Fibromyalgia #79

Hope everyone makes it over to the new thread!

I think I'm addicted to shrimp...just got through eating 20 jumbo!

It's supposed to snow today... not a lot ... just enough to make me hurt! Gotta go clean some more ... only have 2 1/2 hrs. 'till time to start teaching again.

Joanne D 11-26-2002 06:48 PM

Hey There

WOW! Meme...You went on a shrimp BingeThere isn't all that many cal. in shrimp . I hope you enjoyed them.. I seldom buy shrimp although we really like them. They are expensive and have a lot of colesterol in them.
Bye.Joanne

anagram 11-26-2002 08:29 PM

Supposed to snow here tonight too. Hopefully nothing major. Dh and I did a lot of running today so plan to be homebodies most of tomorrow before we take off Thursday. Will be back Friday, son and wife coming Sat for Dh's birthday, leaving Sunday. Dh's brother stopping in Monday briefly on his return trip from son's in CT. He and wife were here for dinner last night en route north. Feeding people with such disparate tastes and with some medical limitations in some cases is just getting to be too tough. On dh's regimen, I no longer keep all sorts of things here. So sometimes these visits mean major grocery shopping. I used to always be well supplied for sudden guests but no more esp. right now as we're working down the larder before we leave for FL

I don't buy gifts for a crew of people any more. Really basically only the two kids and spouses, the grandkids, dh and my mother. A few people I give baked goods, sometimes a nominal exchange with my three sisters. These are usually a little item we see on sale real cheap and some of us do it when the mood strikes us and other years not. Very casual. It's more the idea of it being "right", something we figure we'd all like and definitely on sale.

So I have a start (grandkids are done - where else would I start?). I have one gift each for three of the kids and spouses. However, I usually get them three each. This year I'm cutting back to two each (and sometimes one is a shared couple gift). So I've done a little shopping, a little baking, and some cards. Plus dh and dd have birthdays between now and Christmas. I think I'd better hustle.

Candicej 11-27-2002 02:39 AM

Yummmm..dh brought home some cashews tonight and I had some..love my nuts! Well..I'm outta here for now...talk to ya when I get back! Behave girls

I had shrimp tonight too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't get a lot of snow. Some still on grass, trees.

Busy day, of course. But I weighed in today and lost 1.2 since last week. this means I've finally lost 10% of starting body weight and my BMI has gone from a 43 to under 39.

Tried on some 18s last night and got in them at least. A few more pounds and I'll be again in the misses sizes. I somehow seem to have missed 20s on the way up - maybe I can skip them on the way down.

Don't want to buy much just for Dec and I have some things for FL that are just waiting for me to dig them out. Won't mind buying summer things as I'll wear them a lot longer, I'm sure.

Anyway, hope all (including our Canadian friends) have a great day tomorrow and a good weekend. Cya next week.

Happy Canuk 11-27-2002 10:29 AM

Happy Thanksgiving, Fibropals

Well, I sure hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. Ymmm, I can taste the turkey, dressing and pumpkin pie. I hope that you all arrive at your destinations safely.

We are having a most unusual day today - for the end of November! It is going into the high 50's or low 60's. I have to get of the house today, and enjoy it. Tomorrow, we could be 20 below:lol: It really does change that fast here!

Everyone maintain at least. Anagram, good going on that loss!

Meme - I like shrimp, but I think I must have an allergy to it, because everytime I eat it, I get all stuffed up.

Have yourselves a great few days here - hopefully pain free!

Joanne D 11-28-2002 10:35 AM

Hey There

Happy- Thank You and I hope you will have a nice day also..I cooked most of the day yesterday..About time for a supper I thought I was done for the day. I reached up in shelf to get a dish to put some dressing in to put away. A glass top came crashing down ,breaking and spraying glass everywhere. Needless to say . The pot of dressing went into the trash. So I had to start all over again from scratch.. What a day. I was in bed with a pain pill and the heating pad by 9 pm.Nothing dramatic should happen today.. I hope.. There will be just 3 of us for dinner. For one of the first times ,I invited no extra people for a Holiday. There will be a lot of leftovers..

I hope all of my friends will have a" GREAT THANKSGIVING."
Anagram - what part of Florida are you coming to?I live on the west coast. I am with you..I hit the sales and sale racks first. I also am trying to cut back on the amount of gifts.
Does any of you have Msm? I just had a great conversation with my daughter and It was free..
Bye:angel:
Joanne

melissa in nc 12-01-2002 08:20 PM

Hello everyone,
I hope it is ok for me to post here. I to have fibro. And to tell you the truth it is so hard on me.

I will tell you a little about my self. I a 30 year old mom of three children. Savannah age 7, Maddison age 5 and my angel boy David age almost 6 months. I call him my angel boy because I had gallbladder surgery in Sept. of last year and 10 days later we found out about me being 6 weeks preg. with David. they did an o/s to see if he was ok and they found a mass 10 cm on my ovary well in Jan of this year I had to have surgery to have the ovary removed ( I was 5 months preg then) . He made it through all the surgery and he was the reason they found the mass. He was 2+ weeks late and weighed 10 pounds 3 oz when he was born.
and I also graduated from college with honors when I was 9 months preg.

my fibro was not so bad when I was preg. however in the winter time it gets more painful. so you all get like that to???

How so you all cope with the pain and tiredness of fibro??

Hope to get to know you all better

Melissa

MemeToo 12-02-2002 12:54 AM

Hi Melissa... some days you DON'T cope. You just try to make it through the day! Sounds like you have been through a lot in the last year! The stress of all that would make the fibro symptoms much worse and the stress of caring for the baby will make it worse, too. Just the bending, changing, holding, rocking and feeding of an infant. I know...I have 4 grandchildren ages 3 to 7 that I have helped take care of (A LOT) in the past 7 years and it has taken it's toll on me! But...let me be the first to welcome you to the fibro board...I know Ally will be glad to have you...she won't have to be called the 'baby' anymore! (You are now the youngest one here!) What part of NC are you from? I live in TN but all my people live NC.

Joanne...I resemble that remark...about gaining 5 pounds. We will just have to take it off between now and Christmas...plus a couple of extra pounds for good measure!

Hey...Marlene...YOU CAN DO THIS! Just for one week!!! Use your pass at WW this time but lets get back on the wagon this week and see if we can't lose a whole bunch next week!!! DEAL?

ALLY...PUT THE LEFTOVERS DOWN AND STEP AWAY FROM THE REFIGERATOR!

On December 9th I hope to get a good weight lossreport from everyone on the board! Even YOU, Candice! (For those of you who don't know...Candice is skinny!

Joanne D 12-02-2002 09:44 AM

Hey There

Welcome Melissa- Good for you.. With all the physical problems a new baby and finishing school all in one year It is no wonder you are not up to par. You are young and with a little work you will be able to get your good health back soon. Keep a possitive attitude. We have a great group here.
Meme-2 lbs down this morning . It must be fluid. I am trying to be careful. I tasted too much. I think the rest of the turkey is going to the trash can. 5 days in the fridge I think is long enough. I should have frozen some of it.
Notlooking back- save your free pass and face it. It will make you more aware. I know how hard it is to get back on the scale. It took me 30 years to lose the fat. I joined WW at least 10 times and it might have been more,I forget.I no longer go to meetings, but, my scale is the first thing I see in the morning. You can do this!!
Hello Happy, Memi, Candice ,Anagram,Ally, and anyone that I missed. Joanne

notlookingback 12-02-2002 10:20 AM

thanks Joanne, i got on the scale this morning and am up at least 2lbs i ate and ate and ate one thing that is good for sure my husband is going back on afternoon shift 3:30 to midnight and he won't be home saying lets have ice cream or chips or i'm hungry and i can concentrate on my diet again i have to do it i almost gave up last week when once again i stayed the same but i am not going to give in to it i am just NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
welcome Melissa this is a good group and i just wish we could all meet someday in person wouldn't that be a hoot..... keep in touch ladies.......

Happy Canuk 12-02-2002 12:05 PM

Hi

Gosh, it seems like a while since I was here. Getting absent minded, I think:lol: hmm, or is the fibro minded?

Blondie, glad you decided to join us.

Welcome to you as well Melissa. You have had a busy time of it and probably more stress than your poor body needed. Perhaps, now you will be able to destress yourself. STRESS is the worst thing for us fibrogals. Brings on pain.

Joanne - good for you. Glad you lost those pounds you found.

Meme - Still going strong, I see. Now the push will be on for Christmas. I have decided NOT to do much baking this year. My kids want certain things baked, so I will bundle it up and give it to them. Otherwise, it will just go stale and into the garbage. I have to say, my cravings for sweets is gone. I am down 15 pounds, but it is sure slow going, but a lot better than ww was for me. I just don't feel the need to eat - I sometimes forget about it  That is sure a pleasant switch.

Marlene - Just stay with it. It will happen for both of us eventually. I think I have to start to walk if I can and see if that will help. I know I am not moving near enough. Don't feel badly about the gain - that happens to everyone and it will probably happen again at Christmas! January, February and March should be easier months for us.

Hi Anagram. How are things going with you?

Ally - you have two energetic kids - that is so good to hear. Better that they be active than sitting in front of the computer or the TV. Hey, did you know you're not the 'baby' any longer?

Candice and Mima - aren't you gals back yet? I hope you both had a good holiday.

Freddie - I hope you find your way back to us. Happy Haunakka.

notlookingback 12-02-2002 03:08 PM

i have a question??? what is fibromyalgia?? i often wondered and since i have been writing back and forth to u guys i think it would help me to understand ur pain as well as to trying to lose weight?
thanks

Happy Canuk 12-02-2002 06:04 PM

Hello

FM is PAIN, plain and simple. Like you have the flu, with all the aches and pains. They don't know what causes it and it bounces around the body like a rubber ball. You have to have pain in all 4 quadrants of the body to be diagnosed with FM. Also, fatigue is a big part of FM. Poor sleep. Someone else is going to come along and fill you in some more.

Pain is pain, and nobody ever experiences it quite the same way. I don't know what kind of pain others have, but I sure can empathize with them.

notlookingback 12-02-2002 06:16 PM

thank you, i have very poor sleep habits, and in loads of pain in my lower back, knees, toes and fingers but they tell me i am full of arthritis hmmmmmmmmmmmm
i know what pain is and i feel sorry for u guys. thanks i also have fatigue like if i don't do stuff in the am forget it i am beat the rest of the day......something to ask my doc about when i go next week............... i wish i could get back on track for losing weight i really got off track this past weekend.....

Happy Canuk 12-02-2002 06:40 PM

You'll be ok. Together, we will beat this darn weight. I know how frustrated you are, because I am right their beside you.

You should ask your Dr. about FM. He can test the 18 points and see how you do with the pressure on them. I also have arthritis and I know that is no picnic either. As I said, pain is pain, and the thing about it is, that is darn well hurts.

Keep your chin up.

MemeToo 12-02-2002 06:51 PM

FM is when you wake up in the morning and you feel like a Mac truck ran over your body sometime last night! Or...some kid inadvertently touches you somewhere and it sends a pain shooting all the way through to the other side. Or... you just can't THINK all of a sudden...you know what you were going to say or what you were going to do next but it just eludes you for the moment. FM is also bone marrow fatigue...you are tired all the way to the core! It also includes spactic colon... constipation (or diarrhea...depending on the day) and headaches. Arthritis and FM go hand in hand...I have 2 kinds of it.

Anne is right...pain IS pain...but FM pain is REALLY painful! But...you can learn to live with it (or maybe I should say "IN SPITE OF IT"!)

notlookingback 12-02-2002 07:16 PM

well i do have uclerated colitis, and i hate to be touched even by my son or the dog it bothers me i also had a bone marrow test done 2yrs ago now i am really wondering thanks for the in fo

notlookingback 12-02-2002 07:17 PM

Joanne D 12-02-2002 07:21 PM

Hey There

Notlookingback- If you put Fibromyalgia into your search like yahoo or any of the others you use it will take you to a health site and you can get a full explantion = basicly it is a common rheumatic syndrome with wide spread pain in fibrous tissues muscles ,tendons, and other connective tissues.Have you had a diagnosis yet...Your Doctor should have given you the materials on it...Joanne

notlookingback 12-02-2002 07:24 PM

anagram 12-03-2002 08:33 AM

Hi, Happy and all. Had about finished scanning all the posts I missed over the weekend and was almost ready to post a long answer or two. However, had to take dh to emergency last night at 10:00. i got home at 5:00 this a.m. He's in for observation. So I'm up for a quick shower and then back with some things for him. It seems to be kidney related.

Joanne, we go to South Daytona Beach. But looks like we're back on one-day-at-a-time so not really getting excited about that yet.

Meme, get all that shopping done? Good thing I was going like a bat outta Hades yesterday. But today, I'm behind already. None of it matters today though.

Hi, newbies. These ladies will be good for what ails you.

Freddie, how did your followup visits go?

And Mima, off enjoying that nice cruise, hope you have time to check in before you go off to work.

Best get me in gear and outta here.

Happy Canuk 12-03-2002 09:03 AM

Anagram, I hope all will be ok. What a bad time the two of you are having regarding hubby's health. Just try to sneak in a bit of rest for yourself. Did you say that you are finished your Christmas Shopping? I can't seem to get in the mood to do it! No snow, so it doesn't even feel like December out there , well except for today, because it is about 4 degress below zero. By tomorrow, it is going to start to warm up again and we should be basking in 40 degrees plus by the end of the week.

Well everybody, have a good day, eat well, and stay legal!

Joanne D 12-03-2002 09:32 AM

Hi

Anagram- I surely hope that things will go well with your hubby... ..Daytona ..I have been over there a couple times. I love the beaches . It is much busier there than on this side of Fl.
Happy- 4 degress amd I was cold at 45 yesterday.. Our blood is much thinner down here. I haven't done much to get my shopping done. I have no ideas about what to give . The G/ children will get money. My sister loves gift certificates so that is an idea. I am at a loss with my daughter and son. Oh Well.. Something will come to mind...
Hello Everyone...Joanne

blondiegirlme 12-03-2002 09:32 AM

Hi All, Hpoe everyone is doing well. Anagram I hope dh will be okay. All the best.
Happy Canuk, Snow!! well there is snow here. It went down to -18 last night, and -28 with the wind chill. The high today is going to be -8. I have started my x-mas shopping but not done yet. I have been having some flare ups from my Lupus the last couple of days. Joint pain as well as chest pain. Well can't let that stop me! MUST go on.
I have been doing well for two days on my eating, I hope i can continue. It's hard when you are in pain. I just want CHOCOLATE LOL I hope everyone else is doing well too. We can only help and support, We all must do this for our selves and health. Bye for now all!!!

notlookingback 12-03-2002 11:05 AM

its a deal i will use my free scale pass tonight and then that is it! i told my husband if i put anything else in my mouth this afternoon after lunch to yell at me yesterday all i did was eat and my stomach is so uncomfortable today...
sorry about ur husband and hope everything is better today and try and get some rest urself
i am here girls we can do this!!!!!!

melissa in nc 12-03-2002 07:14 PM

I hope you are all doing well.

How are you all losing weight? I really do not know what to try. I find it hard to find time to eat the way I know I should. and I know that is not good for me. With getting the girls ready for school getting David to the babysitters and me getting to school. I do not have much time.

I do try to walk when I can and drink water (however I love my diet drinks.) My Dr told me to do water workouts but how can I do that with 3 kids to take care of?

I eat when I am worried about stuff, which seems like all the time. I still do not know if I will have cancer or not. (let me explane that) The mass was borderline cancer and I have to go back in 6 months to see if anything has came back. they did a CT scan and blood work and will do that again in March.

So I can really use some advice on how to go about losing this weight.

Sorry this was so long.
Melissa
