Fibromyalgia #60

Hi everyone. Hope your day is going well. It is kind of cloudy and rainy here today and only about 60 above. Supposed to warm up by tomorrow, although still showers around. This is a really good thing, as we really need rain.

Candice - Dreaming about my hubby were you:dizzy: I hope it was a really good dream and that he was nice. He really is a great guy and I have never wanted to trade him in:lol: That picture you posted is absolutely beautiful.

Ally - hope your blister is better. That isn't really a good thing to have when you are trying to walk.

Mima - Glad you will get back to the business of being retired soon. Who needs all this extra work. Enjoy your walk and your golf game.

Hi, Meme - where are you?????? I hope you are feeling better.

Joanne, if you lived here, you knee would really be giving you grief today. Damp and cold.

Hi Serenity. Has the weather improved in Manitoba? How are you doing with ww. Is tomorrow ww day for you? Hopefully I will be down another pound or two. It sure doesn't want to come off very darn fast.

Joanne D 06-18-2002 06:43 PM

Hey There

Happy- 60 degrees! We won't see that till next fall. We finally got some really needed rain. I see the Dr. again next week. I called and asked for a referal and he said he wanted me to come into the office. I think he must think I am one of his little ole retired women that doesn't know what they are doing. He has a surprise coming. I was in nursing too many years for him to fool with. I also have been through this once. I know he is a doctor who doesn't like to be told what you want him to do. Well neither do I.
My sister says I am stubborn. I just don't see where my answer is injections ,pain pills , cane and a chair. He won't be the first Dr. that yelled and I yelled back.
Mima- Are you really retired or just for the summer? I concider myself retired. I work more in the house and for family than I ever did. I never seem to stop. Till bedtime. I always have a list of things to do for the next day.
Serenty- Keep up the walking. I used to go to a walking thread in exercise. But everyone faded away and it was hard keeping up a conversation with myself.
Ally- You must be wearing the wrong shoes to walk if you got blisters. Hope they are better
Hello Candice..What a nice picture..
Meme- How are you? I hope you are taking care of yourself..
Bye.... Joanne

Serenity62 06-18-2002 08:47 PM

Hi everyone

Joanne - it was 90 here yest. and in the 70's today but started raining again. Wish I could send you some of this heat.

Mima - There always seems to be more to do at home after you are retired. The list makeing is never ending.

Ally Hope you have good shoes. I know I have fibro feet.
Just had to pay $100.00 on sale for sandals (plus tax) I have
to have metetarcel pads in all my shoes. I don't even own a pair of summer dress shoes right now. Always in Nikes or sandals.

Candice - finally - i had 2 colours of Iris bloom white with purple, and deep mauve and also lily of the valley. I see the lilies are getting ready to bloom - don't know what I'll have as everything was moved in the spring, and didn't expect most to bloom.

Mime l- Hope you are taking time for #1

Happy - my walking is not going too good - had to quit after about 15 mins today with foot pain. WW is going good - at least I am doing ok point wise 1st weigh in is tomorrow morning.

We are getting more rain - it poured all night and this morning.
The Red River Floodway looked pretty full when we passed over it on Sat. but apparently that was just from all the rain and they just opened the floodway gates today. It is not good out here,
the farmers didn't have much crops because of the drought, and
now it s all underwater in some places.

There are also these people who don't listen to the warnings to keep away from the river so a few drownings etc.

The 3 rivers in the city are all flooding the land but so far in the city no homes flooded.

must get going - lots todo here

Serenity

Mima 06-19-2002 07:35 AM

Hi

Serenity-that flooding sounds awful!!!!Waiting for them to install the satellite dish this am. 4 days from when we bought it after waiting 2 months and no show for the others!!!!Joanne-I have been retired from teachng for more than 3 years but every couple of months I correct the MA teacher test for about 2 weeks at a time.Since I've retired, I sold my home of 28 years, moved into a condo, got married and moved again. This house is really coming along-Big projects left but they can wait. It's going to be nice today!!!I am pacing myself. I made the best chicken pie last night-sour cream, cheddar, chicken, potatoes , carrots, cream of chicken soup-definitely not low fat but it's a favorite of Brad's. Hey-I bet you could use phyllo dough cuz you can use fat free sour cream and cheddar.Got the recipe from the minister's wife. Go for it Joanne!!!!Get that knee fixed, Hi everyone!!!Mima

Joanne D 06-19-2002 09:53 AM

Hey There

I just lost my whole post ..This thing is acting up. It is raining again.. I love every drop. Some people are not so happy with it. Up the road a bit the ground is caving in . Big holes and the rain isn't helping them.Their homes are in danger and people have had to move out. The area is unstable. They have put their places up for sale but ofcourse they can't sell. That's just part of Florida. You have the floods etc..
Mimi -I am working on it. I see the Dr.Tuesday. He will probably try to talk me out of it. I wonder who he is concidering me or the insurance company. I'll offer him my knee
Serenity- Hope you did well with your weigh in.. If you can push your walking to 20 min. at a time it would be better. It takes 20 min to change your metabolism. It helps with the wt. loss
Meme- Where are you? How are you doing?
Hello Happy, Candice, Ally. Bye...Joanne

Serenity62 06-19-2002 01:18 PM

HI everyone

Well good news lost 4.2 lbs.

Other than that - not feeling well at all. The IBS is back again,
ate something fried yest. = that must have done it. A jelly bismark from the Donut shop.

Also muscles are yelling at me from head to toe. Just taking it easy today and resting - lying down, reading etc.

Hope you all have a good day

Serenity

Ally0306 06-19-2002 06:01 PM

Good work, Serenity. I get weighed at the Doc office on Fri. Haven't been on the scale in months. But I think I have lost, at least my clothes tell me I have. I am still walking, blisters and all. What happened was that my comfy sneaks got wet, my other walking shoes were at work, so I pulled out some old ones. They and my socks got wet, and voila!!! Big ugly blister.
I got out of work early to get a new lawnmower...made my son go with me. Oh, my kids are getting too old. They used to enjoy being brought in to help me do something. Today my son couldn't wait to get me out of his hair. His friends were waiting for him when we pulled in the drive...didn't think he was even going to get the box out of my trunk. Finally I let him leave with these boys.....I'll have to get the darned thing out of the box myself. Men!!!! Hot weather on its way here in NY. Took a really long walk with the dos again just in case it is too hot tomorrow. I don't have a lot of fibro aches when I have my period....I KNOW this is also hormonal.
:dizzy:

Joanne D 06-19-2002 07:16 PM

Hey There

Serenity- Very Good weight loss. :jig: I don't want to burst your bubble of happiness ,BUT. I bet that jelly bismark was about 500 cal. which is about 10 pts. Good thing you ate it last night. A bismark must be the same as a jelly donut. Dunkin Doughnuts is my most favorite place. One donut 500 cal, I don't dare even stop the car near it let alone go there. No control.
Well Girls ,I am off to see my daughter tomorrow. I haven't seen her since March. We have a lot of fun together. I'll check in with you all on monday. She is good for me. She gets me back on track.I have been a little lax lately. Too much to think about.I guess.
Bye..Joanne:wave:

Happy Canuk 06-19-2002 11:18 PM

Hi

Serenity - good weight loss. Keep it up.

Joanne - have a good visit with your daughter. They are special aren't they. My daughter and I get along really well. Great friends.

Ally - I hope your blister heals soon. They can be painful. I hope you didn't have to "build" that lawnmower!

I went to ww today and I was down 1.9 pounds. So, I was happy with that. I know I am losing because my clothes are definitley getting larger. It is just so slow going, but I guess the slower the better, because I learn along the way.

Hi Candice and Meme.

Candicej 06-20-2002 05:47 AM

Yappy happy...thanks for the new thread and the man to dream about!;) It looked like Hans had a pretty fit body for an old married man! Oh and you too!:D Still do not know why you are trying to lose. You sound like you have the perfect life, except for the Fibro and stuff!

Ally...old shoes will do that to but, how are you walking with blisters, don't make them worse, I had a friend who got blood poisening from a bad blister. Men is right!

Serenity..so gald you take days to just rest, I do that too but I do not think Meme does!:) Donuts I have to stay away from too! Too many points, I think you can get a regular galzed for only 5 pts. I have only had two since I started the program 2 years ago. Good job on the 4.2 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:smug:

Mima.. Tia Chi!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jsut do it!:) you are just one busy bee! Boy you can't eat like that too often..sounds really good, but there must be a lower cal version. how about that lowfat bisquick??????

Joanne......hope you had fun with your daughter..does everyone on here have daughters except me and Ally???????

I think I am going to moms next week, if my brother oks it, we have to stay with him. I hate going away!!!!!!!!!!! Made it two
days without cookies but had my little candy bar..2pts. My nexium makes me hungry...had popcorn tonight, but that is a good treat. Also had pork chops in the crock pot with ranch dressing mix and Mushroom soup, yummmm 4 pts.

Here is some wild Sweet William..................

Mima 06-20-2002 07:49 AM

Hi

FYI-wheat, dairy, and aspertame gets me in pain which I'm in now, I need to be more disciplined. Great weight losses guys!!!!Have fun Joanne-I have a daughter and we have fun !!!But my boys are great and I have a great time with them and they are easier but then they don't share as much-well my older son does. We got our satellite dish and every 10 minutes the picture freezes and I have made several phone calls to no avail.Back on the phone today.Got my windows painted-going golfing tomorrow. Pork chops in the crock pot sounds good. We had salmon and brown rice last night. Brad doesn't like salmon but he goes along with it once in a while. But he loves that pie.I made a pie with biswick and it was good too so that's what I'll do.Bye for now_Mima

Rev 06-20-2002 06:19 PM

I am a 47 year old female with fibromyalgia. My husband is waiting for a liver transplant and my job is his insurance so......I have to work. It is getting harder to get up and go every morning. I work at WalMart as a head Customer Service Manager, you know the ones with red vest catching the lights at the registers. Both of us are overweight. We can't afford weight watchers or any of those kinds of programs due to income and medical expenses, Anyone with any suggestions? I need all the support I can get. If you let me join your thread I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Revella

Ally0306 06-20-2002 07:23 PM

Hi Revella......and welcome. And yes indeed you can join. I am 46 and the baby here...I would get jealous if you were younger. like being the youngun somewhere in the world.
Weight loss does NOT cost money. And I should know cause I have sunk tons of money into various schemes and plans thru out the years only to just lose the money and gain the weight back. It really really is teaching yourself a new Way Of Eating. And then you HAVE to get some exercise in there. With your husband, I am not sure what route you go for exercise but even with fibro....you have got to keep moving, walking, stretching. I have my newest "thing" which is to steer clear of things in packages, or boxes or cans etc. I am trying for fresh. If I do that I completely rule out cookies, junk food, processed food etc. I do a lot of veggies and chicken. I only eat pasta and bread and potatoes once in a while cause I think carbs are my downfall. I will know what I weigh tomorrow as I go to the Doc. I hope I am not disappointed. That is why I stayed off the scale. Those numbers can get you down. I would rather go with the way I feel.

Oh you guys..I had a Cujo experience on a hike tonight. I have to go look up Wolf and see a picture...cause I swear that is what popped out of the woods and jumped my old arthritic spaniel. I screamed at it and started swinging the leash and it went back into the woods, bu followed us, jumping out every now and then and baring it's teeth. Scared the cr-ap out of me. I actually RAN for about a half a mile (I didn't even feel my feet touching the ground) My dogs were scared to death too. Normally they would bark at another dog. They put their tails between their legs and took off running.

Serenity62 06-20-2002 11:15 PM

Hi Girls

Ally - take good care of the blisters. My friends hubby is a walker & is in bad shape right now because he insisted on walking with blisters.

Many years ago I lived in northern Ontario, in a game preserve, with bears and wolves etc all around. The wolves usually don't like to be around humans and will take off out of sight when humans enter the bush. My pet was half pure bred Siberian Husky and half wolf. Did you know that wolves stay with the same mate for their lifetime? They live in family groups and don't mate until they find themselves a home "den". The "unmarried" F & M adults, baby sit for the family etc.

Joanne - I know the bismark is a killer. lol I seem to be getting by on less than my top amount of points each day. Hope I can keep it up, a few points each day will add up.

Candice - please keep up the pictures of your flowers, I really enjoy them.

Mima - I am allergic to aspertame, but before I knew that it sure
caused me a lot of pain as well as allergy reaction.

Rev. WELCOME - you will find lots of weight watchers recipes etc. on line. Keep coming in to visit.

Hi Happy

My daughter is coming from Vancouver B.C., to visit for 7 days.
I haven't seen her since March of 2001 when I went to visit her.
It was my first plane trip. She doesn't get home often as she
works and goes to UBC and needs all her money for tuition etc.
We are really looking forward to having some time with her.

Feeling much better today and getting about and also eating better.

Happy Canuk 06-21-2002 12:19 AM

Hello everyone

Rev, glad you found your way over here. Nice to have you. I live in Western Canada, in the Province of Alberta. You have a lot on your plate right now. That must be terrible to know that no matter how you feel you have to go to work in order to have insurance. I really feel for you and your hubby. I think we ALL know how to eat and what we must do. Ally is right about the exercise, but that is a hard thing for me to do. I have arthritis in my lower back, and find that because of this, my legs ache so bad and get so stiff at times, it just hurts to move them at all. I am sure some of it is good old FM as well.

Serenity - glad to here that you are feeling better. A visit with your daughter after that length of time will be great. I don't know where the time goes, but it sure whizzes by! Heavens, tomorrow is already the longest day of the year and then we head back again. Going to be hot here tomorrow - supposed to be 28 but it will probably go higher. We will all be heading to the lake. For our American friends, that is up in the mid 80's. Perhaps I can melt some of this fat off:lol:

Mima, Meme, Joanne and Candice Hi. Have yourselves a good day.

Meme - I hope you are sleeping or taking time for you and not still sick. Just a little hi would be nice, so we know you are ok.

MemeToo 06-21-2002 12:27 AM

WOW...it took me 20 minutes just to catch up!!! You guys have been busy "talking"!

The nurse came today and released Mom and the physical therapist told her she could go home anytime she wanted to...problem is...I don't think she wants to! I'm going to get her groceries in tomorrow and take her home Saturday. I've got to have some alone time and some rest! I started back teaching this week and that plus taking care of her needs, etc. is just too much. I'll still have to go over and clean her house and help her a lot but I'd rather do that than have her here all the time. I haven't even got to go outside and enjoy my porches at all this year and I love being outside. My poor dog probably thinks she has done something wrong because I've barely had time to pet her in the last 6 weeks, let alone go out and play with her. She need exercising bad, too! I've gotten really behind on a lot of stuff!!!

Welcome Rev...sorry you have fibro but glad to have another 'suffer's' input! How long have you had fibro? Where are you from? Tell us about yourself! I'm 55...was diagnosed with fibro about 25 years ago (seems like longer!) I also have rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. I teach piano and design web pages, live in middle Tennessee, married, 2 children, 4 grandchildren and a golden named Sami. I need to lose about 30 pounds but can't seem to get motivated since my mom had a stroke May 15th. I was doing WW online but I'm not really doing anything right now...except eating too much!

Well...I gotta go take a shower and get in the bed. Mom gets up about 7 every single morning so I can't sleep in anymore. I'm not getting up so early when she goes home. I'm getting her some Eggo waffles and stuff so she can fix her own breakfast...heck...I may sleep 'till noon!!!

Candicej 06-21-2002 02:10 AM

;) Happy, Meme and I look young for our age!!!!;)

Here is a picture or my family with the couple we met a few weeks ago. I'm just getting so skinny!:smug:  :smug: I look older now that I'm thinner!:(

Mima 06-21-2002 03:24 PM

Hi

Candice-you do not look OLDER!!!You look great. Hi Rev-you sure have a lot on your plate. My philosophy on weight loss. low fat, smaller portions and exercise. I was doing the low fat and exerise but when I joined WW I found out i was eating too much!!!Hi Meme!!Good to hear from you . In went golfing today. I really was surprised at how well I did-compared to me that is. It was fun. Bought some more plants and mulch. I'll have to take a picture of the front and let you realize that there was nothing there before I came except for rhododendrons and roses. I just love flowers. Going to work for 3 days next week-never a dull moment. Hi Anne, Ally, Ser.,Joanne. Oh yeah ,it's hot and the satellite is fixed. Mima

Ally0306 06-22-2002 10:53 AM

Well, I did read about Wolves and know by the pic is was not a wolf .... just a wild dog. The trail has web site and I reported it and they have the Animal Control officer out looking.
I am trying another scetion of the trail today.
Happy.....that is the Catch-22 for fibro people. you know you need exercise but it hurts. I have to force myself to go out and walk cause sometimes I am so stiff I feel like I am a hundred. But after about ten minutes, I feel better. Then when I am done, and I sit down.....wow, I can't get up.
I weighed 5 pounds more than I thought I did. Boo hoo. That wouldn't have anything to do with the chocolate orgy we had a t work last Friday would it :o
So today, it is walking walking and salad and chicken.
I got Imitrex at the Doc. Tried it yesterday and came home and fell asleep.......

Happy Canuk 06-22-2002 11:30 AM

Good morning

Well Meme has resurfaced. Thanks for the update. Maybe when you get your mom back to her house, you will be able to have a few minutes peace and quiet. Sometimes it is even hard to appreciate the simple things, like sitting on the porch, when you are bogged down. I don't know how you do all you do! I am a steady worker, but if I push myself to much, I am in BIG trouble.

Candice - you don't look old at all! I guess we probably all look older than 20, but eh, some of the wrinkles and lines are earned:lol: I am grateful, that I don't have a real wrinkley skin.

Ally - I hope they catch that animal! How scarey for you. I am scared to death of dogs I don't know. I will walk way out of my way to avoid them. I also hate it when dogs are in the back of trucks - I almost parked next to one the other day, but noticed him before I got out. A few years ago, hubby and I had parked our car, and a halfton parked next to us. I didn't see a dog, he must have been sleeping. Anyway, I went to get into the car, and that darn dog started carrying on - guess he was protecting his space, but I thought he was going to take a huge bite out of me. I just freaked out and sat in the car and cried and cried. scared the he** out of me.

Hi Serenity. I also have a big problem with Aspartame. All the sweets that ww recommend has it in the product. MSG is another delightful thing I have a problem with. It hides under so many different names, but I can always tell, as my stomach starts acting up and I get a major headache. That happens with both of these products.

Hi Rev. - Hope you are having a day off today.

Hi Joanne - I hope you are enjoying your visit with your daughter.

The first day of summer, was perfect. Couldn't have asked to a more perfect day. It was about 78 above with a gentle breeze. Today it is going into the late 80's or maybe even hit the 90's. I shall die! There is no humidity with it, thank goodness,.

I hope you all have a wonderful day;)

MemeToo 06-22-2002 02:20 PM

Well...I've had a "wonderful" day so far! :p I got up to my mom trying to pack up her stuff. She said, now...I have it all planned out...we will take this and walk up there and then we'll come back and get that and we'll leave this other stuff until tomorrow afternoon and take it...etc. I said...say what??? I don't think so. She can't carry stuff and walk at the same time. She said she had the stuff in the bathroom yet didn't have any of her medicine. She didn't want to take her stuff on hangers because she said she didn't know what she was going to do with it. Well...sorry, Mom, but I had to move hubby back in his room so I needed it out of here!!! I gently but firmly guided her into my livingroom and sat her down in the recliner. I said, look...I'm not able to carry all this stuff down the steps and up to your trailer piece by piece. You just sit here and relax and I'll take care of it. She had a really heavy "potty" that goes over the camode and a TV as well as all her clothes, pillows and bathroom stuff. I put it all on the elevator and lowered it to the basement, loaded it in my van and backed up her driveway and unloaded it all at one time. I also put most of it away! Then I said adios amigo...I'm outta here! It is sooooo good to have my house back. I didn't even mind having to do all that first thing in the morning. It is really hard for me to do much when I first get up but just knowing she was going home got me movin'!!!

Well...speaking of getting moving...I gotta...I'm having a cookout for my daughter's BD tomorrow...14 people...and I gotta go make potato salad and stuff. My baby will be 32 tomorrow...boy...talk about getting old! They just bought their first house yesterday. I'm supposed to go with them to see it in 2 hours! Gotta get the move on! Hope you all have as good a weekend as I'm having!!! :s:

Ally0306 06-22-2002 07:23 PM

Meme..I do NOT know how you do it. I could not move someone's stuff into a van and then into their house. It is all I can do to mow the lawn. And then to have a big dinner the next day? Wow. It is too hot here in NY for anything. Well, more humid than hot. I am whooped. Want to take a shower but then I will need another before bed.
Happy....I just love dogs. In fact the other day I donated dog food to our local shelter. BUT...I hate it when dogs jump at you. There is a house on the corner of my street that is fenced and the dog will come whipping across the lawn at snap at you thru the fence. Scares the poop outta me. So I yelled at it, hoping the owners would come out. She just came to the door and yelled "toby, stop it". So my co-workers and I went to lunch one day and wasn't SHE my waitress. I bet she spit in my salad.:dizzy:

MemeToo 06-22-2002 08:22 PM

Spit...hmm...or dog poop!!!

Ally...it really wasn't all that much. A 13" TV I had to unhook from cable and then hook back up, the potty was the biggest thing I had to move...she had 1 suitcase, an overnight bag, some clothes on hangers, her pillows and a few smaller things. I was just too glad to do it!!! It is hot and humid here, too. I'm so tired...going on Darvocet and Aleve today...take one and then 3 hrs. later the other...

The house my daughter bought is absolutely beautiful! It has 3 bedrooms, a study, livingroom, kitchen, dinning room, two full baths, big utility and a huge 2 1/2 car garage with a paved driveway. The back yard is also huge. The dinning room kind of sticks out of the back of the house and there is a deck going off it. I just love the colors, too. It is mostly in hunter green and cranberry and that is what my daughter's furniture is. The master bath is in purple and she has new bathroom stuff in purple. It couldn't have matched up better! And the best thing of all is that she will be living almost directly across the street from her best friend since 4th grade!!! And they both have boys only 6 months apart and both married men named Mark.

I finally got all hubby's stuff moved back out of my room and bathroom into his! Whew...what a day! Gotta run...gotta do one more load of wash, do some ironing then take a shower and do my nails before I collapse into bed!!! I think I'm going to need more than Darvocet tonight...probably take a couple of Tylenol PMs!!!

Candicej 06-23-2002 05:00 AM

My gosh Meme.............your gonna die kickin' aren't ya!;) So was hubby ready to move back to his room!

Anne...I love dogs but I too hate it when they rush at you barking. It is in the 90's here and we have the humidity too! The heat index is over 100 now. Without the humidity I like it hot now that I am thinner I get so cold:smug:

Ally....That wild dog scare would have kept me from walking there for awhile. Choc. orgy..wow;) I did really well on sweets this week since I am banking for my trip. Eating lots of fruit instead, gee I should do that all the time! Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mima...I did the same thing with the eaitng low fat and healthy but couldn't lose and my portion size was the problem! WW has really put everything in perspective for me! Can't wait to see your yard..I love flowers too! (but you already new that!)

Busy trying on stuff to get packed, everything fits a little different from year to year now! Still trying to get stuff watered, Dh will not fool with it when I am gone!

I think I have a bladder infection, just pelvic pain and peeing all the time, so I am on cipro right now and I'm not a happy camper! you cannot have calcium or magnesium 6 hrs. before or two hours after or maybe it is the other way around..I better go check anyway I take it at 4 and 4 so my eating has to be around that!

Serenity62 06-23-2002 08:13 AM

HI Girls

I am having not a bad weekend. I woke to thunder yest. morning. On Fri nite we had laid out all the boards for the deck so I could get up early Sat and waterproof. lol Well it was soaked before I could even get down the stairs.

It did get sunny later on and we swept the water off and moved the boards back into the garage. The new forecast says rain until Weds. I had wanted to get the deck down before my daughter arrives Tues. nite. We are dragging mud everywhere - still no eavestroughs

I wonder what all these meds you gals take are doing for you.

I cannot take them and I don't seem to be much worse off, just
taking Tylenol x strength and sometimes tylenol #1.

The only med. I have for my fibro is amitriptyline, which I take at bedtime. Almost everyone I have met with fibro, is taking that, and usually a variety of other things.

I am busy painting a little bird house and a butterfly house for the garden. We have a butterfly sanctuary which has just recently opened near here and we seem to be getting more of them the past few years.

Candice - I saw the most beautiful Iris while garage sale-ing yesterday. It was very large and a gorgeous color of peach.
The woman didn't know what it was called as she had just dug one out of her grandmothers garden and few years ago. She said that altho it is peach, some years it is pale and other years it is dark peach.

Hope you are all having a great weekend

Serenity

Ally0306 06-23-2002 05:18 PM

Serenity.....too hot for me in NY. Well, humid is more like it. Makes me feel achy and I get migraines.
Speaking of meds, I got Imitrex on Friday. They don't do anything for me. I will have to get Midrin (which makes me sleepy and dopey) back.
I think the key is in Serotonin for me. But can't go back on anti-depressants to get it .....they make me gain weight. I went off 5-HTP for a break cause it loses its effect after a while.
What you take at night is an anti-d, Serenity, cause they feel the best way to beat fibro is sleep. I am sleeping OK cause I walk a lot. But boy do I ache in this heat.
Meme......yeah, I see what you mean. I would get some energy from somewhere if it meant getting your mother back home. I have never taken Darvocet. Does it make you sleepy?

Hey There

Hey Guys- I came back a day early and just got everything put away and supper over. I just had to see how everyone was doing.
Welcome Rev..Ally gave you some good advice. You don't have to go to any weight Clubs to lose weight. I have tried them all. I do confess that I did go to weight watchers. If you can commit yourself to losing and helping your hubby in the process ,you can do it . Dump all the junk food in the trash to start with and stick to healthy eating. Cook without fats. and plenty of veggies. Lean meat, chicken and fish. Portion your foods. 4-6 oz. meats . limit breads(use 40 cal ) and carbs. forget the sweets for a while and drink plenty of water .(at least 8 glasses a day) 2-3 fruits a day...There are loads of magazines(Prevention) with good ideas of healthy eating. You need to change your way of eating and get some exercise. Walk 30+ min.everyday. ..Extra from work..
We are all hear to help you..
I had a nice visit with my daughter. She is a busy girl.
Meme- Did I miss something? I have to look back..Is your mother still with you?
Candice.. Hope you feel better soon..Drink some cranberry juice..
Serenity ..Save the pastry for a treat after you weigh in and lose.
Happy We came in about 5.30.. I had seven messages on my ph. 5 were from my kids..We did not get home in the aloted time they thought we should from my daughters..We stopped and shopped and ran into rain etc.. They paniced..My son was calling the Highway patrol.. He had a fit.. when I called him ..I told him well I guess you got a taste of what I went through when You were late coming in.. He said" but you are the parent..." I said"Looks like the rolls have reversed."

Hello

Hi everyone, well it certainly is summer in Alberta. These temps. are way above for the end of June. Going to be in the 90's this week. I think I shall just die!!!! Today, there is a gale blowing, so it isn't that hot - only going to 26 (about 80). I don't have airconditioning, but I do have a humungous fan that moves the air around. The house isn't that hot, as it faces north. My deck is also north, so I can get out there and enjoy the day. I don't do very well in the sun, and I burn easily, so try to stay out of it.

Candice - I hope you enjoy your trip to visit your Mom and brother. Frozen grapes are sooooo good.

Joanne - Glad you are back and am happy you and your daughter we able to spend time together. That is so special.

Meme - I do hope that things are back to 'normal' for you. So now you have your bedroom back to yourself! Hope your mom is doing ok on her own.

Ally - I don't get migraines but I can get a wingdinger of a sinus headache. My girlfriend get 3-4 migraines a week - hers are triggered by the darn weather, so this year has NOT been a very good year for her.

Serenity - Hi. Wish we could get some of that rain. Just isn't to be, I guess. It is so dry and the wind just keeps blowing. I don't know what is going to happen if it doesn't rain soon. No crops for the farmers, I guess.

Mima - Hello! Hope you are out having a good time. You are usually on here bright and early.

The G8 Summit is being held in Kananaskis and I sure hope nothing happens. It bothers me when the world leaders are all congregated in one place - you just never know. Kananaskis is just 3 hours from where I live. Lets pray all goes well.

"want more" salad

I was browsing through the recipes when I came upon this - I made it and it is really worth making - really good! Could use as dessert

"Want More" Salad

1 med. Apple, diced(1 point)
1 stalk celery, diced
2 Tablespoons raisins (1 Point)
1 Tablespoon sunflower seeds (1point)
1/2 cup pineapple tidbits, drain and save juice (1 point)
Dressing:
2 Tablespoons fat free mayo (1/2 point)
2 Tablespoons fat free vanilla yogurt
1 Tablespoon pineapple juice
Mix and chill. O. K. Someone is going to ask me how much to count the yogurt. Just eat the rest of the container as a snack and count what ever it is. Anyway, it comes to 2 servings at 2 1/4 points each. (I usually eat the whole thing for lunch along with some crackers. Enjoy!

Hi

Must have gone on too early yesterday cuz the site was shut down . Hubby is staying home today to put more air conditioning in our house-the one he has is too small. One of the benefits of his profession-whole house air. I finished my garden work-need one more bag of mulch and lattice for the roses, Actually I had a fight with the thorns and they won. Pictures soon. Meme-my mother was with me for a week and i went nuts. School vacation-2 little kids-single.How did I do it? Going to Northampton to wok for 3 days so you guys stay out of trouble.Anne-it's finally gorgeous here. Joanne, I know how hard it rains in FL. Lat year it was pouring when I got down there and my son had to go barefoot to bring all my luggage in the house. See ya Sat. Mima

Mima...have a good trip (You, too, Candice! I'm with you on the comfortable clothes!!! I hurt too many places to be uncomfortable or in pain because my clothes or shoes are too tight!)

Serenity...I don't know what the meds are doing to me but I do know what they are doing for me. Before I started taking the gold shots I couldn't raise either of my arms above my head and now I can. And when I stopped taking the methotrexate last January, I got so bad I had to just go to bed...then the Dr. put me back on them and I got better...so without the meds, I wouldn't be functioning. It isn't a matter of just feeling better for me...it is a matter of being able to have a life! I thank God for them every day!

Anne, thanks for the recipe...it sounds really good. I printed out so I could get the stuff to make it this weekend.

Joanne, I don't know what you missed but I moved Mom back home on Saturday but I'm still going over there and helping her with some things. I'm sooooo glad to have my house back! You guys have no idea how hard the last 6 weeks have been on me. If it hadn't been for the meds, the Darvocet and the Aleve I wouldn't have made it! I took yesterday off completely...didn't do hardly anything until dinner. I'm still cooking dinner for Mom though. She had gotten down so skinny. When I help her with her bath I just nearly cry...nothing but bones sticking out! She has already gained 5.5 pounds since she came home from the Rehab Center. I'm just afraid she will lose it now that she has gone home...so I'm making her come over here and eat dinner. And every time I go to town, I bring her back some fries and a milk shake! She tells everybody that I'm "fattening her up"! It would be interesting to have that problem, wouldn't it!? :p

Ally...Darvocet doesn't make me sleepy but that's probably because I'm so used to it. I try to not take any for a week or so at a time...like when the weather is nice and I'm not having a "bad" spell. Then, when I have to take some, after not taking it for a while, it kind of makes me feel funny...not quite "drunk" but a similar feeling. Like a little "buzz" in my head and down in my nose. It helps the arthritis and fibro but does nothing for migraines. I have found that Aleve helps my migraines some. Have you tried it? If you do, eat a little something first as I may upset your stomach. Then take two but don't lay down right away. It helps my migraines, arthritis and fibro all! But I have to make sure I'm not going anywhere if I take two because every now and then it upsets my stomach.

I'm back to work now so today is a teaching day...Tuesdays and Thrusdays. I'm on lunch break now so gotta go get ready to start the afternoon "session"! I have a retired "gentleman" coming at two...he's a hoot!

Hey There

Well you guys ,I spent the afternoon in the Dr. office. One hour in the exam room waiting for him to get to me:mad: . We finally decided to go in steps with my knee. I am going to get a knee support and take therapy for 3 weeks and then see him again. I am trying to prolong surgery. We will see how it goes.
Meme- I do undestand how it is with mothers in the house. I also had the Mother-in-law from **** in my house for awhile. I finally told my husband to take her home.He had to sleep with her at night. One night he called me up and said he didn't know how long he could stand her. I told him to come home and let her yell. We put her in a nursing home soon after. She lasted almost 10 more years. She was much stronger willed than anyone knew.At the time my sister-in-law was in the last stages of breast cancer and my husband has a heart condition. His sister died and 3 months after his brother died of brain cancer befor she died.
Ally have you tried taking a allergy medication with your pain pill for migrains? My daughter does that and gets some relief. Ask your Dr.first though.
Hello Happy.
Mima..I live right on the west coast. It will rain with in a mile of me and we don't get it. It was pouring in this area for the past several days and we haven't gotten any.It is something to do with the Gulf breezes. We are a mile from the Gulf.
Hello Serenty...How are you doig?
Bye Joanne

Ally0306 06-25-2002 08:29 PM

Oh this is a badweather year for migraines and fibro. It is back up to 90 today and while I was at work in air conditioning Iwas OK but outside and in my house...it is an oven.
I used to take a few aspirin when I got up in the night to go to the bathroom, but learned that if I was also taking anything else, that aspirin would give me terrible heartburn. But if I don't have a migraine, then I have terrible muscle aches.
Candice....I hate tight things too, but realized I was buying my undies too big. I need the support:lol:
Joanne......I think it is funny your kids were worried about you....I have kids who are just too independent. My mother used to smoke a pack of cigs everytime my brother left the house in his car. Ironically, I was the only one in a bad accident. And I was the good kid:^:

Hi Girls

well - it didn't rain all day today just a little bit. I have new eaves troughs and also bathroom shower & tub all done on the same day (yest) We can all have a shower tomorrow.

I find it interesting - all the different meds that are given for the same illness. I guess somethings work for some people and not for others.

I cannot take any kind of analgesic med. as I would have resp. arrest - anaphalctic shock etc etc. I can only take tylenol and tylenol #1. The specialist said that the amatrypaline is to relax the muscles. Of course I have 5 other meds I have to take for my allergies and asthma - just to stay alive and breathing.

I will give up on the idea of trying to find anything else for my fibro as most of the drugs being given are not what I can take.

My step daughter and her family arrived today, with their dog in tow. My daughter arrives at 11:30 pm tonight. STill in a mess here but they will just have to take us the way we are.

My aunt passed away last week and the funeral was today so all in all we have had a busy time.

It sounds like you are all doing well and keeping busy. Tomorrow morning is my 2nd weigh in. I am under in my points for the week. I feel like I am thinner but can't see it when I look in the mirror. I am not wieghing myself at home.

Wish me luck for tomorrow.

Serenity

Chronic stress can cause cravings for cookies, candy, chips and other high-fat, high-carbohydrate foods. The stress-driven appetite for these foods leads to dangerous weight gain, primarily around the waist. 60 percent of American adults are overweight or obese, many due to stress-related food cravings. Over 20 percent of American adults are obese with a stress-related condition known as "metabolic syndrome." This condition is characterized by a beer belly, high blood pressure, poor cholesterol readings and high blood sugar.

According to Dr. Pamela Peeke, a former scientist at the National Institutes of Health and associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, people with an apple-shaped figure are at greater risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some types of cancer. "It's not just what you weigh; it's where you weigh it," says Dr. Peeke, author of Fight Fat After Forty (Viking).

Until recently there were few known predictors of stress-induced eating. While most adults who have sugar/fat cravings under stress are aware of their out-of-control appetite, scientists have had difficulty in demonstrating actual cause and effect. Dr. Elissa Epel and colleagues at University of California, San Francisco have now clearly shown that individuals who are high reactors to the stress hormone called cortisol, consume more calories and more sweet foods under stress. Their recent study also demonstrated that greater food consumption occurred in high cortisol reactors when they were in a negative mood.

Relora™, a natural dietary supplement developed by Next Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Irvine California, was developed to improve mood, help stressed individuals relax, and to normalize the hormones related to stress-induced eating. 80 percent of stressed adults studied feel more relaxed with Relora. Relora has also been shown in a pilot study to normalize cortisol levels in stressed individuals. Preliminary findings suggest that Relora can decrease the cravings for high fat, high sugar foods in stressed individuals, most likely due to its ability to normalize stress hormone levels that cause these cravings.

O Meme... I have no doubt that stress causes high cortisol levels...they are high in many fibro people too. Where I work there is always food hanging around. Within a year, all new workers gain weight. It is a stressful job and we react to it by eating junk. BUT, I am scared of trying a new supplement. I am afraid that these things aren't all tested out. The theory makes sense...but I would want to see this as something that the FDA approves and agrees will help.
It is sooooo hard to walk away from all that food at work. Today someone left a bag of chips and I dipped in it. AND this was after I read that new study about how frying foods in hot temps cause carcinogens to form. That would mean chips and fries. Of course, something I crave will also be Badddddd for me. I hardly ever get a craving for broccoli but I eat it all the time. Blueberries and strawberries too, cause they are good for you. BUT I CRAVE Fritos and Twinkies:?:
Computer question....ever have your keyboard stick? Do you have a cleaning trick?
