Cool High LDL-P and Simvastatin?

I just found out that I have a high (more than twice as high as its supposed to be) LDL-P level and my doctor wants me to start on Simvastatin. I am going to try to limit fat intake and put off the Simvastatin because the side effects sound scary (plus I don't want to be on any more meds). I re-check in June so wish me luck. Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so, have any of you been able to fix a LDL-P level with diet alone? Thanks

Now, this is very controversial, but, it would be worth your time to read the book "The Great Cholesterol Con" by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick. I got it off Amazon.com. Basically, the biggest problem causing heart disease is too many simple carbs, not cholesterol. LDL is not even a measure of cholesterol and our bodies NEED cholesterol to function properly. Lots of biochemistry in the book as well as results of studies done for decades that show cholesterol and saturated fats to not be the problem. In fact, many studies show that as cholesterol levels in the body are decreased, the risk for heart attack and stroke increase.

We started researching this when my DH had elevated 'cholesterol' and was put on simvastatin. He started having severe body pain which did not go away until he went off the statin. Now, we don't worry about cholesterol or fats, but are trying to cut our simple sugar intake, along with processed foods. He just feels better, also.

Thanks, I did some research and started taking phytosterols and phytostanols (which are natural and have no side effects). I get retested next week so we will see if this helps. If it doesn't, I will do the Simvastatin. My cholesterol isn't really even bad. It is the LDL-P which measures the size of your LDL (low density lipo-proteins) particles. small sized ones work like BB's on your arteries (causing damage thus attracting plaque build-up) and large ones are slimy and move easilly (this is what is wanted versus the BBs). It isn't a routine test that is done with your basic cholesterol screening, you are right, but it is an important test. I basically found out I could drop dead without knowing I had a problem (LOL besides obesity and smoking history as risk factors).

PS; a really good book that helps is called Cholesterol Down by Dr Janet Bond-Brill. one of our bloggers recomended it. I got it on E-bay for cheap and it really had some good information. We will see!
