  • HELLO CHICKIES ~ we had rain all day today, so it was a good day for some more laundry and cleaning around here. DH needed a good rest anyways. Tomorrow will be our shopping and errand day this week.

HEY PURPLE ~ I probably got all mixed up about when you said your were going to Leicester; my short-term memory isn't as polished as it used to be. When we went to the eye van this spring, we met a couple in their 90's, who were quite spry (they were farmers, I think); he had some trouble hearing, but they were as sweet and friendly as can be. I thought to myself, at the time, wow ... wouldn't it be nice to be that well, at that age; at any age, as they seem to be feeling better than me for sure. Gee, maybe swimming and keeping herself busy has helped that lady keep well too.

Hope you have a wonderful trip tomorrow to Leicester. When we make our weekly trip into town, we like to have either a small lunch out and/or bring home something for dinner. We look forward to the trips that way too: having some fun as we do our errands makes it much more pleasant for us.

HI MEOWEE ~ that's a good idea about the vinegar to attract fruit flies; I keep only bananas on my counter as I like my apples and oranges crisp and cool. I also get seedless grapes and black cherries each week while in season, and keep them in a bowl in the fridge too. I find that they keep much longer this way too: just in time for our next shopping day.

HEYA VALDINE ~ yes, I agree with PURPLE, hope you are feeling much better and having a great week too ...

Have a great evening ladies, and take good care; your friend ROSEBUD
  • Good Morning . . .

Pretty much the same as yesterday around here -- sunny, hot, humid, although it did seem a little cooler first thing this morning, that is rapidly changing.

Still fighting with the fruit flies and they are still winning. Gave them an apple core in a plastic zip-loc baggie this morning, but they are ignoring it -- may actually have to buy them a banana of their very own (since I'm not much of a banana eater) and see if that will attract them to the 'bag of doom'.

Even though it is Thursday, we've decided to pass on the mall-crawl today since we have to go out tomorrow anyway. But, we will be cooking up a batch of Mussels for lunch.

    Hope everybody has a great day . . .
  • Hi Ladies

I have just got back from my trip to Leicester well that was a quick trip by our standards. It was not actually to the city but to a small village near by called "Newton Unthank" one beginning to thing that what were they sniffing when they named that village I suppose if you know the history of the village and how it came by its name it may not seem so strange after all.

Today is exceptionally humid as we have had quick down pours of rain but it remains warm outside the rain as only added to make it more humid. Tomorrow in the city on the place called the embankment they are showing an outdoor film "dirty dancing" but the weather forecast is not good for tomorrow more rain forecast. That is why we do not have outdoor screening of films as the weather is so unclement and unpredictable. It is such a shame as it is a nice setting as well on the river (Trent) embankment.

I am not doing much else today either just relaxing. The council repair man came nice and early and fixed my tap in the bathroom. I also decided that I would use up my bananas that were a little on the ripe side for my personal taste. So put them in the blender along with cocoa powder and vanilla essence. I blended all the ingredient together and put them in little tubs. They are now in the freezer for forth coming days. I bough some coriander today as I have lots of carrots so I think I will be making carrot and coriander soup to use them up. The carrots are the ones sold with the tops on and are very nice and sweet to eat especially raw. I know they cost that bit more to buy but I do get such a nice flavour from them.

Time to put my feet up with the cuppa and have a bit of shut eye. So till tomorrow bye for now

  • The wedding was fun! "The colors were.. navy. green, brown and purple.. and the flowers were orange, red, white, purple and pink. This perfectly reflects my girlfriend's personality. She's sooo laid back.. lol and she had 8 bridesmaids! I got to see a few old friends, catch up.. and even got invited to stay with a friend for VANOC the 2010 olympics.. so of course I'll be submitting a volunteer application for the games ASAP!

Purple -- the food that entire weekend made me pretty miserable. so much fat... it really does me in. But I'm back to my routine and feeling pretty good now. thanks@! Hopefully the humity eases up foryou soon... so the banana smoothie mixture you made is now ice cubes? like mini snacks?

Rosebud thanks for the greetings while I was in Vancouver. I thought I could handle a weekend trip like that.. but unfortunatly I didnt enjoy myself as much as I could have.. or mingled much because I was feeling very anti social. pretty sure it was the exhaustion! Rain over there too eh? We must all be getting it... the entire week up here has been misty. Bad time to misplace my west coast umbrella Are you able to do this weekend's 3fc 5K?

lol Meowee.. I missed something. arent you supposed to try and get rid of fruit flies? not give them fruit?

BREAKING news of the day is scary!!! read this:
    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/st...anscanada.html

I was on two night buses in Manitoba just last weekend. I spent 18 hours total... atleast 12 of those scrunched up on a 2 seat row.. passed out sleeping. I thought it was a kind of funny situation to be sleeping on a bus like that with a bunch of strangers.. but now I will seriously think twice about my money saving bus rides. I may switch to air flights only.... too bad because the bus is sooooo affordable.

    :hugs: take care ladies
    Valdine
  • Hopefully they climb in with the fruit and you can quick like a bunny zip up a bag full of them and toss the whole thing -- personally I use it to keep them in the area where the vinegar jars are in the hopes that more of them will climb into the jars -- I'm not quick enough with the bag zipping it seems.
  • HEY THERE EVERYBODY ~ so nice that everyone dropped by today!!! Well, we had a tres busy day shopping and running errands; and my feet are screaming at me. They had forcasted rain, but thankfully, it didn't come til after we got back home, then we had a small downpour and laughed about how close that was.

NICE TO SEE YA VAL ~ I know a long bus trip like that can be hard; I'm not the biggest bus fan myself, but I always loved the train rides between here and Toronto. Sometimes to go back and forth to college, I would take a bus becuz they pulled the train tracks out of there from lack of use (which shocked everyone really).

I tried one bus trip from Toronto back home here after a holiday down south, and vowed that I would only take a train after that. It was so noisy and crowded; and there were sure some weirdos on that bus that day. Just my misfortune I guess, but we still have a good train that travels to the south on a regular basis, thankfully.

I'm sorry that you were so tired and didn't get to enjoy everything as you hoped, but that invite is great for the 2010 Olympics and that's a great idea about volunteering for the games too: could be some nice perks there. I think I already walked a 5K today: can I count this as part if I do some more walking a the lot tomorrow too? I think that's allowed ...

MEOWEE ~ are you still trying to catch those fruit flies; DH says that they are everywhere and that you can't really get rid of them all, but you may be able to lesson the numbers somewhat. I heard of a remedy years ago, but I'm not sure if it was a bowl of molasses or apple cider; you know ... an old Mennonite trick. There's that memory thing again ~ LOL!

HEY PURPLE ~ so glad that you had a good trip today. Yah, that is a weird name for a town: they could have just shortened it to NEWTONVILLE or something like that, but then that is part of the charm of England, isn't it? OK ... now you just have to tell me the story behind that one; as my curiosity is peeked.

We got a really awesome deal today; the nursery we got our bushes from was still open and gave us a super deal on some more bushes for our hedge. Each bush was still 75% off @ $3.25 each, but we would get one free for everyone we bought as well, so we decided to get another 10, so that we would have enuff to go all the way to the back of our lot. I'll have to remember these end of the season deals next year.

We brought home some BBQ spit chicken for dinner tonight; had it with new potatoes, baby peas, fresh tomatoes, and coleslaw ... yummy!

Well that's all the news for now, so I'll go set up the new AUGUST thread to have it ready for tomorrow. Take good care ladies, your friend ROSEBUD
  • Here's a link to the new August thread . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...32#post2295732 . . . I'm going to close this one and unstick it.
