Meme - Glad your life has slowed down just a tad:lol: You wouldn't know what to do with yourself if you had time on your hands. I hope your Mom is doing well. How is Ross doing these days? Also, your other little grandson.

Serenity - Well yesterday was weigh-in day. How did you do? I am losing weight so slowly it is very disheartening. I have to try to try to get some exercise in - SOMEHOW!!! Walking isn't always good for me, because of my darn hip. I will figure it out, sooner or later. I also have a problem with meds. Most of them don't like me, and then I end up with more pain especially in the stomach! I have Darvon, but I feel like a drunk must feel when I wake up in the morning. I can't stand that stuff. I have Tylenol 3 and 282MEPS if I really need something. It isn't often. Since I started going to the Upper Cervical Chiro, I feel a whole lot better. I still have my days, but they are getting further and further apart.

Joanne - Hi Joanne. Is the Dr. sending you for PT then? The brace might help for support, but it also keeps heat on the knee. I don't know how you stand this hot weather. It was 90+ here yesterday and today is going to be just as hot. My joints feel like they are swollen and I have been drinking everything I can get my hands on:dizzy:

Mima - I sure wish I had AC the past few days. It usually never gets this hot here. We have lots of summers where it never gets to 90 - and that is in July or August - certainly not JUNE. I really hate to complain about the weather when it is so nice, but golly it makes me not feel so good! I like it around 75 with a slight breeze. I am also pretty fair, so I burn really easily.

Ally - It is so hard to be in an office where food is available. It kind of calls your name out, doesn't it:lol:

Meme - that was an interesting article. I am certainly not an apple or a pear. Thank goodness that I was designed pretty evenly.

Happy- I don't know if Canada rocks. I have never been there and might never get there.I hear that it is a really pretty place.We are in the 80-90's now too. I have just made my first appt. with PT for Tuesday next week. I don't feel that this is going to be the answer but I guess we have to justify that everything has been tried before I agree to surgery. I really don't want to go that route this year.

That's funny...you just don't know my mom! She wouldn't let a high school girl inside her house! She wouldn't even let the PT guy in...had to come down here to do her exercises 3 times a week! She's afraid someone will track in dirt!!! Hubby says that's why she won't eat...she won't cook because she's afraid she'll get her stove dirty! :lol:

Well...I'm back to working 2 days a week plus cooking dinner for Mom most nights but it's still good to have my house back! Hubby called me this morning and said his boss had offered to let us use his HUGE houseboat the week of our Anniversary! I'm excited!!! Also, I got an email from a school chum I hadn't heard from in about 35 years! We were really close at one time...we spent the night at each other's houses and everything. We were still in touch up until I had my son. I moved and we kind of lost each other. She is in Texas now. I'm really glad to have found her. That's the second school friend I've found through ClassMates. The other one sent me an email yesterday and said she was going to be in Tennessee in September and wanted us to meet! Hope I can make it!!!

Candice...hope you are having a nice trip and not getting too tired. Joanne...I refuse to do PT on my knees...they go out of place and I've had several different Drs. tell me the wrong exercises can make them worse...I don't need anything to "knock me off my feet" right now! With Mom the way she is and my daughter having to move into a new house...what would I do if I couldn't walk!?! :?: I have an appointment at the Rheumatologist in Nashville next Tuesday and then I'm starting back to PT for my neck, shoulders, back and arms the week after that.

Anne...how in the world are you making it without airconditioning? At 90 degrees...I'd die!

Meme - I am spending LOTS of time in the mall:lol: We don't usually need airconditioning because it usually never gets this hot. Last time it did was 4 years ago!! And that was first for many years. It usually gets to 80, but I find 75 with a light breeze just right. I am sweating away the pounds. I keep drinking and I never sweat, but boy, this is really bringing it all out:lol I am dying! The only hope, is that tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler.

Meme...thanks for the site on cleaning keyboard. Gotta do it. It is still sticking. My son has been eating food in here....
Happy...have you ever done water aerobics? I have just make walking an obsession. BUT, I wake up in the night and my hips ache so bad I have to go take something.

Meme- I don't have much faith in the PT at this point. I too am afraid that this is just going to make the knee slip out and be very painful. I just guess that I have to do this so the DR. can understand/justify that I have tried everything. If it just gets me through this year then I will tell him I am sick of it and get my referal.You are working on your star in Heavan. Mothers can be difficult. I try really hard not to be difficult for my kids. I know that sometimes that isn't easy for us. We are human and are bound to thinking is not always on the same tract.
Happy- So you are spending a lot of time in the mall. I would be spending money. My hubby makes every effort to keep me out of the malls.:lol:
Ally- I had PT /water for my back. I don't think it did too much for the back but it did a lot for my spirits. I loved it. I would give almost anything for a pool of my own.

Hi girls

Thanks for asking and yes I did ok I am down over 7 lbs now. I will have to really watch it this week with company etc and eating out.

We are having very hot weather - the thermometer in my back yard was at around 37-8 yesterday - likely around 100 F.

Our deck is s l o w l e y getting done. Much too hot to work out
there.

Glad to know that I am not the only one waking with hip/leg problems. I take an 8 hr tylenol before bed but still usually wake up about 5 am from my hip/thigh pain.

I have a simple exercise that helps but unfortunately don't always remember to do it.

So far this week even with eating out etc I am ok on my points. Once you get onto this it is not so hard.

Having BBQ/weinnie roast for Canada Day and hoping to get
boards nailed down on deck by then.

Bean Salad
 

Well, I seem to be here on this thread all by myself! Where did everyone go?

Here is a recipe I got from ww on Wednesday. Serenity - good weight loss. I lost .6 Ha! It has been so hot that I am retaining fluid. Can't even have my rings on.

Bean Salad - 1 C = 1 Pt

1 14oz can yellow beans
1 14oz can green beans
1 14oz can kidney beans
1/2 diced green pepper
2 diced celery stalks
2 Tbsp dried minced onion
2/3 C apple cider vinegar (I used regular vinegar)
1/3 C Splenda
2 T extra virgin olive oil (can use 1 TBSP - I think it would be fine)
1 Tsp. salt
1/4 Tsp. pepper

Drain beans. In large bowl, mix all ingredients well. Let stand overnight in fridge. Keeps for several days.

Makes 8 Cups

You can use 1/3 C sugar, but don't forget to add in the points.
Also, if you use only 1 TBSP of oil, don't forget to deduct.

Chocolate Muffins
 

These are good, although my husband didn't like them much. My girlfriend made them and quite enjoyed them. They take care of chocolate cravings.

CHOCOLATE MUFFINS - 2 points

1 1/2 C Flour
3/4 C Sugar
1/4 C Cocoa
2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 C nonfat unsweetened yogurt
2/3 C skim milk (or 1/4C fat free powdered milk and 2/3 C
water
1 tsp vanilla

Mix dry ingredients. Stir in yogurt, milk and vanilla. Mix just until combined and moistened. Divide batter evenly in 12 lined muffin cups. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Is it hot in Canada? Today it is just getting really bad...tomorrow will be 90. I am in a flair up. But I took a long walk anyway. My dog is so tired...he couldn't even get in the car.

Hi Ally. This has been the hottest week. Over 90 for the first 4 days, and then down close to 80. We don't have any air conditioning, only a hard working fan. This heat makes me hurt. It is far to hot for me:cool: It looks like it is going to rain tonight. The sky is black as heck, but it has been before and all we get is wind.

Is it Hot ???? Yesterday the radio said with humidity it is equivalent to 45C which is about 118.4F. My backyard therm. is always about 5 deg. hotter than the official one. We are just dying here.

Would live in the mall if I didn't have a/c. When my kids were small I was just like Happy - no malls then but spent the day strolling the aisles of Woolco in those days.

You would think some of the lbs. would just sweat off - never drank so much water in my life. Didn't eat much on Thurs or Fri but made up yest. as kids ordered Chick. & pizza. I took the skin off my chicken that should count for something.

Temp is supposed to drop today - it went down to 27 C or 80.6F overnite. It was supposed to rain but all we got so far is the distant thunder.

We are not used to this humidity but so far my asthma meds are doing a good job. Many people rushing to emergency with breathing problems. Many people passing out from the heat on the street and stores etc.

Happy - I have copied and pasted your little poems for future use. Really appreciate your efforts.

I had a good 3 days in Hadley-no more Northampton-they built a new building and we have to stay at a different hotel. The new one has muffins and coffee for breakfast-I'll have to take my own breakfast of oatmeal and banana.We went to see the yaya sisterhood movie-I cried through half of it because it was about abuse and mother-daughter conflict. It's an awesome movie-great acting!!!And i think crying is cathartic. Gotta get ready for the church picnic. My son is on his way here!!!!!Gonna see Alison. Mima

Weekends are slow as usual.. My daughter was here for a few days and went home this A.M.
Happy -It is really muggy here .Rain all around. When it rains in the daytime it is just as hot after and humid.

Joanne and Happy......I think I can take a freezing winter day better than I can this heat. I have done almost nothing. Yet, I am uncomfortable just laying on the couch in front of the fan. It was rare that people had air conditioning here in upstate NY...no one had it when I was growing up. Now I can hear the buzz in the air when I go outside. And I wonder what those people are doing inside. I feel like such a slug. I could go sit in the shade, but my lawn chair kills me. I can't get out of it...too low.

Meme - Where in the world have you gotten to now? I just read that book 'The Manhattan 100 Club'. That was pretty good. I read a lot and can never really remember the name of the book, so I hope I got it right.

Ally - I agree - I would rather have the cold UNTIL it is here and then I would rather have the warm. However, 90 is way to hot. I am quite comfortable at 75 or so. At least when it is really hot, I am not hungry.

I made the bean salad and the potato salad and both were good.

Tomorrow is Canada Day, my kids are home, and we are going to the lake. If it is really nice, we will take along a picnic lunch, if not we will just go and let Ashley play in the sand and in the water for a little while.

It is really hot and humid here, too. I'm hurting really, really bad. Serenity-great weight loss. OK girls-it's catching up with me-the lbs. Gotta get back on track-BIG projects done. Been overdoing the wheat so I'm very stuffed. We went to the church picnic-Brad cooked corn for all. It came from your state Joanne. But we only used half of what we bought. it was very relaxing. It's still a little strange-i'm a Catholic and they are all Baptists but basically we are the same-just different beliefs. Actually the Catholic Church is now recommending immersion for Baptism.But we baptize infants and they do adults. Enough about RELIGION-I'm more about spirituality. Satellite people coming today and the dish is working fine. But as soon as they leave you know what will happen..My son is on his way to MA. Gonna be 90 tomorrow!!!!Bye for now-gotta get dressed. This is another start over day for me.. I get so tired of this constant struggle with the weight.
Happy- Have a good time on your picnic.. I don't do that in the heat. I like to go to the beach and go in the water ,but, it is always so crowded this time of the year. It will be packed this week.
Ally- Get yourself a window unit. I had them in my bedrooms and in my livingroom for awhile. When the one in the livingroom gave out we stayed in the bedrooms untill we got tired of it and put in central. They don't cost all that much and your comfort is woth it.
I could not live without it. One of my sisters lives in Middletown ,NY. She says she doesn't use Air Conditioning either. I think that is because her companion doesn't want to because he is too cheap. He doesn't use it down here either. She always looks so hot and flustered.

My yard has several bird nests in the trees. One is just outside the kitchen window. We watched them build the nest and now the mother is in it. Brown Thrashers...Blew Jays in the palm next to it. There are several different kinds of birds feeding at the feeder hanging in the carport.

It's going to be 90 today. Yeah-tenant is moving out on Sat.-we need the space. Brad is going to set up his trains later on!!!It's freezing here-the central air is on and we have to make sure we are cool enough this pm. Hi don't know what happened there.

We had a great holiday weekend. Daughter flew out at 7 am this morning and has class in Vanc. at 10:30 am. Step daughter and family have now gone to visit with other relatives, so we can get back to our routine.

Mima - I find it interesting you should blame your unus prob. on whet. I have never noticed that. Will have to keep track. I have had sinus problems forever and have nasal and sinus polyps, for which I have had many surgeries.

Joanne - We were not seeing any birds at all last week, it was much too hot for them too. The temp. has dropped to the 80's now but wind is 40 mph gusting to 70 mph and the birds don't really like that either.

Mime - The Manhatten Hunt Club had good reviews but I still haven't read it. I will be going to get a bag of books today and will look for it.

Happy - Hope you had a good Canada Day. We had hoards of mosquitoes. BBQ and then run indoors to eat it.

Ally - I've been on the waiting list at the Public Library for months, before the movie talk etc, for YaYa Sisterhood. It has been a very busy book here. I would like to read it before I see the movie.

Yesterday was Canada Day. We went to the lake - had a picnic. Ashley played in the water for a while. I guess it was warm in the water, but it was a cold wind blowing off the lake. We moved across the street to the Provincial Park, and had a picnic. They also had a Farmer's Market at the lake, so browsed through there as well.

Serenity - NO Mosquitoes here!!! No moisture at all. I guess that is about the only good thing about no rain. Glad you enjoyed the day.

Mima - I don't know about you, but airconditioning always causes sinus problems for me. Can't stand to have it on in the car.

Ally, Meme, Joanne and Candice - Hello. I am off to get my hair cut right away, so am running out of time.

Happy- I do believe it is just as hot if not hotter in your area as it is here. We have been getting some rain and that cools it a little. Biting bugs we have a plenty. We are having the 4th of July and I imagine there will be a lot of people picnicing. We never do anything. We might ride out to the beach and watch the fireworks.
Serenity.. Cheesecake and esp. Chocalote cheese cake is hard to resist. Just plan and count the points. I have been watching myself really close this week. But if There was anything tempting around I would be in trouble too.
Mima...Your place sounds like my son-in-laws house. My daughter and I are usually wearing a heavy sweatshirt there. He keeps it like a freezer!My daughter is halfway through her masters program and she has made nothing less than an A. I am really prowd of her.

I had my first PT session. This is just a waste of my time and money. I do the same exercises most every day anyhow. I told them I will only come back one more time. I can do these things at home and save 30 dollers copay.I am going out again tomorrow and try to find a knee support. I think it will do more good.

My mom had another stroke yesterday at 6:15 p.m. This one was MUCH worse than the last one...twice the size! She is completely paralyzed on the left side this time...not just her arm. Her speech is slured and she can't swallow. Don't know when I'll get time to get back on here...I'm just home to take a shower and get a few hours sleep!

Everyone pray for Meme and her mom. This is a tough time not knowing what's going to happen. Serenity-I am allergic to wheat and milk and they cause congestion which causes my sinuses to swell up. And being away-I have eaten a lot of foods that are not good so now i'm trying to be good. I actually do better in humid weather. But it's not humid in here. This started last week at work. Son will be in MA today. Brad put in steps yesterday to the deck-no more step stool-hung the last plate shelf and installed my chandelier!!!We are getting there. We are having a huge cookout next week. Wish you could all be here!!!!!!!. I am on my last stitches for the needlework piece for\the wedding Sat. Can't wait to see all my relatives-especially my aunt. Mima

Joanne - Hello. I am ready to sit and have a coffee with you. You are so down to earth, I swear we would get along really well. I am basically the same. PT has never done one thing for me, so I refuse to go. I hope you find some relief for your knee. Joanne, when it was so hot, it was like living on a desert for heaven sakes. No humidity at all. Just plain HOT!!!! However, now it has cooled off and the past two nights they have been giving us frost warnings for the night!! Can you believe that? In JULY!!!! I have never seen that before either. The weather this year is a year of firsts or close. March and April were the coldest in the past 150 years, May was ok, but June was the 3rd hottest in the past 120 years, and June is also the month we get rain and we had none! El Nino is sitting out in the Pacific Ocean wreaking havoc with our weather, I believe.

Serenity - Cheesecake is good. While in Ontario, my daughter found some good ones called Waistwatchers. They are only one point, but we can't get them here. She only makes them for Ontario. What a shame. I am going to try playing with a couple of my cheese cake recipes and see what I can come up with.

Happy- I am ready to have a cup of coffe and a nice chat with you too. I really wish that was possible. If you come up with a good way to make cheesecake that is less pts. let us know. I think that you can use light cream cheese and maybe get away with egg whites.
I agree that they will probably want to put Meme's mom in a nursing home. If so she should visit them and pick the best.One that is close to her so she should not have to commute too far. I don't think it is a good idea for her to try to take her home. Meme has too much on her plate as it is.
Yes Happy,I am a down to earth person. I don't know any other way to be. I say things like I see them and always have. I always say if it is in my head it will come out of my mouth. Sometimes it gets me into trouble too.

I would think your Mother will be well cared for in a nursing home and it will likely be much easier for her too.I know my uncle is having a much better life now that he has gone into a home, it was just too hard to keep him at home even with help coming in several times a day.

Take it one day at a time, Meme!Don't worry, Serenity, that's typical of weight loss anyways and you didn't go up. I'll look for a cheesecake recipe. I ripped out my stitches 3 times last night-I am putting the names on my needlework and it;s free hand. But today I figured out I needed to measure better and now it;s fine, In the middle of frustration is leaning!!!That's what I always told my students. I like the humidity-it makes my sinuses open. Happy 4th of July. We are going to a parade this am. Hubby likes them and I do too. My son is going to Boston tonight but no way are we going.WE can drive somewhere where we can see the local ones. Thanks everyone for your prayers and email. Mom is not better...actually she is worse today but the Dr. said that is to be expected. They always get worse before they get better. We have a different Neurologist this time and I really like him. They had to put a feeding tube in last night...but just down her throat not in her side. We may have to do that later, though, because she can't swallow at all. She can't open her eyes now, either. She has a living will and she didn't want any tubes or machines but on the other hand...if there is a chance she'll recover...I can't let her starve to death, either. The feeding tube was a hard decision to make but I feel like I made the right one (the only one, really!) The new Dr. said last night that it could go two ways...1. she could slowly get better and be able to start eating again and go into a nursing home or 2. she could stroke out again any minute and die. He said you never knew which way a stroke like hers would go...they are unpredictable. Seems her strokes are caused by onset of alzheimer's. He said he could see some shrinkage in the brain cells on the undamaged side of her brain and that tells him that she had already started getting alzheimer's and that a lot of older people's brains broke down like hers has when that happens. The tiny blood vessels break or tear and they have a leakage. He said she could get better but the chances of her living more than a few years at her age were very rare. The Neurosurgeon came in to see her this morning (hubby is there) ... he pulled her eye lids back and looked in her eyes and said, "Not good." What ever that means!

The big "immediate" problem is she keeps pulling at her tubes and wires. It is all one person can do to keep her covered up and keep her from pulling out her feeding tube and catheter. I hired a "sitter" from a service to come and watch her last night so I could come home and get some sleep...felt good to sleep more than 3 or 4 hrs...almost like a luxury! Hubby is staying tonight and then I may hire someone again tomorrow night...

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GOOD FOURTH OF JULY. We had a big cookout planned for today...I can't believe my mother-in-law called me this morning and asked me if we were still having it! I forget...people around here think I'm SUPERWOMAN! (or...SUPERMEME!) :p

God bless you Meme. You know, what will be, will be. If she can't better and has Alzheimers to look forward to, then it would be a blessing if she could leave now. I don't think Alzheimers patients have pain, and they don't seem to be suffering. It is far harder on the family and friends to watch this. However, with other health problems, she wouldn't even be able to tell them what the trouble is.

I can't even imagine why someone would call and ask such a stupid question! I guess she thought you could put everything on hold and have the cook-out.

I am glad that you can get a sitter service to come in. That way at least you can get the sleep you need. Do you have brothers and sisters that are coming to help out?

Meme- Your mother is in God's Hands. If she has a living will try to do what your mother wanted as far as her care. Happy is right. She is unable to tell you or anyone if she is in pain etc. I had to talk and advise so many families that were in the same place you are in ,concerning their family. I will tell you the same thing."The kind thing you can do for her is let her go. I know this is hard for you. It is the right thing to do.There must be some quality of life to keep her here."If the doctors tell you there is no hope ,go to a chapel in the hospital and talk with God.He knows best.
We are all thinking of you and your family. I hope your family members are there for you too. Don't give the stupid unthinking people a thought.
