August Thyroid Thread
hi guys.
im very discouraged. its taken near 2 mo to lose 4 1/2 pounds:( |
At least it is going down, even if it is slow. How much do you have to lose? The closer you get to goal, the harder it gets. Chin up, you're doing good! Just think how much you could have gained.
|
Hi, guys. Another weekend is here. I have added a Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc supplement that my doctor recommended and I think I'm doing better. I actually lost 1 pound this week! I've been on the supplement 3 weeks. It's just OTC. I take it once a day in the evening with dinner (because of the calcium). Supposed to be good for thyroid.
I hope it's cooler and wetter where you are - humidity, upper 90's and drought here. Can't really stand to go outside. |
hey susan!
congrats!!!! i only lost half&getting really depressed. have qa great weekend all:) |
susan- i still have over 50 to go:(
|
Hi Girls,
Just popped in to let you know I have had m second massage session. The first session helped my breathing and releived my very bad hayfever. During the week I found I could turn my head to look over my shoulder as you do in driving I have not been able to do that for over 2 years, I am thrilled to bits its very expensive if it works who cares. The second one seems to have lifted me out of my bad depression and my friends say I look much brighter. I have yet to see if she has relieved any further bits of me, but I think my pain is not quite severe. I will see how I go over the weekend because it took a fews for my neck too free itself. Will keep you posted on progress. She has suggested I wear a magnet on my thyroid as it might help it, have any of you done anything like that and if so did it help. I will try anything if I can get without the pain of ME. It makes you so weak. regards Vivienne UK |
hey viv
glad you look foward to your massages, thats great. if its worth it to you, then who cares about the $ right? |
Hi, ladies! I had a good weekend - taught 2 quilting classes which definitely kept me out of the kitchen...and its something I love to do. Staying OP 24/7. Vi, glad the massage is helping you. We have a massage therapist moving into our building where I work. Maybe I'll see how much she charges and try it. I don't see how wearing a magnet on your thyroid is going to help it. I think some of that stuff is mind over matter but we don't realize it. When they do these studies for new drugs and stuff some of the participants that are getting placebos report doing and feeling better. Who knows. I'd try anything that wasn't going to endanger my health futher and a magnet surely isn't going to do that. Let us know.
Andrea, I know it is discouraging to lose so slowly. It took me a couple of years to get to goal, too. Hang in there! |
great susan! sounds like fun:)
im doing ok, im experimenting with a higher fat level. hope all is well. |
Hi Girls,
Thats what I thought it cant do any harm at least no more so than sittingin front of computer does anyway. Its all to do with electronic fields which I know nothing about. I have a bangle thats supposed to help arthrytis but it doesnt so it will be just like that. I am not going to buy one anyway but am really impressed with the massage it has helped up to now other people have noticed a change in me. I am still in pain but can handle it better as I am not so down. We have a thunderstorm raging outside so had better unplug before it goes up. bye Viv |
viv-
do u have a protector thingy that protects the phone line? |
I'm a network administrator for a large computer network. Unless you have a backup power supply connected to your computer, it is best to turn it off during storms. You are correct, Andrea, the surge protector must also have a separate line to protect the phone line for the modem. We once lost 8 computers to a surge that came through the phone line - in the days before the protectors (I go back a long way).
Right now, I'd even take a storm to get some rain. Virginia is having a terrible drought. |
wow! that sounds cool susan!!!
im hanging in there, i think. had a tough time at the chiropractor last night, i was in a depressed state after bein in my back brace most of the day, yay. have my case related monthly dr appt tomorrow, not lookin fwd to that at all. it stresses me out too much&i get upset. |
Hi Andrea,
Sorry your massage not having good effects like mine is. The best thing about it all so far is I am coming right out of clinical depression whiich I have had for 10 years. Each morning I wake up and feel happier. Even though it costs such a lot to me I will keep it up because have never more at peace with myself. It weigh in next Tuesday dont think I have lost anything but for once I dnt care. To think I could have had this years ago and would not go saying it was quacks stuff. Oh the ignorant woman. I only have one phone line most brits do unless you are rich. Did switch off and unplug at first long distance rumble I heard it lasted about 4 hours and there was a lot of flash flooding Viv |
thanks viv,
but i dont get massaged the way you do, i just call one of the things he does a massage(he uses this machine, i think called a G5) it does feel really good, as does the electric stimulation. its just the actual ajustment afterwards a cant stand. glad are doing so well. |
hi all,
going to the gym and eating better hasn't been going all that well. the gym part is easy, but that horrid snack table at work is evil. it stares at me right through my office door. and those stupid famous amos mini cookies scream my name. today was better though. i was on a caffeine rush last night, and i made up a bunch of meals and labeled them with their points. i feel happier knowing i have about 8 potential lunches in the freezer, so i don't have to think of anything too complicated before going to work. i got a honey-sesame tofu brick at the store, and it was really yummy. i thought i would be awful, but it wasn't. and the herbed rice mix i got at trader joes was equally good. have a good week all! |
hang in there trixie:)

Can I ask a question???
I have a underactive throyid and have been reading alot about the eat right 4 your blood type diet. It states for my blood type that I should drink soy milk. I thought I had read somewhere that this is not recommended for people like me. Has anyone else heard this? Also I heard it about green tea too.
Thank you in advance for your help. |
Soy is not recommended for hypos. A good website is www.thyroid.about.com for more about this and other foods to be avoided, plus a wealth of other information. Green tea is good for everyone. I've switched from coffee to it and feel better. I particularly like the Bigelow Earl Grey Green Tea.
Please keep posting...we all help each other. |
Thanks for the info
I actually went to my Dr's last night to get retested. I have been hypo for 13 years and my med's have only been changed once, I got the shakes and heart palp's so I was put back on my original doseage so I am being retested. I did also get a script for a little higher doseage I hope that will help. I have gainned alot of weight latley and I am hoping it is my thyroid and not the bags of chips I have been eatting.....lol just kidding.
Quilter, wow you have lost so much weight that is awesome, have you lost it all while being treated for hypo? Everything I read says that it is almost impossible to hypo's to lose weight even with treatment. I am very discouraged with this info. Has anyone else lost weight while being treated? |
hang in there hockey. i lost nothing this week&binged last night but will do better today.
|
I was first diagnosed more than 30 years ago so it is possible to lose weight. It will be slow and take diligence. My lifesaver was working with a nutritionist and developing a plan I could live with. I limit starches to 4 servings a day. Many hypos are insulin resistant and this is one reason it is difficult to lose. I use low fat or fat free protein sources for 8 servings daily, 2 fruit, 2 milk, 3 fat and fill in with tons of veggies. I drink plenty of water, limit use of sweeteners and avoid soft drinks. I have at least 1 cup of green tea every day. If I deviate from this, I gain and we all know how fast we can pile on the pounds. I walk 1 mile every day and do whatever other exercise I can get in - most days none. It's extremely important to add exercise in some form but it has to be an amount you can keep up forever, not 3 hours of aerobics 5 times a week and then stop when you reach goal. I have been up and down with my dosages of Levoxyl and just am sure to have it check every 6 months or when I feel I'm having symptoms again. You might ask about adding Cymotel if you are having a lot of trouble losing.

go susan!:)
|
Hi all,
Hockeychick, I am also on the ER4YT blood type (O) diet and I use rice milk. It is impossible for me to lose weight. Right now I am just trying to be healthy and exercise as much as I can. |
Okay, where is everyone today? Are we all hiding out because we had a bad weekend - I sort of did. Didn't gain anything and really only overate on the good stuff...just didn't pay attention to portion sizes and those messages my brain was sending to say it was full. Back on track today.
How about we start us a little challenge from Labor Day to the end of the year? Set your own goals for that time and we report in once a week on our progress. Had my TSH levels checked on Saturday so I'm waiting for the results. I don't think they'll be good. |
TSH Results
OK I got my TSH results back today and have not yet seen my Doctor to go over the results but it was 2.67 and I am currently on 100 mcg of Elthroxin but got a prescription before I got the results for 112 mcg that I will get filled tomorrow... Do you all think this is a acceptable level or am I one of the tons of people being undertreated for my hypo?
Thanks for your help |
hi sus!
im here. had a tough weekend with pain. |
QUILTERINVA Glad you are staying on program 24/7. Viv. Hope you enjoy the massages. I know it relaxes me a lot when I get one. Andrea I hope you are doing better. I was 183 lbs. for almost 2 weeks and now I'm finally down two pounds , 181 now. I have been drinking a ton of water and swimming 30 minutes a day. Hi Girls,
Have not been doing too good the last couple of days, its my birthday in 2 days time and it brings to mind that none of my family care about me as I never see or hear from them. Not knoowing where any of my family are I feel like I have no roots and belong nowhere. I do try to keep cheerful but just times like these I feel so sad. I am having another massage on the morning of my birthday so may feel better after it. the last one left me feeling very dizzy and had to spend Friday in bed. I have bought myself a leather rocking chair for my biirthday and its very nice and soft for my sore bones. Not doing at all well with my diet or should say lack of it still try and get back on track. Vivienne Tizme2000 |
Vivienne, HAPPY BIRTHDAY...may the coming year be better for you healthwise. I, too, have no close family. My parents and grandparents died when I was in my 20's, I have no children so it's me and my husband who is also an only child with few cousins. I know it does hurt at times, especially birthdays and holidays. I love my rocking chair. I sit and read and rock in the evening. I don't watch much tv anymore.
|
Thank you Quilter for birthday wishes. I had four children but they are too busy trying to get on to bother anymore about me. I was told quite bluntly not to waste any time or money on Christmas cards etc as they dont read them. I am not going to anymore either they never ever get in touch with me. Dont know what I will do tomorrow but will think of something so wont be on my own. Did not lose any weight this month stayed the same not pleased with myself at all.
