Fibromyalgia #83

I'm trying to remember what everyone said...in a fog today. I slept until nearly 12!!!

Anagram, you need to rest! That's what happens to us all when we get in a situation like that...a crisis! We keep on going until things are better then we collapse. It's time for you to collapse!

Joanne...hope you don't have a really bad cold! Soup and rest...sounds like you have it under control!

As for me, I'm sore from my fall at McDonald's and trying to stay off my ankle as much as possible. I still need to take down all my inside decorations. Hubby got rid of the lights outside this morning. The Dr. said I needed to keep off it until Friday so I guess the tree and stuff can wait until the weekend. It is raining here today and supposed to turn colder and snow...I'm achy!

For 2003 I just plan to take one day at a time and do the best I can! Everytime I make a bunch of resolutions, I'm disappointed with myself so I'm not going to set myself up for that this year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL

Ally0306 01-01-2003 04:15 PM

Happy New Year All!!!!!
I was asleep by 11pm. Hope I didn't miss anything exciting.
Meme.....Did you contact the managment of McDonald's after you fell? They should be paying for any medical bills you have.
Hope everyone is having a nice day and I bet the next time I check in, everyone will be starting a new diet.
I completely rid the house of all chocolate and sugar by eating it myself.
So no more Chocolate til Valentine's Day half price sales!! :dizzy:

Happy Canuk 01-01-2003 08:11 PM

Ok. Now we have two #83 threads goings. This should be interesting.

Ally - that is my trick. Eat everything and get it out of the house. Then no excuses. I think I ate more sugar today than I have in over 2 months. Oh well, just starting over - AGAIN!!!

I don't no if Cipro and Celebrex helps with sugar cravings or not = I sure have had them lately. I am thinking it is from this meds.

Meme - hope you feel better. I will also wait until the weekend to get the tree down. I need some help with it, and hubby seems to have developed a bad cold. He sure isn't feeling well, so I will let it be - for now.

Mima 01-02-2003 07:15 AM

Meme-you must be in a fog-I had already started an 83 but we'll use yours. Brad has a terrible cold too-I guess when I didn't feel well it was from a virus but I'm better now. He brought up a beautiful exercycle from the garage so it's sitting in the living room. I love it but I ahve to be careful not to overdo it. We're having another storm so I had to change my plans so I will try to get everything done so I can go out tomorrow before the next storm, We are leaving Sunday morning. Gled to hear from you Anagram-life is sure difficult for you right now. Went to see motherinlaw yesterday-she's still week and suppossed to go home sometime-feel bad that we will be gone-hope nothing happens while we are gone. But she has 2 other children who take good care of her. And someone is coming to stay in the house. Ally-good job on the chocolate-I know that mood-I am going to have to go to WW meetings when I get back-not doing well on my own even though I'm good. Yesterday I was real good. Enough rambling-Joanne, Meme, Anne-please recover quickly. Mima

MemeToo 01-02-2003 09:29 AM

Mima...sorry about the mix up in threads. I don't ever go look at the forum entry. We had gone to page 4 and I thought it was time. A lot of us don't go to the forum entry so next time you post a new thread, be sure to make the last post on the old thread say there is a new one or we'll never find it! :p

It is supposed to snow here tonight so I'm hurting really bad. I have Ross again today. He is so hooked on his new Play Station 2 that he got for Christmas, I can't get him away from it long enough to eat!

I have a 12 Self-Improvement Program online if any of you care to read it:
http://www.design-max.net/12weekhome.html
I followed it as I wrote it the last 12 weeks in 1999 and it really helped me get (and stay) on track. I got more organizing done that 12 weeks than I have my whole married life! Plus, I lost 15 pounds and felt better. That's why I've "resurrected" it now. I plan on doing it the first 12 weeks this year. If you decide to do it, let me know.

Hope everyone is feeling better. Anagram's hubby, Anne's foot (and hubby's cold) , Joanne's virus amd Mima's cold...my aren't we a sick bunch? Hey, Candice...what's amatter wid you? :D Bound to be something!!! Hi to everybody else and hope your new year has started well!

Ally...now that's a good way to rid the house of junk...just eat it all!!!

Joanne D 01-02-2003 10:54 AM

Hey There

I hope whoever sends the emails to us doesn't get confused. We will have to be careful till we get to 84:dizzy:
The cold was bad enough now I have a flareup in my foot and can hardly walk. What a lousy begining of the new year!!At least I can just sit as much as I want with a good excuse.
Glad to hear from you Anagram.
Ally- That is the best way I know to get rid of the candy. I didn't buy candy this year. I made up for it in pies!!O well they are gone now.
Mima- the weather should be good when you get to Fl.
Bye..Joanne

Effenbee 01-02-2003 07:51 PM

Hi MEME: Might try that 12-week program. Looked at it and it sure looked good.

Freddie

Hi guys-Meme, that program sounds real good. I guess I could do week one easily-I put a lot of carbs into my mouth and I spend too much time p[laying solitaire on the computer. It's already starting to snow and we are suppossed to get a foot-spoiled my walking plans with my aunt and I needed to go to the credit union for the loan for the truck-Yesterday, it took 45 minutes to unfreeze my car from the ice-I'M READY FOR FLORIDA!!!!I can't remember when we have had so much snow so fast but than I went to FL in Jan. I keep pushing for more time next year-as it is, we are going twice. Ate some stuff last night-the scale hasn't moved and I'm discouraged and I get the hungry horrors in the pm. Gotta call the credit union-bye for now. Mima

MemeToo 01-03-2003 09:38 AM

Freddie...I hope you benefit from the program! I know I have, and hope to again this year. I did it in 1999 and then again the first part of 2001. It is good to do anytime of year or even all year long!!!

Mima...I can relate about eating in the PM...that's my biggest problem, too. That and carbs! But I'm slowly getting back on track. I gained a few pounds over the holidays but I can take them back off in a couple of weeks if I'm careful.

The gist of the plan is to just take small steps and not bite of more than you can chew (not a good simile...huh!) It took small steps to get to where we are today and the only way we will reach our goals is to take small steps to where we WANT TO BE tomorrow! That's another problem I have...I want the weight to drop off in a couple of weeks...I don't want to go slow!!! :p But I actually do better if I just making a few changes each week.

We didn't get much snow here, just enough to make it yucky outside! I'm hurting really bad...I have Ross and I have an appointment at 2 PM. I promised him I'd take him to Burger King first for lunch...I'll have to really be careful what I eat there! (STAYING OUT OF McDONALD'S!!!) I told hubby last night that we were going to have to stop eating out so much. I can't lose weight when we eat out so much, plus it costs a fortune! I could almost take what we spend eating out and make a car payment!!! So...that is one of my resolutions this year...eat at home more! (NOT EAT MORE AT HOME!!!) Besides losing weight and slowing down a little I'm pretty much going to do the 12 week program and take it one day at a time...then I'll see where I'm at the first of April...I may need to change some goals or something by then.

I DREAD TODAY...DON'T WANT TO GO OUT IN THIS MESS!!! WISH I COULD JUST GO BACK TO BED!

Happy Canuk 01-03-2003 05:31 PM

Hello all

Where the heck is Candice. Did she stop eating all together now?

Meme - Dieting is hard when you eat out a lot - unless you do like the kid from Subway:lol: He has also made a lot of money out of that one.

That program sounds good. Might give it a try as well.

Mima - I think my winter moved south:lol: It is over 40F here today, and the snow is melting - what little we have of it. The problem is, that here in Canada, we are really prepared for cold weather and bad weather. We have all the snow removal equipment just waiting to jump into action. They have not had to clear the streets once this winter - that in itself is amazing. They have had to sand and salt the roads a couple of times, however. We will all forget how to drive in the winter if this continues.

I am busy today, taking down Christmas. Now for the real work, of cleaning - again. I just came back from the Mall, as I wanted to pick up some Christmas cards and stuff for next year. Good deals out there right now. It's funny how all the Christmas stuff looks so nice a fresh in the fall when they put it out, and a few months later, it looked tired.

Joanne, Ally, Anagram, Marlene and other readers - have a good day.:)

MemeToo 01-03-2003 06:11 PM

Kind of like me...except I looked tired in the fall, too!!!

Where the heck are YOU??? Candice reported in about 5 this morning...you must be in a fibro fog like me!!! :p

Mima 01-04-2003 07:40 AM

Hi-Thanks Anne-there is a foot of snow on my car etc. I had to thaw out my trunk yesterday so we could put stuff in it. Used the hair dryer and 2 pots of hot water but it is probably stuck again . Hubby is going out to snowblow right now. What a winter-worst I can remember. I gave up counting pts. I'll be good while I'm gone and then go to WW or something. CARBS!My downfall. Eating out is bad-I had a tuna sandwich out and it was 11 pts and at home it would be 5. At least the grilled chicken would have been 9.That's what is bad about traveling but I did pack some stuff. We are leaving early tomorrow and I'm doing the first hour cuz it's near. Then we'll see, WE HAVE NO DEADLINES! Bye for now-packing the computer later. Mima

MemeToo 01-04-2003 03:20 PM

I FINALLY RENTED THE TRAILER!!! THANK GOODNESS!!! At least now I won't have 2 electric and gas bills! We are still going to pay the water but that's included in the rent. I rented it to 2 girls who are going to TN Tech. They are moving out on their own...first time away from Mom and Dad for both. They said this was the cleanest and safest place they had looked at. They liked the idea that hubby's bedroom window is only about 100 feet from one end of the mobile home...he can be there (shotgun in hand) in about 2 minutes if they have a prowler. I think they are a little afraid...being on their own!!!

Boy is it ever cold here today! No snow, though. We had a light dusting yesterday morning and then a little more last night but it's all gone now. Hubby and son is outside 'shooting'! They are target practicing...skeet. #1 son is going on a hunting trip in a couple of weeks.

I'm trying to get my decorations put away and some housework done. It never ends!

Hope you have a good trip down, Mima...be careful driving in all that snow...and hope the weather is good for you while you are there. Wish we were all going with you!!! Wouldn't that be a hoot! ('Course...you hubby might not like that!) :dizzy:

Anne...I don't think I could eat subways every day! :p

Ally0306 01-04-2003 03:54 PM

I just love that Jared from the subway commercials. Bet he will never have to work again.
Meme...what happened to the guy you had renting?
Candice....Thanks for the links. I heard so many people talking about that Oprah show. I heard her recently talking about not eating white food.....sugar, bread, potatoes, pasta. I try for that too. Good thing I got rid of all that white sugar.
Happy...how is your foot?
Anagram, Mima, Joanne, Freddie and whoever else I am forgetting.....hope all is going well. I will check in after I check in with Oprah and get rejuvenated.

Me the old haggggggg................Christmas Eve Pciture 02

Candicej 01-05-2003 08:09 AM

Did very well eating the past two days no cookies!:D

anagram 01-05-2003 08:52 AM

Good morning, all! First semiquiet day here in a long while. No doctors to visit, no dialysis, no snowstorms, even went to church last night. So have some music on, scanned the paper (will read it this afternoon when I want to take a nap - usually works).

Dh is going to have his second shower (modified), I have one gift to return yet and another little trip to take to WalMart. May do last two tomorrow while he's in dialysis. Only possible thing on schedule is a stopin from neighborhood friend and hubby to see dh. Aaaaaah!

Have not been doing well foodwise since just after Christmas when several people brought cookies, etc. However, I think I have cleaned out all of the homemade ones now (via the anagram disposal) and am prepared to start yet again tomorrow. I disappointed me a bit yesterday after a good op day. When evening came, I was tired and headachy and did more than my share of emotional eating.

this is the week I'm looking for things just to get to normal a bit more. Have all Christmas things down but three. By down, I mean in the basement waiting to be packed up. Fortunately, I didn't get a lot out this year. But repacking will still be a chore as I want to redo some and sort out. Plus have a few new things to add. Hoping also by week's end to have dh's recovery room (aka our family room) restored to normal. He came upstairs to bed for the first time last night but was back down in a few hours as he's still having trouble sleeping.

We'd have been in FL by now - SIGH!!!! However, it's just great to have him here and recovering. I always think I'd get a lot more organized if I were here in Jan/Feb. We'll see ......

Hope everyone is feeling warm and cozy and all set for a great year.

anagram 01-05-2003 08:58 AM

Love the Christmas pic, ole hag! I should look so good.

Ally, I like that Jared too. If somebody put the subs in front of me, right now I think I could do it but he walked to get them for exercise. Also I did read that his dad is a doc and monitored him medically every week. But you're right about the financial end. What a way to start out!

Bet the girls' families are happy with their "digs", too, Meme.

notlookingback 01-05-2003 10:16 AM

Joanne D 01-05-2003 11:00 AM

Hey There

It looks like everyone is winding down from Christmas. I finally have my Holiday stuff put away too. I have pretty good with my eating the past few days. I am back to writing down everything and got on the scale this AM. I didn't do so bad afterall. I may be learning what not to buy. I do still have a lot of chips and crackers in the shelves. It is a challenge to resist them.I haven't started walking but my foot is not good enought yet. Arthritis is not fun. I am doing some crafts and reading which I enjoy more.
Candice =Who calls you an old hag? I don't think so! You worry too much. We must have something in common.
Meme- Sounds like you have become a foster mother for the girls. Good for them. When they took the step to try it on their own,it was good they found you. Hope they don't become too dependent.
Anagram- I hope you are staying warm.. It sounds like your hubby is doing ok. It is cool here today. We need a few cold days. It keeps the bugs that don't get into the house down to a level . We have these little lizzards outside. My hubby protects them as they do a job for us eating the bugs. I have lived in Fl. all my life and still don't want them in the house. You will get to Fl. when he gets better
Bye- Joanne
Hello Ally, Mima, Happy. and anyone I missed.

notlookingback 01-05-2003 11:29 AM

joanne u forgot me:( but happy new year to u and ur family too
my foot and leg that i had a total knee surgery is bothering me these past few days and the arthritis is killing me too but i know the weather has something to do with it
hey i just signed up for the yahoo groups and will be marlena1948 in there has anyone else joined the groups for the 3fc?

anagram 01-05-2003 11:38 AM

Amen on the arthritis thing, the storms coming through on such a routine basis make it hard to get un-achy. Through all this running, etc. my knee replacements have held up and not hurt too much. I'm so glad I had them done before this as I'm not sure how I'd have managed.

Joanne, when is your daughter's surgery scheduled? Are you still planning on yours after that? Or still up in the air?

Marlene, when did you have your knee surgery? It can take so long to feel "normal" again.

notlookingback 01-05-2003 02:26 PM

i had a total knee replacement last summer in 2001 the knee is fine but the ligaments around it kill me plus every once in a while my artifical knee gives out on me does urs do that? i am trying to hold off on getting the other one done cause of it being so painful afterwards.......................................i ts snowing here

MemeToo 01-05-2003 05:04 PM

I work, I eat, I sleep and then I work some more. I'm tired!

Finally got everything packed up and put away...just don't open the closet door in the basement until next Christmas!!!

Knee replacement...UGH...don't want any! My DRs. are threatening but I'm waiting as long as I can! Had surgery on both already...don't want replacements!

We need to have a convention...the 'Foot and Knee Disease Convention'...PLUS ONE OLD HAG!

Ally0306 01-05-2003 05:39 PM

Candice...You look just like a friend of mine who is in her early 30's. Really.
OK...I checked out the Oprah site. I knew she was doing some major working out. I guess she doesn't have fibro. I do some of the lifting with ten pound weights. She uses 50 lbs. Ouch.
Plus she has the luxury of probably having a gym in her home and in the studio. I have a hard time fitting in a half hour a day on the treadmill.
Well, I am still avoiding the sugar but I am not sroping weight cause I am eating anything that isn't sugar:(
Gotta go feed the boys.

Joanne D 01-05-2003 07:19 PM

Hey There

Marlene- Sorry I missed you. Happy New Year. I have had one knee replacement and you are right the pain after is bad.
Anagram -My daughter is having her surgery somewhere in the middle of this month.I will probably know the date in a couple days. It will most likely be a partial hysterectomy but that will be decided at the time of surgery. My Dr. wants me to wait on my other knee untill it is as bad as it can get. I somewhat agree as of now it is still managable with the pain pills ,which I don't take unless I have to) and the injections. The after surgery pain is awful.I wear a knee brace when I go out ,just in case it decides to slip out on me. It hasn't been doing that as bad lately for some reason. I have been praying for assistance and maybe that is why.
Ally- I say Opra on TV today and she does look good. She should. The last I read she makes in the neighborhood of 38million+ a year and counting. She can offord several gyms .
Bye you all...Joanne

Happy Canuk 01-05-2003 07:37 PM

Hi Fibropals

Started to write this yesterday, and then it all went to cyberheaven and I didn't feel like starting it all over.

Candice - loooooooking gooooood:lol: Glad you tamed the cookie monster.

Mima - I think you are now gone, but wanted to wish you a safe journey. Have a good time.

Joanne - Hello. How cold is cold? It is in the 40's here and that is warm:lol We have a little bit of snow that came last weekend, but it is slowly melting. This sure isn't a typical winter in Alberta.

Meme - you will become a Den Mother next. Just don't let them use you as a surrogate mom. You have enough to do.

Ally - Get on Atkins or a low carb diet. They have now found that it the best way to control Cholestrol, blood pressure and blood sugar. Atkins was right along. They are still doing trials on this diet, but they are finding quite a few good things. As a matter of fact, my own Dr. recommends it. This gets rid of the cravings as well as the fact that you are NEVER hungry. It has been in the news lots lately. The Atkins Clinic is in New York.

Marlene - chalk up those miles! As soon as I get this cast off, I will hopefully be able to join you.

Anagram - so glad that things are returning slowly to normal for you. What a time you have had. I don't blame you for turning to the comfort of food when you are so stressed and tired.

I finally got Christmas put away for another year. Yesterday, I polished all the furniture and cleaned all the glass in the cabinets. Mirrors, chrome, bathrooms, are all sparkling. Last night, my cousin and her hubby came over for our traditional Irish Coffee. Had 3, and then I ate some little appetizers. They were really good - Filo Pastry wraped around Brie cheese with cranberries. Almost like dessert. Anyway, I had to much cream, and cheese, can irish whiskey. I woke up at 1:00 with indigestion and couldn't go back to sleep until 5:00 a.m. Did you know that there is NOTHING on TV in the middle of the night, except horror stuff? What a rip. I was way to tired to read. The FM had kicked in, and the muscles in the sternum were giving me BIG problems as well - felt like I couldn't get enough air. It has been behaving for several months. See what happens when you are bad?

Anyway, I wish everyone a Health, Happy, Peaceful New Year.

notlookingback 01-05-2003 07:37 PM

JOanne, i will keep ur daughter in my prayers how old is she? i hope everything goes ok with her ........................................
my aunt who is 76 had both of her knees done at one time i would never do that that pain is so unreal it took me at least 8 weeks to get rid of the awlful pain now it is pretty good but like u i am afraid of falling...that is one thing i don't want to happen and now we have 3"of snow which fell today and i wonder how much of it will freeze for tomorrow morning as i go to work by 7am oh well i will worry about that then
have a good evening

notlookingback 01-05-2003 07:41 PM

Happy Canuck, guess what happened to me today? i wore my pedometer for the 1st time to the grocery store and when i got home and remembered to check it it was gone i don't know where i lost it and i am so upset it cost me 17 dollars now i will have to look in the car in the am and if i don't find it i will write a email to where i bought it and maybe they will feel sorry for me and send me another at least i hope so oh well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anagram 01-05-2003 08:08 PM

Too bad about the pedometer, Marlene, when you had waited for it so anxiously. I would mention the fastener not being sufficient in my e-mail, for sure. But hope it's in the car. Or the store.

I had my first knee done in July of 1998 and my second one in May of 2001. I can't imagine how people have two done at one time but they do. I have a problem taking the really good pain meds and so have to deal with the pain on basically Tylenol until I could get back on anti-inflammatories. But I'm also stubborn and made myself do all the p.t. and stuff. My first one still bothers me occasionally but the second one went much better - I think that it was certainly bad but didn't seem to have done as much damage. Same surgeon did both.

We have the snow today too but I think this time you got more. (I live near Harrisburg.) Sweet young neighbor came over and cleared driveway. (and brought homemade pea soup, one of my favorites.)

Ally, with growing boys in the house it's amazing you have anything left to eat. It seemed I was always hauling groceries in when my son (and friends) were in their teens.

Happy, the Irish Coffee sounds ALMOST worth it. Hope you're better.

I too will keep you and daughter in my prayers, Joanne. And yes, I guess if you can still stand the pain..... My surgeon had told me he'd do it when I came in with tears in my eyes fromt he pain. He has the same problem so he's understanding about the whole thing. I asked him who was going to do his replacement when the time comes and he said if he could he'd do it himself. How he can stand for all the surgeries, I wonder. He said it's bad but then he said not being able to go to the bathroom is worse. He keeps me in good spirits and I try to do the same for him.

Meme, your first sentence describes me perfectly. (I work, I eat....)

Busy day tomorrow. Dh to cardiologist, then to dialysis. Today was a blessed break - so peacefully unbusy.

Happy Canuk 01-05-2003 10:15 PM

Fighting Fibromyalgia

This diet also applies to those with arthritis. Worth a read, make some changes in your diet, and see what happens.

The Doctor Says (Zoltan Rona)

FIGHTING FIBROMYALGIA

Natural help to reverse chronic pain

It is estimated that between three and six million people in Canada and US suffer from FM. Of these people, about 80 percent are women between the ages of 20-50. This chronic illness accounts for more than five percent of a Doctor's practice and, for the most part, leaves the medical profession perplexed.

When I started in general practic in 1978, FM was a rare condition, perhaps worthy of a footnote in large medical texts but of little or no concern to most medical practitioners. In the mid 1980's, however, this changed dramatically. Doctors began seeing an ever-growing number of people with multiple, non specific complaints.

Initially, medical experts, who could find no evidence of bacterial, viral or other infection, theorized that this was a psychiatric illness,a form of depression. To this day, many doctors still believe that FMS is "in your head".

IT'S NOT ALL IN YOUR HEAD

The good news is that scientists are making advances in both diagnoisis and treatment, mostl in the field of natural(complementary integrative medicine. FM is reversible if you follow a step-by-step approach using diet changes and other nutritional or biochemical balancing techniques. Regardless of what you have been told by the more pessimistic members of the medical profession, you can now take advantage of some of the latest advancements and return to a normal or optimal state of health without taking dangerous drugs. Convention medicine offers no cure for FMS; however, many natural strategies and treatments do. All it takes in most cases is for people to become informed and take the initiative.

TIRED AND HURT ALL OVER?

FM is a syndrome, meaning that it involves the presence of many different signs and symptoms. People who suffer from FMS do not share the same signs and symptoms equally, but most complain that they "hurt all over". And nearly 100 percent of FMS victims report that they had some type of life event of life stressor just prior to the onset of the chronic pain.

Most FMS patients are not hypochondriacs or whiners but are suffering from demonstrable phycial and mental dysfunction associated with disturbed sleep pattern and immune system abnormalities. The usual complaints of those suffering from FMS:aching and stiffness with multiple points of tenderness in numerous muscle groups, pain at multiple sites, fatigue, headache, depression, anxiety, paresthesia (numbness and tingling), irritable bowels and poor sleep patterns.

The condition is predominantly characterized by a consistent patternof non-restorative or non-refreshing sleep - a sleep abnormality that is generally not a feature of other musculoskeletal diseases. A lack of refreshing sleep may be the major determining factor in the severity of FMS pain and cognitive impairments. And, indeed, a lack of non-restorative deep sleep is a prevailing characteristic of FMS. It is, after all, sleep that allows damaged muscles and an over-stressed nervous system to recover, renew and regenerate. Studies indicate that anything done to improve sleep in victims of FMS improves and, in some cases, even reverses the condtion altogether.

WHAT CAUSES FMS?

Evidence is now accumulating that FMS is primarily a disorder of the immune system. The type of immune system disorder involved fits the categary know as autoimmune disease.

An autoimmune disease is defined as one in which the body's immunes system starts making antibodies against its own tissues or organs. In a normal state of health, the immune system recognizes the body's organs as native, or a part of self: It does not attack them in any way. A healthy immune system only attacks foreign invaders (e.g. bacteria, viruses, parasites) or tissues (cancercells). When the immune system attacks normal, healthy tissues and organs (self), it is defined as an sutoimmune reaction. There are many other theories and possible contributing factors including leaky gut syndrome, a "sick" mitochondria and high levels of vitamin P.

THE FMS DIET
Diet is of particular importance to anyone suffering from a chronic illness such as FMS. The best nutritional program to follow for those who suffer from FMS is a hypoallergenic diet. Ideally this is established on an individualized basis with the use of food allergy testing as well as other biochemical tests done through a natural health care provider.

Use organic foods whenever possible to avoid the deleterious effects of pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and genetically engineered foods. I do not recommend the use of genetically engineered foods simply because they have not been proben to be safe. If you do not already read food labels, now is the time to start. Avoid items containing saturated fats, sugar and additives.

The importance of giving up caffeine entirely cannot be stressed enough. For those with FMS, cutting down on caffeine doesn't just improve sleep; it also prevents low blood sugar levels, anxiety, irritability and the loss of trace minerals due to the diurteic effects of caffeine. It must be given up entirely. The best way to get off the caffeine is to just stop.

Suggested Foods and Beverages (provided you are not allergic to them)

Carotene-containing foods such as sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, cantaloupe, kale, squash, and pumpkin
Rice cakes, rice cereals, rice bread, and rice crackers. Rice is generally a very good alternative to wheat and provides many nutrients.
Vitamin C and antioidant-containing foods, such as grapefruit, broccoli, strawberries, melons, brussel spouts and cabbage.
Berries of all kinds, expecially the European Blueberry (a.k.a. Bilberry), are rich in bioflavonoids.
Grapefruit provides a mighty force in protecting against allergies, inflammation, infection and cancer.
Broccoli, brussel sprouts and cabbages may not be your favourite foods, but your body will love them. Along with relatives such as Kale, rutabaga and mustard greens, these vegetables help with liver detoxification.
Buckwheat, quinio or rice pasts. These grain alternatives are very low in gluten and are generally better tolerated by people with distrubed immunity.
All fresh fruits EXCEPT lemons, limes, oranges and fried fruits (these are usually highly concentrated in fruit sugar)
Lamb, poulty, fish and seafood. These foods are high in protein and are helpful in healing parasitic infestations. They must be well cooked.
Organic fruit juices (freshly juiced) except for orange, lemon, lime and any sweetened juice.
Spring water, rice or almond milk
Small amounts of nuts. Avoid peanuts and cashews, which are contaminated with mould.
Sunflower and Pumpkin seeds. These are an excellent source of essential fatty acids and trace minerals such as zinc.
Beans, lentils and dried pears are a rich source of protein, iron and calcium
Pure, filtered or ozonated water.

COMMON ALLERGENIC FOODS TO AVOID

Wheat and other gluten-containing grains (barley, oats, rye, spelt, amaranth, millet and kamut)
Milk and dairy products
Eggs
Sugar in any form weakens the immune systen and encourages the growth of bacteria, fungi, yeast and parasites. STEVIA is a good alternative to sugar.
Artificial sweeteners. Aspartame should be voided at all costs, because it has been found to worsen some of the mental/neurological signs and symptoms of FMS.
Alcoholic beverages. Even "moderate" alcohol consumption is a problem because many with FMS have weak liver enzyme detoxification systems.
Caffeine (coffee, regual tea, colas, chocolates)
soft drinks
tap water
All foods containing artificial flavourings, additives and preservatives.
Beef, pork, cold cuts, fried foods and salty foods
Nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and eggplant)
Coconuts
Tropical fruit (bananas, pineapples, melons, papayas, mangoes, guava,p assion fruit, kiwi). These fruits have a high sugar and mould content.

THERE IS HOPE

Fibromyalgia Syndrome is a reversible condition. Attention to diet, along with a protocol of nutritional supplements, herbs and exercise will bring recovery. I highly recommend seeking the help of a naturopathic doctor. The time frame for recovery varies from person to person, but all can expect to see some improvement in their symptoms in three to five weeks. A full recovery for most may take from six to 12 months, with those under the age of 45 having the quickest response to natural therapies.

Hey There

Happy- It is cold to me when it hits 60:lol: It is supposed to get to the 30's sometime this week. We are on the gulf so it might not get that low.
Marlene- My daughter is46.She has always been active. She is a teacher and every little kid with a snotty nose that she passes gives her a cold but that is par for the course. I had the same problem when I was 38 and had the same surgery. My niece had the same surgery a few months ago.It seems to hit all the girls in this family at one time or other.
Ally -I don't know about you but I would find it hard to cut out all my carbs. I tried it once and ended up sick. I think I am going to try and just cut them down. I have been watching my points for a week and no success.I have stayed on the low end with the exception of one day and I had enough banked it should not have mattered.
What do you think Candice..You seem to have such good success?
Got to get the wash done ..see you all later...Joanne

Good morning

Meme - I watched Dr. Atkins last night. The more I read and hear, the more convinced that his diet is the healthiest. I am back on track, and the fatigue has gone. Had to go visit my friendly chiro yesterday. Having to have this cast on throws out my lower back. Maybe just a week or two longer.

Candice - your pictures were good. Saw a little slide show. Where was your Christmas tree?

Marlene - sure glad they are sending you another pedometer. That is really nice. Now, I guess the trick is, to use it. I have one laying in my drawer:lol:

Joanne - I hope your daughter will be fine. I had a hysterectomy when I was only 33. They did leave the ovaries. My daughter had to have one of her ovaries removed when she was 33 - ovarian cyst. Hope you are feeling good.

Anagram - I am so glad that things are going along better for you. Perhaps this year will be better for your hubby.

I believe I am going to go shopping. It is nice and warm here (up in the 40's and no snow on the roads, so it sounds like a good idea to me. Better go check out some of the sales:lol:

Everyone have a great day.
