  • Hi everybody...Hope all are feeling good today.

Silk (Sharon...like the name)....sorry about your skin disease...seems like you can't win, for losing....as the saying goes. You've got to be strong, girl. Just hang in there! I found out a long time ago...there's nothing we can do about some things...so, gotta learn to live with them. Not always easy though..huh?! I do hope you're feeling better.
Talking about the back spasms...I usually don't have them unless I over do, or try to strain my back. (which I know better...but do anyway, sometimes!) I'm impatient....so if I want something done & no one else will, at the moment....here I go!

Joanne....Hope you're feeling well today. My desire was to become a nurse. We didn't have the money for me to go to college. I really didn't get encouraged at home for goals, either. (long story) I do, still, love to read medical books, & procedures...about illnesses, etc. The computer has made it easier, now. My drs have learned through the yrs that I know a lot about what they're talking about, & are careful what they say to me about myself!

Grasshopper...tell us all about your first day!

    I'll check in later......

  • Hi All!

Hmmm, my first day? Well, I got so wound up about it that I didn't sleep...maybe got an hour if I'm lucky. The job is pretty easy...just sitting in front of a computer and checking stuff. The people seem nice but there isn't much chit chat. I get my meals half price so I've been eating salad a lot. (I hate cutting all that up!)

Only bad part is that my back is really bugging me after work. Yesteday I came home, took some meds, and pretty much went to sleep. Today, I wore different shoes and took a short walk on my break...thought that would help. Back is stiff right now. I'm going to call for a physical therepy appointment. Hope to schedule it right after work and that might help. I don't want to call out a lot because I'd like to get other assignments once this job is done. I had them split up my days off so at least I'll have a day to recover between days. Guess we'll have to play it by ear.

Silk, sorry to hear about your skin problem. Did the doc tell you where it came from? Or what caused it? I'll keep you in my prayers.

I've got Dr Phil's book and I tried to watch his show. I finish work right when it starts. Asked one of my brothers to tape it for me but he didn't . Was ready to boot him in the behind for that....worst was my back hurt so bad I wouldn't have been able to raise my leg. Now you KNOW my back was bad if I couldn't do that! And yes, Silk, it would be awesome if the weight just fell off....

Angel where do you get all your cute pics? Love them! Then again, don't tell me...probably crash the computer. Had to move 9 times today at work...computer kept crashing. The tech that came to fix it each time mentioned she was visiting Europe and going to Lourdes. Told her to bring back some of the holy water for the computer!

If you don't see me post everyday it's because I've come home and crashed. I'll pop back in though

Hope everyone has a great week!

    Deb
  • Hi everyone!

Angel, you are such a delight to talk to, you always make me feel better. I hope you are doing well.

Grasshopper - it is very stressful when you start a new job and itis hard on the back when you have to sit all day. I hope you can manage it and try not to get discouraged.

They didn't say what caused my skin problem, just indicated that it was my age. boy did that make me feel good.

Dr. Phil's show was mainly about the people that are going to participate on his show for the next ten months to you didn't miss to much.

I went to my sons for supper, I just love their little guy - Benny he is just so full of energy and just makes me feel good to watch him play. It makes me thankful that I have four wonderful, healthy, beautiful grandchildren.

Take care everyone, Grasshopper hand in there.

    Sharon
  • Hi
Grasshopper - I sure know how you feel with your back and all. I have absolutely NO suggestions as nothing I did seemed to help. Just make sure and get plenty of rest on your days off. I wish you the best.

Silk - glad the cortisone shot helped. Now, if they can just clear up the skin. I have NEVER had acne and all of a sudden I have started to get some skin problems. I was to the dermatologist a couple of weeks ago and it is yeast related., caused by cortisone. It weakens the immune system and then the yeast take over and away we go. I am now on a 4 week treatment of Diflucan. Also, I have a fungal infection in my ear since last Christmas. Fighting with that as well. Have to get my ear cleaned out every 3-4 weeks. Now, I am putting Nystatin powder mixed with water into the ear twice a day. Sure hope this works.

Angel - Hope you are keeping well. It's nice to work at a job you enjoy.

Hi Joanne. good luck on that South Beach Diet.

I started back on Atkins last week and was down 5 pounds. It is very difficult to lose weight when your body has a systemic yeast infection. It holds on to every ounce of fluid and won't let it go. Maybe this time.

Everyone have a great day tomorrow.
  • Hello, again.......Happy HUMPDAY!!

Well.........I tried to cheer everybody up.

    Happy Canuk....Congrats on your weightloss!

Yes, it is nice to work at the TV station. I only do volunteer work 3 days a week. (normally) Of course, there are weeks, I'm needed more. It's really interesting.....& although I work as the secretary...I'm also trained in all of it...at least a little...so if I need to step in, I can. It gets me out of the house.

Silk....I'm glad you are better. I enjoy posting to all of you...& receiving, as well. Just wish I had a cure for everyone's problems. I can pray, though, & I do. I feel like the Lord has given all of you to me to help me...& hopefully to be a help in return.

Grasshopper....I also, found working every other day helps. Hope your back gets better soon.

Hello to Joanne...hope all is well with you today. I imagine you're out walking about now.

    I'll check in later...have a good day!

  • Hey There
Grasshopper- It might be the position you are sitting in at the computer that makes your back hurt more. Also tension with the new job. When you get home if you can stretch out on the floor with a pillow under the knees it might help. Walking strenghtens the back ...
Silk- AGE is not a good answer for a skin problem.. I would ask them if they couldn't push me off with a better answer to please recommend a Dr. who could give a more proffesional answer.Dr.'s are not GOD they just think they are.
Angel- I walk in the evening after supper. It is still to hot here in Fl. to go earlier. I don't function too well for early morning.
Happy- I wondered where you were.I guess it is cooler up there now... This eating plan is not as restrictive as Adkins. From what I have read so far in the book it is supposed to be better for our health.I am still counting the points and I am eating less. I am walking almost every day..If my knee bothers me too much I will have to cut back..A Cardio.Dr. wrote and tested it himself...
    Bye All...Joanne
  • Hi all!

It sounds like you all are very busy. I have not worked since the end of December 2001 as I have had too many health problems and have been on long term disability.

I sometimes fear life is passing me by as I am not a very active or involved person. Since I have had the cortizone my back feels much better and I am going out for short walks and trying to go a little further every day.

Good luck to all of you on your diets or should I say life changing plans. I have lost a little but not enough that anyone would notice.

Hurricane Isabel looks like she might do a lot of damage, I pray that you are all safe and sound.

    Take care
    Silk - sharon
  • Hey There
If anyone is interested there is a good explanation on the tops site here on Fat Chicks. My sister is Eleni and she has put this on for anyone interested in joining tops..It will tell you a lot about TOPS.
Silk - Glad to hear the injections have helped your back..Keep up the good work. Remember , small amounts of weight loss add up to big losses. If you can keep up the walking. Make yourself a schedule and try and increase at little everyday. Some years ago I put up a calender I wrote down each day how far and long I walked. I put on it my weight at the beginning of each week. Facing each day starting with my own weigh in in the am helped to keep me on tract.I have been retired over 10 years. Health problems were part of the reason. You are not alone and you still have a lot you can look forward to. Find your interests and expand them. Join a support group like TOPS there are a lot of women there for you.
The storm passed us by . My G/son is in the navy. He is on the U.S.Harry S. Truman. Out of Norfolk. His ship was supposed to be in dry dock but they probably took it out to sea with the rest. He has a new truck. His dad told him to put it in long term parking. I hope it is safe. He is so proud of that truck.
    Bye for now...Joanne
  • Hi All,

Waiting for Isabel to make an appearance. Probably come in tonight while I'm trying to sleep. As long as we don't flood I don't mind. Love a good storm every now and then....then again, who knows what will be coming my way tonight. Tide is pretty high at all the beaches.

Back is doing so so. You guys are right about moving around during the day and shifting position. I'm trying to walk around the hospital during half of my lunch break. Not too far but at least it clears out my mind.

I've been thinking about going to a chiropractor. Don't want to sound gross but I feel like my back needs to be cracked. Never been to one though....Mom had bad experiences with chiropractors so I'm a little leary. Even thinking about acupuncture. We'll have to see.

I agree with Joanne, Silk, you need to consult another doc. Age is not a good answer. Have you tried taking cranberry pills? I had a yeast problem and taking those helped control it. Also helps with a UTI. You sound a little down about not working..don't be. Consider taking care of yourself a full time job.

I've been doing pretty well on the diet this week. Think I'm down at least 3lbs but I'm not counting anything until my official weigh in on monday. Don't want to haunt the scale. I think work and getting out of the house helps.

Joanne...still want to make a TOPS meeting. Just wish they had one on my day off . But I'll get there soon

Hope everyone is safe and dry!

    Deb
  • Hello
Hope you are all keeping well.

Grasshopper - glad you are moving around. It does help some. Chiropractic has come along ways in the past few years. I would NOT be walking if it wasn't for a chiro. I did learn of the Upper Cervical Chiro. (no manipulation) and started with that treatment a couple of years ago. Best thing I ever did. The treatment is so gentle you don't even know you are having it. My lower back pain, due to back surgery, facet joint disease and arthritis, is so much better, I hardly ever have to take meds. Also, a lot of my FM symptoms have disappears. If you want to, you can read about it at www.nucca.org

Silk - I hope you make out ok at the hospital. That South Beach Diet looks kind of interesting. I have done Atkins before and it worked pretty good. Just need to get back on it.

Hi Angel and Joanne. Hope you two are keeping well.

  • Hi everybody....

Yep, I aslo, riecved taht ecrad in the emial, yerestady! And, it is amzanig!

Silk...Most Chiropractors use an instrument now, that they go over the tender spots with. I understand, it's like a vibration, you feel. Doesn't hurt at all. My friend had it done, & also my husband. They both said they didn't think it could help, because it didn't hurt, or anything. The next day, though, they were pretty sore! After a couple of treatments, they were doing great. They both were down pretty bad. Husband pulled back at work. Then one day, friend reached behind the pc & then, suddenly couldn't move. Her husband & I had to push her out to the car in a chair with rollers! She came back walking slowly...in 2 days...was almost normal!

    Grasshopper...stay safe in the storm.

Hope all have a good day!

  • Hey There
I lost 3 1/4 lbs this week and was only on the South Beach Diet(eating plan I like to say) for 4 days... I think it is really more healthy than adkins. You don't get as much saturated fat on this one. Better for heart health.
Grasshopper - If you decide to go to a chriopractor check him out first..There are some bad ones out there. My son had a bad experience with one. Me, I would never go to one. At one time I was told AMA did not indorse them.Hope you can find a TOPS close by.. Go to TOPS.org and you may be able to find out where one is...You won't regret it..I just love going to the meetings and look forward to them every week.
Happy ,Pretty good. I had to laugh at the wording. I spell badly sometimes and often have to look up a word in order to spell right.
Angel- Silk- The storm passed Fl. by. We kept watching and waiting for it to make the turn. Sorry it hit so many and sure do hope not too much damage was done. I haven't seen tv today so I will have to take a look later...I am not much of a TV viewer.. My hubby usually has the control in his hand.
    Bye for now....Joanne
  • Hi all, congratulations on your weight loss. I am feeling much better today and am looking forward to the weekend.

I am keeping Benny - the two year old for a couple of hours tonight while his parents go out for supper. I love him to death but two hours will be plenty.

It sounds like we are all in the same boat physically and trying to loose weight. Keep up the good work.

    I will post later.

    Take care
    Silk
  • Hi All,

Canuck, thanks for that link! Unfortunately, none of them are close by...guess I'll have to do some research. You're right Joanne, there are some bad ones out there. Hopefully, working in a hospital I might hear who is good through word of mouth. Still leary about it.

Back seems to be doing a little better as far as work. Watch, I probably just jinxed myself! Seriously though, I'm making an effort to move around and walk "the long way" whenever I can. The cafe there is great....egg whites for breakfast, salad for lunch. Okay, so some wouldn't be a thrilled as me...just easier to stay on a diet when the good food it right there and someone else cooks it. Easier to make better choices.

Noticed something new today...my ankles are swelling. Not cool. Anyone know what causes this? I don't eat a lot of salt so it can't be that. Just has me worried. Probably should check with the doc. Going to look it up on webMD.

The hurricane pretty much passed us by...thank God. Course with all the hoopla the media made about it I wonder if anyone will pay attention the next time. Some were getting almost Book Of Revelations here.....talked about evacuating Long Island. Geez.

Hmmm, aren't I chatty today? Great job on the weight loss Joanne! Sounds like you'll have fun with Benny, Silk. I love kids. And just think! You can give him back at the end of the night! Isn't that the definition of grandparent? You can spoil them rotten and give them back

Well, hope this finds everyone well and upright . Have a great weekend!

    Deb
