The web site is www.shakeoffthesugar.net . The article to me was a typical anti-aspartame article -- nothing new or earth shattering. I personally have lost 122 pounds while drinking diet sodas, both with and without caffeine. Others may have a problem with artificial sweeteners -- clearly I don't. The way I look at it is -- I've given up so much else -- they'll have to pry diet soda from my cold, dead fingers!

Marlene -- I wish there was a "secret" to losing weight, because then I'd be rich, but there's not. For me, it was (and is) just like your mother always said -- diet and exercise. While I was losing (it took eleven months), I ate between 1200 -- 1600 calories per day (about 50% lean protein, 25% complex carbs, and 25% good fats). I'm currently eating around 1500/calories per day because I'm trying to nudge my body fat down to 12%. I do an hour of cardio per day (running, treadmill, elliptical trainer and/or bike) and lift weights (as heavy as possible) five to six days per week.

What I rarely (5 or 6 times in 18 months) do is cheat -- either planned or unplanned -- (some programs have built in "free days" or "cheat days") and I think the day-in, day-out consistency is a big part of my success, both physically and mentally.

Good luck! I tell everyone if I can do this, anyone can!

Default Hi

Notlookingback, I know how you feel. I started ww in February and went until June and I lost only 10 pounds!!!! I didn't cheat, just ate my points and less but it just wouldn't move. I gave up because it was costing a lot of money for nothing. I started the Atkins Diet 4 weeks ago, and I am down 12 pounds, but it also has come to a dead hault. I am on my way to get my thyroid tested. I sure answer yes to many questions regarding an underactive thyroid. Something is keeping me from getting rid of these pounds. I don't eat or drink anything with Aspartame. I have a real problem with that stuff. It actually makes me sick. I end up with a terrible headache and the "runs". I wish you luck and hope you find an answer.

Well, Meg, you have wonderfully well. My daughter has just lost about 80 pounds on ww. She joined the running room and the gym and works out all the time. I have arthritis in my lower back and Fibromyalgia and any exercise is try leaves me in so much pain - the muscles in my lower back go into spasams. I want to start walking, but I have an Achilles Tendon that is giving me so much trouble right now. I am 56 and with all this stuff, I don't have the energy to put up with the pain and the exercise. I do walk some, and will join the rec. center for a place to walk during the winter. I am motivated, but I get to mad when nothing happens. It is very discouraging. Marlene, I understand how you feel.

Default Hi

I'm sorry I forgot about this thread. I post on the Dieting with Fibromyalgia. Come and join us there. Not everyone has FM, and two of the ladies have bad knees. One has had two surgeries the other is going to have it done in the new year. I know we would love to have you. I finally lost 3 move pounds this week. I got some fluid pills from the Dr., as I knew I was retaining fluid. My wrist and hands really hurt and my ring was so tight I couldn't get it off. So, the pills are slowly getting rid of the fluid.

Hope to talk to you on our other thread.
