Sorry for all the posts. I have way too much energy for 6:55 AM.

MONET - I just read your "rant" and I know exactly how you feel. I have been changing meds for anxiety disorder AND birth control AND diabetes over the past 2 years, all of which added dreaded pounds to my already padded body. I've gained about 25-30 lbs over the past 2 years. A lot of it my own "fault" and metabolism changes, but some through medicine changes. It is so discouraging when you gain weight without changing your eating habits - it's like you are an innocent bystander just watching it happen!

I feel for you and hope you are able to get the meds straightened out fast. I am sick of Dr.'s too. I have just had an insurance change and am "in between" endocrinologists, which especially sucks when your BGL (Blood Glucose Level, from now on) is 560!!!

ARGHHH!
Misa

Oh, my goodness MISA . . .   . . . What a horrible way to wake up. Glad to hear the worst seems to be over and you are on the way back down again. We, Type II's, can't even begin to imagine what a BGL of 560 must feel like, (thank God for small mercies). Maybe you would be better back on injections. The additional need for dietary discipline might help with your weight control goals as well as your BS goals. Please let us know what the Doctor has to say.

My morning was a little strange, too. :dizzy: Got up at 7 am, made coffee, tested my BS (5.1 - 92US) preparatory to making breakfast and then got sidetracked with a little household emergency. Realized at 9 am (because of the way I was feeling), I hadn't had anything but 2 cups of coffee (with cream, mind you); tested again; and was down to 3.2 (58US). Hey, unfortunately life happens and gets in the way of our best intentions for control of both diabetes and weight. We just have to keep doing the best we can. :)

Unfortunately this was not one of my better WWI's either :( . . . I gained .4 of a lb. All things considered (a week that contained 2 litres of full fat - but NSA - ice cream and those tim bits I mentioned yesterday), it could be a lot worse. Hopefully the FFM will take it away (along with some of its friends) by this time next week and I'll get to move my ticker a little further eastward . . . in the meantime, I'm not moving it to the West . . . I just have to catch up to it again. :^:

Anyway, gang, have a great day of moving and shaking and heading in that great downward direction. Just keep doing the good stuff and the rewards will surely follow. :carrot: Type to you again soon.

Hi all. :)

Misa, I'm a Type I also... I was on a pump for 4 years until I changed insurances-they wouldn't pay for supplies. I've been on injections again for about 2 years.
I'm seeing a new doctor who wants to requalify me for the pump, but the last three weeks I've been really really bad about what I've been eating and checking BGs (Wedding, honeymoon, and a holiday will do that!). I got back on the wagon yesterday.
I think my highest reading is 505. I should have went to the hospital but I was able to treat it myself. EEK.

Well all, I'm off to apply for more jobs and work this crappy job of mine.

Hugs,

vikia 11-29-2006 03:35 PM

Wow Misa, glad you are ok and on the way back down! That would definitely freak me out. As a T2, my highest was 204 when I first was diagnosed. I hope your doctor can help you get things to settle better for you.

Meowee, lows are pretty scary too. Sometimes scarier! Glad you are also ok!

Okay gang, I have to get back to work - have a good rest of the day.

Just a fly by...dinner is in the oven, and I just took my Byetta shot. I should be able to eat within the hour.

I had a busy busy day, and accomplished very little! I had a private art student today. We are making silk painted scarves for her to use as Christmas presents. She is a sweet kid and easy as a student. A friend came over this morning for coffee and conversation. The two of us tend to solve all the world's problems when we get together! ;) I have not had much time to do anything else. I am tired though.

MISA: Yowsers! My bg was 485 when I first had it checked, and that was pretty bad....I bet you felt like crap! I hope you can get it back under control quickly. If you don't like the pump, can you change to a better brand, or will you have to go with the injections? I personally have not found it too bad to give myself the Byetta shots, but then, the timing is not as critical for it as it would be with insulin. I am glad you caught the bg problems last night before it caused serious damage!

Off to check on dinner!

Ellen 11-29-2006 06:38 PM

Ok, I apologize! I just realized I did not read the next page of posts! Silly me. Sounds like everyone had a trying day....so... :grouphug:

HEFTY: Any prospects on the job front? I will be praying you find one soon!

MEOWEE: Oh! 58 is pretty low! I hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon....

JOSIAN: You can get back on track...the 'vacation' is over! :) Good luck on the job search!

VIKIA:  At 204 it sounds like you caught it early! Wish I had! It took me weeks to get it down!

ROSEY: I know that feeling..it does feel like a panic for food! Glad your hubby knew what to do! Mine would probably freak out first! haha!

IamMisa 11-29-2006 07:43 PM

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the support and concern. My BGL has been less than 144 all day with two lows, so no more highs today.

I have an appt. with a new Dr. next Weds. to hopefully go back on the injections. I have new insurance now, so I might look into getting on the Omnipod (www.myomnipod.com), a new pump that attaches in full to the stomach, but is disposable and smaller. I am just excited to try the new Dr. because I didn't think much of my previous one.

JOSIAN: Nice to hear from another Type 1. Do you miss the pump? I miss the freedom of injections (i.e. not being attached to me like the ever-present pump). On the day/evening of my wedding, I was so afraid of getting low BGL, I ended up having it hover close to 300 all day and was completely worn out by the end. BTW, Congrats on getting married - that's exciting!

MEOWEE: I don't think you should worry about 4/10 of a lb. I wouldn't count that as gaining, I would count that as maintaining! Seriously, that could easily be water weight. I'm sorry that you had a rough day and I bet tomorrow will be better with better BGL to boot.

MEOWEE, VIKIA AND ROSEY: Lows are SO scary, I agree. They make you feel like you are out of your mind. At least it's nice to hear that you are not alone and that you are not crazy. We have all experienced that odd and terrifying feeling.

MONET: Are you an art teacher? That is what my degree is in! I did it briefly but did not love it. I work with the elderly now and like it a lot. What kind of art do you do? I paint and make crafty things like picture frames, homemade cards, and headbands. I love to cut and glue stuff!

Again, thanks for the kind words today. I needed it!
Misa

Ellen 11-29-2006 09:40 PM

MISA: Yes, I am an art teacher. I taught at a small private school last year in Norcross, but got irritated with what they did to the program over the summer and did not sign my contract for this year. There is another larger private school that is interested in me, perhaps for next year, but we will see... I am primarily a potter. I have worked on the wheel since I started high school up outside of Chicago about 40 years ago. :) I have had a few breaks where I did not work for a few years, but I am back into it again. I have done all kinds of stuff through the years...taught cake decorating, worked as a cake decorator for Publix, pastels, paints, watercolors..drawing... I love it all! Who is your new doctor? I use North Atlanta Diabetes and I don't like them. It is McMedicine as my hubby would say.... I am hoping to find a new doctor on my insurance plan, but there are not many endos on it near me. There are a few up by Northside Hospital, which is convenient, so I may check out one of them. I am leaning towards finding an endo who is also a board certified internist. Then I won't have to have a doctor for my diabetes and a different one if I get a sore throat...ya know? So where did you get your degree? I went to UGA...potter's heaven! :)

Hi gang . . . just flying quickly today. Had unexpected company drop in this morning and now I'm running late for a couple of appointments. Will try to get back later this afternoon.

In the meantime . . . have a great day of doing your very, very best stuff and I'll see you all a little later on. Keep it moving and shaking, buddies. :carrot:

hefty1 11-30-2006 01:48 PM

hope you are feeling better rosey. :) glen

sapphire9 11-30-2006 02:20 PM

Hi, all. We're having a cold spell and I'm loving it! Have been rather bad eating wise. And not exercising either. Part of the problem is that I've little to do at work and have too much time to think about what I want for lunch. To all of you who are having difficulty with the highs and lows - It's been awhile since I've had either. The highest my bg has ever been is in the 300s so I can't imagine what 500 would feel like. My morning bg has been in the 130s this week, which is good for me. The Actos is kicking in.
Glen - :goodvibes - hope that you get a job soon.

vikia 11-30-2006 03:27 PM

Monet & Misa, art is my life as well. I have been a graphic designer for the last 30 plus years. But I started out on an artboard (before computers) drawing, painting, airbrush etc. Always loved portraiture. www.vikianderson.com.

Now I just work out of my home, but there are perks...like when I have hot flashes, I can work in my underwear LOL!

akrosey49 11-30-2006 04:40 PM
