Fibromyalgia #128
Hey guys-post here. Mima
|
Hey There
I wondered where you all were... I haven't been up to staying on the computer so just about all I have done is read... Weather here is beautiful. Parts of the day I can turn off the air and open my house up to the fresh air outside ,whatever that is.Our brother and his wife are down for a month from Az. We are really enjoying them.
Hello everybody...Joanne |
I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple months ago. The medications that I'm taking were helping with the pain. Now that it has turned cooler, the pains are back and I'm becoming more tired again. Is this normal?
|
Fibromyalgia is crazy. It rears it's ugly head sporadically. Tiredness is normal. Do you do mild evercise like walking or swimming. That seems to help and also massage. Keep coming back here and you will hear us one by one talk about pain. Best to you, Tammy. OK , where is Menme and Candice and Anne-how was the wedding. Put a pic on with your dress!!!! Went to the eye doc yestreday thinking I would be scheduled for cataract surgery-which I want-but not ready yet, She told me I had very dry eyes and that could be interfering with driving at night. Drops 4 times a day. All the time I thought it was allergies. haven't heard from the stess test yet. I would like to know!!!! And Hi Anagram. Joanne, my son told me how nice it was. Can't wait. Mima
|
Hi Tammy...........Mima is right about Fibro...I get worse with the cold too, waht meds are you taking?
Mima..hope you hear about your test soon! Joanne..weather sounds lovely there! Cold here but nice later this week. Still no oven..I want to bake! |
Mima, I have been doing some walking but no swimming. I guess I should check about a membership at the YMCA. I'm sure it will be too expensive for us. Massage sounds good!
Candice, last spring my family doctor put me on Celebrex. It did absolutely nothing to ease the pain. He changed me to Relafin (2 pills at lunchtime). That helped me quite a bit. He also prescribed Vicodin for the really bad days. I'll admit that I've had to break down and take some of those at times. The family doctor called to get me in to a rheumatologist in August. She put me on Flexeril at bedtime right away. That was before the fibromyalgia was finally diagnosed. That has helped tremendously until the cooler weather set in. Today I have ached all over. I need to just go take a hot shower and crawl into bed, but it's only 8:30. I've been posting on one of the WW threads for a few years now. I was browsing around and found this thread and thought I'd introduce myself and meet others with fibro. |
Hi ... I didn't die ... just my computer did. I finally got a new one. Was moving the old one around downstairs ... my son is going to wipe it clean and I'm going to let the kids have it to play their games on ... anyway - I dropped the monitor on my left foot. Went to the doctor yesterday and he made me go have it X rayed. They said today when I called that it didn't show a break but it did show tendonitis in it. JOY! All my toes are black and it's black all down the side, too, and swollen. That's the one I have the ulcer on the ankle ... then I have both kinds of arthritis in the other ankle. Couldn't walk too good before so you can imagine now!
Hi Tammy. Fibromyalgia isn't fun anytime but this time of year is rough. Ice and Aleve is good. A lot of people tell you to put heat on, and it does feel good, but heat expands the muscles. In therapy they will ice the big muscles on your shoulders and freeze them. That gives some immediate relief when they are hurting so bad you think you're going to scream. One trick I learned is to freeze water in little paper cups ... then peel the paper back and rub the ice on the muscle between the neck and shoulder. Getting someone else to do it works best. You can actually alternate between the heat and the ice. Also, if you have someone who can just press on them, that helps, too. My hubby gives me massages sometimes ... even just for a few minutes helps ease the tension out of the muscles in my shoulders. For the tiredness ... of course, I am also anemic ... I drink a Boost High Energy drink with extra protein every morning. That is the only thing that keeps me going. We all do what we have to do. We have to have extra rest and pamper ourselves more than others. We have to eat differently, rest differently and most of the time even dress differently ... more warmly and stay out of drafts and wet weather, etc. Other people don't understand so we have learned to just keep these aspects of our lives to ourselves as best we can. People don't understand what they can't see and people with Fibro look like there's nothing wrong with them!!! But WE know better ... don't we! ;) |
The last thing you needed is to drop something on your foot!!!!!, Meme. Boy am I pooped-stayed up two nights to watch the Red Sox but it was worth it!!!!!! We are going to the World series!!! So glad Auntie cancelled for this am-tomorrow we will walk!!! Have to go to a meeting tonight but it shouldn't be late. Tammy, I take Desyrel at night. The FLexeril makes you groggy when you wake up. Plus Tolectin and Prednisone-low dose for the pain. The important thing is to get a good night's sleep. The Y usually has classes for arthritics-that's what we are-and you don't have to join or matbe only get a Senior membership. Watch out for water aerobics-it's great but don't overdo it-our muscles tend to pull easily. Don't give up-none of us are couch potatoes except Meme-haha-only kidding -we tell her to slow down. And Candice too. And everyone for that matter. Bye Mima
|
Well ... after dropping the monitor on my foot you don't have to tell me to slow down this week! I've been in the bed for the last 3 days and stayed in bed until 10 today. It hurts like the dickens! I'll have Ross and Jenna Saturday and Sunday and we're supposed to take them on a hayride Saturday night. (Our church is doing that and hubby is helping.) I'll have to go along ... but I've already declared I'm NOT climbing up on that wagon!!! The farm where it's at ... the couple are life long friends of ours ... from MI. The woman and I have been friends for almost 40 years. We went to church together in MI - then wound up in the same church in TN 20 years later. Then I left that church for about 15 years and now we're going to church together again. She has had back surgery a couple of times and isn't able to go on the wagon either so we're going to stay at the house until the kids get back, then they're going to have a big bonfire and roast hotdogs and marshmallows.
But, yes - I'm a workaholic. I think most fibromyalia ridden people are ... that's probably one of our problems. We can't relax. My hubby says I can't do one thing at a time ... I have to have at least two or three things going. But right now, I'm cool with just being able to make it from one room to the next. :p |
Meme, thanks for the tips. I know what you mean about people not realizing that I'm feeling as bad as I am. It's frustrating. When I was diagnosed, I took copies of the information to my principal and the superintendent of the school where I teach. I wanted them to be aware that I might be missing more days than I normally do. The school nurse is familiar with fibro., so that helps.
The Flexeril really hasn't been a problem for me in the mornings. Maybe because I've been going to bed at a decent hour. Tonight I had a meeting, so I've only been home about 30 minutes. This is the latest that I've been to bed on a school night in ages! 11;00! |
Hi fellow teacher although I am retired!!! I had a great thing happen-I drove last night and the lights didn't blind me-they were a little bad on the way home but I will take my drops with me next time. All those years I thought cataracts were the cause of my night blindness, but I find out I have dry eye!!!!Yeah for opthmologists!!! That meeting was for my church having a table at a Church Fair-lots of churches get together and have their Fairs on the same day-it's fun and it's ecumenical. Anyone routing for the Cardinals-I am glad the Red Sox are playing them-should be fun. Going to walk in the cold today. Mima
|
Tammy...I take the elavil at bedtime and xanax, and ambien and sometimes I do not sleep! When I wake up in pain I know that I did not sleep well....this week has been bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I try to keep active as best I can but seem to over do a tad to much! I used to be a teacher to but it became overwhelming for me so I quit. I do not take anything for pain at the moment...but need to.........nothing agrees with me, too many side effects. I'm trying to pace myself a bit better too.
Meme.....you shouldn't have kicked the computer so hard! :D (I know you dropped it...) Ha! You just get some rest and get pampered! Mima...I want the Cardinals to win! or is that game over now and the astros won???????missed the end of the news. Joanne are you doing ok...tell us more about the surgery? |
Hey There
Hello Everybody... My expectations of " get up and go" are not working out to my satisfaction.. I did color my hair yesterday. We went to a concert on our local beach with my brother and his wife. My sister Mary was there too. It was OK. I had to come home and make hot tea to get out the chill. It was windy and a little cool that close to the water. So far today ,only one pain pill. I guess that is progress.
Candice.. Not much to tell about this surgery. I had masses on both overies. They had to do a lot of extra to the right. It was sorta stuck to something in there. The Dr. told me ,but, I wasn't exactly with it and can't remember.. I will get the final report from pathology on my next visit.. I don't expect anything to worry about.. You guys stay safe.Meme... Don't drop any more things on your feet . Mima.. I have had dry eyes for years.. They also would leak so bad they finally plugged up a couple tear ducts. They are much better. I only use the drops a couple times or so a day. Welcome Tammy... Hello Happy.. I guess you are getting cold weather now..Where is Ally? I hope You all have a great weekend..I voted today..Joanne |
Well ... GEE ... the way you guys talk - people will get the idea I do these things ON PURPOSE!
|
Not so and I wanted the Cardinals to win and they did. We are just sooooo happy that the Red Sox beat the Yankees. I hope they win the Worls Series but they have already won in my book. Course the Yanks want us beat again. My stress test report came in and I am normal-thank God ! My fibro is acting up big time especially my shoulders!!! Need to exercise. And I am so congested and wheezy. Change of weather. Have a good weekend. Mima 36 days til FL

Question about Fibromyalgia
Hi, everyone. I was diagnosed way back with fibromyalgia and haven't been on any treatment. I suffered some very serious injuries a year after this diagnosis and they sort of took over my life. Now I am as recovered as I will every be from those injuries and it seems like the fibro is getting severe. I have been almost unable to get out of bed because of fatique and a fever for the last three weeks. I have been checked for every infection you can think of but nothing shows up so I am attributing the fever of 102 evening and 100 during the day to the fibro. Anyone elese have this type of sympton. My neck muscles got so tight I had to have intravenous muscle relaxers and pain meds this week. My family doctor is almost no help. Think backwoods, just there to write prescriptions for colds and not much else type of doctor. I need some help. What type of doctor treats fibromyalgia so I can start looking for one. This fatique and pain is slowly driving me crazy. I can't stand how bad it has gotten. Any suggestions?
|
You need to go to a rheumotologist-they know about fibro. Not sure about the fever . People with fibro take some kind of pain med during the day and something to sleep at night. When I first came down with it, it was in my whole body like you and I was working with 2 small children and getting a divorce. It took a long time for it to become manageable and I went through various meds and treatments until I found some that agreed with me. I didn't like the muscle relaxers. Now I take Tolectin 400 mg 2 times a day and Desyrel for nightime. I take a couple of oyher things that were added later. If you can get some kind of therapy-they put me in a tank-or massage, that might help. that is just awful. I pray you get some help. Mima Oh yeah, Go Red Sox
|
Mima..I take it from your yeah Red Socks that they won, I was watching and it was 9 to 9 and then I missed the rest of the game..and the news. I am still rooting for the cards...grew up not too far from St. Louis. What is tolectin?
Joanne, hope it al turns out fine....I bet you are so from all of that poking in there! Spent 3 hours getting the garage ready for winter but still not done, we have DH's side to do yet...got all my pots emptied out and stored finnally. Over 50 pots..........I think I need to cut back! :D |
Wow. Maybe teaching causes fibromyalgia! One of my friends had to quit teaching because of it a few years ago. I am glad that I'm getting close to retirement.
Moonwitch, my family doctor referred me to a rheumatologist. That's how I was finally diagnosed. The family doctor ran tests, and then the other doctor ran even more. The neck muscles aching sounds so familiar. I've not had any problems with fever lately, but last spring before I was diagnosed, I was running a fever every evening for a few weeks. Hey, I'm in Ohio, we are almost neighbors! Candice, I love Garfield. I have quite a few posters and figures in my classroom. |
Tolectin is Tolmetin, a NSAID kind of pill and it works for me. When I was taking a course in the summer, I was carrying extremely heavy things to the class and that's when it got bad. I had a touch of it before. What do you teach, tammy. I was in elementary. Hope you are getting stronger Joanne. We watched the Patriots win yesterday and a little of the game but I went to bed. Then I put the computer on the minute I get up to see the score. Now we only have to win 2 more. But your yard looks gorgeous Candice. I try to plant perrenials so I don't have to take them in. Mima
|
Good morning everyone.
Welcome to both Tammy and Moonwitch. Sorry to have disappeared for so long, but things were not going the best they could have been. Friend passed away, brother had heartattack, then another friend in hospital with cancer, and finally, something happy, my son got married. They had a small wedding, but it was nice. The only problem was the weather. It chose Oct. 16 to SNOW!!!! The roads were not good and it snowed all day. This was early, even for here. Tammy, a Physiatrist is a great Dr. to go to, if you have one near you. He is the most understanding Dr. He is a Dr. of Rehabilitation and deals with people in pain all the time. Several people I know go to this type of Dr. and have had good results. Moonwitch, you need to get to somebody, that is for sure. You probably have CFS along with FM. I belong to another board and we are very lucky. We actually have a woman who was a research scientist and she has been doing all kinds of info hunting on Lymes Disease. She, herself was so bad she was bedridden a lot of the time, but found the right Dr. that deals with Lymes and was diagnosed and started on a proper treatment, and is now so much better. Both her kids have the same thing. So, if you live in an area where Ticks are prominent, you might want to get tested. There is a special Lab that she recommends you send your samples to be tested. I will try find it and post it here. It appears that a lot of people who have Lymes get misdiagnosed with FM and the treatment just doesn't work. Meme - hope your foot is getting a little better each day. Candice - well, at least you are now done with the pots for a few months. Joanne - I have been thinking about you each day, and I hope that this week will find you feeling a whole lot better. Mima - hope you are feeling better as well. My gd came on Saturday and we were playin in bed Sunday morning, when her finger connected with my eyeball. Gosh it hurt. Ended up going to ER to see what the problem was. The eyeball was scrathed and had a little gouge in it, so he gave me Voltaren Drops and an antibiotic drop, and I am wearing a patch for a couple of days. If does feel a little better this morning, thankfully. Everybody have a good day. |
Mima, I teach 2nd grade. I have also taught 5th, 7th, and 8th. This is my 28th year of teaching.
I'm not sure if there is a Physiatrist near here or not. We live in a rural area. I may have to check out what's available in Dayton. Long day. I don't like Mondays. |
Foot's not getting any better. Hurts like the dickens! I still think it's broken.
It's good to see new people coming in. Hi Moonwitch and welcome to our group. I don't run a temp very often but I do now and then and my skin gets hot to the touch quite often. But because my blood is so low, my temp is usually below normal. Have you ever had your sed. rate taken? Mine stays pretty high. I used to teach school, also. I was a substitute teacher for years and years ... almost every day - plus I've taught private piano for almost 30 years now. Before all that, I was a secretary. Sometimes my shoulders and neck will get so tight I think the muscles are actually going to break! I also have several websites. You can check them out at: http://www.memeart.com Hope everyone else gets to feeling better and has a good week. It's supposed to rain here after tomorrow. UGH! Kaylyn will be SEVEN Thursday. I can't believe it!!! (She has about 3 teeth missing.) :p I'm going to try to take her shopping for her BD Friday night (if I can walk). I had Jenna and Ross over the weekend and Jenna has a loose tooth, too ... so guess that's started already. I hate to see her loose her teeth ... she's so pretty! ('Course, Kaylyn's pretty, too!!! ... But then Meme's prejudice ...) ;) |
They are pretty!!! Having my hair cut and frosted today so I will be pretty. But at 66, that's as good as you get. Snow!!!!You have been busy, Anne. Right about lyme disease-I had a friend who was misdiagnosed. It's finally going to be sunny today. I was wheezing yedterday but from going in the attic to get a bunch of stuff out for the flea market at Brad's church. Can't go up there today. Almost done-it's taken me 2 and a half years to get rid of stuff that was his deceased wife's. She was very sick before she died. Anyhow, I went tutoring and my special ed student wouldn't do any work. And he wouldn't sign a contract that he would work. that's after his teacher was called for his homework but he didn't have the books with him, Frustrating. We will see if he's there next week-The director wants so bad to help him but....Anyone find a flu shot. My doc doesn't have any. Mima
|
OK ... hear ye hear ye ... litterally! You all have been wanting to 'hear' me play ... well now's your chance. Go to: http://www.memeart.com/Fear.html and turn your speakers up. I am playing the song, "He's In The Midst" that is playing on that site. It's an electric piano and I'm just chording the left hand - more like an organ... not exactly my 'style' (like ... all over the keyboard) ;) but, it's the best I can do for the 'net. I got soooo mad at my husband. I occasionally use that electric piano to record a song I can't find on the internet already recorded to put on a devotion. So a friend wanted to take it to church and leave it to play and hubby told him he could without asking me first. So now it's at church and I can't use it to record ... which was the only reason I spent $800 on it in the first place. I'm going to tell him if he can't figure some way to get it back here he can just fork out another eight hundred bucks and buy me another one!!!
It's going to rain and my foot is KILLING me!!! |
As soon as I can put volume on, I will listen. I have to stay out of the attic-too much wheezing. I need a gas mask to protect me from the dust. I ahd my hair frosted yesterday-came out good. We are going to Brad's 45th high school reunion so I ahve to look good. Don't want people thinking he married an old lady. I may have to stay up and watch the Red Sox since they won 3 games. I'll see how they are doing at bedtime. Going to Bible Study today and a meeting tonight. What a good life. Brad is still working at the church, finishing up a new oil burner. Bye for now. Mima
|
Hey There
Meme- That was soooo nice..I'll show it to family members who come around..
Mima- It is cooler outside than in the house.Really a nice day! I am sorry that I am not on very much.. I am still not feeling really good..I need some motivation to get going..The Dr. said it would be like this, but, I didn't give it a thought. I thought I would bounce right back.I did catch up my ironing yesterday. Sitting .I went to the mall with my SIL a couple days ago. 3 stores was my limit..I had to sit down and rest in between. I didn't say anything. She was doing a nice thing for me.. She is a great gal.. They are only down for a couple plus more weeks and then back to AZ.I will miss them.. Hope everyone is well...Joanne |
It takes a while, Joanne. Enjoy the rest. Can't hear the music, Meme. Mima Then again, I couldn't hear my grandaughter playing either.
|
I had my volume muted. Beautiful!!!Mima
|
That was nice Meme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No sleep today and yesterday we got the oven fixed so I got it all ceaned up, went for a hair cut ( too short again) and then off shopping and it was rainy and windy the whole time. Now I am very tired......baked some ham and potatoes in my fresh cleaned oven! So hope I can sleep today. Happy..how is the yeast thing and do you have pain with yours too?.......that is so annoying! Sorry for all your stress and bad news but happy for your son..does that mean new grandkids soon? Do you look like a pirate with your patch? ;) Mima..I do not claim the Cardinals now...boy what a disapointment! My hairstylist husband was going to my same doc, the one that said I was depressed (NOT) .....and he told her husband the same thing but added he was an alcoholic..he has fibro due a car accident and lives with chronic pain. he ahs not been back to him and sees someone else! |
Wow!!!!! Stayed up til midnight to watch the game and it was worth it. We fans have waited so long. Every year we say next year!!!! Derek Lowe lives in Fort Myers-course that's the Red Sox winter home also. They sure deserve it-they show such camraderie. And they are always thanking God for their hits. And Curt Schilling prays before he pitches. What a great team they have put together. I am supposed to go meet Auntie and cousin and baby for breakfast. Then we are going to a memorial service at 2. And a financial person is coming at 4. Hope everyone is good. Boy, can you play Meme!!! Going to go and lay on the couch. Mima
|
Well ... thanks to all of you for the compliments ... what in the world would you do if you could REALLY hear me play? That was just an electric piano I recorded for the internet ... kind of tame. If you heard me turn loose on a REAL piano you'd go nuts!!!
UGH! Yeast infections ... Just thinking about it makes me itch. I hate those things!!! And worse still is the medicine you have to use! Just how short IS your hair, Candice? I thought your hair is really long? Did you get it cut short? I can't imagine you with short hair!!! The swelling is going down in my foot - FINALLY! At least I'm walking a little better. Now I have this seasonal drainage junk in my throat. The doc called me in a Z pack yesterday. I'm thinking about calling Nashville and seeing if I can get a Prednisone dose pack for next week. We're supposed to go to Pigeon Forge either next weekend or the next one with friends. I want to feel good for that and frankly, right now, I don't think I could make it. Back to Dixie Stampede (for the fourth time). Our 4 friends haven't been and they want to see the Christmas pageant. We've already seen it twice but dinner is included and it is really neat ... so, I guess We'll go again! Also, the Christmas lights are supposed to be up at Dollywood and I haven't seen those yet. It's thundering ... supposed to rain the rest of the week! The hay ride was cancelled last Sat. - postponed to this Sat. but predicting rain again. We're supposed to take ALL FOUR of the rugrats ... Rain might not be a bad thing! :p http://memeart.tripod.com/cloud4.gif |
|
Cute!!!!!!!! The Red Sox are all we hear about-nice to take a break from the election. We went to a Memorial service yesterday for someone whose son committed suicide, Very sad-and then we had a meeting with a senior financial advisor- good info. Then we went to Friendly's. Yummy. I never made it to Worcester in teh am. was too tired to drive. Anxiety definitely takes over when I am tired, that's good for me to recognize. Had a good night's sleep last night. Grocery shopping today. Hi to all. Mima
|
I am so tired of the election stuff too. We had 3 phone calls yesterday about the different candidates. That was just while we were home! Who knows how many other calls came during the day or night!!
Mima, I agree about the anxiety. I try to get as much rest as I can, but sometimes other things just have to be done. I slept in this morning, and it felt great! |
Meme..hair is just barely touching my shoulders, hasn't been that short in years!
Did some yard work in the wind and rain the other day and boy did I hurt! |
Good morning and Happy halloween. Tammy-did your second graders celebrate? It's exhausting. Went to Brad's 45th reunion last night. The food was awful but they had a wonderful dj and it was fun. Course Brad was the only one I knew. He had fun. I may be blind but we looked younger than most of them. Evan is going to be a Pumpkin today. Hope I get a picture. Mima
|
Mima, at our school we have a Harvest Party instead of Halloween. We had so many not participating because of religious reasons, that we decided to change it. They had a lot of fun.
LOL about only knowing Brad at the reunion. I lucked out at Bob's reunion a few years back. One of my cousins graduated with him, so I knew her and her husband. I also know we looked younger than the others. Could be because I'm 8 years younger than he is! I'm sure Evan was adorable as a pumpkin. Tim dressed as an Arby's worker. Of course, he was on his way to work at Arby's. lol The weekend has been a bit warmer, so I've been in alot less pain. I'm still so tired though. Hope everyone is doing well. |
Good morning-leftover lollipops going to the place where I tutor-had 2 of them yesterday-tootsie pops-going to start on our transition to leave for 4 months-cancellations etc. I'm not in a lot of pain but IBS not good-think it's from osteoporosis med I take every season. Need to get something different, haven't seen Evan or Alison's picture yet. Bye for now Mima
|
I'll be glad when the election is over, too. But I'm afraid we may have to listen to "It wasn't fair," again this time!!! It's going to be tooooo close!
I thought I was done losing weight. I have stayed the same for a month now. But ... I lost another 1/2 pound last weekend - and I thought I ate quite a bit, too. I wasn't really hungry Saturday, but I made up for it yesterday. (Fried chicken and pie) A lot of people don't like to celebrate Halloween ... I always let my kids go trick or treating - I always felt like there is sense and nonsense in all things. Our church had a hay ride this year. I was going to stay around the bonfire with the old and infirm ... ;) But ... I was standing by the wagon (huge wagon full of hay) after my daughter had gotten my four grandchildren aboard and climbed on herself, and hubby came along, picked me up and plopped me right up there. Everybody laughed and said, well, guess you're going, too. (The advantage of having a hubby 6' 4") It was fun. It was a perfect night. Full moon and very warm. The farm was humongous ... there was even a cemetery. They took the wagon by that and some of the 'good' church people had on masks and jumped out to scare the kids. But the kids just laughed at them! (We probably had over 40 altogether) I'm telling you what ... first pair of jeans I've had on in YEARS!!! I bought them at Wal Mart on Friday. Size 14 Lees - and they're a little big in the waist. Felt sooooo good to be able to wear jeans to something like that! I don't know what's causing me to lose ... but I'm happy!!! :D All my life I've had to FIGHT to lose weight ... this has never happened to me before ... just eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full and don't worry about it between. So simple. Last night we went out after church ... what I WANTED was strawberry pie and french fries ... so that's what I got. Instead of getting a meal and eating that and then getting pie, I cut to the chase and got dessert and fries and just had what I was craving. I was full ... and happy. And I eliminated a lot of calories, too! Candice, I'd like to see you with shorter hair. Make a picture and post it! We're going to Pigeon Forge Friday-Sunday with 4 friends. Have a cabin with 3 bedrooms rented. Should be fun. Don't know if I can stand it with them for that long. They're all as crazy as I am. :p |
