PMS/PMD out of control eating
I had a consult with the doctor heading our local hospital weight management clinic. They have a great program, but it doesn't look like my insurance is going to cover it, and there's no way to pay for it without insurance.
I met this doctor when she was taking her turn in the walk-in clinic when I was having an asthma/bronchitis attack. She suggested I try a reduced carb/whole grain diet (ala South Beach) and told me about the weight management clinic.
The South Beach style eating really seemed to help with hunger and things were going really well, and I was losing weight again at a decent pace, and then (as usual) for about a week starting 3 days before my period, I ate and ate and ate (at first "legal" foods, and then even that fell apart).
The doctor heading the clinic, suggested stacking birth control to shorten or miss periods (either missing the placebo week with traditional bc packs or using yasmin or others that do the stacking for your). She said progesterone levels seems to often be the cause of monthly cravings and binging, and if I can keep my hormone levels constant, I may be able to avoid the binge week altogheter.
Has anyone had success with this? Any side effects or problems?
