 HI ~ had to go to the dentist this AM; just for a cleaning and a check-up and everything seems A-OK right now ... :carrot:
Then DH and I went hunting for some things that we forgot for the camper and we really lucked out on some good deals. We found a new grill for our BBQ as well as a special pan to cook on it with; and our tank was still partly full but the guy filled it up anyways. DH just has to press the starter more and put the gas at full on ... it has been so long since we used it that he/we forgot ... ;) It was very :hot: here again today; and they are expecting that for tomorrow too, then it should  down with some :rain: for us. We may get to go up to the lot more after this week, as the long-range forecast is predicting cooler weather. That would be great for DH as a young neighbor has offered to help him finish putting the shingles on the roof. DH somehow got into some poison oak or something like that recently; had to get some meds today. So, we have to get all the grass around the edges of our lot trimmed when we go up there next. I think the weed-whacker would be very helpful with that job, so we'll see if it comes out or not. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow1: |
:welcome: to our thread, JASIKA ~ that is a pretty name ... yes, this thread is for those of us who have a few physical challenges, but we don't let them get in our way! We keep pressing on and looking for ways around them on our journey back to good health. Hope to see you come by and visit us now and then too.
I can eat the harder cheeses, like curds and probably buttermilk too, and yogurt and yogurt ice cream -- I just can't drink the regular milk as I have LACTOSE INTOLERANCE ... which leads to the "fox trots" right pronto. Well, as I mentioned earlier, I may pick up some of those pills that help digest the milk proteins; now if I could just remember to do that (I haven't been near the drug store lately). ;) We had a nice day up at our lot; we hired a young man to help us and he finished off shingling the porch roof for us (DH is sooo happy about that and so am I). I got some walking in myself marking off my trees and bushes today. Nice weather today; :sunny: and :cloud9:, then some :rain: this evening to  things off for us. Hope everyone out there has a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Hi All,
After reading through some of the Physical Challenges threads, I wanted to introduce myself. You all seem to have such positive attitudes & determination. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis about 10 years ago, & have been unable to take the more effective disease modifying drugs that keep the permanent damage to joints somewhat controlled. The result is that my functioning is somewhat impaired, so very low impact exercizes designed to maintain range of motion as much as possible are about all I can manage. I feel very blessed that I am still able to do as much as I can. This does mean, however, that weight loss has been very slow. |
:welcome3: JOYFUL ~ we are glad that you decided to stop in and post in our thread; and I hope some things in our threads can help you in some way too. We do understand how physical conditions can slow us down. It has taken me some time to lose my weight, but that is OK ... I have read many times that the slower you lose, the more likely you will keep it off; and that is fine with me ... :D
We had a busy day out at our lot and got lots done once I got DH organized that is ... boy, he sure has trouble with concentrating on one task (which is one of the issues he has). He flits from thing to thing like a 6 year old boy would; or a bird ... However, we got a lot done anyways. We had hired some help but they never showed up ... :?: So we rolled up our sleeves and did it ourselves. It took us all day, and I am exhausted and very sore and very tired; but just think of all the calories I burned up today. We just had leftovers for dinner tonight; yeah for leftovers! Overall it was a great day; but I did get stung by a wasp today; actually, I got one really nasty sting and two smaller ones as I shot one wasp out of my dress and out of the trailer. I may have accidentally stepped on a nest when were looking for a place to plant a berry bush. We finally decided to put them on the south side of the trailer as that would make good shade for it down the road. I hope you all had a great day out there too; tomorrow is a rest day for me and I have to go to the doctors as well. Take care ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Thanks for the welcome & the inspiration, Rosebud.
I sure hope you had a nice day of rest after all that hard work you did. Pacing myself is one of the hardest things for me to learn. Learning to do as much as I can without pushing too far and ending up in bed for a few days is a challenge in stewardship that I continually struggling with. Thankfully, in His great love, God is very gentle & patient with this slow learner. Losing weight has also been a slow process for me, but slow is okay & I am just grateful that it's happening. |
 JOYFUL ~ yes, I do the same thing sometimes; tend to overdo it now & then and pay for it. On the days I feel good, I want to do as much as I can; I hope that I am learning to keep a better balance -- we have a rule now that if we do something one day, we have to take the next one or two off to rest ... it is working out well.
Just went to the docs yesterday and have to get some tests done; but at least I have an idea what it is. I used to have chronic IBS and diarrhea daily; but with the change in my eating style, I have swung completely the other way and had some side effects of that. The doc still wants me to have a colonoscopy becuz of my age and our family history of colon cancer. Yesterday AM, we moved my BEE BALM plant to another place by itself as my research says that it is a spreader; and I planted the last four BLACK OR BROWN-EYED SUSANS (or Goldstrum Rudbeckias). I also planted a late crop of green beans to replace the spinach which is now over. We were supposed to have thunderstorms today; but they haven't shown up just yet ... maybe they'll come later or not at all. Well, gotta go get some small housechores done; I already have a roast and veggies prepare for dinner -- just have to turn the oven on later. Have a great day, ladies ... Rosebud :flow1: |
 After such a busy day yesterday, I just took today off and rested doing whatever I wanted most of the day. I spent some time on my PC reading and catching up on stuff that I had missed, like reading my email.
The weather started off with some :rain: but now the clouds have cleared and the :sunny: is out and things are warming up. I actually liked the cooler temps though ... felt nice; great for sleeping too. Had roasted chicken breasts with veggies and a cuke/tomato salad for dinner tonight; nice and healthy. Doing really well lately sticking to my plan; my sugars are doing better too, as a result, I'm sure. I took out some food to our birdies and gave them a little grain treat; they are having fun chasing each other all over the place for the food. It's fun to watch their antics; and the babies are just squalking up a storm ... ;) Hope you are all having wonderful weekend; the last full one for July. Take good care and enjoy your summer ... Rosebud :flow1: |
 Well, this has turned out to be a lovely :sunny: day after all; almost an ideal summer day -- with a nice breeze and lots of fluffy white clouds to keep it from getting too hot. Couldn't ask for more on a Sunday really ... :D
I just stayed home and enjoyed basking and reading out on our deck while DH did his thing switching our trailers around, you know -- guy stuff. I went out to take a picture of the painted daisies as they are now starting to bloom, but just as I did, I got :rain: on. It didn't last long; just long enuff for me to get wet before I got back indoors ... We're having leftover roasted chicken pieces (I'm having breast) and veggies for dinner (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower) tonight; just heating it all up in the oven right now. DH just got back and is now eating a big muffin to get back some energy; he's been busy today. If the weather stays nice like this, we will try to go up to the lot this week sometime too. Hope you all have a great week coming up; do take good care of yourselves now ... Rosebud :flow1: |
 We had two :hot: and humid days in a row, but now we are having a nice cool one with lots of winds. It :rain: ed during the night and that made it nicer too. Have been getting things around home caught up such as laundry and floors and other light housechores. Sure is good exercise too.
My garden flowers are blooming nicely now and I can see which ones grow more easily; and the green beans are doing well too. The winds are trying to knock my little garden fences over, so DH had to fix that for me. Have been eating healthy and on plan; very happy about that. My last blood sugar test was only 5.0/80 which is very good (and that is without any Metformin).:D We may go out to our lot/camper tomorrow if the weather is good enuff, we'll see. All this heat has killed off some of the buggies, esp the skitters, which is nice for us. Have been able to go outside after dinner watering my garden and sitting on our deck; last night I just got one bite (that's great for here). Hope everyone is well and have a fantabulous Friday ... Rosebud :flow1: |
 Well, we've been busy the last couple of days; we did go out to our camper and got lots done too. The weather was simply perfect -- nice and cool with a lovely breeze, so there were absolutely NO BUGGIES AT ALL! :carrot:
We got a lot accomplished, but were very tired by the time we got home; thank goodness, I had some leftover roasted dinner that I just popped in the oven and rested until it was ready. Today, we went to do our weekly shopping and other pickups and errands. Got lots of walking in today and that makes me very happy ... :D We're just having a quiet night at home to rest up for now; not much planned for the weekend. It will all depend on the weather, of course. I did want to go hunting for a very, very small "weed-whacker", if I can find such a thing. I want to trim between my plants, trees, and bushes but I need something small and ez to start and handle for me and my DH. He has bad shoulders and can't use anything big and bulky. Anyhow, hope everyone had a great week; and do have a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Hello, everyone! Busy seems to be the theme for this summer-I just can't seem to catch up on anything. want to say welcome to the newcomers-glad to have you here! We've just been running and running, but not accomplishing anything and soooo much to do before DS2 leaves for college. We finally found him a refrigerator we could afford for his room-he'll have 2 roommates this year, so I'l just love to be a fly on the wall;) DS2 is used to having a room to himself, so it will be very interesting to see how things go. He has to be there to start football camp Aug. 15th already-summer has just gone way too fast and I'm definitely not ready for him to leave home:(.
DS3 has been ok'd to play football too this year, so he'll be going to the public school for 9th grade football, but will still be doing his coursework at home:). We've had some tests done to find out if he's ADD or has some other learning disability, but don't know anything yet. DH has come down with some kind of summer illness-headache, neck and back ache, fever, nausea, so it sounds like a flu, but didn't think we'd been around anyone sick, so:?:. We're hoping to take the boys to Valleyfair this Wednesday, but will wait to see how DH is doing before buying the tickets. Not much else to tell-we have been eating a lot of fresh veggies from our garden-tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, green beans, and cabbage. Plus, the sweet corn is ready here, so that's been yummy too! Hope everyone's having a nice weekend! |
 HIYA RONNIE ~ glad you had some time to drop by for a few minutes; always happy to hear how things are going with you and yours ... sorry, you have to go through these sad anniversaries, but you know, we used to try and remember something good about the person who passed instead of sad things.
Am sending up ^prayers^ for your DH and you that he gets over his flu bug quickly so that you all can spend some time with his mother soon, esp on her birthday. I hope that you all can have a special time, even if you have to delay it a bit; try to think of something special to do. Maybe go somewhere unique where you haven't been before, or one that you do know is kinda different and special to her. Making good memories is what it is all about. We miss our loved ones that have gone on before, but we also remind ourselves that they are OK where they are ... no, they are actually better than OK, they are in an awesome, peaceful place where GOD and his angels reign. A lovely place that doesn't have any of the problems we have here; plus they have good health now, and all the beauty you can imagine in your mind -- in sight and sound ... Remember, they are with GOD now and HE is in PARADISE; so are they! We must be happy for them -- I know that I am glad that my mother is not encumbered by the body she had here with all its problems. She even used to joke about that sometimes. I had some awesome dreams after my mother passed away; and I think I shared that in a thread in the Faith Forum once. She showed me that she was in a beautiful place; a place that had all the things that she liked while she was here. It was an awesome place -- with gems embedded in the walls and it was lined with silver and gold. She was well and had no ill health at all. She was more concerned that we knew that she was OK ... that she was well and happy there. I am grateful for that vision-dream; and I really believe that it was a gift to us all. I hope this helps you in some way ... |
Well, we did go to MN and take DH's mom out for her birthday lunch-Chinese at our favorite place-mmmmmm! DH had to stay home as he was still ill and with a fever and didn't want to expose MIL (due to her chemo). It was a nice afternoon and DH got some much-needed rest. His fever was actually gone this morning and he decided to go to work, but I'm sure he's taking things slowly today;).
It's been raining off and on today again, so we ran to town to get DS3 fitted for a mouth guard for football and some grocery and college shopping. The days are getting so close and I'm crying at the drop of a hat. DS2 tells me to stop or I'll make him cry too, but I just told him to suck it up, because that's what mom's do when their kids go off to college:) Well, I'd better get going, so I can start thinking about what to do for supper-I just get tired of cooking the same old stuff all the time, but no one else likes to try new things. Hope you all have a great day! |
 RONNIE ~ ya, that is "empty nest syndrome" isn't it? I think so ... it will be hard at first, but this too will pass! :D That was so nice of you to take your MIL out for Chinese for her birthday; you are a wonderful DIL, Ronnie -- and I'm glad to hear that your DH is feeling better too. :carrot:
Sounds like good news all round and that's great! We had :rain: on and off all day long; that's great becuz I didn't have to water the flower gardens today. We stayed home and I just caught up on some laundry today. DH and I have to go to our doctor's appointments tomorrow afternoon. I had sirloin steak and mushroom medley, with a broccoli-cabbage slaw for dinner tonight (DH had a pork steak with tators & mixed veggies). It's tea time now; and will go put my legs up for a while too. Hope you all have a wonderful week coming up as well ... Rosebud :flow1: |
 HI LADIES ~ the day started out nice and cool, so we went up town to run errands and pick up our weekly groceries; had to get some more veggies (salad stuff) and some fish today. Got lots of walking in which is always a nice bonus on shopping days.
It got much hotter as the day wore on, so we had a cool dinner with just meat and a mixed salad; picked up a spit BBQ chicken now that their machine is working again ... this is my favorite way to have chicken and very healthy too! :carrot: DH and I went to our appointments yesterday -- and boy, I had to get really pushy to be able to go in with my hubby to see his doctor. That is very annoying to me as I had asked ahead of time too. I see no reason why a spouse cannot go in to help their partner remember stuff, esp in this case when we were there to try to find out the source of his memory problems too ... doesn't make sense to me. :?: Anyhow, I just ignored all the  around the place and walked right in. It is odd, as my doctor doesn't mind if a couple goes in together. I think some doctors have a hang-up or feel threatened by two people in the room with them. Well, I pressed the issue and they are going to send him for some tests and to see a specialist. If they find anything, at least they may be able to give him some meds to help him a bit; and if not, we will have to come up with our own creative strategies to help him, just like we already have so far. As for me, they will be making an appointment for me for another exam and a colonoscopy test at the hospital sometime in the near future. Not sure when that will be though. I am feeling much better this week and haven't seen any more symptoms, so maybe I am on the mend a bit ... at least, I hope and pray ... They say it is supposed to :rain: again tomorrow, but I don't mind as then I don't have to water my gardens. The flowers have been doing pretty good too; hopefully, I will get some beans too. We have had a lot of feathered friends visiting us again lately -- our regulars plus some new flocks passing through I guess; sure nice to watch them. Hope you all have a great week; take good care of yourselves now ... Rosebud :flow1: |
