Fibromyalgia #94

Hi guys-Done with working and not sure I should take that job again-I had an IBS attack yesterday-course there were PUBLIC restrooms. And I had to walk around a lot or sit in uncomfortable chairs. Here I am whining. At least it ws raining so I was inside anyways. Nicer today and I have to weigh in -did not do well. That was a great joke , Anne. I hope the snow goes fast-how depressing!Gail, I sold my house right after my kids graduated from college-they were not happy because they had to move out but I couldn't take care of it anymore. Now I have a house again because I remarried-you never know!!!And my son bought his own house which was a good investment, Bye for now Mima-I am so tired!!!

Joanne D 05-09-2003 09:38 AM

Hey There

Mima- I can relate to IBS attacks.. I have to be careful, which I am not as often as I should, or I am stuck to the restrooms too.
I weighed in last night and was lucky to get a turtle. We haven't had a meeting in 3 weeks and everyone agreed that was too long. I have 12 lbs to lose to get to the goal weight that the Doctor set for me. I hope I can make it. It is really hard for me. I am so addicted to some baggy junk food. My fault.
I hope you will be feeling better soon.
I am going to Norfolk to see my G/son arrive on the Truman in just over a week ,I think. If anyone has ever seen one of those ships pull up to the dock, they will say how awesome a sight it is. I was very impressed the last time I went there. It will put a lump in your throat every time. All those sailors maning the rails.
Got to get busy...Joanne

Mima 05-10-2003 06:19 AM

I had to log in because I deleted all my cookies yesterday!I have been having trouble with my computer so I called Sam's-I have a warranty with them-and he told me to do a virus scan-seems I have 16 files affected by 2 viruses. Not sure that is the reason why my computer acts up but I am going tyo buy a virus protection system. And it will clean them up. He sid there ws no system on my computer. strange ! Started to paint the woodwork in the kitchen so I can get my walllpaper on-But today I hav eto clean and go shopping for mother's ady. I made the mistake saying I didn't want to go out biut my son is going to put together my swing! That we got for Christmas from my other son. Today is the interment at the cemetery for the ashes-glad when that's over-seems Brad has not been himself this week. Getting upset about things .Have a great Mother's Day everyone. mima

Joanne D 05-10-2003 07:13 PM

Hey There

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY
I hope everyone has a Great Day .
I will stay quiet. My son will cook out. All I'll do is make a salad.
I did pretty good with my eating till supper tonight. I ate 2 pieces of pizza and some wings. I seldon do that. But what the heck.
I will be good next week and hope to lose a pound by thrusday.
Bye all stay well...Joanne

Candicej 05-11-2003 05:34 AM

Well..we made it though 3 days of severe weather! Tonight we spent two hours in the basement waiting for it to pass and since it is still dark out we do not know if we have any damage...some places not to far from here were flattened (so the news said).

DS was driving home in all this and yelled at us cause we had the outside door locked and he couldn't get in! It was kinda funny..he was drenched...looked like a wet puppy! I hate these storms...too many tonados this season!

Friday I went to the small local nursery and bought $200.00 worth of bedding plants. Now to get it all in and not have it destroyed by storms! It is all stored in the gargage and the gargare is still standing..........Need to get it in within the next week or so.

Have any of you heard of these candy bars?

Candicej 05-11-2003 05:38 AM

Raven..so you are saying you have never been without kids at home? I'm getting used to my son being here and he is a good kid too..but we just got used to being alone(4 years and now he is back but leaving in August for school.) My older son does still not have a job so he could be moving back!

Mima 05-11-2003 06:45 AM

Happy Mother's day cyberfriends!!!I didn't realize you were getting the tornadoes Candice. Glad you are ok. We get tornado warnings sometimes-had a big one in 53 when I was 14. Spent last night getting rid of my viruses and installing a program to protect. Couldn't fix 8 of the files but did fix 16 of them . Amazing technology. Kids are coming over today-son is going to put together lawn swing, daughter is bringing some food. someone will cook steaks that i am marinating. Hubby isn't sure of his role.Had the cemetery service and then Brads brother and his wife came over-later we went out for the big Chinese buffet, I need not say more.Have a great day everyone. Mima

Ally0306 05-11-2003 02:17 PM

Happy Mother's Day all.
I have a flat tire, that is all it takes to get me to cry. I HATE car problems. That is why I bought a newer car in August and sold my old one to my son.
My sons do not understand why I get so upset. I think it is because car stuff is totally out of my realm and it entails going into a man's world and relying on them to help me. At the car dealorship they will make me wait for hours, then tell me it will cost over $100 to fix. It always does. Also this week, the air conditioning only works on the driver's side. On the passenger side it is hot air. I was going to wait a while on that.
This is going to send me right to the sugar. My kids just bought me candy.

Raven454 05-11-2003 10:32 PM

Happy Mother's Day ladies!! :D

Hope you all enjoyed a day of pampering. Was a WINDY day here, but my kids, my mom and I all went out to dinner. Had a nice time.
No Candice, I have yet to live without any kids at home, but the time is coming this year. I'm sure I'll enjoy the quiet times again, but I think I'll miss them too. As it is now, between working and and going out every night with friends, they really aren't home much except to sleep and occasionally have dinner with us.
Hope the weather clears up and I can get out and walk tomorrow. I missed today because of the rain.
Take care,

Gail

Mima 05-12-2003 03:02 PM

hi guys-next year I am going out to eat-it was very busy but nice-staek was tough, I got a nice surprise in the morning wken I tries on one of my new dresses and it fit and actually did not make me look fat. Progress-son was trying to put tgether the new swing -lots of broken and missing parts!!Called the company so I have to get off so they can return my call.Too bad we got it in Dec-didn't open it til yesterday. They were nice. Hope your car got fixed easily Ally. Do you have triple A? Course they don't pay for things. Bye for now Mima

MemeToo 05-13-2003 12:28 AM

Glad to hear everyone had a nice Mother's Day. I went out to eat with my kids. Then came home and took a nap. Nice day! I got four hanging pots of flowers (I like to hang them on my front porch) and seasonal tickets to the Cumberland Playhouse - for six seats! That means we get to go to 3 plays! And Cats is playing this summer.

I'm in the middle of a flare up...all the storms and tornados I guess. Tennessee has really taken a beating over the last few weeks. The girls who rent our mobile home next to us have been over here three nights in the last couple of weeks and stayed in our basement. I've had to back off the gold pills. They were making me so sick. And now the arthritis pain is coming back big time. Between that and the weather it hurts to move. I told hubby tonight that I would like to just go to bed and stay there for a couple of weeks ...not have to move. So... he said you'll just have to make the time and do it! I just sat there a looked at him... I said how am I supposed to do that. Tomorrow I'll have Kaylyn all day plus I have 5 piano students. Wednesday you told the preacher we'd do refreshments at church so I have to go to Cookeville and pick up something plus I have a mystery shop I have to do at a bank then I have to go to church and SERVE the refreshments you promised to bring. Then Thursday I have Kaylyn again... I think I got my point across. I go back to the Rheumatologist a week from tomorrow. Maybe he will have some magical potion that will transport me to instant wellness overnight.

Gotta go take a shower and go to bed. We're getting more rain Wednesday and Thursday. Oh Joy!

Subject: 19 Good Things About CFS/FMS

Nineteen Good Things About CFS/FMS

What's so wonderful about CFS/FMS? Not much, you probably think.
But there's a lot of stuff going on in my life that I'd never even
dreamed of BC (before CFS/FMS). Let me tell you about some of these
dubious joys.

GOOD THING NUMBER 1: I have entered several contests I have a good
chance of winning, e.g. Cognitive Dysfunction Poster Child. First
prize is a 5-year membership in Medicine of the Month Club. I don't
remember what second prize is, which increases my chances of winning.

GOOD THING NUMBER 2: I have saved money on books. Cognitive
dysfunction allows me to read the very same book I read last week
without recalling the ending. (After a month or two, the title
doesn't even sound familiar.)

GOOD THING NUMBER 3: I am a cheap date. I don't drink alcohol or
eat fancy desserts, having eliminated sugar from my diet. Such a
deal!

GOOD THING NUMBER 4: I have found myself to be precocious. Elderly
people complain of symptoms I've had for many years: short-term
memory impairment, aches and pains, energy depletion, and difficulty
getting around, to name a few.

GOOD THING NUMBER 5: I can fool people. I can be sick without even
looking sick. Ha, ha, joke's on them.

GOOD THING NUMBER 6: A relatively good day feels wonderful.
"Civilians" have to have a much more wonderful day to think
it's wonderful.

GOOD THING NUMBER 7: I've made new friends! I am on a first-name
basis with my doctors, their staffs, several pharmacists, and even my
insurance company's claims representatives.

GOOD THING NUMBER 8: I have something legitimate to complain about.
You know those people who "have it all" and complain
anyway? I have no respect for them; I have a genuine problem, which
is even acknowledged now by the popular press and progressive members
of the medical community.

GOOD THING NUMBER 9: When asked at the doctor's office if I've met
my deductible for the year, I can say "Yes!" even if it's
only mid-January.

GOOD THING NUMBER 10: I've been studying chronic illness in great
depth since I got it (or it got me) back in late 1984. Never have I
been such an expert on anything.

GOOD THING NUMBER 11: I don't have to make the bed any more because
chances are I'll be back in it before long.

GOOD THING NUMBER 12: I am easy to find. Although I sometimes
venture as far as an office or store, I'm generally at home.

GOOD THING NUMBER 13: Let's skip 13. I'm not superstitious, but you
can't be too careful these days.

GOOD THING NUMBER 14: No batteries, assembly, or special equipment
are required. Chronic illness just runs on its own.

GOOD THING NUMBER 15: I have actually heard a few doctors say,
"I don't know." This has not been known to occur among
members of the general population.

GOOD THING NUMBER 16: I have acquired quite a lounging/sleeping
wardrobe, which can be described as funky yet tasteless. But it's so
comfy.

GOOD THING NUMBER 17: I have weeded out my friend list, which now
contains only those who are understanding and caring.

GOOD THING NUMBER 18: Dysequilibrium saves money on amusement park
admissions. The same sensations can be produced virtually anywhere
at no cost.

GOOD THING NUMBER 19: Short-term memory deficit allows me to hide my
own Easter eggs.

I can only think of nineteen good things about CFS/FMS so far. So
what? -- David Letterman can only think of ten of anything, and I'll
bet he doesn't write his own lists. If nineteen isn't enough for
you, maybe you should consider getting some other disease with better
fringe benefits. :D:):D:):D:)

Candicej 05-13-2003 12:48 AM

News from my area (central Illinois) ...The news said it was a long track F3 tonado, which means it stayed on the ground for 19 miles straight and was 3/4 of a mile wide at 200 - 250 miles per hr. Everyone had good warning so their are no fatalities but those poor people who lost everything and have no insurance..just so sad! We had no damage this time around, thank the Lord! (oh it was about 20 miles from here) and there were 5 tonados total in 2 hours. Several p;laces are still without power, including my DH's work and MIL house..glad she is not staying here!

......I bought impatients(coral), begonias( pink dark leaf), bacopa, vinca vine, ivy, marigolds (big yellow ones for my garden), ageratem (blue), salvia(red), vinca(gape cooler), Butterfly plant (looks like yellow daises), Samantha Lantana (yellow with varigated leaves), nemesia (little purple flowers), Licorice plant , verbinias and two hanging baskets (bright pink gerainiums and new guinia impatients. (excuse the spelling of the flowers!) I already have my pansies potted. Oh picked up 8 tomatoe plants too but too wet here to put anything in yet and more rain coming this week. I hear ya screaming Meme!

ally..I know what you mean about the cars and being a man thing! I hate dealing with men on anything..they think we are so stupid ;) I bought some after Easter hersheys chocolate bunnies on sale for you..I am eating them so you are probably safe from them! I also made brownies tonight................Hum.....yesterday I had no appetite and ate way below pts.

Mima..sounds like you had a ncie day..what kind of steaks? Yummy!

Today was cleaning day and we did the bathroom from head to toe!:) So of course I am hurting!

Mima 05-13-2003 05:51 AM

I am glad you are safe Candice-that posting was really funny.I bought thwe wrong kind of steak and even though I marinated it for 24 hours, it was still tough. Went for a nice massage yesterday-even fell asleep. Last night we went through some pictures that brda;s sister had put together. His younger brother didn't come -he is having a hard time and he is the executor of the estate and not moving very fast to sell the house. Actually he wants to rent it but he can't make that decision by himself. We got some hopefully good news yesterday-former girlfriend wants brad to sign off on her house-he has a lien against it cuz she owes him money-and he won't sign unless she gives us the money.I hope he doesn't weaken cuz it would be nice and it's only fair/I am going to paint today and try to do some more poly....but not too much. only bought pansies so far-I saved my geraniums and they are starting to bloom inside. They will be pretty with the light gray house and window boxes. like you Candice, I love plants but need more perannuals SP? aND IT'S COLD HERE TIL jUNE SO i DON'T DARE PUT ANYTHING OUT. Caps locked. Hope you feel better Meme. Doc is going to try me on new med in fall. everything affects my stomache. Bye for now Mima

MemeToo 05-13-2003 09:35 AM

Mima...everything affects my stomach, too. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I got off all the meds except the Inderal (can't do without that...my heart beats too fast). Actually...I can't do without the Premerin either and I wouldn't want to do without the small amount of Buspar I take each morning...I'd be having a migraine every day. All the NSAID type arthritis and fibro drugs affect my stomach and I'd rather just have the arthritis and fibro pain - at least you can take some pain medication and half way function. With the stomach thing going on you never know when it's going to hit you. I was in Wal Mart once with a cart half full of groceries and just doubled over in pain. We had to just leave everything there and go home. And that was a shame because that one was actually helping me...it was Celebrex. The Relafen broke me out...we were at a Valentines Couples Garden Dinner and I started itching. I could actually FEEL the bumps through the material of my pant suit. I went to the ladies room and sure enough, there were little, fine red bumps all over my legs. I thought I had the measles or something at first. Orudis caused my nose and throat to swell up so bad I nearly smothered. The Naproxen in the strength the doctors give hurts my stomach so bad I can't take it but I can take it in the coated Aleve by taking one every 3 or 4 hours and it helps...I take one with a Darvocet and then take another one about 3 or 4 hrs. later. I've tried Daypro, Clinoril and several others but they all hurt my stomach. I'm tired of trying new drugs and about ready to give up and say you win...I'm down and I just can't get back up and fight this time!

Happy Canuk 05-13-2003 05:57 PM

Hi

Put me on the list with stomach problems and meds. Just can't seem to handle them. Orudis did a real number on my stomach and from there just can't tolerate anything. Ibroprofen is the first one I ever took, years and years and years ago and I had the stomach problem with it as well, but it was for a bursitis problem and was not needed for long. I don't know if it is the tylenol extra strength or the Bextra or the combination of both, but boy I sure had to be close to the "throne".

I am in the throws of a flare and I am hurting. This has been going on for almost 2 weeks and I thought it was better on Sunday, but I guess that was my Mother's Day present, because it is back full force today. It sure takes a long time to settle everything down once it gets inflamed. I know they say FM is not an inflammation problem, but I don't think I believe that - why give us an anti-inflammatorie if it isn't! The weather has been fantastic since Friday - sunny and warm. We may have snow this weekend as it is usually around somewhere for the long weekend. It is the 'kickoff' weekend for campers and lakers. Everybody just knows to be prepared. Rain or snow is a given:lol:

I hope you got your car fixed without too much hassle Alley. I hate when something happens to my car, because I know NOTHING about them at all, except put in the key, put it in drive and go:lol:

Hope you are all well. Meme, remember, you are only as busy as you want to be!!! Try to be kinder to yourself.

Joanne D 05-13-2003 08:02 PM

Hey There

Hello Girls- I finally got to the point of refusing to take anything that will flare up my stomach. I can deal with the arthritis but not the ulcers that flare up from the medications. I have had both for a long time.
It is hot in Florida now. It will be this way till about November. We are again needing rain in central west Fl. I have not walked as I should. I just can't seem to get motivated to do it. I may have to look for someone to walk with to get me back in the habit. The only problem is their schedules and mine are hard to plan at times.
Happy -get to feeling better. Are you a camper? My daughter and her hubby have been doing a lot of that this past year.
I am a cabin or apt. camper. I tried one time to go in a R.V. with my brother ,his wife and my sister and her friend. NEVER AGAIN!There were just too many people trying to sleep. Maybe I would go if it was just my brother and his wife.
I agree about cars..put the key in and go.
Bye you all...Joanne

anagram 05-13-2003 09:02 PM

Joanne, I'm so glad you'll soon get to see your grandson - at least one worry will be a little less.

Put me down for people who've felt sore and achy this week - all this rain and stormy weather, etc. So glad you fared well, Candice. So many people out there who have so much to recover from right now, I feel I shouldn't complain. We're supposed to have sun tomorrow - first and only day this week and I'm sure that's a big part of my problems right now.

I'm on Mobic right now and take a stomach pill (Protonix) with it. Still having some problems but didn't for a good while. (Have also tried many and had problems, either sooner or later, rashes, diarrhea, etc.) I think partly it's been my eating lately. My train derailed the last few days and am hoping to get it back on the track tomorrow. But tomorrow dh is to get the port out of his neck. I'm on pins/needles afraid something else will come up. He's been so good and I don't want to see him disappointed again.

We're going to be in the market for a car as well. I drive one that's only seven years old but has over 100,000 miles on it. His is an 89 and has less than 70,000 but problems. He loves it and I love mine and we've been debating which one to replace. So I thin we've finally agreed. We'll keep mine for me to drive locally (it's so comfortable and easy to get in and out of). We'll look for another that will replace his but be our travel and probably our together car. So it will have to be bigger, more comfortable for me than his current baby. No idea what we want. Basically I want something easy for me in every way. I dread the car search and told him I want to do as much as possible on the internet. I know I have to go see some and try some but I dread the whole thing, esp. if we don't find something before summer. He's not crazy about buying another car but looking at them in the heat doesn't bother him. I die. Why do we always seem to marry the opposite?

Candice, I've been planting too but surely only a pittance of what you've been up to. We dashed out yesterday during a sprinkle and I picked out what I wanted and I think it will work well. then the darn things kept calling me to come out and play. I'd do some, come in, hear them and go out and do more. Hope to do the pots tomorrow morning and then finish the impatiens bed off the patio. Then finish the mulching. And then it will be basically the darn weeds. But that's ok this year. I found a handy dandy long handled tool that's a combination shovel, hoe, rake and it's made a lot more easy for me. Had found a long handled small shovel the other year that helped but not as much as this year's toy.

Sorry about the novel. I missed a few days and was playing catchup. Bye.

Raven454 05-13-2003 09:18 PM

Hi ladies,
Hope everyone is doing well. Meme, I just read about the stomach problems you've been having with the meds you're taking for pain. I had the same problem and went to see a gastro doc who did an endoscopy to make sure I didn't have any serious stomach problems. He put me on 30 mg of Prevacid once a day 2 years ago and I no longer have the severe pain anymore. I also take Inderal and Lexapro regularly as well as prescription strength Motrin. It's been a godsend.
Spring is finally here in Michigan too. Plan to do some yard work and get my flower beds ready for planting this week. :flow2:
Enjoy and don't work too hard, don't want to be in pain afterwards!

Gail :balloons:

MemeToo 05-14-2003 02:26 AM

Sounds like I must be the only one not able to do flower beds! I love flowers but they are too far down on the ground for me...can't get down there!!! Oh...I could get down there but I'd be on my butt and then I couldn't get back up! :p I have hanging plants and then half the time I have to get somebody else to water them because I can't get the water up there to them! :dizzy: I do have azaleas, hydrangea and roses across the front of my 50 ft. front porch though. Hubby set them out 14 years ago. He put down plastic and brown rock and he takes care of them for me. My kids have given me several other plants and bushes that he has set out around the back that have made it over the years, too. He weed eats and mulches around them. I also have 2 of the real 'old' lilac bushes. They are so pretty when they bloom and smell so good. They all know I love flowers so they get me plants, dish gardens, hanging baskets and fresh cut ones that don't take too much effort.

I don't know about you all but if something doesn't give soon I'm going to be in the bed doing NOTHING! I don't know if it's the weather (we're headed for more storms) - settling down after doing so much (from all the redecorating) - getting off the gold compound - or a combination of all three but I'm in one of the worst flare ups I've had in a very long time.

Candicej 05-14-2003 04:31 AM

..my eating has been going well, only had 3 brownies today ..and still op.
D

Worked 4 hours hand tilling the patch in front of the garden for my large yellow marigolds...24 of them. I had take the cover off, then use a shovel to loosen up the soil so it could dry out, break up the clumps of mud, and fertilizer add some top soil and use a garden claw to mix it all up and then rake it even and recover it, then I planted the flowers. Too much work for me, my son usally does the hard stuff (digging) but is to busy looking for a new grilfriend and a job to help me! Now I have to do the same thing to the vegetable garden!!!!!!!!!! I must have earned about 4 pts!

Meme..wish my DH would help me too but he is too tired when he gets home! Buspar makes me nausiated, can't take it! Everything makes me nausiated:(

Anagram..I am interested int aht long handled tool you have found, where did you find it, not sure I have seen one before:?:

Happy....thanks fo the hug..I think they give Fibro people anti inflam drugs becaus so many of them do have arthritis and do not know what else to give. All that stuff bothers my tummy too, can't even take asprin anymore, just a few tylenol.

Mima...How do you save your geraniums, I never had luck with them and the wind out here breaks off the blooms so I do not plant them any more.

Raven..how do like the Lexapro...any headaches from it. I have a bunch of samples in my closet but have been afraid to try it. Is it not too cold in Michigan to plant flowers yet?

Hi Ally..your chocolate bunnies sure are good:)

Mima 05-14-2003 06:48 AM

candice-i save my geraniums in the hallway all winter-can't have them insude because of allergies-they just stay the same but now they are blooming so when I put them out they will be gorgeous-I love geraniums-finally got an appt with the gastr......on June 24, colonoscopy to be scheduled. If I get bad when I work this time. I will cut down my days. What a day yeterda-ex-girlfriend was here to get Brad to sign off her lien on her house and they had me type up a promissory note to replace it-got a little hairy when she wanted the loan forgiven if something happened to him. i stuck to my guns. Also talked to brotherinlaw and we are going to help him with the will. He was very agreeable so I guess it is not a problem. Going to breakfast with friend's and taking Auntie to lunch-need a break from painting. Bye Mima

anagram 05-14-2003 08:32 AM

I've never had much luck saving geraniums either, inside or upside down in basement. Have had few in recent years but did put some in in front of the hostas and candytuft in front of house (only eight).

I got the tool in a garden shop (not at a chain store g.s.). I've been looking there for years for long handled stuff and had picked up a four foot (approx) gardening shovel last year which helps me put plants in. It's like the hand ones but this way I just had to bend to put in the plant and then I put dirt back around with long handled one and my feet. (I just don't do anything as neatly as I used to.) I'll try to find the name of my new gimmick. It really has been a help to me. Lots of weeds, etc. from two summers ago when I had my last knee replacement. Lots of grass growing up through plants, etc. Dh "helps" but just doesn't get it on lots of gardening stuff and can't help this year anyway. It's amazing enough he's mowing/fertilizing. Still not done the way I'd like but so much better....

Checked Mom's stuff when I took Mother's Day gift up yesterday. Found another that was overdue. She had gotten an "overdue" on her hospitalization last week that they called me about and also an e mail re her life insurance. I'm sort of disgusted about all that. I know she's 86 but I had asked two bros who see her regularly to check and make sure about this stuff and asked a sister to check on the brothers. Plus another sister spent two weeks there recently and apparently didn't bother to go through stuff. Mom is blaming her but actually the bills both came before she got there. This is obviously MY job and they're saving it for me. Not to mention the bank statements which haven't been rec'd since dh took sick. I'm sure Mom misses our lunches and dh keeps commenting on his cheating her out of them. She's lived with worse in her lifetime and has had lots of others who "visit". Will have more (houseful) next month so I should try to get up and get my work done before then. Obviously you can't get much done when there are all sorts of other people floating in and out. Most (but certainly not all) of these people do some work for her of one kind or another and it's not like I mind doing my share (and more). It's just I feel what they're overlooking can be massively important - if she were to lose her medigap insurance, etc. yikes!

Stepped on the scale for a sneak peek - yikes again! Hoping to lose some water before "official" weigh in tomorrow. Yes, I changed my weigh in day because it always seemed to be high on Wed and down a pound or so the next day. Hope it works that way this week.

Packed yet, Joanne? When are you leaving? Driving up? Or flying? Long trip. How much time will dgs have to spend with family?

Hey There

Anagram- My daughter still has not recieved a date of arrival. She recieved the tickets to get on the base but no date. G/son sorta said the 23rd.He isn't really supposed to say when. So I think it will be next week???? We will drive up. I will go to N/Fl. the day before we are to leave . I am anxious. Something could just keep that ship over there. Look what happened to the Lincoln?Watch Fox or CNN on or about that date and you will be able to see the arrival too. I watched the Lincoln.
New car ,huh. I keep telling my hubby we need a new car. He has never and will never give up on a car till it won't go another mile.
I am like Meme , as much as I like flowers I can't get up and down even though I have lost a lot of weight. My knees are too weak. With one knee replacement and another probably in the future, anything I do outside is standing or leaning over. I tried stools but they are usually too high to work or so low I can't use them.
Hello everybody...Joanne

Good morning

Well, I sure am the exception here. I HATE gardening! I love flowers, shrubs and trees, but once they are planted they just have to grow. I have had such severe back pain for 29 years that I just could not do it! I hate getting my hands in the dirt - don't like that feeling at all, and then there are the bugs and spiders to contend with - NO THANKS!!!! My Mom was a real gardener. Even when she moved into a seniors apartment, she talked them into to doing a garden plot and all the people who wanted a few rows could do so. If you like it, it is great therapy.

I remember when my son was 2. We had just moved to a new house and the driveway wasn't yet finished. It was just gravel. I was out in the garden weeding when the disc slipped. I had to crawl on my hands and knees across that darn gravel and into the house and lay on the chesterfield until my hubby came home. Thank goodness my daughter was old enough to look after her brother. I can't bend to do it, and my hips and knees don't allow me to get down to do it.

Joanne - I bet you are getting some anxious. It will be a great homecoming.

Meme - You are right! We will ALL be in bed if this weather doesn't straighten out. I can't remember when I felt this much pain:(

anagram 05-14-2003 11:43 AM

I can't get down to do flowers either; that's why i like the long handled tool. With two knee replacements, I sort of swing one leg back while I bend from the waist (I know, usually a no-no). I do have some back problems (arthritis) as well which is why I only do a moderate bit of work at a time. Today, I mostly planted in pots for the patio - that's easy enough. And yes, now they pretty much must grow on their own. Dh has been watering them the last couple of years but I don't know if that will come about this year or not. If not, I probably can this year - I'm just not as faithful about it as he is. It was great therapy for me, Happy, when I was younger - loved to yank and pull and dig (of course I wear gloves - don't like kitty surprises). So they're all in now - as I said, I do such a small amount although more this year than the last two. Now it's fight the bunnies for them.

My hubby LOVES working outside. He has a fairly large garden at his mom and dads (just down the road...a field and woods separate our house and theirs.) Then he has a little plot of tomatoes and peppers here. He mows our yard and most of the time the yard next door (where the trailer is). He keeps the shrubs trimmed and keeps my flowers trimmed back. He'll water them too if I ask him to. If I want anything planted usually all I have to do is ask him. If he has time, he'll do it...unless I want it planted somewhere that he will have to mow around...he hates having stuff out in the yard to have to mow around and I don't blame him for that...when I used to be able to do the riding mower I hated even having to mow around the trees! If I had a flower garden and needed it worked up, he'd just use his tiller and do it for me. He'd help me plant, too. He's real good about stuff like that. Now...if I could just get him to pick up after himself I'd have it made! :D He's a very messy person! He's very sympathetic about my health problems and really good about helping out...like coming home and cooking... but I'd rather cook as to clean up his mess!!! :p At least he tries! He used to be totally different a couple of years ago... He's changed a lot! I think maybe my threatening to leave him woke him up!

I have my house all put back together except for 3 windows and I was going to have all 4 of the rugrats over for a 'sleepover' Friday night but I don't know if I'm going to be up to it or not! I'm going to have to talk to hubby tonight and see if he is willing to do most of the work! If he is we can but if he has other plans I can't do it. They haven't all been here to spend the night since December. I miss them!

anagram 05-14-2003 10:26 PM

Dh had port removed from his neck today and all seems well. It's been a very emotional day and I've run afoul of some dried pineapple that I bought with the idea I'd eat a few pieces at a time. Hah!

Hi guys-gardening hurts-don't do too much but what a reward!!!Biggest thing I do is water them I need a faucet outside. I want some window boxes for gearniums I think. Joanne , you must be so excited! Anagram-you sure have a lot on your plate. It's so hard when there isa an elderly parent. Take care everyone. going to paint today. mima

Joanne D 05-15-2003 10:16 AM

Hey There

Mima- Yes ,I am excited. I am more excited that that ship is coming home. It was a anxious time when it was over there , although they were pretty safe you just never can tell what could happen.
Anagram- I hope your hubby keeps doing well. It is no fun when they are sick. When there are elderly parents in the mix it is that much harder. Been there done that.
Still hot here and no rain in my area. I walked yesterday and it just about did me in. I am going to try and at least do that walk (2 1/2 miles) 3 times a week. I was doing much more just a year ago. I can't seem to do that now. How can one year make that much difference?
Happy. We say on TV last night that there is still a lot of snow up there. Does it last all year in northern Canada?
Hello everybody...Joanne

Hello ladies,
All this talk of gardening...I spent 3 1/2 hours outside yesterday getting my flower beds ready to plant, cut & edged the lawn....and now I need a few days to recover from the darn pain :(
Candice, I love the Lexapro. The only side effect I've had from it is dry mouth. It hasn't given me headaches at all. I'm sleeping now, something I haven't done much of for the past 8 or so years. Between perimenopause and fibro, I was either sweating or in pain, so sleep was hard to come by. But, I'm sleeping 6-7 hours a night now!
Going to hit the nurseries tomorrow and buy some flats of flowers. Supposed to be in the mid seventies and sunny all weekend here, so I can get them planted.
To those of you having painful flare-ups, take care, get plenty of rest and I hope you feel better soon.

See ya soon

Hey There

Hello everybody..My hubby has been working in the yard for a few hours just about every day. Mulching everything. It is in the 90's here now so we are trying to keep things from drying out so fast.
I walked 2 miles today on the treadmil. ..Only ate 16 points so I can have something later.
Bye...Joanne

Rested for two days and back out planting today:) Picked a bouquet of purple iris, yellow tulips and lilly of the valley..smells so good!

Seems we all enjoy flowers but not the work;) Keeps me out of trouble I guess!

Mima 05-17-2003 07:32 AM

Hi everyone-have to go to the funeral this am.I lost 1 and a fourth lbs at the weigh in-very happy-I am half way there. Need to walk-not for the weight but for the cholesterol-need to remember that. Stone on front half done. Will send pictures late but I have to send them to Meme first-where are you Meme. Good for you Joanne. I really like TOPS. Yesterday we had a crown from the yard sale stuff at the church and the one with the best weight loss got it.We all had a weight loss yesterday. gotta wash my hair. be good everyone. Mima

anagram 05-17-2003 08:44 AM

Bouquet sounds lovely, Candice. I've had lilac and pink tulups but must throw out now. My lily of the valley's quite lush now too, should bring some in. So tired of rain and gray skies and the aches that go with same.

Got in a good and much needed workout at the pool yesterday. Haven't figured today out yet but will go to church tomorrow instead of tonight so we can watch the Preakness on TV. Missed the Derby because we were babysitting (well dh got to watch the actual race but we usually make a mini event out of watching it) but I was playing with the princesses at race time.

Should really look into TOPS. I'm sort of at a standstill motivation wise. There's a CURVES near us I should look into as well. Just no get up and go when I'm hurting. The sun will come out TOMORROW, TOMORROW - at least that's what they're saying NOW. It was supposed to come out here today.

MemeToo 05-17-2003 01:47 PM

I'm here Mima: [email protected]

Storms here all night. Didn't sleep any. Was still awake at 8. Slept some after that but now I feel like I've been run over by a Mac truck. More storms for tonight and tomorrow...oh joy! Why did I even make up the bed?

Joanne D 05-17-2003 06:59 PM

Hey There

Meme- Send some of that rain to the west coast of Fl. I live a mile from the Gulf and I am always moaning about the lack of rain. Ofcourse,I love the rain.
I walked my usual route today. I hope I can keep it up.
I ache like a toothache all over but what the heck.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend...Joanne

anagram 05-17-2003 08:02 PM

Cold and rainy here today again. 52 degrees high, incredible for May 17th.

Got in a walk and some wet gardening. Relaxing day.

Raven454 05-18-2003 12:30 AM

Hi ladies,
Had a beautiful day here, mid-70's & sunny & more of the same tomorrow. Had a load of mulch delivered we put in and I'm totally exhausted. My hands are killing me, but it's starting to look really nice. All this gardening will be my workout for the week, lol.
Think I'll sit out on the patio and sip iced tea and read a book tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of the weekend all!

Gail
