 HI EVERYONE ~ thought it would be a good time to start a fresh, new thread -- one for the summertime ... I think summer officially started around the 20 or 21st anyways (not sure). ;)

Sooo ... we went up to our lot on Monday of this week (made two trips for doors and windows for our cottage), and boy, was it :hot:; then went shopping on Tuesday (walked my tired feet off); then did my Wednesday weeding, and planted some more seed in our side gardens (more green beans, lettuces, radishes, and summer turnips).

Today, we stayed home so that I could have a complete rest day as I overdid it a bit I guess. I woke up with a bit of a cold this morning and that peri-menopause stuff is acting up again over the last week or so ... thankfully, as the day went on, I started to feel better. :D

We had a cooler day today, but the :sunny: did peek out since the late afternoon which was nice. We had fish, homefries (I had sweet potato), and salad for dinner tonight; nice & easy for me. I heard that there were some bad storms and supposed to have been some tremors here, but we have lots of road work going on near our place so it was hard to tell ...

Uncle Tom's funeral service is tomorrow AM. Hope you all have a great week with great weather out there ... Rosebud :flow1:

Hello there, I've been looking for a thread like this, would LOVE to chat and get some advice. I broke my leg back in March, and am partial weight baring now. Starting aquatic therapy tomorrow but only twice a week. I had to spend some $$$ on a stationary recumbant bike this week since the PT wasn't too thrilled at wher I'm at. I was JUST starting to use the elliptical for an hour right before I fell. I know being lighter will be better for my knee to recover. I have put on Comcast On Demand and try to do some of the upper work outs while in my wheelchair but get frustrated and don't know if it's enough, kwim?
Thanks for reading!

Hi! I'm glad this thread is here. I just joined this morning. I've been blind and had Cerebral Palsy since birth, then in 2004 had a spinal cord injury. I just thought I'd stop by to say "hi". I'm just beginning the whole weight loss journey myself, although I guess I should have started a long time ago. I have renewed hope since reading through some of the posts here today! This forum is filled with a lot of determined people and I like that!

:welcome: NURSE2BE ~ ya, know how that feels; hope some of those exercises and machines help you. You can still do toning stuff (on a couch or bed); and hand=weights; stetchie-band work; chair aerobics; and the aquatic swimming should be great too. You really do have a lot of options and any movement burns energy whether on the top or bottom -- and that is what matters really ... :)

:welcome3: WILDKAT ~ you have some challenges but it sounds like you have a great attitude too -- not letting anything stand in your way. I think persistence is more important than perfection. A good food plan and some daily exercise is a good way to start. I vary what I do each day -- one day may be weeding in my garden; next shopping and walking; next day at our cottage lot doing stuff out there; another morning doing housechores, and I try to do some toning work each day (as soon as I get up for at least 10 minutes), then some other kind like I mentioned to Nursie above.

Glad you ladies joined our thread; hope to get to know you both better over the next while ... Rosebud :flow1:

We had a busy day today; went hunting for some perennial plants and bushes. Got home with some and after googling them, found out that a couple of them can either be very large bushes or even small trees ... :yikes: but we have planted some of them anyways. We planted some yellow daylilies, dianthus, and a have a coupld of daisylike ones in yellow with brown centers, and some pink ones as well.

The bushes are a lovely goldfinger with big yellow flowers and a purple leaf sand cherry bush. I also got two choke cherry bushes, but now have to decide where to put them ... oh my ... decisions, decisions.

Well, gotta go get these tired legs up; did lots of walking today and I am a bit tired, but will be back soon. Take good care ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 06-29-2010 01:40 PM

 HI FOLKS ~ well, we have had two busy days in a row, but we got all those plants in yesterday and it has been :rain: ing ever since. That is actually good becuz our plants like the cool, damp weather to get them started well in their new homes; plus it was getting sooo dry around here that some of the grass was turning yellow ... :yikes: and that's not good ... :nono:

I managed to put in 4 pots and even had a rest while DH put in 3, but I somehow think that he was taking his merry time ... on purpose ... That's OK as I find that gardening is great exercise and I look forward to it; and the rewards of seeing all those pretty flowers are worth it too. All these new plants and bushes are perennials so they should be around for a long time; plus I can divide them and put some out at our lot. I got some really good deals (all 50% off) plus I tried to pick ones that had at least 2 or more plants per pot -- therefore, doubling and tripling my $$$ value ... ;)

Just made a nice pot of homemade veggie soup for lunch -- perfect for a cool, wet day like this. I already have the dinner prepared in a roasting pan; some BL and skinless chicken breasts surrounded with celery, carrots, onions, green beans, and will put slices of sweet potato and new potatoes on top just before turning on the oven. Think I'll bake some fruit while I am at it too.

Hope you are all having a good week out there; take good care of yourselves ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 06-29-2010 01:50 PM

:flow1: Oh and here's the real list of our perennial finds -- Goldsturm Rudbeckia or Brown-eyed Susans; Painted Daisies (multi-colored daisies); Dianthus (Sweet William mixed); Cantebury Bells (bluebells); Happy Returns Yellow Daylilies; Bama Maid Daylily (pretty Pink with white stripes and deep yellow centers); Goldfinger Cinquefoil (pretty yellow-flowered bush); Abbotswood Cinquefoil (white flowered bush); purple leaf sandcherry; and two Choke Cherry trees (or Pin Cherry).

Now there is another plant which they couldn't find in their book, so I don't know the name of it yet ... but it is supposed to have nice flowers that feel like paper; when it gets bigger, I will take a picture and see if I can find it in my flower books. :flow1:

Later on, I will try to get some other kinds like the pink Bleeding Heart Bush; they had them, but they get very big around, so you have to have lots of room to plant them. Plus the False Spirea is another favorite (I esp like the red ones) that I will definitely try to get down the road ... ttyl :D

Justwant2Bhealthy 06-30-2010 07:53 PM

 HI LADIES ~ well, we had another day of :rain: but that's OK -- we want all our wells to get refilled and give our grass and trees a good soaking so the grass will turn green again. The :sunny: has been peaking out a bit now and then, so maybe it will be sunny tomorrow for our country's birthday after all ... :D

We had a good day; did some shopping in the AM so got some walking in today too; and then we had to do a pick-up in the afternoon as we forgot some things. Didn't have much to get: mostly fresh stuff. Boy, it was very busy today; the stores were packed and the roads crowded as well. Glad to get home really.

Wanted to share that I did really well on my NO JUNKIES JUNE CHALLENGE ... today is the last day and I DID IT!!! No chippies, no nachos, etc, etc, etc! YEAH for me! :cheer2:

Made a nice dinner tonight; a family favorite -- Creole Patties. I added some frozen niblets corn, sliced mushrooms; and some baby spinach from my side garden. I had a bowl of that with a small side salad; and DH had a new potato and mixed veggies. I am trying some new strategies as I would like to get some more weight off this summer; hope it works.

You know, I was having all kinds of trouble with my IE (Internet Explorer) every now & then, so this week I switched over to Mozilla Firefox, and I haven't had any problems since then; plus everything is working so much better on my PC too!!! :carrot:

I picked up some dark colored wool to do some more crocheting -- making some squares for a blanket. I am finding that it really helps keep my hands busy so I am less likely to munch; and I am very grateful for that ~ what a bonus!

Have been doing well on my plan this week; hope you all are too. Take good care ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-02-2010 02:32 PM

HAPPY CANADA DAY to all our Canadian friends out there ... and HAPPY 4th of JULY to all our Amercian friends too!

We didn't get back home from our CANADA DAY fireworks display until after 11 pm last night and it was exceptional this year, I must say ... well, it is our 100th birthday anniversary so it was a special one. Our dear NIKO was with us and he just curled up in a ball in the back seat and slept through the whole thing ...

DH had to rescue a baby sparrow this morning. I made it a bed using a veggie box with paper towels and rags, then put it in a hanging basket which we hung in a fur tree at the back. It took the mommas about 10 minutes to zero in on the squawker, but since then they have been working as a team to feed it. :)

BTW, seems that my NO JUNKIES JUNE paid off with me down 2 lbs yesterday AM ... I'll take it; I'll take it!!! :cheer:

Hope you all have a great long weekend; many people here were given both Thursday and Friday off (hence the long weekend). Take good care ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-04-2010 09:29 PM

 HI LADIES ~ we had a lovely day up at our lot yesterday; it started to get really :hot: in the afternoon, but then some nice clouds rolled in and the :rain: cooled things down so nicely. When the buggies came out, we high-tailed it back home.

Today, was another story; it was :flame: 'en :hot: out there and the humidity terribly thick. This am wasn't too bad, so we managed to get out to pick up some stuff for the camper beds so we can try staying there overnight; so we'll see how it goes. It was too bad to go outdoors in the afternoon, so I stayed indoors and caught up on my emails and such as I was very behind.

Have been having some internal concerns of late (blood in my stools a few times now); so will have to get that checked out. It was only a very small amount and went away before, but had it twice today and it has concerned me a bit. Funny, I was having some tiny jabby pains in my tummy this past week; wonder if they are related. Would prefer that it clears up on its own (praying for that) but may have to get some testing done, just in case. Gonna make an appointment with my doctor as soon as I can to see what he thinks.

Hope you all have a lovely week coming up ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-05-2010 10:19 PM

 Had a good day today and felt better too -- managed to get some walking in as we had to go do our usual things up town and picked up a few groceries for the week (things we forgot, like DH's Coke and spring water refills for me + for coffee and tea). My Dad tasted our water and couldn't believe how much chlorine is in it. I can really taste it myself, esp in my tea so we buy water just for drinking.

Have eaten really well so far this month; am keeping on plan. We did have some popcorn on Canada Day (July 1st) to celebrate, but I cut my complex carbs way down that day to allow for that. The rest of the month will be another JUNKLESS JULY for me. I have my allotted treats for the month -- low sugar fruit like berries and peaches, plus a few unsalted nuts for this month.

Have a great week ladies ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-07-2010 07:58 PM

BOY, was it :hot: :hot: :hot: today or what ... it was :flame: 'en :hot: ... it was way, way too :hot: .... man, it was svelteringly :hot: .... It was so :hot: that we had to come back home from our lot today, becuz it was just ... well, too :hot: .... and then we found that my salad garden had been 'FRIED' ... literally. No more lettuce; the only thing that is OK is the onions, so I pulled all the other stuff out and will be planting some beans in there instead. I have never had that happen before ... :?:

The only thing that I can think of is that we are now living in town; and it feels much hotter in here to me than when we lived in the country. The country was always cooler; and our garden drums always grew well out there -- probably becuz it was cooler. So, will have to come up with another strategy.

Some day, when it is cooler, we may try to stay out at our lot, but not when it is soooo danged :hot: Even in the camper with the windows open, it was too :hot: -- and the bathroom felt like a sauna ... literally. The sweat was just pouring off us ... so we came home.

Oh, how sweet it is ... to have our air conditioners on now! I told DH that from now on, I will be checking the forecast BEFORE we go anywhere, esp in July & August. I think the best strategy would be to only go out if they are forecasting :rain: ...

Anywho, hope you all are staying  some way or another. Take good care and have a great week too ... Rosebud :flow1:

ronni62 07-13-2010 09:46 AM

Hi, everyone and WELCOME to the newbies! Sorry I haven't been here much lately, but I'm trying to correct that.

Rosebud-we have used Firefox for awhile now, because so many sites no longer support Safari (the Mac internet program) and we've been ok with it-took awhile to get used to some of the new preferences, but now that we're familiar with it, we like it. I put dianthus in a couple of my flower beds and it always looks really nice. Not familiar with what a couple of your other plants are by name, so I'll be looking them up. The bleeding heart I put in a couple years ago has gotten to be about 5 feet across and 2 1/2 feet tall this year-hard to believe that it dies completely down every winter then gets this big in the summer. I may end up having to move it as I think I may have put it too close to our central air unit, but need to look into whether that's a good idea.

Well, must get ready to go to town-groceries are needed after DS1 and his family of 6 visited over the weekend. I thought our 2 boys still at home ate a lot, but I made tacos one evening and used up 4 pounds of lean ground beef!!

Have a great day, everyone!!

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-13-2010 04:14 PM

WOWIE ~ I didn't realize that I hadn't posted in here for such a long time!

H RONNIE ~ Thanks for dropping by ... it was getting kinda lonely over here lately ... We've been a bit busy ourselves, so I understand (a good kind of busy); and you have kids and grandkiddies too ... :D

I love doing my gardening; great exercise too. It has been a lifelong dream of mine to have a nice garden bed with lots of perennial flowers, plants, and bushes. I may pick up a bleeding heart next year; they can get very big. The bushes we got can get quite big too, so they will fill up a good area too. I am trying to spread it out, and will get some stuff each year until it has enuff.

I actually got some apples on my crab apple tree this year; what a nice surprise as they said it may take 3 years and it only took two, but only a few on there yet. I am so glad that we got some more :rain: this year, as they need it to fruit the trees well. I lost so many from lack of water the last two years. It is so strange becuz we never lacked for water in the past, just the last two years for some reason; hope that changes back for good this year.

DH wants to get a couple of loads of topsoil in our lot as he thinks that will help them retain a bit more water and grow better. We were glad that the trees we planted this spring are doing well; now we pray that they will make it over the winter.

Most of my flowers and bushes are blossoming right now; am just waiting on the painted daisies which the buds are coming up now and the bluebells which will be coming soon, I hope. I have been doing some research on the net too and made a list of some more perennials that I want to try and find.

We're having wild pacific salmon for dinner; I actually cooked it earlier to reheat in the microwave. Will have salads with that too likely. Had a vegetarian kind of lunch today; just changing things up a bit. I had a nice big crunchy salad with some beans and a .5 slice of bran bread.

Have a great day ... :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-14-2010 07:58 PM

 HI ~ had to go to the dentist this AM; just for a cleaning and a check-up and everything seems A-OK right now ... :carrot:

Then DH and I went hunting for some things that we forgot for the camper and we really lucked out on some good deals. We found a new grill for our BBQ as well as a special pan to cook on it with; and our tank was still partly full but the guy filled it up anyways. DH just has to press the starter more and put the gas at full on ... it has been so long since we used it that he/we forgot ... ;)

It was very :hot: here again today; and they are expecting that for tomorrow too, then it should  down with some :rain: for us. We may get to go up to the lot more after this week, as the long-range forecast is predicting cooler weather. That would be great for DH as a young neighbor has offered to help him finish putting the shingles on the roof.

DH somehow got into some poison oak or something like that recently; had to get some meds today. So, we have to get all the grass around the edges of our lot trimmed when we go up there next. I think the weed-whacker would be very helpful with that job, so we'll see if it comes out or not.

Hope you all have a good day tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-16-2010 09:21 PM

:welcome: to our thread, JASIKA ~ that is a pretty name ... yes, this thread is for those of us who have a few physical challenges, but we don't let them get in our way! We keep pressing on and looking for ways around them on our journey back to good health. Hope to see you come by and visit us now and then too.

I can eat the harder cheeses, like curds and probably buttermilk too, and yogurt and yogurt ice cream -- I just can't drink the regular milk as I have LACTOSE INTOLERANCE ... which leads to the "fox trots" right pronto. Well, as I mentioned earlier, I may pick up some of those pills that help digest the milk proteins; now if I could just remember to do that (I haven't been near the drug store lately). ;)

We had a nice day up at our lot; we hired a young man to help us and he finished off shingling the porch roof for us (DH is sooo happy about that and so am I). I got some walking in myself marking off my trees and bushes today.

Nice weather today; :sunny: and :cloud9:, then some :rain: this evening to  things off for us. Hope everyone out there has a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow1:

joyful retiree 07-19-2010 10:50 AM

Hi All,

After reading through some of the Physical Challenges threads, I wanted to introduce myself. You all seem to have such positive attitudes & determination. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis about 10 years ago, & have been unable to take the more effective disease modifying drugs that keep the permanent damage to joints somewhat controlled. The result is that my functioning is somewhat impaired, so very low impact exercizes designed to maintain range of motion as much as possible are about all I can manage. I feel very blessed that I am still able to do as much as I can. This does mean, however, that weight loss has been very slow.

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-19-2010 07:52 PM

:welcome3: JOYFUL ~ we are glad that you decided to stop in and post in our thread; and I hope some things in our threads can help you in some way too. We do understand how physical conditions can slow us down. It has taken me some time to lose my weight, but that is OK ... I have read many times that the slower you lose, the more likely you will keep it off; and that is fine with me ... :D

We had a busy day out at our lot and got lots done once I got DH organized that is ... boy, he sure has trouble with concentrating on one task (which is one of the issues he has). He flits from thing to thing like a 6 year old boy would; or a bird ... However, we got a lot done anyways. We had hired some help but they never showed up ... :?:

So we rolled up our sleeves and did it ourselves. It took us all day, and I am exhausted and very sore and very tired; but just think of all the calories I burned up today. We just had leftovers for dinner tonight; yeah for leftovers!

Overall it was a great day; but I did get stung by a wasp today; actually, I got one really nasty sting and two smaller ones as I shot one wasp out of my dress and out of the trailer. I may have accidentally stepped on a nest when were looking for a place to plant a berry bush. We finally decided to put them on the south side of the trailer as that would make good shade for it down the road.

I hope you all had a great day out there too; tomorrow is a rest day for me and I have to go to the doctors as well. Take care ... Rosebud :flow1:

joyful retiree 07-21-2010 09:21 AM

Thanks for the welcome & the inspiration, Rosebud.

I sure hope you had a nice day of rest after all that hard work you did. Pacing myself is one of the hardest things for me to learn. Learning to do as much as I can without pushing too far and ending up in bed for a few days is a challenge in stewardship that I continually struggling with. Thankfully, in His great love, God is very gentle & patient with this slow learner.

Losing weight has also been a slow process for me, but slow is okay & I am just grateful that it's happening.

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-21-2010 10:54 AM

 JOYFUL ~ yes, I do the same thing sometimes; tend to overdo it now & then and pay for it. On the days I feel good, I want to do as much as I can; I hope that I am learning to keep a better balance -- we have a rule now that if we do something one day, we have to take the next one or two off to rest ... it is working out well.

Just went to the docs yesterday and have to get some tests done; but at least I have an idea what it is. I used to have chronic IBS and diarrhea daily; but with the change in my eating style, I have swung completely the other way and had some side effects of that. The doc still wants me to have a colonoscopy becuz of my age and our family history of colon cancer.

Yesterday AM, we moved my BEE BALM plant to another place by itself as my research says that it is a spreader; and I planted the last four BLACK OR BROWN-EYED SUSANS (or Goldstrum Rudbeckias). I also planted a late crop of green beans to replace the spinach which is now over.

We were supposed to have thunderstorms today; but they haven't shown up just yet ... maybe they'll come later or not at all. Well, gotta go get some small housechores done; I already have a roast and veggies prepare for dinner -- just have to turn the oven on later.

Have a great day, ladies ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-24-2010 07:34 PM

 After such a busy day yesterday, I just took today off and rested doing whatever I wanted most of the day. I spent some time on my PC reading and catching up on stuff that I had missed, like reading my email.

The weather started off with some :rain: but now the clouds have cleared and the :sunny: is out and things are warming up. I actually liked the cooler temps though ... felt nice; great for sleeping too.

Had roasted chicken breasts with veggies and a cuke/tomato salad for dinner tonight; nice and healthy. Doing really well lately sticking to my plan; my sugars are doing better too, as a result, I'm sure. I took out some food to our birdies and gave them a little grain treat; they are having fun chasing each other all over the place for the food. It's fun to watch their antics; and the babies are just squalking up a storm ... ;)

Hope you are all having wonderful weekend; the last full one for July. Take good care and enjoy your summer ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-25-2010 05:01 PM

 Well, this has turned out to be a lovely :sunny: day after all; almost an ideal summer day -- with a nice breeze and lots of fluffy white clouds to keep it from getting too hot. Couldn't ask for more on a Sunday really ... :D

I just stayed home and enjoyed basking and reading out on our deck while DH did his thing switching our trailers around, you know -- guy stuff. I went out to take a picture of the painted daisies as they are now starting to bloom, but just as I did, I got :rain: on. It didn't last long; just long enuff for me to get wet before I got back indoors ...

We're having leftover roasted chicken pieces (I'm having breast) and veggies for dinner (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower) tonight; just heating it all up in the oven right now. DH just got back and is now eating a big muffin to get back some energy; he's been busy today.

If the weather stays nice like this, we will try to go up to the lot this week sometime too. Hope you all have a great week coming up; do take good care of yourselves now ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-28-2010 03:40 PM

 We had two :hot: and humid days in a row, but now we are having a nice cool one with lots of winds. It :rain: ed during the night and that made it nicer too. Have been getting things around home caught up such as laundry and floors and other light housechores. Sure is good exercise too.

My garden flowers are blooming nicely now and I can see which ones grow more easily; and the green beans are doing well too. The winds are trying to knock my little garden fences over, so DH had to fix that for me. Have been eating healthy and on plan; very happy about that. My last blood sugar test was only 5.0/80 which is very good (and that is without any Metformin).:D

We may go out to our lot/camper tomorrow if the weather is good enuff, we'll see. All this heat has killed off some of the buggies, esp the skitters, which is nice for us. Have been able to go outside after dinner watering my garden and sitting on our deck; last night I just got one bite (that's great for here).

Hope everyone is well and have a fantabulous Friday ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 07-30-2010 08:45 PM

 Well, we've been busy the last couple of days; we did go out to our camper and got lots done too. The weather was simply perfect -- nice and cool with a lovely breeze, so there were absolutely NO BUGGIES AT ALL! :carrot:

We got a lot accomplished, but were very tired by the time we got home; thank goodness, I had some leftover roasted dinner that I just popped in the oven and rested until it was ready. Today, we went to do our weekly shopping and other pickups and errands. Got lots of walking in today and that makes me very happy ... :D

We're just having a quiet night at home to rest up for now; not much planned for the weekend. It will all depend on the weather, of course. I did want to go hunting for a very, very small "weed-whacker", if I can find such a thing. I want to trim between my plants, trees, and bushes but I need something small and ez to start and handle for me and my DH. He has bad shoulders and can't use anything big and bulky.

Anyhow, hope everyone had a great week; and do have a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow1:

ronni62 07-31-2010 09:11 PM

Hello, everyone! Busy seems to be the theme for this summer-I just can't seem to catch up on anything. want to say welcome to the newcomers-glad to have you here! We've just been running and running, but not accomplishing anything and soooo much to do before DS2 leaves for college. We finally found him a refrigerator we could afford for his room-he'll have 2 roommates this year, so I'l just love to be a fly on the wall;) DS2 is used to having a room to himself, so it will be very interesting to see how things go. He has to be there to start football camp Aug. 15th already-summer has just gone way too fast and I'm definitely not ready for him to leave home:(.

DS3 has been ok'd to play football too this year, so he'll be going to the public school for 9th grade football, but will still be doing his coursework at home:). We've had some tests done to find out if he's ADD or has some other learning disability, but don't know anything yet.

DH has come down with some kind of summer illness-headache, neck and back ache, fever, nausea, so it sounds like a flu, but didn't think we'd been around anyone sick, so:?:. We're hoping to take the boys to Valleyfair this Wednesday, but will wait to see how DH is doing before buying the tickets.

Not much else to tell-we have been eating a lot of fresh veggies from our garden-tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, green beans, and cabbage. Plus, the sweet corn is ready here, so that's been yummy too!

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

Justwant2Bhealthy 08-01-2010 10:26 PM

 HIYA RONNIE ~ glad you had some time to drop by for a few minutes; always happy to hear how things are going with you and yours ... sorry, you have to go through these sad anniversaries, but you know, we used to try and remember something good about the person who passed instead of sad things.

Am sending up ^prayers^ for your DH and you that he gets over his flu bug quickly so that you all can spend some time with his mother soon, esp on her birthday. I hope that you all can have a special time, even if you have to delay it a bit; try to think of something special to do. Maybe go somewhere unique where you haven't been before, or one that you do know is kinda different and special to her. Making good memories is what it is all about.

We miss our loved ones that have gone on before, but we also remind ourselves that they are OK where they are ... no, they are actually better than OK, they are in an awesome, peaceful place where GOD and his angels reign. A lovely place that doesn't have any of the problems we have here; plus they have good health now, and all the beauty you can imagine in your mind -- in sight and sound ...

Remember, they are with GOD now and HE is in PARADISE; so are they! We must be happy for them -- I know that I am glad that my mother is not encumbered by the body she had here with all its problems. She even used to joke about that sometimes. I had some awesome dreams after my mother passed away; and I think I shared that in a thread in the Faith Forum once.

She showed me that she was in a beautiful place; a place that had all the things that she liked while she was here. It was an awesome place -- with gems embedded in the walls and it was lined with silver and gold. She was well and had no ill health at all. She was more concerned that we knew that she was OK ... that she was well and happy there. I am grateful for that vision-dream; and I really believe that it was a gift to us all.

I hope this helps you in some way ...

Well, we did go to MN and take DH's mom out for her birthday lunch-Chinese at our favorite place-mmmmmm! DH had to stay home as he was still ill and with a fever and didn't want to expose MIL (due to her chemo). It was a nice afternoon and DH got some much-needed rest. His fever was actually gone this morning and he decided to go to work, but I'm sure he's taking things slowly today;).

It's been raining off and on today again, so we ran to town to get DS3 fitted for a mouth guard for football and some grocery and college shopping. The days are getting so close and I'm crying at the drop of a hat. DS2 tells me to stop or I'll make him cry too, but I just told him to suck it up, because that's what mom's do when their kids go off to college:)

Well, I'd better get going, so I can start thinking about what to do for supper-I just get tired of cooking the same old stuff all the time, but no one else likes to try new things. Hope you all have a great day!

 RONNIE ~ ya, that is "empty nest syndrome" isn't it? I think so ... it will be hard at first, but this too will pass! :D That was so nice of you to take your MIL out for Chinese for her birthday; you are a wonderful DIL, Ronnie -- and I'm glad to hear that your DH is feeling better too. :carrot:

Sounds like good news all round and that's great! We had :rain: on and off all day long; that's great becuz I didn't have to water the flower gardens today. We stayed home and I just caught up on some laundry today. DH and I have to go to our doctor's appointments tomorrow afternoon.

I had sirloin steak and mushroom medley, with a broccoli-cabbage slaw for dinner tonight (DH had a pork steak with tators & mixed veggies). It's tea time now; and will go put my legs up for a while too.

Hope you all have a wonderful week coming up as well ... Rosebud :flow1:

 HI LADIES ~ the day started out nice and cool, so we went up town to run errands and pick up our weekly groceries; had to get some more veggies (salad stuff) and some fish today. Got lots of walking in which is always a nice bonus on shopping days.

It got much hotter as the day wore on, so we had a cool dinner with just meat and a mixed salad; picked up a spit BBQ chicken now that their machine is working again ... this is my favorite way to have chicken and very healthy too! :carrot:

DH and I went to our appointments yesterday -- and boy, I had to get really pushy to be able to go in with my hubby to see his doctor. That is very annoying to me as I had asked ahead of time too. I see no reason why a spouse cannot go in to help their partner remember stuff, esp in this case when we were there to try to find out the source of his memory problems too ... doesn't make sense to me. :?:

Anyhow, I just ignored all the  around the place and walked right in. It is odd, as my doctor doesn't mind if a couple goes in together. I think some doctors have a hang-up or feel threatened by two people in the room with them. Well, I pressed the issue and they are going to send him for some tests and to see a specialist. If they find anything, at least they may be able to give him some meds to help him a bit; and if not, we will have to come up with our own creative strategies to help him, just like we already have so far.

As for me, they will be making an appointment for me for another exam and a colonoscopy test at the hospital sometime in the near future. Not sure when that will be though. I am feeling much better this week and haven't seen any more symptoms, so maybe I am on the mend a bit ... at least, I hope and pray ...

They say it is supposed to :rain: again tomorrow, but I don't mind as then I don't have to water my gardens. The flowers have been doing pretty good too; hopefully, I will get some beans too. We have had a lot of feathered friends visiting us again lately -- our regulars plus some new flocks passing through I guess; sure nice to watch them.

Hope you all have a great week; take good care of yourselves now ... Rosebud :flow1:

 Yesterday, we went out to the country to visit friends and had a BBQ dinner as well. We took our dear Fido out so that their grandson could play with him as he is up for a summer holiday; they got along so well -- just like old pals. Kiddies and dogs; dogs and kiddies -- they just adore each other!!! :D

And, what a lovely day we had today -- we packed a small lunch and went out fishing for the afternoon ... and I was the only one who caught a fish! It was a young one about 18" long, so I set him free (catch & release) so that he can continue to grow for the future ... :) A perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon; now DH is conked from the :sunny: and he is having a nap before dinner ...

We have had a mix of :rain: and :sunny: for the last few days and RAINBOWS every day and yesterday, we had 4 or 5 in one day; never seen that before (I even got some pictures).

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend; and a pleasant week coming up -- take good care now ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 08-11-2010 06:35 PM

 HI LADIES ~ This has been another :hot: week for us; but at least it's not in the 90's, just the 80's, which is much more bearable. I don't mind this near as much. It starts off nice and cool in the night and in the AM, but gets hotter as the afternoon wears on, so by dinnertime, the kitchen is very :hot: (and that's even before I even think of starting to cook something) ...

I have been trying to think of things that I can cook quickly that won't heat up the kitchen that much; and have been switching lunch and dinner a few days. I have also been eating a bit lighter and later, and that has helped a lot. I am just trying to make up my mind about dinner right now, as it is getting close to time to make dinner. I think it may be fish of some type with some salad for me and something else for DH.

We have been busy over the last while, but the rest of the week should slow down a bit for me. I have to put my legs up to rest tonight as they are holding water again. I had a visit from TOM two months in row (shocker of shockers for me; :yikes:), but it didn't last near as long as last month.

The only thing that I can think of that I am doing differently is that I am taking 2 x 1000 gms of fish oil each week on top of my other supplements. Maybe there is some truth to that there is natural estrogen in the fish and/or fish oil; I think I read that somewhere quite a while ago now.

Think I better keep an eye on my salt intake too; I am keeping to my plan pretty good, but we did have a take-out dinner one night on the weekend, but I still stuck to my limit for the day, as I had eaten lighter earlier on and had some salad with it too, plus I shared half of it with my dear FIDO too!!!

Since then, I brain-stormed on how I can make a better choice next time as well. Planning really is important isn't it? From now on, I have a plan in mind way ahead of time; so hope it works out. I made up a bunch of salad yesterday as well; that way I can just grab it. I also have some premade slaws and I picked up a basket of tomatoes this week for a quick tomato & cuke salad as well.

Gotta go make dinner now. Hope you are all well and having a wonderful week out there; do take good care of yourselves now ... Rosebud :flow1:

Hello All,

Rosebud - Temps in the 80's do sound so nice, especially after a run of temps in the 90's. I am envious. Here in West TN we are in an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING that began on Tuesday morning & is in effect til Sunday at 8PM. Thankfully, I'm retired & can get my work around the house done in early AM & then vegetate in the hottest part of the day. I've been living on sandwiches, salads, SF ice cream & things that can be quickly heated in the microwave...plus lots & lots of ice water. A drop into the high 80's is predicted for the middle of next week. I sure hope they are right. Thank God for A/C & fans.

Justwant2Bhealthy 08-14-2010 10:20 PM

 JOYFUL ~ we had another :hot: scorcher today; well, it started off  with some :rain: but by the afternoon Mr. :sunny: had come out full force and it was so :hot: and humid in here that our de-humidifier almost overflowed on us. DH went to empty it and it was so full, he spilled some; and it had only been on for the afternoon. He just emptied it again (half-full already) so I'll get him to empty it again before bed ... it is supposed to turn itself off if it gets full but I'm not taking any chances; we don't want a flood in our bedroom where it is ...

Yes, we are very blessed to have the A/C and fans ... :)

Just stayed home this weekend and relaxed; did a bit of weeding and then I started to water the garden this AM but then it started to :rain: so I didn't need to do it all. So I got some extra exercise in today at least. I heated up leftover bbq chicken in the microwave.

Plus I cooked the other half of my spagetti squash in there too; and it only took 10 minutes, so from now on, I will be doing it in there. No need to heat up the oven for nothing; and amazingly, DH loves it. I just tossed it with a tiny bit of butter and a pinch of salt & pepper -- boy, that stuff is very low in calories, but does it every make you feel full. I'm a convert for sure; now to find a steady supply ...

Time for tea ... so have a lovely, restful Sunday tomorrow everyone ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 08-17-2010 08:33 PM

HI LADIES ~ It has cooled off quite a bit this week so far -- we have had :rain: and :sunny: on and off for the last two days, but my green beans and gladiolas are sure lovin' that; took some pics of them as well.

It is supposed to warm up as the week goes along and will be back up into the mid-80's by the weekend, if they are correct ... :)

Made a roast chicken with piles of veggies yesterday; and we had some leftovers for dinner tonight ... we love roasted veggies now -- they are sooo filling. Still have lots of veggies leftover for a few more meals and/or soup this week too.

Since it was so wet today, we decided to stay home and did a big cleaning of the house this AM; relaxed and did some reading for awhile this afternoon.

We still hope to get up to our lot this week and maybe try to pick some blueberries too, if we can. Plus, I realized today that I'd better start getting our suitcases ready for our holiday in September too; don't want to leave everything to the last minute as that would be way too nerve-wracking.

Hope you all are having a great week ... Rosebud

Justwant2Bhealthy 08-20-2010 10:51 PM

 WELL, LADIES ~ we are getting to the latter stages of our summer now; and the temps are cooling off nicely for us today (in the 70's most of the day today). Overall, I think it was a very good year really; not as many really hot days as last year (maybe a dozen or so). Nice to have it closer to the way it used to be.

Our garden has done well; my daylilies are all spent now but the gladiolas and brown-eyed Susans and Dianthus are still going strong as is the yellow Cinquefoil Bush. My beans are trying really hard to give us some beans; hope the weather holds out for them.

My Dad & SM are up for a very very short time; moving on to Manitoba to see my youngest sister, then to SM's brother in Calgary, Alberta. Hope they don't run into the smoke out there as BC has lots of fires. Mostly praying for Dad to fight off a bad flu he caught when he was here in June; he has lost some weight but wasn't trying to; not good at his age of 77 yy. We hope & pray they have a wonderful trip; we will be joining them on the way back south later on.

Finally, got our car fixed today ... again; turns out all this time it was a broken exhaust connection; the clamp fell off. This has made us so sick over the last year or so; but so glad it is all fixed for our upcoming holidays. This was the 3rd garage we took it to for the same thing; but DH helped them find the cause so it only cost us $10.61 for the clamp & 10 minutes of labor. Yahoo ... :D

Hope everyone out there has a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 08-24-2010 07:38 PM

 HI LADIES ~ Well, it's been a good news; sad news; and odd news day ... The sad news is we found out the reason our old neighbour died (he was only 61 y/o) -- he died of food poisoning. He had bought some Keilbasa sausage meat at our local department store that was bad. He ate it that day and got very sick and died on the way to the hospital. We have been praying for his wife and family ever since. His daughter was so lost; wandering the street crying her heart out -- so very sad; but at least now they know what happened and they have decided to move back to his wife's home town where family and friends and community will help them pick up the pieces of their lives once again.

The odd news is that my Dad & SM came by and informed us that they are not sure my sister NUMPSTER is expecting us as we thought; they think she has the place booked up into September now. I did try to contact her and never got a reply, so was a bit surprised by that. I am going to try and call her in person again to see what is going on as we are starting to feel like a yo-yo here. Gotta get this all sorted out OR we may just go somewhere else for a short holiday instead.

The good news is that we had a lovely day; the :sunny: was shining with lots of nice breeze all day. Our neighbor out at our lot cut our grass for us as he knew we had to get our car fixed. We were going to go out tomorrow to do that, but my Dad said that we don't need to now.

My Dad looks and sounds better; and they decided to stay here instead of going out west. He said that they may just tour around the north for awhile but that they may stay here another week or so yet. So there's no rush for me to pack after all ...

I felt really hungry yesterday and really kept wanting to munch for some reason; managed to keep my evening snack to proteins and went to bed earlier than usual. I was able to stay under my calorie cap and I'm glad for that at least.

Supposed to be good weather this week, so we may go do something just for the heck of it anyways. Time to make some plans. Take good care now ... Rosebud :flow1:

I have found this thread kinda late. I am glad to have found it. There are days that I feel really discouraged. I have adult onset myotonic muscular dystrophy. I was diagnosed right before my 30th birthday. It has been 8 years and now more symptoms are appearing every year. I do try and do everything I can by myself. It is hard for me to slow down. I have always been athletic and outdoorsy but having this does limit what I can do anymore.

I do Zumba every week. I do have to modify it a little. I also enjoy working in my garden and I will miss that when it cools down. We have a small herb garden and a good size vegetable garden. We usually can tomatoes and green beans but didn't get to that this year. I will miss those things this winter. We were able to freeze some sweet corn this year.

Sorry if I sound like I am pitying myself. I try not to and just do what I can do.

Justwant2Bhealthy 08-27-2010 06:08 PM

:welcome3: RED AUTUMN ~ it's never too late to join this thread; I am glad you found it. Your name reminded me that Autumn must be here now or very shortly. Not sure if it officially starts around the 21st or what; guess I could start a new fall thread soon. ;)

Good for you for focusing on the positive -- what you can do; not the limitations. That is really why I started this thread in the first place ~ so that those of us who have some challenges can focus on our successes. We do not perceive ourselves as victims, but as victors or overcomers really.

I am also into gardening; I am picking my green beans right now. So far, I have one large bag, but I will get some more yet. I found that green beans grow well along our west-side beds so will be growing those again for sure. I didn't try tomatoes this year as we can get them for a pretty good price these days. I think that's becuz there are so many more year-round sources than in the past.

We had some :rain: earlier today, but the :sunny: is shining on us full force at this moment. Time to go get dinner ready right now; it is our Friday Fun Night so we are having hamburglers (I am having salad with mine which I prepared yesterday). We had fish last night.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2behealthy~Thanks for the welcome!

It is so dry here. We had planned to plant more green beans. It is a good thing we didn't because they wouldn't have been any good because of the dryness here. Our yard is turning brown. I hate it when it gets like that. We need rain so badly here. I have had to start watering my flowers every night for the last couple weeks.

I did go shopping Saturday so it was good to walk around the mall. I just wish my husband would not keep pointing out when I am limping. I don't notice when I do it and it doesn't bother me, so just let it go. I know he is concerned but the limping really doesn't bother me.

I had a good night last night and a good morning this morning with my kindergartener. I hope she can keep it up this afternoon. She thinks school is boring (they are reveiwing), and doesn't like it. I am hoping in another couple weeks she will like it better. They will start learning more and not reveiwing so much. I am hoping this week will be better than previously. We have had some rough mornings. I thought she was a morning person but after these weeks maybe not.
