Good Day to all of you. This thread is so quiet. Where has everybody gone?

Meme - It seems that you are very busy renovating. All that money getting spent, makes me glad I am renting at the moment:lol I hope you are feeling better.

Candice - Also do some renovating? Did you put in just the shower or the whole bathroom? I can't remember and now I am not on the same thread.

Anagram - Haven't heard from her in a while. I hope she is just busy having fun.

Joanne - Hi. Hope your day is going well.

Ally - Renovating is such a hard thing to do. You get one thing done, and it just goes on and on. Updating one thing, makes everything else look shabby, so onward you go. Boy, do I remember that!

Mima - I guess you are busy working. Hope it is going well.

Marlene - Don't give up on Atkins. Just make sure that you are sticking to the allotted number of carbs (20 per day for 1st couple of weeks). That isn't much and it doesn't take much to alter the losing pattern. It is a very tight diet when you are on induction.

Well, it is cold and downright miserable here today. The wind is howling and the snow is blowing (it is also snowing a little). I don't like going out in this, but I did have to go to the Dr. today. Had to get my flushed AGAIN!!!! Hope that is the end of it, but somehow, I doubt it. Then I went to the mall and I decided to buy an exercise ball. A lot of people with FM have found good results with it - now if the O/A in my back will let me do it, it will be great, otherwise, back it goes.

Everyone have a great day.

Joanne D 03-05-2003 07:32 PM

Hey There

Happy- I guess everyone has been real busy.
I had my first ond only time for jury duty today. I know it is supposed to be my civic duty, but, I was really nervous that I was going to get picked. I have company for the weekend and I just have a lot to do and to sit there for hours is not worth the 15.oo they give you. I will be 70 on Monday so I won't have to worry about that again. They didn't want me anyhow. I guess the lawyers didn't like my answers on DUI. I don't really have a lot of pity for people that use drugs and alcohol and drive.
It is real warm here now. I wonder as crazy as this winter has been if we will get any more cold weather. I would hate for it to get hot this soon. That usually means it is going to be a long hot summer.
Hello everybody. ...Bye, Joanne

Happy Canuk 03-07-2003 01:35 AM

Quiet board - I don't have much to say either. Really cold here. Going to 30 below tonight. The other night, with the windchill it was 45 below!! Now that is cold.

I hope everyone is doing well.

I'm home for 2 days and really tired and I only have to work 2 more days when I go back but.....hard work ahead. This is funny!!!!My daughter met a young man on the internet-turns out that his mother was married to Brad's brother-she died in 98 so I didn't know her-just remember Brad telling me she died. That makes them step cousins but not much else. Anyhow-they are just friends but they both were flabbergasted when I told Suzanne who passed it along.Small world. I worked very hard last week-over 8 hours each day-but all money will be saved for next years stay in FL. Bye for now-I didn't read all the posts-hope everyone is well. Mima

MemeToo 03-08-2003 05:54 PM

Well...I ordered my carpet and tile this morning and then came home and painted hubby's bedroom. I'm pooped. I always have to do the trim work and that's murder. Especially the ceiling!

My heart rate has slowed down some. The Dr. upped the dosage 60 mgs. I was taking 180, now I'm taking 240. I think it's going to work...the highest it got while I was painting was 112.

They're coming Monday to measure my rooms. I'll be busy cleaning out closets, etc. for the next couple of weeks. Have to take it all out and then put it back. I'm going to throw out a lot of stuff I haven't used in years! I told hubby to be prepared to make a couple of trips to the dump!

Hope everyone is doing ok...

Mima 03-09-2003 07:26 AM

Wow Meme-when you are done can you come north-we have about 10 projects left to do-we are waiting for MONEY! I did so well yesterday-except for a granola bar-I only had complex carbs for the carbs-someone I work with is doing Sugarbusters-it sounds better than Atkins-of course, I've been off my food plan because of being away but I have walked often so I didn't gain anything-only 2 more days left but I am now in charge and we have double the amount of work with little help but we will get it done. Brad and I are going to our own churches today-the weather is warm and things are melting!!!!Yeah!!!Be good-Mima

Ally0306 03-09-2003 03:35 PM

I haven't forgotten about you. I just have had too much going on. Men on my roof, men in my bathroom. The big stuff is done, and I am so glad to have a clean whie bathroom. But what did I find this morning. Long brown hair all over the new white shiny floor. That would be MY long brown hair. Arghghghgh.
And while the construction guys were here they insisted that I get the installers of my front and back door back as they say the job is terrible. Especially my screen door .... it has a full glass in it. Very pretty but very heavy. The first big wind took it and blew it wide open and damaged it. Now I find out it was supposed to have a wind guard. So the guy comes and was RUDE to me. Kept telling me to stop talking, I could speak when he was done. He at one point stopped and heaved a sigh and said he did not have to take my sh*t. My jaw dropped. I told him to finish looking at the doors and leave and would discuss the matter with his supervisor. I am soooooo angry. Supervisor called me back later and put me on speaker phone. I know this guy was right there. While HE also argued the points of the door, he finally did have to admit that his employee was way out of line.
I hate stuff like this. I didn't call when it happened cause I thought they would tell me it was my problem. And I was right.
I have a box of candy on my kitchen table that is looking pretty good right now. If I opened it, I would eat the whole thing!!!

Joanne D 03-09-2003 07:04 PM

Hey There

Ally- Don't you just love the chauvinist attitude of some men. I hope you cut them off at the knees or higher.
Hello all. I will be 70 years old tomorrow and I have already cleaned up like a bandit. If the Lord lets me stay healthy for another 10 years it is no telling what will happen. My family has been so nice to me. My kids took me shopping and to dinner last night. My brother sent me flowers ,My sister brought me two bags of goodies. I am so blessed. The cards in themselves are so nice. I love them all. NOW, lets hope the scale is down this week. I lost 3 1/2 lbs last week. At least I hope I don't show a gain.
It has been a nice weekend..Joanne

anagram 03-10-2003 10:27 AM

Great loss, Joanne! It was probably lurking and just poked out to put you in a great mood.

I'm in one this a.m. Up and ready to knock off whatever I've put on the last week or so. Off to the pool today too.

Come on, spring, motivation, energy, exercise and all the good stuff!

Good Monday to all.

MemeToo 03-10-2003 10:56 AM

Good job Joanne...and:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOANNE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Bet you didn't know I could sing that good, did you!!!

I lost 2 pounds last week. Now, if I can just do that good the next 7 weeks before Easter, I have a beautiful red, white and blue dress in the closet that I can wear and I won't have to buy a new one!

The men are coming to measure my house for carpet tonight. Gotta go clean closets! UGH!

Hi

Joanne, I hope you are having a wonderful birthday.

Marlene - so sorry to hear that you are in pain. Hope it passes soon.

Ally and Meme - Such busy gals - tearing the house apart. Glad you stood your ground there Ally.

Anagram - nice to hear from you. You sound happy.

It is still pretty cold here. It is STARTING to warm up a little, but now it is going to start snowing. Just when I wanted spring to SPRING:lol:

anagram 03-10-2003 05:54 PM

A Happy Birthday from me too, Joanne. My uncle (almost like an older brother since we're only 4 and a half years apart and lived close) turned 70 yesterday and today my sister turned 59. Lots of company! You deserve to make out well on your birthday.

Joanne D 03-11-2003 09:30 AM

Hey There

Thank You All for the Birthday wishes.
Happy , My hubby got a kick out of the lady in the tub. That is just about what I did. I like to read in a hot tub of water.
Anagram- I have no uncles left. They have all gone to another place. I remember when My G/mother passed away. Her funeral was small. A family member said all her friends have died. She was 94.
Meme- I heard you singing! Thank You.
Well it is back to real life and Dr. appointments today. Just routine thank god.
Bye...Joanne

anagram 03-11-2003 10:52 AM

But with a spring in your step, Joanne, from all that love!

Dh has two dr. appts today as well. I think we should have a better hobby. But I'm feeling more spring like. It's not here yet but they're dangling a 60 in front of us for Sat. I'll believe it when I see it. It was 27 when I was out this morning.

Ally0306 03-11-2003 05:01 PM

Happy belated birthday Joanne. Hope it was special.
I have not eaten or opened that box of candy yet, but it is looking good. Diet ads keep popping up here....are they trying to give me a hint???
Had to call Consumer Affairs and report those door men. I talked to a woman who tripped all over herself apologizng for these guys rude behavor. But she too was supposed to call me back right away and I have heard nothing. I am sure they call me all sorts of names behind my back.
Just had my eyes dilated....can't see and this computer is too white!!!
:dizzy:

Joanne D 03-11-2003 06:57 PM

Hey There

Ally- Thanks for the B/day wishes .Don't eat that candy!! Get rid of it!!
There are lots of rude people around these days. My daughter and I were in sears sat. After waiting for a cashier to wait on us for about 10 min we finally got up to the counter. My daughter asked him a question concerning her card. He told us the guy on the other register would help us and he just walked away. She said is he leaving. I told her it looks like it. We then had to wait another 5 min . By that time she was burning. She asked him the name of the very rude guy. He said why do you want to talk to somebody? She said yes a manager. He called her and we reported him. The manager said he had been acting strange lately. I told her maybe it was time for him to retire. Ofcourse they are always sorry. And so forth.
We had Dr. appointments. Maybe he gave me some motivation!!!I walked 2 1/2 miles when I got home. A good hour to myself.

Good morning all!!!!And Happy Birthday Joanne!!!!!Congrats!!!I am so happy to be home but I have a wicked case of irritable bowel syndrome from being away-happens every time!!!I will staighten out just from being home. We have such wonderful food when I'm away-too much of it-like lemon squares and potato chips. I am not getting on the scale but am going right back on a healthy food plan. Going to try Sugar Busters -anyone else do that? Complex \carbs and no sugar so I will be eating carbs but they will be healthy one. Been on the prempro for a week and a half and no more hot flashes. Spring is coming -it's going to warm up here also. I will walk today. And make an eye appt-having a wicked time reading signs-2 cataracts not ready to be operated on!!!Makes the vision decrease faster than normal. So everyone have a good day-you all sound more optimistic-me too and congrats to Ally for sticking up for herself. First Day of the Rest of My Life

Ok Think I need to be accountable so I think I will start here. Tired of yoyo dieting. Been on and off weight watcher way to long to be at this weight never going anywhere but up and down so it times to get real. I just was diagnosed with Fibro (Hi Fibro ww'ers) and thiscondition is known for having overweight as a symptom. Meds also contribute to being weighty. But I want to be a survivor of both Fibro and WW'ers so in when diagnosed for Fibro on Feb 26 (and my birthday) I decided this would be my first day of the rest of my life being a survivor. So I began to get serious about things. Since Fibro wants low carb/high protein diet and I like WW'ers style I have combined the two together. Since that day I have went from 218 to 212.5 lbs(which is really good for a yoyo like I was) I am going to be accountable to someone so I hope you gals (and guys) will allow me to be accountable to you. And I will be glad to keep tabs on you as well. Lets be survivors to this battle for the rest of ours lives together. Thanks Ladybugplus
PS if there is a thread or board for this accountablity and or/ Fibro please lead me there also
If you don't take care of your body,
where will you live?

Hi Ladybug!!Welcome to the group. We are all struggling with fibro plus lots of ailments and meds do make it harder to diet. I think sugar is one of the evils too. I am trying to do complex carbs and no sugar but I am just returning from a binge-I was so tired yesterday and I think all that sugar getting out of my system was responsible for some of it. Getting massage and a haircut today. Had a bout with diverticulosis yesterday but I'm better. We are getting 5,000 back in our taxes because we way overpaid our estimated taxes so we have most of this years covered. What a gift. We went nut last Dec trying to come up with 4,000 to send in and we got it all back!!!Isn't that great about Elizabeth Smart!!Those parents must be overjoyed. The power of prayer!!!!!Bye for now Mima

Joanne D 03-13-2003 09:53 AM

Hey There

WelcomeLadybug. I think that at sometime we are all yo yo dieters. I know I am. I try really hard and I seem to be gaining and losing the same 2-3 lbs. I hardly ever eat out,but , made an exception on my birthday and now have the 3 1/2 lbs I lost last week back. I was very good otherwise but not good enough I guess.
Mima..I wish we could share in your windfall with the taxes.. We pay every year. I too have the cateract problems. Not ready yet to have surgery. It makes me really nervouse sometimes when my vision is not so great.
I walked again yesterday. 2 1/2 miles and paid the price last night. Three pillows and the heating pad with a pain pill thrown in. I wonder sometimes how" worth it " it is.
Hello All...Joanne

Mima 03-14-2003 06:27 AM

Hi everyone!I have kept off 3 and a half pounds but need to lose 8 more. Had a massage yesterday-she gave me an exercise for my shoulders which is causing pain in my elbows-however sciatica muchbetter. Joanne-don't walk so far. plese. I go by time , not distance and I only do a half hour-seems to be ok. We had snow again yesterday but it's supposed to be a warmer weekend. Daughter is going to Fl on Sun-wish I could pack myself in the suitcase to see grandaughter. Bye for now. Mima

Happy Canuk 03-15-2003 10:03 AM

Good morning

and a good one it is! We got up into the 50's yesterday, and the BIG meltdown is helping. The sewers are having a hard time taking all the water, so some of the streets are like swimming pools.

Went to the Dr. yesterday, because my ear and my eye are NOT getting any better. Have been using an antibiotic ointment in my eye for over 2 weeks. Anyway, it looked like my eyelid was a little swollen and it was sore. The Dr. said, that this time, it looks like eczema. Then he had a look in my ear, and said the same thing. I don't know where all this stuff is coming from, as for the first 55 years of my life, I never had a thing. Seems strange to me.

Well, I have been on the cabbage soup diet this week. I will let you know how I do. Have 2 days left. My cousin has been doing this for about 3 or 4months. She uses the diet one week a month and has lost over 40 pounds. The first 4 days are all fruit and vegetables, then a couple of days of meat and veggies, and then brown rice and veggies on the last day. Not hard to stick to and never hungry. But, I bet I don't lose much, because it is mostly carbs. Anyway, I think I am ready to get back on Atkins and will be able to do it, now that I have lost my sweet tooth once again.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Happy Canuk 03-15-2003 10:04 AM

These are a couple of pictures from the Province of New Foundland on Canada's east coast. I don't think I would like this much snow, although at some point we have also had this much.

This fella is actually shovelling his house out. Now that IS something I have never seen. Apparently, they have to move all that snow out into the ocean.

Happy Canuk 03-15-2003 10:06 AM

Care for a walk down the road :lol Joanne.

My son has moved in but not unpacked or stayed all night..Sunday he will be here for good but he is in and out so much and makes such a mess of stuff! Just not used to that. We had his BD dinner and he brought a friend and my other son brought his girl. It was nice but too much work for me. I am so worn out and have not been to bed yet going now. I was up cleaning up the mess and washing some of his smelly clothes since he went away for the night with his friend. No where to hang anything the closets are so full with my stuff. We have not extablished any rules yet but I told him I do not cook on Sunday or Monday for sure and anyother day I might not be feeling up to it. I gotta GET SOME REST! :dz:
Happy BD Joanne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hb::dizzy:

Ally0306 03-15-2003 05:23 PM

Welcome Lady Bug Laura.
Beautiful day in NY today. Shouldn't be inside, but it is muddy outside.
My beautiful new bathroom has a pitfall. It looks dirty all the time.....I should not have gone for that white virtuous look.
Someone gave me a box o candy a few weeks ago...I opened it last nite and almost ate the whole thing. It wasn't even one of those emergency "have to have Chocolate" things.....
Oooops.

Joanne D 03-15-2003 07:17 PM

Hey There

Candice- I know just how you feel. Set the ground rules and quick.
Happy- I would love to take a walk there just once. I doubt I would want to live in it. I stay cold all the time in Florida. And hate the heat in the summer. It is beautiful though.
Ally I got a oatmeal color rug for my front room,in order to get more light in there. I am sooooo sorry. Every speck that gets on it shows up like a spot light. I am always cleaning. Not to worry at this rate I will wear it out fast and get another one.
Hello everyone...Joanne

LadyBugPlus 03-15-2003 08:27 PM

Hi Ally

Thats ok we all have to fall to get back up and learn our lessons in life. Just pick yourself up, shake yourself off, and go ahead a few steps. Your getting there and so are we..
After about 4 months (aunt Flow visited) Thot I entered menopause as I am 49 and last few years the cycles are getting farther and farther apart. I should have known, but since I am on Fibro meds I had no pain, it was neat as I have always had bedridden pain those first 2 days. But I did crave my chocolate too. I bought GoLightly Fudgie rolls. They r sugar free and 6 of them is 1 weight watcher point. They are like those soft brach chewies you can buy in bulk bins at grocery stores. Thats where I got mine. I love them and had 12 of thenm for 2 points on that UGLY day I allow myself a treat LOL Just move on Were with you LadyBugPlus

MemeToo 03-16-2003 12:28 AM

Hi Lady Bug and welcome to the board.

ANNE...YUCK...It's finally beginning to warm up and look "springy" here and then you go and post all that yucky ole snow! Reminds me of my days in Michigan. I remember one snow we had up there that we had to shovel ourselves out of the house. My brother pushed the storm open just enough to get out and finally got to the garage...had a terrible time getting the garage door open about 2 ft....crawled in and got the snow shovel then it took him 3 hrs. to shovel his car out. He was determined to go to work for a 1/2 day. Well...he came back about 2 hrs. later...had only gone around the block! Said he helped 4 other people push their cars back up in their driveways! It is supposed to be rainy here next week but it's going to be in the 70s...I can handle that!

I went back to the Neurologist yesterday. Yet ANOTHER new medicine. Ever heard of Topamax? It's a seizure med. used to treat migraines. He said with most of his fibro patients who also had migraines it stoped their migraines almost completely! The side effects are horrendous but from everything I can read, they all but disappear after about 8 weeks (if I can take them that long). I read about a lot of studies they did and they said many of the people they tried it on stopped taking it because they couldn't take the side effects. But they said the ones who didn't didn't stop said the side effects were almost all gone at the end of the 8 weeks. If I knew FOR SURE the migrianes would be gone in 8 weeks, too...it would be worth it!!! Here are a few of the side effects: burning, tingling sensation to skin, dizziness, loss of muscle control, blurred vision, slurred speech, excessive sleepiness, can't think, nervousness, fatigue, anxiety, difficulty with concentration or attention, depression, confusion and...almost all patients have abnormal weight loss of about 3 pounds a week. I have already experienced the dizziness, burning and tingling skin, sleepiness and anxiety and I've only been on it 1 day! My Dr. said he went on it for a couple of weeks last year just to lose a few pounds. Said he dropped 8 pounds in 2 weeks! NOW THAT SIDE EFFECT I CAN LIVE WITH!!!!!!!

I am now on 4 medicines that one of the common side effects is making you sleepy. Looks like I'd get more sleep than what I do, doesn't it!

Speaking of sleep...I'm sleepy now...and it's only 11:30...so I'm going to bed! 'nite 'nite. I'll let you know how I do on the weight loss! My luck, it will be the only side effect I don't have!!!

Mima 03-16-2003 07:22 AM

Hi guys!!!It's spring in New England also-going to be 50 today but we still have a lot of snow left. It sure is great to walk now!!!I am hurting from a yoga video. My muscles are so tight I want to loosen up but.......Went out for Chinese last night and went to see About Schmidt-it was good but not what we expected-thought provoking!!If I had one of my kids move back in at this stage , I would not have the patience. I guess ground rules help. A few years back, I had my stepson and his daughter with me. Wow!!!Going to have one birthday dinner next week-all of our kids are between March 15-he's in FL-and April 25-all 4 of them!!!Then I am inviting their uncle so we can exchange our Christmas gifts because we had a blizzard at Christmas!!!Have a great day everyone!!!!Mima

Ally0306 03-16-2003 02:45 PM

Mima...That movie drove me nuts for days. Put me in a rotten mood. I am not sure Kathy Bates deserves an Oscar for that role...I have seen her in better parts. But she did show her fat nude body, so she deserves something for that...
Meme...tell me how Topomax works. I have not had a migraine (knock on wood) in a few weeks. They come in waves for me. When I get one, I will have them for weeks.
Happy..... went hiking today and there is so much melting snow, it was like a river on either side of the trail.
Joanne....I won't even give you a report on my cream colored carpeting in this muddy weather...
Anagram, Lady Bug, Candice and all....howdy.

LadyBugPlus 03-16-2003 03:51 PM

Meme Hi again I took Topamax 25 mg to start off but quit cause of allot of those side effects I might get back on them if you lose 2 #'s a week Oh yeah..LOL let me know if side effects happen and leave and if yo lose weight...thanks its nice here in ohio 70°
I notice Ifeel better Fibro wise on nice days this nasty winter cold was worst than most so Fibro Flares were plenty...not sure about rainy seasons or heat as I am newly diagnosed and in self discovery period of symptoms with this DD But I am determined to lose weight I am on low carb WW program..started period after 4 months w/o as i am also peri menopause alsoi (49 and falling apart LOL) but no hot flashes Anyhoots I lost 8.5 lbs in 2 weeks in spite of meds and PMS Yahoo....we can do it....When I turn 50 in 2/04 I am celebrating retiring from 30 yrs at GM car assembly plant and turning the Big 50 by going on a 8 day Florida vacation with 3 day cruise to Bahama's so I want to be at least 60 lbs lighter . And I will be or else....lol Love to all Ladybugplus

Mima 03-17-2003 08:01 AM

Good morning-wish you well with your goal Ladybug-it's going to be gorgeous out today-everything is melting!!!I need motivation to finish 2 projects-stenciling the hall and grouting the bathroom floor.I am in the mood to do other things but.........That movie did not depress me Ally but Kathy Bates wasn't in it long enough to get an award even though she was good. Brda saw her naked in another movie so I guess she doesn't have a problem with disrobing.Pray for peace. Mima

Hello

Hello Everybody-- Let's all say a extra prayer tonight for our boys in the military.. My G/son is on the Truman. I know my daughter is thinking of nothing else but him tonight. I have been down in the dumps and feeling so tired today . Too much news today. My hubby starts yelling at the T V every now and then. Dashell is getting a piece of his mind right now..
I am going to bed as soon as the President speaks tonight.
Bye- Joanne:angel:

Candicej 03-18-2003 01:34 AM

My son is moved in but not unpacked yet. This is his first night here and he says he wants leftovers for breakfast..well that is fine but not when I plan to use all of them for another meal! This is gonna take some getting used to. I do not like my food messed with!:D

My other son has not found another job yet so we are footing his bill too! I told DH if he keeps handing out the money they will never be on there own! (especially money we do not have any extra of!)

I think maybe I ate too little all week cause I am super weak..still not losing either but not gaining.

Hurting so bad today and rain all week! At least the snow is gone for now!

Happy Canuk 03-18-2003 02:51 AM

Hi

Candice - Hope things get to be 'normal' in your household soon. My son always liked to eat leftovers for breakfast as well. It worked out ok, because I didn't usually have enough leftovers for 3 of us. That works well for just the two of us. I hope you are not trying to eat less so you can continue to lose. I thought you were already at your goal? Don't get obsessed.

Ladybug - I forgot to welcome you to our little corner of the world. Congrats on that weightloss. It will be nice for you to retire - it helps if you DON'T have to push yourself to go to work, especially if you have fatigue. I couldn't do that now that is for sure.

Joanne - yelling at the TV? Well, whatever helps. The news is so very depressing right now. The world is in a turmoil and it seems that we have no way out. I think we have backed ourselves into a corner and I sure don't like that. I can sure understand how your family is feeling right now.

Meme - How are ya doin? I hope that your new meds are working and that you aren't experiencing to many side effects.

Mima , Ally and Anagram - Hi. Hope you are all well.

Well it was terrible out on Sunday, raining and snowing and blowing! Monday, it was 48 above and today, it will only be in the 30's. It is like huge wading pools everywhere you go! Well, spring is just a few days away now. Let's all pray that with spring, come new beginings as well.

Need for 8 glasses of water a myth: nutrition experts
Last Updated Fri, 14 Mar 2003 16:59:11
VANCOUVER - We may not need to drink eight glasses of water a day after all, Canadian and American experts say.

Since the end of the Second World War, many people assumed they should drink at least eight glasses or two litres of water per day to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Countless weight loss and fitness magazines have reinforced the idea.

Scientists are rethinking whether we need eight glasses of water a day

University of British Columbia nutrition Prof. Susan Barr is part of a joint Canadian and American team of doctors and nutritionists who are looking at how much water people actually need.
Barr said they couldn't find any scientific evidence to support the eight to 10 glass recommendation.

The confusion may have arisen because a typical adult's energy requirements call for two to three litres of fluid – but it doesn't all have to be in the form of glasses of water. All foods and non-alcoholic drinks count toward the goal.

For example, Barr said:

broccoli is about 90 per cent water
bread is about 35 per cent water
meat, fish and poultry contain 50 to 60 per cent water
As for drinking water to lose weight, Barr said, "If you drink a lot of water, right at the moment you will feel full. But half an hour later, your stomach will be empty and you'll be hungry."
So far, the researchers say it seems most North Americans are getting the necessary amount of water from their diet.

There have been cases of people drinking too much water. Confusion, headache and cramps are symptoms of drinking too much water. A few deaths have been linked to excessive water intake while taking the party drug, ecstasy.

On the other hand, people who are exercising and sweating more than normal need to replenish the vital liquid to avoid dehydration.

Recommendations on exactly how many glasses people should try to drink are expected in the fall.

Interesting on the water, Happy. I know dh must count pudding, jello, ice cream, fruit, etc. toward the limited amount of water he's allowed each day.

Had a great day Sunday at my daughter's. As older gd says "our WHOLE family" was there. That's eight of us which seems so small to me to be a whole family but she's thrilled to pieces when we're all together (well, so is Mimi but I let her express it). We ate lunch on the deck because it was so warm (70 degrees). It was a shock to my winter bogged mind. It was about 66 here yesterday. Won't stay that warm but it was sure a jump start to spring thinking.

Joanne, I share your concerns but of course for you and your family it's much more difficult. I know my sister was really a wreck when her 18 year old was in the Gulf War. We all were concerned but he was her baby.

Hope at least the headaches are gone, Meme, and that the side effects are only the mild ones.

How are the projects coming, Mima. Wish I only had two - I'm so backed up (story of my life).

I'm not looking too closely at my cream colored carpet right now either, Ally. That's the trouble with bright sunny days - I see too much.

Oh, Lordy, Candice - I'm with you. I've gotten so used to just the two of us that it takes me a week to adjust when they leave after just a visit.

Welcome Ladybug - Hope you bring us all good luck!

Results of thyroid test didn't change my dosage any. I think I'd feel much better if I could just get it back on track. Stomach bug the other week seems to have changed something.

Went to pool yesterday, have been getting in some nice outdoor walks, drinking water (moderately, Anne), etc. Someone should remind me "It's the Food, Stupid". DH is down to 162 lbs and we've been trying to get enough calories into him so he stops losing and it's tough to remember I'm on the other side of that fence.

Off I go to face the world - Good one, all.
