Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy?

Just wondering if any of you are or have tried this????? I just heard about this from my doc. She wanted me to try this out instead of Cytomel??? I just read about it and am not sure it is a safe way. I need to get more info on it and thought I would start here. This is a parmasist(sp) who basically make a medicine(compound) close as poss to the synthetic one but the base is soy or yam.. Interesting concept just new to me.....Let me know Thanks

Is this a thyroid hormone? As in a T3 replacement? I took a special formulary T3 and loved it. It had to be mixed at the compounding pharmacy, and did tend towards expensive. My present doctor, an endo specializing in diabetes, doesn't like special formulary T3, so he took me off it. I have not felt as well since.

Yes it is a similar to cytomel. My doc does not like cytomel but thought maybe this might help with some of my symptoms. She will still give me the synthroid but not the cytomel. I am still not sure if I like it. Were you taking a compound similar to cytomel? How expensive was it a month??? Could you really tell a difference.????? I just am very curious about all this and would love to get some more info.... Thnaks

Biodentical Hormome Replacement

I've been on Biodentical Progesterone for about 2 years; day 14-28 of my cycle. I'm 42 and in Peri-menopuase. My MD did a Hormonal Saliva test which indicated I am Estrogen Dominant (off the chart) with negligible Progesterone. Significant increased risk of Breast Cancer with these high amounts of Estrogen. Initially took some experimentation but found 5 mg once a day made a big difference for me. PMS symptoms leveled right out, sleep was better, significant reduction in mood swings, and no more migraine headaches at that time of the month. Also big reduction in cravings for sugars and carbs which seem to be super intense for the 7 days prior to starting my cycle.

One of the great benefits of Progesterone is that is is associated with tranquility and is a central nervous system relaxant. It binds to the same receptors in the brain as Valium and has a soothing and relaxing effect.

The cost to have the cream compounded is about $7.50/cycle (I live in AB and my Health Care covers the cost) but even if I had to pay out of pocket I would.

There is a tremendous amount of research and information available on the web regarding biodentical hormone replacement. The sources I've found most helpful are the books by Dr. Chhristiane Northurp (Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, Mother-Daughter Wisdom and The Wisdom of Menopause. Another Internationally recognized authority on Natural Hormonal Replacement is Dr. John Lee www.johnleemd.com, here you can find just about everything you would want to know and great tools to share with your Dr.

Good luck with your research.
