Hi Im a newbie with a thyroid disorder and to make a long long story short I had a nodule on my thyroid that caused me to be hyperthyroid, well I had the nodule removed in december and now Im hypothyroid and am on synthroid 50 mcg a day. I had my second child in october of 2003 and I maintained my well and once i had my baby I lost all my pregnancy weight and then some...then i had the nodule removed and I gained ALL of that weight back and plus...I finally took a good hard look in the mirror today and I am totally disgusted with myself. So, I joined 3FC in hopes of forming some bonds with others in my situation and maybe get some kind words of encouragement...Please help Im at my wits end

I can identify with your story. I have been diagnosed as hypo for almost 4 years now. Been on Armour Thyroid. Lost 30 lbs initially of an almost 100 lb weight gain in a little over 9 mths. But, weight loss stalled. I have done Atkins 2 mths and gained 10 lbs, Body for Life - Lost 5 lbs in 6 mths, carb addicts diet. All without success. I have always exercised 3-5 days a week for about 45 min each time until recently I have given up a little out of frustration. I need to get back into it with motivation of just being healthy, even if the scale does not move. I am also being tested for PCOS, Cushings, and other metabolic disorders. I wish you all the luck in the world If you hit on something good, let me know. Take care.
Eichic - Hey sorry I didn't see this post sooner lol. I've been on South Beach since May 1st and also started the weight loss prescription medication Meridia on the same day, and I've lost 16 lbs so far!! I do walk away the pounds 2 miles a day at least 6 days a week. It is really working for me!! It may be something that you want to discuss with your doctor If you want to buddy up just let me know!! I understand the frustration you are feeling I'm here for ya!!
I was diagnosed hypo a couple years ago. I chose the regular ediets plan of weight loss and was successful in losing 40 pounds. I have not followed the plan for a little while now and have slowly gained back 6 or 7 pounds.
Wow I posted this awhile ago and still manage to get replies
Lucy Welcome to 3FC!!
I am now on South Beach Diet and I love it!! I also exercise almost everyday, and take my meds like I'm supposed to. I've already lost 28 lbs so far and very excited for my next weigh in
HI! My name is Heidi and I am 30 years old. Just had my first child in Oct. 2003 and was diagnosed with Graves disease a few weeks ago. My endo recommended Radioactive Iodine treatment, which I did last week. He put me on Beta Blockers for a month, I am assuming to prevent "Thyroid Storm" and said I cant do back to the gym until I see him in 6 weeks (sept. 9) and he'll let me know then. He said I could walk though, but at a slow pace (cant work up the heart too much). Anyhoo...my little bundle of joy caused me to gain quite a bit of weight during pregnancy (he was 9 lbs. and 23 inches long!) and I topped out at 229 lbs right befor giving birth. I've lost 60 lbs. thus far but still need to lose about 30 more. My problem is that I was doing very well at the gym, 4 days a week for an hour and walking 12 - 16 miles per week. I have been using Calorie King for my diet diary and keep my calories to about 1400/day. The weight has not come off easily, quite stubbornly actually (which I thought that those with Hyperthyroidism lost weight easily??). I guess I am between being Hyper and Hypo right now and I am worried about putting on enormous amount of weight when I go full blown Hypo (which I am assuming will be within a year). Any advice?
Hey heidi I replied to your other post on the thyroid thread I had my second child on October 13th when was your little one born? One thing that my doctor has done for me since my weight loss is painfully slow without meds. I take meridia and phentermine 2 months meridia and then 2 months phentermine til I hit about 170 then I'm going off the weight loss meds and attempting the last pounds on my own. One reason my doc put me on meds was because I also have a lung disease and its important for me to lose weight so I'm closely monitored. When I had the "bad" part of my thyroid removed I gained weight rather quickly even though I had gained some because I was hyperthyroid as well! I gained being hyper because I was so tired all of the time and spent a lot of time sleeping unfortunately one of the side effects of thyroid disease.
LOL I just noticed that my posts today have been rather random in their direction I apologize for this as I've only maybe gotten 6 hours of sleep in the last 2 or 3 days.
I also want to invite you to join the stay at home moms thread in the support group forum we always like to have new people join us there are 3 of us there with thyroid disorders too
Michelle! Oh my goodness...Sam was born October 13th too! He was born at 7:29pm....After 11 hours and 59 minutes of labor (was induced)
I would love to join the stay at home mom's group! Woohoo! This has made my day. Where do I find it?
So you are NOT taking thyroid meds? I think I had better, I'm almost 31 and DESPERATELY want to have 1 to 2 (maybe 3 ) more kiddos, but I fear getting pregnant after 35 with all the stuff ya hear about. I think thyroid meds would be the fastest way to get my thyroid ready for pregnancy...actually, come to think of it...I believe the Radiation is destroying my thyroid completely so I dont have a choice for the meds.
OKay, I am rambling here...seem to be doing a lot of that lately!
No no I definately take thyroid meds I take synthetic T4 (synthroid 50 mcg a day) and synthetic T3 (cytomel 50 mcg a day) I am not functional without thyroid meds I cant even get out of bed when I don't take them and i get sick a lot too when levels are out of whack. My doctor removed the goiter on my thyroid and they thought that the rest of my thyroid would start producing hormone again but it didn't produce what my body needed so I got put on meds and we're still trying to regulate.

Oh yeah I forgot how funny that our babies were born the same day Teagan was born at 11:42 pm after 23.25 hours of labor....I was induced and as soon as they gave me the pitocin at exactly midnight my contractions started lol. they broke my water still didn't progress labor was hard, they couldnt get the babys heart on the monitor so attached one to her head internally by 10 pm I hadn't progressed and Teags heartrate was falling during contractions. I had an emergency csection and it turned out the cord was wrapped around her neck so thank god they didn't wait any longer
I think thats neat that our little ones have the same birthday!! We can plan first bday parties together!!!
Oh wow, I am so sorry you had such a tough labor. I had 2 hours of complete **** and finally had to get an epidural at 3 cm...I am such a wuss! Actually, they induced me with cytotec, which I guess can stimulate harder than pitocin...My contractions were going well above 220 and only coming back down to 200 or so...SO, I didnt get any recouperation time in between contractions. But here I am anxious to do it again! I will pop onto the mom's group...I guess I should just introduce myself? How long have all you gals been buddies?
Oh yeah I know well how cytotec works!! My first pregnancy was induced with cytotec and pitocin simultaneously! I still had 26 hours of horrible labor with her!! Thank god they didn't use the cytotec the second time around I was actually able to breathe through the contractions once my intrathecal wore off. I can't wait to talk to you more!!
I have been a member since April of this year and we are pretty close, the other sahm's are awesome very supportive and witty women!! I love them, I couldn't do this journey without them. I'm so glad you've joined it will be great to have you.
