Fibromyalgia #27

Good morning.

Mima - You are so active and I am so jealous. I tried Tai Chi a few years ago, but because of the way my lower back is, I couldn't do some of those moves. It would lock and cause such pain. I have never been back. I find walking probably the best thing for me. Also water areobics are great, but I have to go to far to do them. We are getting a pool at long last, here at the lake. Should be opened by Feb. next year. A massage would feel great today. I woke up with a headache for some unknown reason. I hate that:mad:

Joanne - So you did it did you! You ate all the nuts. Well at least know that you got a lot of good stuff out of them. The Cheetos on the other hand, well:lol:

Ally, Meme, Candice - Haven't heard from you guys, but I hope you are having good times. The weather has been FANTASTIC here, and it appears that it is to continue into next week. It is very hard to get around in my little town. We had about 40,000 extra people here, on roads made for 7000, so you can imagine the hold ups.

Mima 07-13-2001 02:01 PM

Tai Chi

I'm not sure about the tai chi class-I thought it was about relaxation but they -2 young guys-spent a lot of time showing how you could protect yourself-imagine senior citizens throwing an attacker to the ground-and no mention of breathing. I came home and fell asleep and my rib thing hurts. Maybe I'll try yoga in a chair on Wed. I do try a lot of things but most of thjem hurt me. Walking a swimming-not water aerobics-seem to be the best. Hope you get your pool soon.Happy.Thanks for starting the new thread. Where are you in Canada? I have relatives in Montreal and my great grandfather was head of the police there-in the 1800's. The family name is Richard.Have a good day.Mima

Happy Canuk 07-13-2001 02:16 PM

Hi

Sorry that Tai-Chi didn't work so well for you. It is a martial art, but is usually taught as an exerise. I know that when I do deep breathing it hurts my ribs as well. Have you ever heard of Oxysize? Here is a link for it www.oxysize.com Meme was doing this for a while, but I don't think she has felt well enough to do it at all.

I live in Western Canada, in Alberta. We are having fantastic weather right now, and it is seldom that we have humid weather, as it is a really dry climate here. Even the snow is usually dry.

I am off to do some baking and make some Bruschetta. I love that stuff, however, I have never made it, but there is a first time for everything. Wish me luck.

Also got my haircut yesterday and ran all over the place doing some errands and I feel good.

I don't know if it is the Chiro treatments, I would almost have to believe that it is, but the FM has diminished to just a very few aches and pains now, and my back is doing ok - not without pain, but then, I guess it never will be. I have also been taking a product called Super Natural (Specta 12) and I think that is the reason I have been able to get of the meds for the Hiatal Hernia. I always do this and try a bunch of new stuff and then don't know what worked, so it is a process of elimination - AGAIN. I ask you, how swift is this? but I MUST keep trying. I can honestly say, that I have not felt this good in the past 6-7 years. My energy has returned as well, and I am sleeping so well. Now I am afraid to stop anything - just in case.

Did you start on the Guaif yet?

Anne

MemeToo 07-13-2001 03:36 PM

Not quite as hot here today...only in the mid 80s. I feel a little better (I think!) with the emphases on little! Haven't been sleeping very much lately! I was supposed to have a long weekend again but...NOT! Daughter said she'd trade me Monday for Sat. so I could have my Ann. off...she wants to go to Nashville Sat. So I said ok...thinking I'd get to rest. Then, along comes hubby and says...Oh...you have Mon. off? Let's go to Pigeon Forge for our Ann. So we leave Sun. and are going for the night. And tomorrow he wants me to go fishing with him. Normally this would be a nice, relaxing treat for me but the way I am hurting does not go well with getting up and down in a boat! I need a few days of from everything! ...(and everybody!)

I know you all get sooooo tired of hearing me gripe! Sorry! I'll try to stop. Ross and I have been searching the web for spiderman stuff to make him a web page. I found a "web" background that I'm going to use and we are going to call it "Ross' Web Page. Isn't that cute? We found some really "cool" (his word) clipart and animated gifs to put on it. He has new pictures I'm going to use. My other grandson wants a Star Wars or Batman page. I found a lot of Star Wars stuff but not so much of Batman. Jenna just got new 2 yr. pictures and I'm going to do her a Blue's Clues. I don't know what Kaylyn wants yet. When I get them all done I'll show them to you. I sure wish I could "make a living" from designing...I love doing it (when I don't feel so bad!) I'm taking a course in web design...maybe when I get my degree I'll be able to get some business.

Well...Ross and I have already been on here far too long and it is nap time for them so I'll go put them to bed. Hope all you gals have a great weekend! Talk to you again Monday night.

Candicej 07-14-2001 06:15 AM

Just a quick Hi

then off to bed:dz:  :dz: Got my garage all cleaned and organized...now my house! The basement is cool so it will be next! I need some sleep bad!

Mima..that was not a mistake it was a year date 1982!:smug:

Hi Joanne, Anne, Ally and Meme:wave:

My yard and house from south to north:)

Mima 07-14-2001 06:38 AM

Good morning!

Confession-started and stopped the guaf-will try again-too many appts. with people using lotions with ingred. that I wasn't sure of. Candice-those flowers-what a gift you have .My fuschia is coming back. yeah! I hurt a bit today and yesterday I ate things I am allergic to.I will go to that website and check it out-thanks, Anne. I'm going to a dance tonight so that will be my exercise. Only guy that asks me to dance spits in my face-actually in everyone's-poor guy-he has melanoma and was quite concerned. He spits because he has a speech impediment.Well, I get to see my friends and we dance to the fast dances as a group. I'm going to check out some web sites. Have a great day. Meme-you are so smart to make web pages-that's fun to do it with your grandchildren. I get to see mime in another week. Mima

Ally0306 07-14-2001 04:44 PM

OK It is a black day here in NY. Not due to the weather.....due to the fact that I took my measurements.
Eeeeeeeeeek!!!!
I have stayed off the scale ....told myself that was what I was using my weight to establish my mood each day, and obviously I was never in a good one.
But my waist is 34 inches.
Before I gained this last batch of weight it was 28 and I thought that was bad.
I have got to do a .....DIET.
I think the fiber is a good thing. Just have to cut down on the rest of the stuff I sneak.
Like those...nuts.
I think I will weigh myself on Monday. Might as well have the whole rotten picture.:(

Mima 07-15-2001 07:40 AM

Happy Sunday!

I only got 5 1/2 hours sleep last night but I had a lot of fun dancing-even if it was with the guy who spits-I just turned my head. And fast ones done as a group. It will take me all day to recover. I'm lucky to have so many single friends. My living room is full with my new tv, my broken old one, a huge box and an entertainment center in a box. Maybe my son will put it together while I'm in Florida. Hope everything is fine with everyone. Hurting but happy Mima.

Mima 07-16-2001 07:01 AM

Hello

Where is everyone-probably out having a normal life.I hear it's been raining a lot in Florida. My grandaughter wants to get a tan next week when we're there so could you please do something about the rain. Anyways, she doesn't realize how hot it is to sit in the sun.I know we're going to have a sunscreen argument. I have pieces of an entertainment center all ove my living room. My son said he'd put it together for me but I tried to get a head start. I am on page 2 out of 18 and I already put a piece in backwards.I put a bookcase together once and I put the shelf in upside down 2x.But it is an accomplishment. Weighin tonight-if I'm down .2 of a lb. I won't have to pay. We'll see. I haven't been good or bad but not as focused as I was before. Sound familiar. Have a great day everyone. Mima p.s -one calls me Mima and the other Grammy and both of my grandaughters will be together next week.

Joanne D 07-16-2001 10:17 AM

Good Morning

Good Morning--
I just read through all the messages and I guess I got behind somewhere. Or had a'Lost Weekend". I wonder how many of us remember that Movie? I have been doing pretty good. I ate out and got food poisoning, which wasn't so good. But pts. have been kept in line. No more nuts. The rain makes me hurt ,but, that's o.k. we need all we can get here in Florida.
Candicej ,I am still amazed at how nice you are keepng your yard and flowers. Surely you have help.
Mima- I hope you have a great time on you visit to Florida. Hope you enjoy the weather.
Ally- Don't let the scale or measuring tape ruin your day. Just get on a healthy eating plan and you will be fine .
Happy Canuk- I have been looking for a vidio tape that I can use for extra exercise, but so far they are mostly geared for a younger more agile person or on tv for the 95 year person. I will check the net today and see what I can find. Wal-mart surely didn't have any.
Memetoo- Where else can we vent? That's nice that your husband and you can do things together.
See you all later...Joanne

Happy Canuk 07-16-2001 01:12 PM

Hi All

http://www.castlemountains.com/flash...gs/today.shtml

Mima - have a great time in Florida and enjoy your visit. Dancing is such fun and really good exercise. Sure wish I could do more of it. I LOVE the polka, but a waltz is ok to. You are ambitious putting together a stereo system. Good for you and I hope you get it right. Men never read the instructions and somehow everything seems to work for them. Me, I read the instructions and end up throwing it at my husband to do.

Joanne - I love nuts and they are so good for you. Do you get the unsalted kind. Salt just makes you want more and more. To bad about the food poisoning - I think that happens more than we realize. We are also having rain today - this one is what is known in Alberta as the 'Million Dollar' rain. The farmers will be so happy, as it was getting so dry again. This past few days we have been having such unsettled weather. The thunder shook the house on Saturday night and woke me up - got up an watched the storm (4:00 a.m.) and the rain was just pouring down. Same again last night - today it is just rain.

Candice - I sure don't know how you keep up with all that gardening. That would paralyze me. I am not good at bending over or kneeling so I don't know how I would ever do it. I do enjoy other peoples' gardens however. Hope you are feeling not to bad.

Meme - Was this the weekend you were going away. Hope you had a good time. You are so ambitious - putting up pages for the kids. Good for you. They will love that.

Ally - Diets - eeeeeeeek! Good luck, but don't be so hard on yourself. As long as you feel good and are healthy that is the main thing. Some people lose to much and then start getting sick, with colds, flu etc. Just make sure you eat all the right nutrients and you will be fine. Some people are thin as rails, some are really heavy and the rest of us have a constant fight on our hands. I think this deters from some of the enjoyment in life, and that just shouldn't be.

Does anyone know if tornados strike in the middle of the night? We seem to have been have these horrible things the past few years. Never heard of them in Alberta before the one that struck Edmonton 13 years ago, and the one that struck Pine Lake last year (that one killed 11 people and maimed a whole lot more), and that wasn't very far from where I live.

Everyone have a great day.

Ally0306 07-16-2001 07:12 PM

I got a couple of books on Fibro from Amazon. com. One is by Devin Starlanyl and I am almost thru I but will have to read some again. Brain fog. But the nutrition section. This book recommends the Zone 30/30/40 diet. It says that Fibro people have to stay away from Carbohydrates and of course, most of the fiber I have been eating is carbs.'
I can't lie. I feel I gained the last few pounds and inches in just a few weeks of nuts, popcorn, chips etc that I just can't avoid at nite.
So....healthy eating. Yes. That fiber made me so regular and I felt pretty good, but I can't just sit here and gain weight in the name of good health. I don't think weight gain in the long run is going to do me any good.
SO, I am just trying to add some protein and cut the carbs a little. I was really eating a lot fo fruit. I think I forget the calorie and sugar content of fruit.
And Happy...I have a buddy at work who up until today, weighed the same as me. She is ADD, is always fidgetting and moving. BUT....she eats all this stuff. Bowls and Bowls of ice cream etc. And she didn't gain a pound. I gained ten eating fiber.
Arrrrrrrghghghghgh.

Mima 07-16-2001 07:24 PM

Hi again

Great to hear from everyone. I went to WW and was in 2 lbs of my high goal so I didn't have to pay-Personally I want to lose 5 lbs more then I can weigh in ok. Going to the Museum of Fine Artsw tomorrow with my sister-in-law. Never did put the entertainment center together-the boards are too heavy so now I have to wait for my son. I did put in 5 screws but they wouldn't go in because I had the screwdriver on reverse. I will try putting together my computer desk-that will be easier. Good night everyone. mima

MemeToo 07-16-2001 11:12 PM

WOW...you guys have been busy since I've been gone! I'm sooo tired, but we had a good time. If you ever get to go to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg be sure to eat at the Dixie Stampede. It was fun. They serve you your food and you have to eat everything with your fingers. A whole (very small) broasted chicken, a slice of tenderloin, a large slice (about 1/3) of herb roasted potato, corn on the cob, a cheese biscuit and an apple turnover and your drink is in a mason jar...neat. And the whole time you are eating there is a show going on in the arena below (really close though) of horses, riders, covered wagons, singing, ostriches, pigs, chickens and beautiful costumes some of which actually "light up". They divide all the audience into two sides (you pick your side when you call for reservations) the North against the South and the whole time there is a contest going on between the two. All the performers have on Union or Confederate costumes. They use people (and even some children) from the audience for some of the stunts, too. It was a lot of good natured and fun rivalry. The place seats about six or seven hundred but no seat was farther away than 25 feet. It was made like a horseshoe around the arena and went up in tiers, you ate at long curved bars instead of tables. I've been to Pigeon Forge and drove past the place more times than I can count but never been there until last night. Then today, we shopped 'till we dropped. I went "ring" shopping. I lost my wedding rings 2 weeks ago. Got them 36 years ago today. So today I got an anniversary ring. I don't want to get new wedding rings until I'm sure mine are not going to "turn up" somewhere! The last I remember seeing them is one night a couple of weeks ago I took them off to cook dinner...layed them on the back of the cabinets. Hubby pulled the stove out and looked behind it but they didn't fall off. I'm afraid we may have thrown them out!

Mima...congratulations on not having to pay at WW. I desperately need to lose weight. I'm going to work harder at it this week! I bought some Soy Slim Fast and it doesn't taste bad at all. The kind with milk gave me migraines. I'm going to try that the rest of the week (for 2 meals a day).

Ally...carbs is my downfall, too. I crave them at night! After reading your post about your waist I measured mine and it is TWO INCHES BIGGER THAN YOURS!!!  What'd you make me do that for??? :?:

Ann...yes, tornados hit at night. That's when we have the most of ours here.

Joanne...try Oxycise, Pilates or Callanetics. They are all something people with fibromyalgia/arthritis can do. There are a few positions you may have to leave off but for the most part they are easy on the body. Denise Austin has a Pilates 20 minute video that includes yoga that is good.

Candice...wish you'd come clean my garage...and my basement... and my HOUSE!!! I could start right now and not be finished by Christmas!

Well...I'm pooped. Gonna go take a hot shower and go to bed.
Nite all!

Here is a pic. of the ring I bought.

Happy Canuk 07-17-2001 12:05 AM

Meme sounds like a great time. All that food isn't good for ones diet, but it is good for ones mental health. I wonder which is more important. That ring is beautiful. I hope you find your wedding rings and by the way happy anniversary. You forgot to tell us. I know you are tired, but I hope you are not feeling to bad.

Mima - great news on ww. You are one busy lady - you could get going with Meme.

Ally - Try the Formula diet. It is so good and I wish I could get interested in doing it again. One should NEVER wander from an eating plan, as it is just to hard to go back.

Hi Candice and Joanne and Tootie if your reading.

Today I cleaned the house - scrubbed the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, washed clothes and few other things. THEN I thought I would JUST vacuum - BIG mistake. My back really is hurting me tonight. Hope it is just a little muscle thing.

Oh Meme - what is a broasted chicken - is it a southern dish HEHEHE

Hope you are all having a nice night.

MemeToo 07-17-2001 02:13 AM

I can't sleep!

My muscles are sooooo tight...shoulders and neck especially! Can't sleep. Actually, though, to have done all I have over the weekend I don't feel as bad as usual. Maybe the shot or methotrexate is beginning to kick in!!!

Anne...broasted chicken isn't necessarily a southern dish...actually we used to get it in Michigan a lot and I know they have it in the eastern states, too. It is basted and cooked on a rotisserie and is delicious. A cross between baking and roasting I guess!

Candicej 07-17-2001 06:22 AM

Help..who has help.not me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meme..sounds like a good trip! Hope you find your rings...I did that when we were first married took them off to wash my hands in a resturant and left them on the sick, a nice lady found them and gave them back to me! I was so embarrassed:o

Anne..You clean more than me! It always leaves me hurting!

Mima..dancing.huh! Good exercise!

Joanne...Food poisoning..yuck! Hope you are better! What did you eat anyway????????

Hi Toots!:)

Hello

Hello Everyone
Memetoo, sounds like you had a great time. Thanks for the vidio tape information .I will try to find a good one next time I get out. My daughter orders hers from her health magazines. I may look that way too.
Candice I ate at a KFC in Sarasota. No telling how long that food had been setting out. Never again!I am sure it didn't help my pts. Although I got rid of most of it. Hope today is a better day.
Mima- Good deal with Ww. Hope I have a good lose this week too. I need it for my self esteem.
Hello Happy Canuk, This house work is never ending. I keep my heating pad close by all the time. Every time I vacumn I have to use it. I remember a Dr. telling me a few years ago not to vacumn or mop because it was bad for my back. I said to him "and who is going to do it?"Ofcourse he had no answers. My hubby ,one time in 48 yrs said he would do it .It was after my knee replacement. I caught him sitting in a chair pushing the vacumn cleaner.!:(
Ally, I know what you mean about some people who can eat anything they want and not get a weight problem. Don't let them get you down. Just take care of yourself. You will be fine. :)
Bye Girls.....Joanne:wave:

Happy Canuk 07-17-2001 03:00 PM

Ally and Meme

Ally - yet another new book! It is called Eat Fat, Lose Weight written by Ann Louise Gittleman M.S., C.N.S. and it basically follows the 40-30-30 diet. I just want to type a little of it for you to read.

The Big Fat Lie

The American public has been brainwashed with a great big fat lie - a lie that has been told, retold, and told again over the past 15 years. It is a lie that, in my opinion, has resulted in widespread harm to the overall health of our nation.

The lie, one of the biggest marketing hoaxes of the 20th century, is that fats are the ultimate dietary killers. What’s more, the lie has been extended to cover all fats, not just a few harmful ones. Many of the nation’s food companies would have us believe that all fats are harmful, despite widely known scientific evidence that fats are, biochemically speaking, very different from one another. Just pick up any newspaper of women’s magazine and you can learn all of the newest, most creative ways to slash the fat, cut the fat, lost the fat, or lower the fat. We’ve been told that we can eat whatever we want, whenever we want, all the time, as long as the food we eating is fat free. Unfortunately, doctors, dietitians, and others who should know better, seem to have forgotten that fat happens to be an essential nutrient, necessary for the health and well-being of our bodies and our brains.

Advertisers have learned that the words fat free, low fat, or reduced fat translate into an instant sales boost. Just take a look at how low-fat Snackwells have replaced Oreos as the nation’s best selling cookie. The magic adjectives “low fat” and “fat free” seem to convey to us that we have unlimited permission to scarf down whole boxes of the stuff - without getting fat!

So let’s look at the evidence. Since we as a nation have gone fat free, here’s what has happened:
1. Obesity has increased more that 23 percent
2. Adult-onset diabetes has skyrocketed.
3. The incidence of certain kinds of heart disease has increased
4. Depression has become a widespread national disorder
5. Immune system viral infections like chronic fatigue and other illnesses are rampant.

While every disease is not necessarily associated with a far-free diet, the fact is that these diseases have increased while fat intake has declined. This is a phenomenon that begs to be investigates. While it is true Dr. Dean Ornish’s low far diet (along with lifestyle factors like meditation, yoga, and stress reduction) has reversed heart disease in some cases, the dangerous message we keep getting is that ALL fats is ALL bad ALL the time.

That was the introduction to the book. It talks of the Essential fats, Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9. We must eat them in order to have them. Our bodies do not make them. Without them serious health problems can happen.

This is probably one of the most informative books I have ever read in relation to how essential fats actually run our body. I have been trying this for the past week, Taking a tablespoon of flaxseed oil (before I took only 1 capsule) 2 capsules of evening primrose oil 2 or 3 times a day and Olive oil or Canola oil both cold pressed. I made a salad dressing out of flaxseed oil, and olive oil, vinegar and herbs etc. Tastes pretty good. Made a mayonnaise with the canola oil and it is reallly good.

This book was only $10.00 here so it would only be about $5.00 US.

Just thought I would pass this along, because Essential Oils are imperative for good health.

I am not talking fat from deep fried foods, or fried foods. These fats are good and necessary. Without them, we end up with fatigue, brain fuzziness, itchy skin, brittle hair and fingernails and internal organs that do not function right. Also, by adding some of these oils, the craving stop because you feel satisfied.

Ally0306 07-17-2001 07:57 PM

Oh Happy Anne...You are such a good researcher. When I was doing the Zone I considered my fat the olive oil dressing I made with Good Season's dressing. Or some nuts. But other than that I was never sure how to add that proportion of fat into my eating. I love salads so that is not a problem, but I was eating too many veggies...not enough protein and then I would be starving later.
I am going to find that book......
ANd Meme...so sorry about the waist.
You know, I figured that I wanted to maybe be a nice ole Size 14 and I looked on LLBean and that means I would have to have a waist of 31 1/2 inches. BUT, 14W means I don't have to lose anything.
Face it...the place us ladies gain weight after 40 is in our waist. I know I can't avoid it, but that ten pounds has GOT to go before it is stuck on there for good.
I can always lose the last few pounds I gained pretty fast since it is mostly water retention.
But my waist and the size of my upper arms is depressing me big time this summer.
And yes, when my friend talks about ice cream pig outs and I know that I pigged out on popcorn...it just doesn't seem fair. I will gain and she won't.
Meme...that restaurant sounds like a blast.

MemeToo 07-18-2001 12:47 AM

But...

Chew on this! When I went to the Rheumatologist in Nashville last week I asked him about diet, esp. sugar and carbs. He said that...(hope you are sitting down!)...FAT! made inflamatory diseases worse. He said instead of worrying about sugar and stuff I should be cutting the fat out of my diet. He said that he would limit the sugar only because it caused fat on the body! Isn't THAT interesting???

Happy Canuk 07-18-2001 12:59 AM

Meme, get a copy of the above book and read it. It is so interesting. Fat does cause inflammation if it is NOT an essential fat. Drs. tend to group everything together. If you have dry skin, brittle hair and nails amoung many other things, you are lacking fat. Even I know that every body needs fat just to make it survive. Your brain can't survive without fat. However, transfats like margarine, shortening etc. are just plain BAD. Oils such as Mazola and Crisco are full of free radicals that cause illness. Deep fat fried foods in restaurants are even worse, because the oil is putrid as they don't bother to change it terribly often.

Good fats include the Omega 3 (for heart) Omega 6 and Omega 9. The rest are best left alone. And, you have to make sure and get a really good oil and only enough for 1 month at a time. It should be a coldpressed oil - Olive Oil and Canola Oil (Omega 9). Butter is also ok in small amounts.

I don't believe any Dr. that says to eliminate ALL fat from the diet. It certainly has its place. I think a lot of disease may be caused because of LACK of the right fats.

Anne

Mima 07-18-2001 07:01 AM

Hello!

I agree that you need good fats. I use olive oil, and Smart Balance margerine with no transfatty acids-those are bad. But I definitely keep away from the bad fats. I was also told many years ago that there is a relationship between sugar and high cholesterol. And triglycerides.I like the flax seed oil idea-that is supposed to be good for you. My HDL is 90-very high , so I think I am on ther right track. I also use eggs with omega 3 in them -which is what the margerine has .My cholesterol keeps going down and my HDl keeps going up-also salmon and fish are good. Maybe we need to concentrate on what is good for your body-this from the woman who had a 1/2 of a chocolate bombe-mousse covered with choclate-at my wonderful trip to the art museum yesterday. At least we did some walking. I'm making lunch today for 2 health conscious friends so that shouldn't be too bad. I'm feeling very stuffy AND I've been eating things I'm allergic too.But I heard about some popcorn with no seeds. Going to search for it on the net. Have a great day everyone!

MemeToo 07-18-2001 03:16 PM

No more babies please!

In order for this to make sense...you have to know that I've been working on my picture albums (scarpbooking) and I'm currently on my daughter's shower pages and the birth of her first son, Ross, who is now 4. He has been looking at the pictures of his mom when she was 8 and 9 months pregnant.

I was making a slim fast in the blender this morning and Ross asked me what it was. I told him it was a shake for losing weight. He said, "Meme...do you WANT to lose weight?" I said yes Ross I WANT to lose weight...I'm fat! Don't you think Meme's fat?" He said, "No...so....does this mean you're going to have a baby?" Gotta love 'em!

Ally0306 07-18-2001 08:54 PM

So, tell me some other good fat foods guys. I am getting sick of salad.
Meme...don't you hate it when your Doc says something that is different that you have read anywhere. And you think you should believe him cause after all...he does have a degree.
If you need diet advice...go find an overweight woman. We are notdoing what we are supposed to, but we know everything there is to know about it!!!!
No snacking at night for me so far...this is hard. It means eating later so I don't have the sancking opportunity.

Mima 07-19-2001 07:04 AM

Good morning!!

Hello everyone-Meme-what a beautiful ring.Did you find your other one's yet? I think canola oil is supposed to be good.I haven't been feeling well-every once in a while I get a major sinus reaction to foods and I feel sick-unless it's a cold.I guess I'll get some hot and sour soup-that usually cures it. I'm supposed to walk with my aunt but I might postpone it.I had company for lunch but we ate healthy . Mostly. Haven't been doing my points so I think I may be in trouble-haven't felt good enough to walk.I'm not going to a meeting for 2 weeks so I need to count pts.Yell at me , people!!!!!!!I tutored a really nice boy yesterday. I guess I really like to teach but I don't want a classroom.I'm rambling. Have a great day everyone.P.S.-Where is my computer table from Staples that was supposed to be delivered Tues. !!!!!!!!!Mima

Joanne D 07-19-2001 03:10 PM

Hey

Hey There Mima ,Memetoo. Ally and Happycanuk...
I lost 2 lbs of the 5 over goal I gained .I'll shout after I get down past goal again. I have to agree with Happy our body does need some of the good fats. I thought that slim fast had a lot of sugar. I was drinking that once when I got really sick and landed up in the hospital. They were doing all kinds of tests and doing finger sticks. They said I had a lot of sugar in my system. I told them I was not diabetic. I like to use Genisoy from GNC. It is a really good drink full of vitamins and a lot of good stuff. I thought that fat butt trying on the bathing suit was good. That's how I used to feel a few years back. Now I just don't look in the mirror when I try one on. I usually go with my daughter and say to her . "How does it look." If she says "Good Mom" I buy it.:)
Hello Candicej
Bye Joanne:wave:

Happy Canuk 07-19-2001 03:43 PM

Hi Everyone

Mima - sorry to here you are not feeling well. You are so active and take such good care of yourself, you do have to wonder how come I person gets to this state. That pain is really something to wrestle with at times. Are you getting a computer desk or what type? Take care and I know that you will do just fine - just get back on track! I know that sometimes that is easier said than done, but you have done so well.

Joanne - Good for you. That is so great and you should celebrate even if you are not quite were you want to be. It is still great.

Meme - Out of the mouths of babes come the truth(lol). My granddaughter is coming in about 1/2 an hour and we will take her back home on Saturday. Have to go to a wedding on Saturday and her Mom wants to go to Klondike Days in Edmonton (an exhibition). She is still young enough to like the rides. I think we will end up take Ashley to the Red Deer fair tomorrow night providing the weather is ok. Sure a lot of serious weather around right now. Are you starting to feel better. You mentioned that on the weekend you thought you were feeling better and that maybe the meds were starting to work. I sure hope so.

Ally - When you eat a salad, use Extra Virgin Olive Oil as the dressing. YOu can make a nice dressing using olive oil, a little vinegar, garlic, Italian spices, dried tomates etc. It may not be as 'tasty' as some of the bottled ones, but it sure is better for you. You can take gel capsules with Evening Primrose and eat fish or take flax seed capsules or just take a tbsp. of oil on something you eat. If you fry the fish in the Olive Oil you get a double whammy. Olive oil is old and has been around and used for medicial purposes for literally thousands of years. The Greeks used to use it to rub on sore muscles as well. If you are of a constipated nature, just injest 2 TBPS. of Olive Oil in the morning on an empty stomach. Supposed to be a great laxative. Also, there are such good properties in Olive oil that it is a known heart protector as well. They say to replace butter with Olive oil on Popcorn or even on bread. Just set a tiny bowl of oil out and dip your bread in it. See how easy it is to injest good oil. Now for the bad stuff: Margarine, shortening, That new stuff called, I think, Olesta?(can't get it in Canada), fat from animal origin and Oils such as Canola and Olive Oil should be cold pressed, meaning they have only been pressed once, the oil extracted and then bottled. Regular oil has been cooked and all the nutrients are long gone, as well as they release free radicals into the system.

Enough, now?

Candice, we hardly EVER hear from you. Are you stuck down in the basement? It is nice that you come up for air and submit a beautiful picture, but gee whiz, I would like to hear how you are doing. How is your arm? You were going for another shot you said. Is the FM ok right now or what.

I went to the Chiro yesterday and feel a whole lot better. My knee was so sore, it kept me awake for 2 nights, and then the sciatic nerve startedup, from my butt to my ankle was that pain. Anyway, a treatment took care of the nerve problem, and he said the Tibia (I think) had slid over a bit, so he did something with that. It is much better today, but still a little tender. My legs are also aching. Usually takes a couple of days for everything to settle down after a treatment.

Now, I will tell you all that I have been taking a wonderful product called Spectra 12. It is a probiotic and I have been taking it since May( off and on during that month, as you know, I was with my daughter, and I forgot to take it with me). Anyway I started to take in again everyday in June and I have regained my energy. I am pretty sure this is the reason I do not have to take the meds for the Hiatal Hernia any longer. Anyway, between this and the Chiro, last week was the most wonderful week I have had in 6 years. I felt so well. I don't know how to explain that feeling, but even today when things are hurting, I FEEL well. I will put the website here if any of you want to read about it. It is worth the money, at least it is to me.

www.supernatural.com

It never hurts to read and learn things, so that is why I post them. If you would rather I didn't please, just let me know. I am ALWAYS looking for something to help me and sometimes get to enthusiastic.

Hope your are all having a great day. It is pretty nice out here today, and I sat outside and let the sun beat on my legs. It is so much better than a heating pad, I believe it penetrates deeper, and of course, then there is the added benefit of the sun.

Well better go do some work.

Anne

Ally0306 07-19-2001 09:41 PM

Happy Anne....I am glad you have found something that makes you feel better. You do sound like you have more energy. Thank you as well for the Olive Oil advice. My exboyfriend bought a gallon of it right before we split up, so I think I got enough for a while.
BUT.......Except for salad dressing, I dont have many things I use it with. No bread for me. That is dangerous. I may try downing a couple of spoonfuls tho, cause I am not eating the fiber as much and you know what that means.;)
Joanne...was it you within a pound or two of where you want to be? I bow to you.......
I can only hope I lose one pound of the 30 i want to dump tomorrow just to keep me from jumping into the kitchen and eating everything in site.
Meme....I bet you find those rings one day...
Mima......nothing comes in the mail when you are waiting for it.
How is Tootie....does she know we miss her?

Mima 07-20-2001 07:03 AM

hello!!!!!!

I am sitting at mynew computer desk-WHICH I PUT TOGETHER MYSELF-only 4 hours and I ache today which is reasonable for that job. My sinuses are still bad but I'm going to the chiro this morning.Happy-I'm so glad you are feeling better. And I love those links-so don't quit. You do so much work for everone.Hey Ally-try something like metamusil to replace fiber-but check the brand for the sugar.Complex carbs lower the cravings. I yelled at myself yesterday and did my points. Walking and lunch with my aunt today but we are not going too far.Have a great day everone. Superwoman Mima As you can figure out the delivery came yesterday.

Joanne D 07-20-2001 10:13 AM

Good Morning

Good Morning Girls-
Happy Canuk ,You sound like such a pleasant person to have around. You should be my neighbor. It has been years since I have had a cup of coffee with a neighbor. They are all too busy or have thier own set of friends. This is why I enjoy thus site so much. You are right about the olive oil. It is the only oil I use.
Ally ,You can use olive oil for all your cooking. I made some sguid sauce yesterday and was going to leave out the oil because of the fat content but my hubby said "you have to put in a little so it will taste good" The recipee called for 3/4 cup,I used 1/4. I think I was over my points but I just didn't take the time to calculate. I cook Greek now and then and you know that is not WW.
I lost 2 lbs of the wt. I gained over my goal Weight. I have 3 lbs.to get to my 2 lbs allowence over goal. In other words I have to get under 150. I want to get to 140. I used to be 212.
Mima Good for you putting your table together. Goes to show we can do a lot of things the men think we can't. My hubby is from the "old school". He thinks women are supposed to not be capable. That is untill he needs help and I supply it. He would never in this lifetime admit that it was anyones ideas but his. HA. He will never learn!
You all have a Great Day......Joanne

Ally0306 07-20-2001 07:12 PM

Good for you Joanne. What size are you now that you are close to your goal weight?
I can't believe that my goal weight is what I weighed when I went to WW years ago after I had twins. 150. I think my body wanted that at the time although I started at 130.
Now it seems to be reaching for .......180. And mostly in my stomach and arms.
So, i lost two pounds and while that was nice, it is not like the old days where I would really buckle down, starve a few days and lose 5-10lbs by the weekend when I needed to fit into a pair of jeans.
I still need to find that healthy eating plan. Today some guru was on the radio expounding protein and pretty much saying that you need to get carbs right out of your diet.
How can that be? But I WILL tell you that I am in carb withdrawal. Even those veggies and fruit I have been eating for fiber are carbs....and to take those away and replace with protein has sent my stomach crazy.
Mima...glad you got your table.
Meme and Happy and all....have a nice weekend.
It is hot, hot, hot here.
Does sunshine effect anyone? I have migraines......

Joanne D 07-20-2001 08:32 PM

Hey

Hey Ally and all you good people
I am a size 12-14 occording to what I am wearing. I like comfortable clothes so I usually wear a larger size. I can't tolerate too tight clothes. They make me nervouse. It is really hot here in the summer so loose clothes are better. I think that WW has the healthest eating plan. I tried all the other ways over a 30+ yr span of trying to lose wt. They didn't work. Your body needs a well balanced diet. High protien will work for a while if you don't get sick from it. Not too good for your colesterol. We need some carbs and fats and fiber.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. See you tomorrow. Bye...Joanne:angel:

Mima 07-21-2001 06:12 AM

Good Morning!

Another adventure! My 5 day old tv wasn't working right and they said to bring it back. There are some things I cannot even try and carrying a 27 inch tv. is one of them. My son Bob-the one who gave me a hard time as a teenager-came over-put it in my car-followed me to the store where I got another one-and brought my new one home. Now I have to figure out the connections because I told him to put the cable in the wall-not through the box and that doesn't get all my channels.I CAN DO THAT!!!!!! I really think the WW diet is the best because of the variety of foods you eat. Do you think some of the carb cravings are related to sugar withdrawal? That sends me in to a depression. Temporarily.I have put a little sugar back in my I can feel myself getting the cravings.I eat less carbs now but I have cereal for breakfast-complex carbs-i slice of bread at lunch-a granola bar-and rice or potato for dinner.I don't think that is a lot of carbs.I walked 90 minutes with my aunt yesterday.I only lose a lb. a week when I'm good but that's ok. I am 62 so it takes longer.Remember the turtle and the hare. There is nothing that tastes as good as feeling thin feels. Have a great day everyone.I hope you are having fun,Happy.Mima

Ally0306 07-21-2001 10:39 AM

Hi Mima and joanne.
Yeah, I like loose clothes and at 150 I can wear the size 14 I have chosen as my goal weight.
I did pack up the 12s in my closet. I may not see them again.
But this carb stuff IS different for us fibro people.
I did eat so nice and healthy the last few months. No cookies, cakes, candy or white sugar at all and I hit the good carbs big time. Lots of fresh veggies and more fruit than I have ever eaten in my life.
I would eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. I found that I needed that snack and that may have been that carbo reactive hypoglycemia.
Now that I do carb, protein and fat together, I don't get those gnawing hunger pangs an hour later.
But I am having carbo withdrawal. I just don;t feel good.
But it IS 90 degrees.

Candicej 07-22-2001 03:24 AM

I'm still here!

For two days...fatigue! Arrgh........
But today I did get on the Treadmill...but I have to make sure I don't hold on with my bad arm cause it is really hurting again. It is so bad it is keeping me form cleaning and gardening.(sleeping too!) Just light work with one hand is all I can do! Did get Dh some good meals this week and the laundry all done too.

I eat only olive oil and try to get the rest in my foods, I love fish and salmon and Tuna and all are so good for you! My son did research on oils and told me not to eat anything but
olive oil So that is what I do. I just got my blood work back and my cholesterol is down to 165 from 205 so I must be doing something right. My HDL is usually high too. Just a tsp is like 1 point so I don't go overboard with adding extra to my eating plan. Dh is taking flaxseed and olive oil his mother gave him to help his highblood pressure(hasn't worked) and he takes a tsp of both a day at least and has gained weight! You have to remember a calorie is a calorie and cutting back on your total calories is the only way to lose weight or increase exercise to burn more! There is no easy way gals! Just try to eat healthier over all.

Happy I like the info you post..then I don't have to go searching for it! Hope you are feeling better.

Ally and Joanne I can't stand tight clothes either, so everything is baggy on me but I'm comfy and that's all I care about!

Meme, Love the big butt picture looks like my MIL!:lol:

Hi Mima, I say all things in moderaton and then you don't feel deprived of anything! WW is a great program you just have to follow it and stick with it for life! It is a weigh of life they say!

Another one of my kitties:DBy the weigh I am down another 1.5 new total is 48.5!

Mima 07-22-2001 07:38 AM

Hello

Hey-Candice-congrats on your weight loss-I am the head dork-the tv I brought back may not have been defective-My neighbor told me the cable had gone out!!!!THEY told me to bring it back so I did.I am suffering the usual pretrip anxiety.Tomorrow at 11 I'll be going to muggy, hot, rainy Ft. Myers.Much different from Feb. and March. But my family will be there so that's all that counts. And I'm bringing my step-grandaughter on her first airplane ride. She is so excited. I never flew til I was 50-too scared. Now I fly everywhere. My sister-in-law and I are planning a trip to Italy next year.Been prett good with the points-walked last night for insurance-Candice-I get it about your arm-fibro just shows up everwhere. Check to see if your holding it tensely. That's half of my problem-My hips stopped hurting when I relaxed my legs. Well-have a great day everyone!!!!Mima

Ally0306 07-22-2001 11:01 AM

Congratulations Candice!!!:D :D :D

So, how long in total did that take you? And how many clothes sizes have you lost? Did you have to buy all new clothese????

Yes, it looks like there is a consensus....olive oil.
And yesterday I have fried chicken wings and wine.

Oh well, gotta break lose or I will get bored.

Candicej 07-23-2001 04:12 AM

Mima..I have had a problem with this elbow since last spring when I had my first injection in it. Holding on the treadmill with it vibrations agravates it the doc told me

My stomach is acting up again and so is my computer!

Meme..what do you do to make your computer run smoother.I defragmented but it is not helping much. Should I clear disk space???? It says I still have about 3/4 of it left.. Help me please! It is taking for ever to do anything, makes a noise like the computer is thinking for a long time! It used to say cache clean up all the time and now it does not ..could that be the problem?
