PHYSICAL CHALLENGES: Fall Chat Thread ...
 WELCOME EVERYONE ~ Please join us in our thread: to give support and encouragement; to share ideas, and/or just chat with one another about everyday issues ...
This special thread is for anyone with any kind of physical obstacle and/or challenge like SB, CP, MS, MD, PK, Lupus, Osteo, Arthritis, Rheumatism, or any other condition (s), whether genetic or acquired (like injuries), that causes some physical limitations and/or difficulties. We try to focus on the positive here -- not seeing ourselves as victims, but as victors and overcomers. It is so nice to be able to talk with others who have some idea of what we are going through each day! :book2: HAVE A FABULOUS FALL EVERYONE! :comp: |
Well, after a weekend that was scorching :hot: :hot: :hot: -- relief finally came in the form of :rain: for most of the day and we sure needed it. The :sunny: did finally come out in the late afternoon and we had a really pretty sunset that I took pics of this evening.
I hope all that rain made its way out to our lot as my trees and bushes sure needed some too. I am pretty sure that it did as the clouds seemed to be moving in that direction. Now the temps are cooling off for us tonight -- what a relief for us. We had the air conditioner and a dehumidifier and some fans going trying to cool this place off, and it finally worked. At times, it really felt like a sauna in here; we were sweating buckets. I used to love saunas when I was younger (well, for a little while anyways), but since I am now into my menopause years, the heat really bothers me now -- as I am already too hot! :yikes: I told DH that I feel like I'm burning hot from the inside, so when you add hot and sweaty from the outside, it feels terrible. What finally worked to cool me down was that first I had a shower, then I put a 3-4' floor fan on low blowing right at me, and that helped immensely. :D Tonight, we had BBQ spit chicken for dinner with cob on the corn & salad and a very small new potato -- a really nice way to start off the month. DH kept saying how much he loved it; a favorite of ours for sure. So we are supposed to have nice temps for the rest of the week; I picked another basket of beans the other day and I think after this rain, that I'll be able to pick some more tomorrow too. I go out and check every day now. Since they grow so well here and they are so expensive at the store, I'll be growing more of them next year. We checked for blueberries, but there weren't any this year; so we picked up some BC blueberries for a good price at the store yesterday. Nice to have some for the winter months too. Hope you all have a great week; take good care ... Rosebud  |
 Had a lovely day today; nice weather ... :sunny: with clouds and a nice breeze. Stayed in the mid+ 70's so it was really comfortable. We picked another half basket of green beans before we headed up to our lot. DH & my Dad replace half the rood on our camper so it could stand the weight of the snow come this winter; and to repair a bad leak it had as well.
I did some trimming around my apple trees; and my crab apples are very ripe and red. I had about 20 but I guess some birdies helped themselves to a few but that's OK. I am just so glad that they are doing so well and have apples on them already. We got home very late, so had leftover wg spagetti & meatballs that I had put in the freezer last week. Hope you all have a fabulous Friday tomorrow; it's supposed to be very nice here again. Take care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI LADIES ~hope you all are having a fab Friday night; we had a nicer day today with some :rain: then some :sunny: and then some :rain: again ... We even had some lovely RAINBOWS afterward as well (two of them).
Managed to get some extra walking in today as we had to go pay some bills; I usually pay them by mail but I had ran out of checks and had to order some -- so I had to go pay them in person and there is quite a walk into the place here. I also found some good books to read over the fall/winter at our local second-hand shop. We had homemade subs for our Friday Fun Meal tonight; used smaller whole grain buns with lean meats, nf cheeze, sliced tomato, and lots of lettuce. I did munch out a bit tonight, but thankfully I had such a light day that I stayed under my daily calorie allotment, so this will be a maintenance day. I don't mind that for one day a week, but I try to avoid it. Hope you all have a lovely LABOR DAY WEEKEND -- well, it's time to go put my tired feet up and maybe do some crocheting and/or reading too; so take care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Hi ladies!
I did my Zumba class Wednesday night. It is an hour and really works you out! I like my exercise to be dancing or walking. I never cared for running. I am not sure if I could even do running. Swimming would be good too but there isn't an indoor pool in my area for the winter (unless you sneak into a hotel). This week has been better with my kindergartner. She doesn't like school. I think it is because they are reviewing right now and she already knows the things they are reviewing. I did talk to some other mothers who have kindergarteners and they told me their kids are saying the same thing. Next week should be better because they will start having homework. Our school's first day was August 11. I hate that they start that early. There is a bill at our state that is trying to get them to start the last Monday in August. I don't have much planned for this weekend. We don't do anything special for Labor Day. Just hang out at home and take it easy. Have a good weekend and a great Labor Day! |
HI AUTUMN ~ wow, that is much earlier than here; our kiddies started back to school on Monday (August 30th). We used to start the first Monday of September if I recall correctly. Some other countries send the kiddies back to school earlier but give them time off at Christmas and other times instead.
We had :rain: for most of the day, so we just stayed home and mulled around here. A complete rest day except for meals and dishes and things like that. It was too wet to do anything outdoors. I spent some time on my pc this afternoon though. We had fish for dinner with baked homefries and salad. I made a pot of beef barley vegetable soup with some leftover roast beef; we will have the rest for our dinner tomorrow night. It is thick like a stew really. Have a super restful Sunday tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 We had a cold and wet weekend for the most part; except today -- we finally had some :sunny: come our way for the afternoon. That warmed the temps up to the 60's for us. We went up to our lot to visit my Dad & SM as they were returning back home (down south) today. We took up some BBQ spit chicken & salads for dinner and had a nice visit. I picked some more beans this afternoon and we had those with leftovers for our dinner tonight.
Now, I will put up my legs for a while and do some reading & crocheting; and have some Black Currant tea. Oh, our new double lawnchair just arrived; we had ordered it and the man just brought it over -- and it's really nice too! Have a good week everyone ... Rosebud :flow2: |
HI LADIES ~ we had :rain: here again today, but they are expecting some :sunny: at least one day this week ... we sure hope so. It was a bit colder today than yesterday becuz of a strong wind. Just had to dress up a bit warmer and we put another blanket on our bed too; although I think I will be sleeping in our livingroom tonight -- it's much quieter in there ...
I made a batch of healthy muffins today for our snacks; would be nice for a breakfast too. I found a recipe that calls for using frozen concentrated apple juice instead of sugar & fat; sounds like a good idea -- will have to try that next time for sure. We had a nice old family comfy food for dinner tonight; perfect for cold, wet days called "CREAMY MAC" but I put lots of veggies in my version. I cover the bottom of my bowl with green beans and top it with the creamy mac (macaroni in a mushroom cream sauce with mini=meatballs & veggies) to make it seem like so much more. This is very filling and yummy; and DH just loves it. I am having a nice hot cuppa green tea as we speak. Hope everyone over here is having a good week; take good care now ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 Well, the :sunny: has returned ... yeah! :carrot:
The temps even went up to 71 degrees today. We went out to our lot and had a nice quiet time out there. I did some tidying up; and even crocheted a couple of squares for the blanket pieces I am doing. DH did his own thing too. We were there kinda late and some buggies came out: probably from all that rain we had over the last week or so. We didn't get home until 8 pm and so had a very late Friday Fun Dinner at 9 pm. Just having a cuppa green tea right now; and it's time to go put my legs up and do some fun reading for a wee bit. Hope you all have a wonderful fall weekend; take good care now ... Rosebud :flow2: |
I am recovering from a cold that I have had all week. I had the sore throat and coughing and nose running. My nose was so sore yesterday. I am finally feeling better today. I ate off plan this week because of the cold. I didn't eat very much. So I will start again.
I missed Zumba this week and was bummed about that. I have such a good time when I do it. I love to dance. Rained a tiny bit here yesterday. We still need rain so badly. It is cloudy now but no rain in sight. Now all the farmers are in the fields harvesting. (I work for a agricultural dealer and my family farms). Busy time here for me. Today I have mountain of laundry to do. Laundry wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to go downstairs in our basement to do it. Somedays stairs are hard for me to navigate. Dh keeps telling me he is going to move them upstairs soon. His definition and my definition of soon is not the same. I know there needs to be a room built and a hookup done, and those things will cost money. Not much is going on this weekend. I hope we can just relax and take it easy. |
AUTUMN ~ I know how you feel; I picked up a cold myself (hope that is all it is) recently. Have been stuffed up, runny nose, and sporadic headaches, muscles sore, and a bit of congestion; just enuff to make you fell tired and blah! After I'm done here, I will be bundling up and resting up early tonight too.
I don't know what the Zumba is but I hear lots of people talking about it; sounds like fun. Hope you get some :rain: soon; we've had lots here. I did some catch-up on laundry too; 4 loads today. Almost done; just towels to do; thank goodness, we have lots. That would be so nice for you to have your laundry room upstairs. Our place is ground-level and our laundry set fits in a laundry cubby off our kitchen; it's so handy for me -- I luv it! The last two days, we have had :rain: and :sunny: on and off; and sometimes, at the same time, very neato ... Saturday was really nice so we went up to our lot; we took up our double lawnchair and I gave it a few coats of stain (taking many rests in between though), while DH made some small stairs. I was so sore (actually we both were), so spent all day yesterday resting. I always seem to overdo it and then pay big time for days afterward. Boy, I have to learn to pace myself better. We are off to the city tomorrow as DH has to get a cat scan done for his memory problems; hope we have a good trip. We may do a bit of shopping whilst we are there too ... :D Have a good week everyone ... Rosebud :flow2: |
I am so much better today. Not 100% but getting there. I still can hear some congestion but I think it is breaking up.
I am going to go back to Zumba tomorrow and then a Trustees meeting at church. I hope I don't smell to bad (I sweat a ton at Zumba). I am thinking of maybe joining our church choir. I had a couple corner me after church Sunday telling me I should sing in the choir. They heard me singing one Sunday when I was sitting behind them. I don't know. There is so much going on I may just wait until my term is up being a trustee (that will be in December), but it would be cool to sing in the Christmas Cantata. I'll have to see what is going on next week. |
AUTUMN ~ glad to hear that you are feeling better. I had a wee cold and it seems to be getting better too. Sounds like fun joining the choir.
We had lovely :sunny: today and temps in the 60's -- that's a lot better than what we had. As long as it isn't wet or windy, the sixties aren't so bad. It is an adjustment getting used to the sudden cold temps though. We have piled three comforters onto our bed. Funny, how when you get in, you feel chilled, but by the middle of the night or morning, you are so hot, you start sweating and want to throw them all off. Why is that? I think as you get older, these extremes in temperatures bother you more; and with all this added "oh naturel" padding, you don't like the heat so much. When I was younger, I loved to take saunas but now even the thought abhors me ... oh well ... Well, I have eaten very healthy and on plan for the last two days and that's a good thing. We had a nice roast chicken dinner with piles and piles of roasted veggies. Sounds like it is supposed to be really nice tomorrow so hope you all have a fab Friday too ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI LADIES ~ we had a lovely few days the last three days here. Yesterday was gorgeous with lovely :sunny: so we went up to our camper/lot and spent the day there. We got lots done and had a great time. I tried out my new small weed whacker which works fab for me (it's nice and light and easy to use). The only thing is that my body ended up so sore by the evening and this AM. I have to learn how to pace myself with it though -- so next time, I will use it about half the time I did.
My new double lawnchair is so comfy and it was nice resting there in the full :sunny: in the afternoon. Some clouds and winds moved in by dinnertime, we we came back home then. Today, we awoke to :rain:, but by lunchtime, the :sunny: was out in full force and stayed all day. It was in the 60's today -- and looked like one of those fall-spring days, we hear of .... very nice. DH's sister came by for a wee visit this afternoon. We just stayed home and got a good rest as we sure needed it; we have decided it is best to rest up for the whole weekend. Tonight, I am reading a story called "THE LETTER" by Richard Paul Evans. Time for some tea -- hope you all are having a fab weekend too ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 Just had a quiet day at home; sat in the lovely fall :sunny: for awhile today ... so nice to catch some Vitamin D the natural way. Now this is the fall weather I have been waiting for. Ate on plan better over the last couple of days, and we had roast chicken and veggies last night; and Shepherd's Pie (a liter version) for dinner tonight with a very small salad for me.
I think my stomach is shrinking (from the inside too), since we have been using smaller dishes and bowls even for our dinner. They say that can happen after awhile. Whenever I have salad, soup, or lots of veggies, I feel much fuller sooner. I picked a few more baby green beans today; we had enuff for dinner but I added some carrots, knib corn, and broccoli stems with them to have with our dinner. I think I am becoming addicted to veggies ... yeah! I often will make a pot of green beans or a mixture, and put my main dinner on top of them, and it looks like so much more. I do this with spagetti sauce and other dishes as well. Makes it go much further too; then I save the leftovers for lunch the next day. Hope you all have a great week and nice weather like us too; and do take good care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Hi, everyone! So glad you're still here-I've been missing my 'visits'. Needing support, so I should have been here instead of trying to do things on my own, but been very, very busy running around too. Hope you all have a nice day:)
|
I think I still have a bit of my cold. When I lay down is when it bothers me but I am getting better every day. I wish I could get over this like I used to when I was younger. My 6 year old only seems to have it for a couple days.
I went to choir this week. I liked it. It is something I can do. I am still doing Zumba and still loving it. The dancing is what I like. Now if it would only rain here! It is still very, very dry. We have some fields catching fire and combines also. I cannot believe how many combines they have had catching fire out here. We have had 2 this week and 2 last week. Some are total losses. That is what happens when it is do dry and they are picking. |
 HI RONNIE ~ so nice to see you back here, girl; have been praying for you and yours ... we will catch up soon!
AUTUMN ~ sorry that cold is hanging on; hope it goes soon. Good for you still doing the Zumba; and glad the choir thing is working out for you too. We would gladly send you some of this :rain: as we got drenched today. It is normal for us to get both spring & fall rains here though, but we have more than we need already. I just told someone in Alabama that we will pray that these clouds will move south for you all. ;) Had a good day; made homemade soup for lunch; baked 2 banana fiber loaves; and we had pita pizza for our Friday fun dinner. Time to go have some more hot tea; wrap myself up and get warm ... it's :brr: in here. Have a great weekend ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI FRIENDS ~ well, we have been blessed with two days of lovely :sunny: in a row ... perfect for a long drive out to the country yesterday afternoon. Our car was working much better (no stinky fumes, so far) and we had a really nice drive out to our lot. We brought home some stuff we don't want to freeze; and it is getting time to get things closed up for winter.
The leaves on our crab apple and poplar trees there are starting to turn yellow; that's a sign for sure, but it was nice basking on our new double lawnchair in the sun for a while. I even did some crocheting while out there. We just stayed for the afternoon and then came home. The landlord came by yesterday AM and cleaned our gas furnace for us so that we can used it now. Last Friday, it poured all day and it was so damp & chilly that night, so DH tried to put the furnace on but the fire alarm kept going off, so he had to turn the furnace back off. WE used a couple of electric heaters that night instead, but we are now good to go for the winter ... Baked a nice big ham with lots of roasted veggies to go along for dinner tonight; it was yummy! Hope you all are having nicer weather and a great week coming up too ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Hi!
Yep, we're having nice weather here, but since we had so much rain earlier, they're saying our trees won't be as colorful, which will be disappointing. Some have already started changing-some of the maples and elms, I think, but I'm not too good with tree identification:) Had a good on-plan day yesterday:) DS3 has youth group tonight, so I get to go to town for errands-groceries, etc. Trying to keep from going to the store every day when he has football, so I can keep the spending down, you know. I figure it costs less for the gas to make the double trip than to kill time in Walmart, if you know what I mean. Well, not much to say, and I need to get things accomplished here. Hope you all have great day! |
 HI RONNI ~ I have days like that too, when I don't have much to say becuz I just stayed home, and did laundry & house chores, like today. We were supposed to go out but DH was late getting back from his hobby run -- as he found the parts to fix his bike, so he was a happy camper today ... and that's a good thing! :D
So I did bed linens, cleaned the bathroom, and then vacuumed but took a break in between to give myself a rest. By the time you dry it all and put them away and remake the bed, you are exhausted. Plus I made roasted chicken breasts with loads of veggies today (onions, baby carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, a yam, and small new potatoes) for dinner. Have lots of veggies left over for other meals and/or soup as well. Tomorrow morning, we will go downtown to pay some bills, do errands, and a bit of shopping -- mostly for fresh stuff and things we are out of. Our pantry is full up, but we mostly need things like eggs, bread, fresh fruit & veggies and such: stuff you use up pretty fast. Oh, and I wanted to share that I have been eating pretty good this week; keeping to my basic meal plan. I am finding a groove for breakfast: I find that some cereals bother my stomach (indigestion), but if I have an egg on toast say, no problem -- my tummy seems much happier. I have a small snack mid-morning; then for lunch, we have soup and wg sandwich (with meat) varying the kind each day. Sometimes, it's homemade soup or cupasoup or mushroom once a week which is a favorite of mine. My dinners you already know about, as I share them often, but we switch things up now and then to keep it interesting. Time to put my legs up for the night and do some reading; hope you all have a fabulous Friday tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI LADIES ~ Well, we went back up town this AM to finish off getting the things that we missed on Friday as my right knee was starting to collapse from being too tired (too much walking in one day). So today, I kept it to a minimum -- DH went one place while I went another to save my legs, but I felt better today. My feet are a bit sore now, after a long day, but I will put them up as soon a I finish posting for the night ...
Guess who had a bit of the ***white stuff*** fall today? I think this is the earliest I can recall in a long time, but it didn't last long and was very light -- melting as soon as it touched the ground. The weather has been so varied just in one day; we had ***, then :sunny:, and :rain:, then :sunny: again. When the sun went behind a big fur tree, it started to feel chilly in here again. We had to put the furnace on, but it only ran once and then stopped. It will more than likely come back on during the night, as it is supposed to get down into the 30's F here tonight and for most of the coming week as well ... :brr: We had a pair of WHISKEY-JACKS (or gray-jays) here all week and today they were stocking up on food for the winter. They kept coming back and filling their beaks/gullets and carting the food to different places. They had a run-in with some blackbirds (grackles) the other day, but I think they have finally left for the south as we haven't seen them here since. We put out a bit extra food for them for their long trip. We still have a few doves, and a few different kinds of sparrows; the striped-headed ones have returned as well as some with a deep orange-tuffed head. The junkos are still coming and we expect the chickadees pretty soon. I have seen a few woodpeckers already as well. We had leftover BBQ spit chicken with some veggies & new potatoes. WE ate much later tonight as we got home late from shopping so lunch was late as well, but I did make a pot of roasted veggie soup with barley & lentils for lunch. That was so nice on a cold day like today. I think we are all set for winter -- DH and I stocked up on socks and stuff like that. I also picked up a few things that were missing in my pantry as I like to stock up for the winter at this time of year. Hope you all are having a great weekend; take good care now ... Rosebud :flow2: |
We had lovely :sunny: all day today and the temps got up into the 70's too! It was perfect to do stuff outdoors so we did. We went up town to pay bills and to check out a new dollar store. I also picked up a few things at our local bulk store that I can't get anywhere else. DH and I tried their pizza; we shared a slice between us for lunch.
I got lots and lots of walking in today and was glad for that. I am resting my sore legs right now. Had a good on plan day and last couple of days; am doing really well this year. I tweaked my plan a bit and it is helping a lot (I actually simplified things a bit). I have made my breakfasts and lunches simpler, so I mostly have to plan the dinners out. I have a list on the side of my fridge and that helps at a glance. IN the late afternoon, we cleaned up our garden beds for the winter. DH pulled all the empty bean plants; and then we pulled all the glads and cut off the bulbs for storage. I wrapped them in newspaper and am storing them in our spare room which averages about 50 F; so hope it works. Many of our flowering bushes are still blooming, which is nice; and we left the BROWN-EYED SUSANS in for now for the same reason. When they start to look droopy, we will trim them down to the ground. Some of this is just guess-work on my part as I am growing many of them for the first time -- but overall, this garden was a huge success! I had so many compliments all through the season and that is rewarding too. A lady down the street has lots of MARIGOLDS still blooming in a bed out in the open, so next year, I'll put some of them in too. I used to grow them in the country and they can even take some snow and still bloom; they are so amazing! Hope everyone has a wonderful week; they are predicting :sunny: days for us all week long. Take good care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI LADIES ~ we had a nice, quiet day at home today, with lots of lovely :sunny: again -- what a treat for us. It seems that fall is finally here. We hope to go up to the lot this week since the weather is so nice as we have to bring some stuff back home for the winter.
This AM, I just did a bit of vacuuming and some fall sorting -- putting some stuff away for this year. For dinner tonight, we tried out a new fish for the first time, called BASA fillets. I coated them in a light seasoned coating that I make myself with just flour & seasoned salt. They turned out quite nice -- we both liked it. There are no bones nor strong fishy taste/smell, so I think this kind of fish could be used in a lot of recipes; and it was affordable as well. I served it with new potatoes that our SIL brought us from her garden (GOD bless her) and some mixed veggies. I also had a small broccoli coleslaw on the side. Tonight, I was doing some researching around the site; reading up on some other forums for fun. Now I am going to put up my legs and do some more reading or maybe even a bit of crocheting for awhile. Hope all our friends here have a nice week; take good care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Just checking in. Not much is happening here. I have been having some good days. Lets hope it continues.
|
HI RED ~ glad that you dropped by anyways; it is nice to hear from you no matter what is going on. Many of my days are spent doing stuff around the house and shopping, etc at this time of year. We went up to our lot yesterday and it was a lovely day. Brought home our linen and emptied some water jugs to bring home. DH made me a (very large) sign for our place so that people know which place is ours (they get it confused with my Dad's place). I spent almost an hour staining it; next time I am up there, I will finish it off.
We had creamy pasta with veggies for dinner when we got home and I had the leftovers for lunch today. Tonight, we had a baked dinner with sweet potato fries (DH had fish and I had chicken tenders this week) with salad, baby cukes & tomatoes. I like this as it isn't too hard and gives me a break from the heavier cooking. I did some laundry last night and clean our bathroom this AM; just doing stuff around here as per usual -- nothing too exciting for me either but somebody has to do it and it gives me regular exercise each day too. I keep thinking of all the calories I am burning as I'm doing my chores now. :D I started to read a book by ANTHONY ROBBINS called "AWAKENING THE GIANT WITHIN" today ... started reading and then ended up looking at the index and started reading a later chapter ... oops -- gotta get back to Chapter One ... he has a lot of similar ideas I have heard others speak about like positive thinking and such. Had a good chuckle about the difference between the sexes regarding how we communicate; DH & I have the same issues going on becuz we were raised so differently, but now we will have some more ideas to try ... Hope you all have a fantastic Friday tomorrow ... boy, the weekend is here already -- this week just whizzed by! Take good care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Well, it :rain: over night, but that cleared up and we had a gloriously :sunny: day again ... what a blessing. Better enjoy it cuz next week, may change. Just stayed home and did stuff around here. Did some reading and stuff on the PC after my house things were done.
I had a mushroom & ham omelette for breakfast this AM with one slice of wg toast and coffee; had peaches for my mid-morning snack. Then I made some nice beef veggie soup for lunch. We had bangers and beans for dinner tonight; and I had a broccoli salad and a baby cuke with mine. Tonight, I'm just playing on here and may go do some reading again later. This is our long THANKSGIVING weekend here in Canada. Hope you are all having a Fab Friday night ... Rosebud :flow2: |
:happ3::thanks2::happ3:
Hope all our CANADIAN FRIENDS had a nice THANKSGIVING DAY and weekend ... it was really nice here today! We started out with some light and fluffy *****, but then the clouds parted and the :sunny: came out to play for the rest of the day! We skipped the traditional turkey this year, and had Chicken & Riblets in BBQ sauce instead, with baked new potatoes and roasted veggies: baby carrots, knib corn, cauliflower, and broccoli! It turned out really nice. I skipped on the desert as we have some puddings and were too full after that healthy dinner anyways. We had some pumpkin pie last weekend anyways; just a tad early. I will likely be making pumpkin custard for Christmas instead. Well, I hope the good weather continues next week; we had to put our furnace on for the first time this year last night as it :rain:'d and the winds were quite fierce; two things that make it quite chilly. The temps have been dropping a bit during the night. Hope you all have a lovely week coming up; take good care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
HI EVERYONE ~ well, I had a good day today; yesterday was divine ... we had glorious :sunny: all day long so I spent a lot of time out on our deck with NIKO and did some reading and crocheting. Today, we had a bit of :rain: in the AM, so I stayed in and did some mending (have a lot to catch up on). This aft, the :sunny: peeked out again for us and stayed out til dinnertime. :D
Tomorrow is my BD, so we hope to go out and do something; not sure what though ... ;) It is a pretty quiet time of year here right now; just enjoying the fine weather as much as we can ... It was pasta night at our house tonight; we had wg spagettini with mini-meatballs and a cuke salad on the side. Sure is filling; love to mix things up now & then and this is one of our faves. Hope you all are having a lovely week out there too; take good care and don't be shy to drop by for a visit now & then. Time for some nice, hot tea ... Rosebud :flow2: |
HI THERE ~ we had lovely :sunny: for the last few days (with a bit of wind today) ... had a nice BD; we went out for lunch, then a long walk to burn off some calories, and for a nice drive in the country to a favorite lake before coming back home again. It was a very pleasant day! :D
We did some shopping yesterday and walked my feet off again, so they were very sore last night. Read half a novel last night (another good historical romance), so will try to finish it off tonight, if I can. Just stayed home today and did laundry ... We picked up some neato stuff for our Halloween display; got some maple leaf garlands, some window stickies, and the gem of a find for a song -- was two large lighted pumpkins with large, friendly cats on top at our local second-hand shop. We noticed last night that our dear NIKO was sleeping beside them all evening; and this morning, I managed to catch him with my camera licking one of them on the face & paw -- awww ... he thinks we brought him a friend. Sooo cute! You know, I bought a new cereal to try out yesterday; a bit of a mistake, I think ~ it just tastes too good and I found myself munching on it a bit tonight -- won't be buying that one again ... and NO, I am not even gonna tell you which one it is, becuz I don't want you buying it and making the same mistake as me. Live and learn, as they say .... Hope all our friends here are having a lovely fall, and a nice weekend as well ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HELLO FRIENDS ~ We had a nice, quiet & relaxing weekend at home ... I just small stuff around here. This AM, we awoke to ***white*** grass, but it all melted as soon as the :sunny: came out in full. Thankfully, things cleared up completely and we had :sunny: until sunset tonight.
I seemed to have the munchies this weekend; really had to reign that in, but I think I managed at least a couple maintenance days or better, I hope. Today, I made a nice chicken with roasted veggies; that always makes me feel better and more satisfied ... :) I read a really nice historical romance novel over the weekend in the evenings; just like watching a movie only better, I think. I got some more mending done today; am finally almost caught up now. The temps are really falling these days; even below zero F, and the sun is setting sooner too. We went hunting for our Halloween stuff yesterday and have them ready to make up our display. We are just waiting a bit longer this year before putting them out though, so things won't get damaged by any bad weather. Hope all our friends here have a wonderful week coming up ... Rosebud :flow2: |
:brr: BOY, it has sure been cold here lately; I think many areas are experiencing colder temps than usual ... even in Californie they are only getting 60's & 70's ... awww ... that's too bad! Maybe they'd like our ZERO C better, eh? Oh, I'm naughty today ... ;)
Well, us Canadians have to find some way to keep warm; and giggling helps a little bit. I have been catching up on my laundry and mending as of late; have stayed home the last few days. I have been reading AWAKEN THE GIANT WITHIN by Anthony Robbins; this is a very interesting book and has lots of ideas about solutions for getting the most out of life; improving our relationships; and fulfilling our goals and dreams (including weightloss). I just pushed the thermostat up a notch so the furnace would come on and warm me up whilst I'm posting; I find it is hard to get used to the wet cold at the beginning of the wintery seasons, although technically we are still supposed to be in Autumn right now ... Had baked chicken fingers & sweet potato fries & a broccoli/cuke salad for dinner tonight; plus I had the crock pot on with a hearty homemade tomato sauce with lots of lean meat (I drained the fat off first). I just put the crock in the fridge and will reheat it tomorrow. We are supposed to get some :sunny: on the weekend! Hope everyone out there is having a good week; do have a fab Friday tomorrow -- hey, TGIF!!! Take good care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
HI LADIES ~ well, I tried to come in here and make a post last night, but we had a bad storm with fierce winds that knocked the ISP off just as I was writing my post in this thread. I noticed that I hadn't been in here almost a week as we have been so busy and I was posting in other threads too.
This is a busy time as we get everything ready for the winter. We went up to our lot today and closed up the camper, emptied water containers, and brought home all the extra food, linen, and other stuff that we don't want to freeze or get damp. We hope to put the other half of the new roof on the camper next summer so there will be no more leaks; we found two more small ones today when we went there. Nothing like a humongous storm to let you know where all the tiny little holes are. Heck, this storm was swirling the :rain: in every direction in torrents or sheets of rain -- and since we have a tin roof, the sound was awesome, almost musical even. Some rain even trickled down our furnace vent pipe ... We saw some more SNOWBIRDS on our way out there and back; had to keep honking the horn so they would get off the road ... :dizzy: We had put out our Halloween decos but had to bring them back in last night as they were blowing away on us. DH went out this AM to find two guys in our back lane trying to rescue their tent garage that had rolled here during the night (totally destroyed too). He helped them take it back home, as the winds were still blowing a bit this morning too; but we did have some :sunny: for half the day at least. Actually, this is normal weather for this time of year here; we always get rain and winds in the fall here, but in November that will turn to ***** as the temps drop again. I can hear the wind coming down the pipes but it isn't near as bad as last night. We had Spagetti with some meat sauce I made in the crock pot last week; froze it in small containers. We also had some spagetti squash and green beans with it as fillers that makes up for less pasta. I took out some wild pacific salmon for tomorrow night, and DH was thrilled about that. Hope you all have a great week and nice weather where you are; take good care now ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 We had a good weekend; busy and a bit tiring. We put our fall decos back out and the winds died down and stayed that way since. The temps were a bit cooler but at least it wasn't wet and mucky; a wee bit of **** had fallen on Saturday and stayed until today -- but as the temps came up, it all melted.
The :sunny: peeked out just before sunset (:dizzy:) but it is supposed to be back with us for a clear, sunny day tomorrow -- that would be nice as it is very :brr: chilly :brr: here tonight. We had to put the furnace up a bit to take the chill out of the air ... I made a pot of homemade sirloin beef stew with lots of veggies for dinner tonight; perfect for a cold day and we have enuff left over for a hot lunch tomorrow too. We didn't have as many kids as last year, but one of our neighbors did -- mostly family and friends. I am sure the colder weather was to blame. I had a few low-cal treats last night, but planned well ahead by eating less during the day and it worked out well. I purposely bought things that DH & I don't like so there was not much problem for us there. DH is keeping some things for snacks but we are donating the leftover candy bags to goodwill. We even got a bit of Christmas shopping done this past week; got some good bargains. We aren't buying as much this year; just don't need or want that much this year -- so we should save some $$$ too ... :carrot: Hope you all have a great week coming up; do take care ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI FRIENDS ~ well, we have had a good week; been keeping on plan and getting some rest too. I had hurt my middle back a bit last week -- from moving around the bins with our decos; so I purposely rested since the weekend and I am feeling much, much better (pain is all gone) ... :D
I just did a bit of vacuuming and dust mopping today; plus light tidying which gave me some good walking around here (to & for; to & fro). I had a great NSV this week; when we went to town on Tuesday, I picked up a nice navy suit (perfect to go with my velvet navy top), but it was a size smaller (1x) and it fits! Yeah ... :cheer3: Sooo, all those tummy crunches, half-situps, butt squeezes, and hand weights in the AM are doing their job (started in January this year); so I am increasing the reps a bit at a time starting this month. :) I made a meatless pasta dish for dinner tonight (added some beans instead of meat this week) -- am doing a bit of experimenting. I could eat pasta & veggies OR rice & veggies no problem; but I am sneaking them at DH a bit at a time ... It was a bit chilly :brr: here today; the winds make it feel colder than it is though. We did get a whole day of :sunny: last Tuesday, and it also made an appearance this afternoon for a while too, which is always nice. I have a docs appt next Monday; they called and asked me to come in. I guess he is wondering how I am doing. I haven't had any more symptoms in some time now, so I hope that means things are healing up well (internally, that is). Hope that is a good sign; but I haven't been called for the colonoscopy test yet -- that does take some time, I hear. It did occur to me that they are waiting to see if things heal up on its own too. A friend told me she had the same thing happen to her, and it did heal on its own in time. Well, I hope all our friends here are well; and that you all have a fabulous Friday tomorrow as well -- TGIF, eh? Take good care of yourselves; and don't be a stranger now, ya hear ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI THERE ~ We have been having the most glorious weather this past week -- at least 4 days of full :sunny: in a row! What a blessing for us here; still no *****, just some Jack Frost this morning, but it all melted pretty soon. I did my morning toning exercises upon waking as per usual, only I have upped the reps for the month of November, so we'll see how that goes. I was so happy about that NSV of the blue suit, that I thought a little tweak was in order ... :D
I did my usuall Wednesday house chores today; the washroom and some laundry -- plus the meal and dishes, etc. Just had a chicken burger with a nice mixed salad for dinner tonight; simple but very healthy too. DH got some pictures of his parents & grandparents blown up this week; they finally arrived today, so I put them in some really nice frames that I picked up a while back. We hung them up in the livingroom today and they look great; this is so nice for him to have a picture of them here, since so many of his family are now passed on to the other side (it is very comforting for him). UPDATE ~ I finally got my call about the colonoscopy test -- it will be on Monday, November 22, 2010 but not sure of the time yet. I have to go the Wednesday before for the pre-op consult for preparation, and they will tell me the exact time then ... eeks, I will try and not be too nervous about it. I am feeling better and the symptoms seemed to have eased off, but they want to make sure and check anyways. I'm hoping that is has all healed up now, and things will be all clear as well ... :^: I had a bit of a problem with my PC; coudn't post on this site through FIREFOX as some type of MALWARE PROGRAM blocked all my screen images including emoticons, smilies, pictures, signatures, and even the SUBMIT REPLY buttons -- so weird. MOZILLA was very helpful and sent me some ideas how to remedy the problem, which I am still working on through IE. Hope all our friends that usually visit here are having a good week; do take good care of yourselves ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 HI FRIENDS ~ we had a nice, quiet day at home today. We had a few light flurries last night that quickly turned into :rain: for the remainder of the night. Today it was overcast and in the 40's most of the day. It has all cleared up now though; and just after dinner, I saw the half moon and some stars out there from the front window.
I have been tweaking my plan again; and making some changes to improve things a bit. I changed my breakfast this month to oatmeal + natural cream of wheat for at least 3 days and really have found that it takes away hunger cravings I used to get at 11 am; so I am switching over for awhile. I am reading a new book about healthy eating called "WINNING THE FOOD FIGHT" and there is a plan in there called "The VICTORY Diet" and I am using many of the ideas and tips from it and finding them helpful. I am going to try them for a while -- he challenges people to try the oatmeal fiber breakfast for 3 weeks, if they have "Constipation" issues, as this food plan helps cure that problem. So far, I am seeing much improvement in that area, which I really needed right now. ;) He also encourages people to try the main plan for 7 weeks to see if they see health improvements for cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight-loss. So, we'll see how I do over the next while as I intregrate the changes a few at at time ... For Breakfast today, I had my oatmeal/cream of wheat fiber mix with skim milk & 1 tsp of Spenda brown sugar mix & a coffee. I also had a banana and a coffee for a snack in the morning. For lunch, I had a really nice tuna-veggie salad sandwich and a chicken noodle cupasoup. For, dinner I had cabbage rolls with green beans & knib corn, plus a smallish salad on the side. Boy, was I full; filling up on veggies and salad is really working for me. TUNA SALAD SANDWICH or other (see below) 1 tin tuna, drained 2 tbl minced onion 2 tbl shredded carrot 2 tbl diced celery 2 tbl diced cucumber 2 tbl diced fresh tomato 1-2 tbl miracle whip dressing Combine and put on sandwich; this actually makes enuff for two sandwiches or two tuna salads that you can put on lettuce; or in a tomato or sweet green pepper cup; or in a wg tortilla wrap; or half a wg pita pocket, as desired. I just mixed up half for today; and the other half tin of tuna with the onion & carrot are in the fridge in a sealed container for tomorrow. Hope you all have a wonderful week coming up; and take good care now ... Rosebud :flow2: |
 Well, WE HAVE SNOW!!! Yes, it finally arrived on November 18th this year; we've been blessed for sure ... but the temps did fall a bit ... :brr:
My best computer crashed on me today; I picked up a malware virus here last week and have been working like crazy to save as many files as I could. So, I am now using my old PC, but it is very slooooow. I will do my best with it; will come in and read more, and post when I can. Did my pre-op for my colonoscopy today; it is for 10 AM on Monday morning. Picked up lots of juice, some pop, and few gatorades for the day before as I have to do a liquid fast for 24 hours ... wish me well! I got in a bit of walking, but my eating wasn't top notch today; let the stress get to me a bit. Oh well, I have finally got this pc working Ok; and it will keep me busy. DH pulled out our Christmas tree today; think he was trying to get my mind on something cheery ... ;) Hope you all have a fantastic Friday tomorrow -- for those of you who have to work -- TGIF!!! Take good care and have a good one, eh ... Rosebud :flow2: |
