. It said you will not hurt yourself beyond repair but you will hurt yourself even worse if you don't exercise. The drs. said to start out slow and do some exercise 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes and if you can't do a full 30 minutes break it down in smaller periods to equal 30. Add stretches and yoga or deep breathing exercise as well along with the 30 min. of reg. exercise. They recommended walking or water along with any other exercise you can do. Have any of you ever heard of the Red Exerciser? It's a thing made much like a stool in a bar but it has handles on the side to hold to so you can 'twist' yourself on it. It's supposed to be a 'no impact' exerciser - especially good for midriff (which is what I need right now.) My legs and arms are skinny. Actually, I don't really need to lose any more weight ... I'd just like to shave a few inches from my stomach ... tighten it up kind-of. But I can't do sit-ups ... afraid I'll hurt my back again. I was thinking about getting one of these things but I'm afraid I'll hurt something with that, too! Take a look and tell me what you think. Tell me if you think it would be safe for 'us'. They're nearly $200!!!

http://www.RedExerciser.com

Mima 10-09-2006 06:37 AM

Well, I sure could not twist!!! That's why I can't do water aerobics. But I can swim. And walk. I have been so lazy-only walked 2x last week. now i am tired today-stayed up to watch a movie and woke up very early. Supposed to go to the movies today with d but I don't know if we can agree on a movie.
Nursery was great-the usually crying babies did not cry and Keith was his usual smiling self.
Brad and Leah made up. He gave her the card and before she left she apologized. I just don't want to go there again.
Went to brunch after church-it was great. And we went to Singspiration last night. Love to sing!!
Chris-what a great weight loss. Nothing can keep you going like success. And getting on the treadmill off and on sure works!!!
I can't spend any money on machines-I don't use them. My back hurts today-Keith is heavy. Angela says she has to go to chiro because of lifting the car seat. She is only 25. But she doesn't exercise. Anyhow!
Tammy-Again, I sure wish you could sell that house. The market has slowed down a lot. There are lots of houses around here for sale and not moving. But you never know.
Bye for now Mima

CarebearsChris 10-09-2006 08:15 AM

I don't think it is any one thing that has me lossing weight. I think it is a combination of things. First water, water and more water. I completely gave my soda up. The only thing I drank in the past was diet, caffeine free soda (at the bowling center it was just diet..not caffeine free). Now the only thing I will drink is water. And I usually is iced. My water is in bottles (bottled water bottle I have brought home from the bowling center but have refilled them with tap water) and I usually put one in the freezer. So maybe the ice water increasing metabolism.

I am staying within my Weight Watchers points. I try not to use the 35 weekley bonus points. I am not denying myself anything. I am watching portion sizes. If I want chocolate I eat chocolate in the form of yogurt chocolate mousse or 100 calorie packs. Before I comitted to a healthy me, I never ate fruits. Now I am eating 3 fruits a day...banana with breakfast (in the past I didn't eat breakfastP, evening snack of apple, grapes and vanilla yogurt (this replaces my nightly bowl of ice cream).

I am walking more than ever. I have had a treadmill for 2 years and I bet it didn't have more than 2 miles on it. My goal had been to walk 5 minutes a day. In the beginning I would walk 1-2 times at a time several times to get my 5 minutes in. Now I am walking about 10 (yesterday I walked 12) minutes. It takes me 3-4 times on the treadmill to get that amount in. I am doing it every day, no matter how I feel.

It seems to be working so I will continue doing it.

Hey There

Good Job Chris! Walking is about the only exercise I do. lately I have been lazy or really have too many irons in the fire..Scheduling is the only way for me.. I have been trying to finish a quilt and that is taking a lot of time..That is really not a good excuse. I used to walk 3-4 miles for an hour..I lost 74 lbs and am trying to get off another 5.. Not easy. It seems I am just barely maintaining.I set aside a pair of 16 jeans years ago. Something like over 20 years. They are now a pair of cut off shorts. I wear a 12.
Mima- Sometimes tolerating other family members is not so easy.. I have a family member here in town that can be very difficult.. It seems she is always looking for ways to show a difference of opinion with me..She is one of my sisters. The day is coming when I may have to let her know that is not the way to get along with me..
Tammy- I can't begin to tell you how many times I cried when our kids left the area or we left their area.. I guess we find it difficult to let go..I miss them more than I can say.. But, I have to realize they have a life to live. Our son is 48 today..
Meme- I like the cold weather, just not getting too chilled..Down here we don't have too many really cold days..The only water I drink is with ice. I don't like it any other way.. I am trying lately to maintain my 8 glasses a day..I keep a glass next to me all day..I think one of my problems is snacking lately.. I have stopped buying icecream and when the chips are gone that will be the end of that..I may just go and give what is left to the birds. Not much there anyhow..
Hello Happy
Joanne

Tammy 10-09-2006 07:48 PM

Meme, I was hurting just thinking about singing in front of the church for an hour. I'm sure you burned up plenty of calories, and Cracker Barrel certainly sounds good. LOL to taking an electric blanket on the hayride!! I used to say that when the band was going to some very cold football games. I have to check out that exerciser. I'm like you, I don't want to hurt the back. Dumb me went off this morning without putting a patch on the back.

Mima, we used to have a treadmill and an exercise bike. We sold those to friends before the auction. We still have the healthrider on the enclosed porch, but I haven't used it like I thought I would.

Chris, I know that I don't drink as much water as I should. It sounds like you are doing well with the WW plan. I have my old books laying here, but I just can't get myself motivated to get back to writing everything down. I'm lazy. Keep up the good work!!

Joanne, happy birthday to your son! I'm realizing now how hard it was for my mother when I went away to college. I used to think she was silly because she still had my two brothers at home. I bought some Blue Bunny sugar free butter pecan ice cream. When I have any ice cream here at home, I get a very small dish out, put some i/c in it, and enjoy.

School went well today, but I was really worn out when I came home. I slept for almost 2 hours. I missed water aerobics. Bob said I was sleeping so soundly that he didn't want to wake me. I'm glad he let me sleep.

Tammy 10-09-2006 07:55 PM

Well, I just went to check out the exerciser. Sure seems expensive, doesn't it? It says you get a guarantee with it, but I always wonder about that. I guess I could sit here in my desk chair, hold on to the desk, and swivel. That would do the same thing, right? Hmmmmmmmm. Maybe it would work!!!

MemeToo 10-09-2006 08:03 PM

Funny ... you'd wear you chair out pretty fast plus I think the tilt of your body would be all wrong and put a strain on your back. You'd have to tilt forward a lot to grab on to something. I can't decide.

CarebearsChris 10-09-2006 08:54 PM

Today was a trip to the shrink's office. Wednesday will be the counselor. Fun Fun. Today I told the shrink that about 2 weeks ago I was really depressed. She said that is about the time we had a lot of rain and several cloudy days. She asked if there are a lot of windows in my home, which there aren't. She said I most likely suffered from seasonal affictive disorder (SAD as they call it). She told me I needed a light box and would have to sit for 15 -20 minutes a day with it. I couldn't believe it...my insurance company is going to pay for it (100%). My insurance company contacted a vender and one is being shipped out to me. :carrot: Oh I hope this helps. I have always had a hard time in the winter....I blamed it on not having any family and the cold would make my fibro worse. Only time will tell if this will help any.

Chris, I've heard of that! I hope the light works!!

Mima 10-10-2006 07:33 AM

I have heard about the light box, also. Way to go on your weight loss and program.Chris.I lose weight on WW. My pants are tight again-but I did walk yesterday!! And was good. Problem is my IBS is so much better -I'll take that-plus I am sleeping. Now Brad isn't=go figure. Guess I will have to move back in den. Dog woke me up because the door was open!!! Brad!!!!
What a gorgeous day, yesterday. Didn't you have Columbus Day off, Tammy.
Gotta get some things done. I need to do a good part of my Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving so we can leave the presents for these kids here-I have cut way down. I finished the quilt for Debbie yesterday.
Joanne, you are going to be surprised at how quickly you can see after the surgery. Bye for now, Mima

CarebearsChris 10-10-2006 09:43 AM

IBS--isn't it so fun...not. I have gone from eating no fruit to eating 3 servings of fruit a day most days (banana for breakfast and a apple and grapes in the evening). An it has played havoc on my IBS. I am so constipated. If I take something for it I go too far the other way. The cramps are unbearable at times. I keep thinking I am going to give up the fruit but I know it is helping me loss weight. I gave up my nightly big bowl of ice cream for an apple and grapes with vanilla yogurt to dip the fruit into (helping me get another serving of dairy as well). I am in the process of changing doctors so I will have to wait it out till November 2 when I see my new doctor.

Joanne D 10-10-2006 11:01 AM

Hey There

Do you girls remember the old dance "the twist"? I wonder if that would work as well as a expensive machine.:carrot: Come to think about it,I might throw my back out!:D
Tammy- I don't think I can have any icecream in the house right now.. I will have to get some next week as my daughter and son-in-law will be here.No cookies or chips though. I have banned them. My hubbie was eating them like crazy. Then crying the blues because he has gained weight. TOO BAD!
I am going to try and get on T/M for 30 minutes... I will set my time at 11 am at least 3 times a week... Then work up. I need all the motivation I can get...
Mima- Every year this time I say I am going to shop early for Christmas.. Haven't really made it yet.
Meme-It is no wonder you are tired as much as you do for everyone.. As They say"There is a star in heaven with your name on it."
I need some advice...I have been going to a church down the street from me.. The problem is that the preacher is so boring that I am not really getting anything out of it.. He teaches, not preaches. The ladies in front of me this week went to sleep. Most of the members have left. There was 24 people ,including children ,there sunday. That is about the limit every sunday. I feel sure not more than 3-4 people really understood what he was talking about..My son and DIl go there too. She said he is too deep. I may have to find another church.I feel bad because I got my son to follow us there. This is something I guess I need to really think about...
Hello Happy- I guess you are having some really cold weather now. It was nice outside today. It is supposed to get in the 80's today...
Joanne

Tammy 10-10-2006 04:44 PM

We don't get Columbus Day off. We are off on Friday for Teacher's meetings though. We don't have to go because we went an extra day at the beginning of the school year instead.

Joanne, I'm with you on throwing our backs out!! lol Let's Twist!!! That's a tough one about the church. I think maybe I'd shop around for a different one. I know this winter I plan to go to a church that is closer to where I live. I've already told our preacher that. He's ok with it. He said to come and visit him sometime.

I have a couple of Christmas gifts purchased, but I should get started on the rest. Last year we went to Georgia over Christmas, and that was our gift to each other.

Joanne D 10-10-2006 07:19 PM

Hey There

Chris- Fiber is the answer.. Not every day if your IBS acts up. More fiber will help with your weight loss too. I am trying to increase mine. I have found that when I was upset that if I got out of the house and walked ,it was so much better for my nerves..I hope the light helps you.
Tammy- I am going to discuss my looking for another church with my Daughter -in- law. My daughter already told me to look elsewhere. The people at this church are really nice and have tried to make me feel welcome. It is just the preacher. I don't think I can sit through many more of his speeches that he just reads.I want to hear a sermon from the Bible and the Heart..This church is just 2 blocks away. It is kinda sad there. I was told that most of the members left because of him..I can understand that..I went to a Baptist Church(that is what this church is) in Cedar Keys. What a difference! I really enjoyed it. My hubby and I agreed that that preacher should give lessons to the one here.
Mima- I can hardly wait to get this eye surgery over with.. It is no pleasure watching TV. Some days it is difficult to read. That is a part of my things to do every day that I enjoy and have all my life.
I walked my 30 minutes today...I hope to be motivated to do that every day possible.
I had to buy a new vacumn cleaner. I ordered a kenmore. I had the last one 11 years. It still can be used to clean the car.The new one should be in Thrusday..:carrot:
Hello Everybody...Joanne

MemeToo 10-10-2006 08:12 PM

Joanne, if your DIL feels he is too deep or boring, too, then I guess I'd ask them if they would be interested in trying another church some Sun. morning and see what they say. You wouldn't have to miss every Sun. at first. Just visit around a little and see what's available. That way, if you decided not to leave, you wouldn't have 'burnt your bridges' so to speak. I decided a long time ago that life is too short for me to sit Sun. after Sun. and be bored out of my mind by a preacher. Why go to church if the services aren't up-lifting, the lessons informative, the sermons challenging and the fellowship good - (or at best some of the above). I'm blessed with the place we found ... and only 5 minutes from our house ... has ALL of the above so far. We are looking for a new minister so I hope it stays that way! With the men we have doing the 'culling', I can't imagine they will bring us someone unacceptable to approve. He will have to be voted on by the whole congregation and the one coming this weekend said he would have to have an 85% vote before he would come. They say he and his wife are really good in the music field, they are supposed to do most of the music Sun. I'm looking forward to hearing them. I think she has a degree in music. I may be out of a job if we get them! ;) (Like I care!!!)

My IBS is bothering me big time, too. I was beginning to think I might have colon cancer or something big but I guess it's the same ole same ole - just a lot worse than usual. I have ALL the symptoms this time. I got so sick last night at dinner I couldn't finish eating. Had half a burger and had to stop. Then I was hungry again a few hrs. later but still sick, too, so didn't eat anything else. I was up until after 6 A.M. this morning ... cramps and also achy all over. I finally slept for a few hrs. then felt like I'd been run over by a Mac truck when I got up. What a life, huh? Better'n some, though. Still thankful for what I have!!! Hubby is at the dentist so I made soup tonight. Maybe that'll go down better than burgers!

Tammy, wish you were on Fall Break this week or next like our schools are. You could come on down to TN and chill with me! We'd go shopping at Opry Mills and have a grand time. The kids have all gone to Myrtle Beach this week so I'm 'home alone'! And enjoying every minute of it, too ... no one to make demands! (just the customers) :p

I don't know about the twist. I'd be afraid I'd twist something out of place!

Tammy 10-10-2006 08:58 PM

Meme, loved the lady with the twist!!! Looks like all of us, I'm sure!! I wish I was on fall break too!

Joanne, I don't think I would be able to sit and listen to him either, and I've never heard him! Hooray for the new vacuum cleaner!! Isn't it funny how we get excited about new appliances? Good for you on getting your walking in today!!

CarebearsChris 10-10-2006 09:27 PM

Well yesterday I walked for 5 minutes 4 times on the treadmill and tonight I am paying for it. My back is hurting real bad. Only did 5 minutes on the treadmill today. But I went to Wal-Mart and did some house cleaning. I should know I can't do all that in one day.

I will have to look into getting some Benefiber. That is about the only way I can increase fiber. I don't like most veggies.

The company that my insurance carrier has contacted to supply the light box called today. It is a special order and can take 6-10 weeks to get instock. So in the meantime I will try to get outside more.

Mima 10-11-2006 06:09 AM

Chris-I have just gotten over a year of IBS-What works for me is Peppermint oil capsules after every meal , generic colace for constipation, and now I am getting acupuncture. I don't eat the skin on fruit but I have wicked diverticulosis so I don't know where the IBS ends and the diverticulosis begins. Very low fat-that's what used to get me. Too funny-they put the acupuncture needles below my knees.
Joanne, that's exactly why we left Brad's other church. I believe the teaching is for Sunday school . The new pastor is awesome!! I pray you find a new church . By the way, both churches were Baptist so there are certainly different ones. We go to a Southern Baptist in FL. You will find one-FL has the best churches and so many.
Going to try to get a lower premium on our FL insurance. Ours is almost 1300 for a small mobile home/ It's only 550 for our big house in MA.
Going with Auntie today afyer the chiro. I have a sore spot in my back. Giving out Christams gifts on thanksgiving!!!
Bye for now-hope you had a nice holiday, Anne. Ps-my toe is so much better. Mima

Hi everybody.

Mima - I guess your Thanksgiving isn't that far away fron Christmas. We had a good time. We went to my DIL mother's for dinner. Turkey, Dressing, Yams, veggies, mashed potatoes, buns, cabbage rolls, Pumpkin Pie and Blueberry Cheese Cake. I, myself, had turkey, veggies, cabbage roll and NO dessert. Didn't miss it at all.

Joanne - If you are not happy in your church, then it is time to find another. If you get nothing out of the sermon, what is the point? Some people are more gifted at speaking than others.

Meme - Glad your headache left and it sounds like you were back to your usual busy self. That's good. That exercise chair looks brutal. That would do me in for sure. No twisitng allowed for this body. It gets all the muscles in spasam and locks the Facet Joints.

Chris - good going on the weight loss. It feels good to be able to shed a couple of pounds every now and then. SAD is quite common where I live. It is now getting dark by 6:00 p.m. and not light until after 7:30 a.m. Soon it will be in the throws of winter and it will be dark by 5:00p.m. and not light until around 8:30a.m. The snow helps make it brighter. They say that the light helps.

Try pace yourself on the treadmill. Exercise is good, but not when it hurts you. I once did a couple of exercises one evening and once in the morning and then couldn't do ANYTHING for 8 weeks, between FM and OA. Get the
"Walk Away the Pounds" program. You just walk in place or just take a few steps forward, backward and sideways.

I have to stay away from Bran, oranges, most fatty foods, including baking, and a few dozen other things, or the IBS kicks in.

Tammy - glad you had a good day at school. I hope somebody comes along and buys that house. It is a pain trying to keep up two. I would be worried about somebody vandalizing it. You can't insure a vacant house in Canada.

I am going looking for a good masseause today. I have gotten the muscles on the right hand side, from just under the shoulder blade right down to the waist and into the ribs, in some kind of knots. I did go have a massage on Saturday, but that was in Edmonton and I need somebody here. They really hurt.

Hope you all have a good day.

Joanne D 10-11-2006 07:05 PM

Hey There

Happy- Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving.. Yes I am going to look for another church..I am not getting anything from the message.
Meme- Good advice,I plan to go this Sunday. I will talk to my son and his wife after.. If they are happy there that's for them to decide.. I suspect that they may be feeling the same as we are.. My DIL mentioned that the mimister was just so deep.I like your twister..That dance was the thing about 35 years ago.. It was a lot of fun.. I doubt I could do it much without damage.
Mima- There really aren't that maney churchs close by me.. There is a Presbyterian a couple blocks from me.. I don't know much about them other than it is another religion.. But ,I feel it isn't the name but the message.I may visit them..
Tammy- I know the homes are not selling down here. As a matter a fact there are a lots of people losing there homes now..There are a lot of homes forsale. Between the taxes, insurance, and and payments they just can't maintain and hold on.It is a shame, but, a lot of people bought over their heads. But, never-the-less I hope you sell yours.
Hello Chris- Try some hifiber cereal. That is what I do 4-5 times a week. I don't want to get into the laxative habit,so I don't take them..
Joanne

Tammy 10-11-2006 08:34 PM

Chris, sorry that you overdid it and are hurting. Wish that light box would come in sooner for you.

Mima, glad that toe is better!! Do you have my Christmas gift yet? I'll be glad to get it at Thanksgiving!! lol

Anne, your meal and the meal for the rest both sounded delcious. A group of teachers used to do that "Walk away the Pounds". We would get together a couple nights after school. It was so much fun. We are able to insure the empty house. It is located in a nice neighborhood, and our old neighbors keep an eye on things. We also have the police dept. checking it out during the night. It helps that Tim is friends with a couple of them. I sure hope you are feeling better! It made me hurt just reading about the knots!

Joanne, the home for sale in this county where we live is amazing. It is just hard to believe, and there aren't very many selling. We feel fortunate to have had an offer on it even though they need to sell theirs first. Their home would be nice for a couple just starting out or someone ready to downsize.

I just finished a box of one of the Kashi cereals. Normally I have to put sugar on cereal, but this was fine just with the milk. Of course, I can't remember which one it was right now. I'm sure I'll remember when I get to the store.

Water aerobics was really fun tonight. I was so tired, and I was getting slap happy. Oh my! We all had the giggles. Our ages range from one woman in her mid-30's to another woman in her mid-70's. Next Wed. is our last class for this session, so after that class we will go to the bowling alley and have pizza. LOL We did that last year too. It's fun to just sit and talk. We only get a couple pizzas for all of us, so we don't eat too much. Tonight we were talking about getting pitchers of margaritas. If I would do that, I'd be under the table!!

Got a note from the principal today. He is planning to observe me next week. I don't do my own plans, I do what the other teachers are doing except I work with the lower kids, so I can't even let him know what I'm planning to do. Oh well.

MemeToo 10-12-2006 03:00 AM

Heh, heh, heh ... been a while since I got a note from the principle ... matter of fact, don't think that has EVER happened! :D

Don't worry ... decided not to get the 'twister' ... don't want to wind up in the hospital from over rotating my 'facet' joints! Having enough trouble with all my other joints without knocking my back out!

I ordered some of those peppermint oil capsules from amazon ... haven't gotten them yet, though. I thought I was safe with what I ate today, had Slimfast, chicken strips and chicken salad sandwich. Still not feeling the best in the world. Tomorrow I'll try oatmeal and egg whites ... slimfast (milk) may not be a good choice.

We have a stray dog ... I put Sami on the porch at 1 A.M. & shut the gate to keep them apart and the other stupid dog kept me up half the night last night barking at her ... right outside my window. Gonna go see if I can get some sleep.

Mima 10-12-2006 06:54 AM

Barking dog!!! Not good for sleep along with snoring husbands and panting dogs. Not sleeping through, back to the den.
Yeah, I got 2 days work, maybe more. I do want to see my friends. Lots of stores in the area to shop!!!!!
Yum, yum, Thanksgiving meal-you are so good Anne. Our thanksgiving is the 23rd. Nice amd early to get ready for Fl. Don't want to miss the Christmas Pageant which is early in December.
walked with Auntie-nice and brisk. But the soup had onions at lunch-can't tolerate them.
Hope your stomache is better, Chris. I will have a real test of mine when i go away. Problem is that I get week and eat the cookies which are made of wheat. 2 days is good. We invited the Couple Bible Study group to come that week. I will have to get ready ahead and threaten my husband to keep it clean. LOL
I get my pepermint oil at the Health food store-12 $ for a bottle which would last a month but I don't take them all the time. Sure stops the cramps. DR. Andrew Weil also recommends them. He is holistic. I will take all my ammunition to work.
Poured last night!! Mima

CarebearsChris 10-12-2006 10:21 AM

I am a mess right now. I have been trying too hard to loss weight and am paying the price now. I had worked up to walking on the treadmill for 5 minutes 4 times a day. Back went out on me night before last. All of the fruit I am eating has the IBS working overtime. I have to back off some. As usual I know I can't do things like a normal person but I try. I know better but have to learn the lesson all over again.

Tammy 10-12-2006 09:00 PM

Meme, I think that is probably a good idea about the twister. I'd think what you had to eat today would have been safe too. Hmmm. No barking dogs around us, just the train that isn't very far away. Some nights I never hear it, but those other nights are awful.

Mima, I love onions. I'll have to remember that if I ever invite you over for supper. lol

Chris, cut back on how long you do, but maybe do it more often? I don't know really. Sorry about your back. Don't try to lose too fast. Slow and steady is what my doctor told me. I'd love to get it all off of me before the new year, but I know that isn't logical for me.

Cold today. Tim called after percussion practice and said that they froze! The director let them leave about 30 minutes early. 1 1/2 hours out in the cold was bad enough, so I guess he felt sorry for them.

Mima 10-13-2006 06:17 AM

It's cold here today!!!Got shopping for Keith finished and bought a lot of Christmas bags in the dollar store-hate wrapping. When i get to FL-if we ever get there, I will only have to do The FL people.
Couples Bible study tonight-i have started to clean for my turn in Nov. Hope it stays ok-Brad is out working!
Oh, Chris, I always hurt myself too. Walking and swimming seem to be the only things I can do safely. Hope you heal. My doc gave me Bentyl for the cramps in Diverticulosis but it calms my stomache for IBS. Really, you have to get Peppermint oil capsules/
Hey Tammy, it's Friday!! Anne, are you back to work? Joanne, what is your quilt like and who is it for? Mima
