I'm on the China Silk Road, 40 minutes of walking is 3760 steps. But I need to get to Baoji on my trail map. So I guess I'd better log more minutes.

I talked to the Nurse practioner's assistant. I really hate this office! I am shuffled around from one to the other, and they are SO test result oriented. The NP did not like my morning bg levels. Some were high. I know they were high because I ate late, or too much...but no one ASKED me. She just decided I needed to take Amaryl at night to bring them down. This morning's were 104, well within her target range of 90 to 120 for me... I am not sure what I will do, but I do NOT want to take Amaryl. I don't think it is necessary if I am more careful. Gosh, I HATE doctors!

I got a walk in with my daughter and three month old grandson. I even pushed the stroller the whole 1.5 miles! :) The weather here was gorgeous. Very warm and sunny. A definite Indian summer day.

I treated myself to a slice of canadian bacon-spinach-mushroom pizza last night. A treat I have been staying away from because of the crust. But it smelled sooooooo yummy. 2 hours after I was at 166. :o And this morning 115.

So I guess the next time is splurge, I will be eating just the topping and leaving the crust on the plate.;)

Monet: I have not taken Amaryl. What is the drawback versus not taking it? Sorry the Doctor's staff seem to be ignoring you... stop them in their tracks, make sure you are heard, patients must advocate for themselves no matter what.

i love pizza too. my bs goes up also. glen

Good morning! I have been a naughty girl. I have not taken my Byetta in two and a half days. I feel terrific, my bg levels are about the same as when I take it, I have no nausea, and this morning, the scale was down. I am still not taking the Amaryl. I am going to have to communicate with the doctor's office eventually...but for right now, I am enjoying my rebellion and the fact I am getting good results!

VIKIA: Amaryl is a sulfonylurea type drug. They stimuate the pancreas to produce more insulin to handle the blood sugar. To me, I think this is not a good plan. It works to maintain normal bg levels, but at what cost? The pancreas is already over worked, and not able to keep up naturally, so a drug that 'whips' it seems like whipping a tired horse to go faster. In addition, more insulin makes it harder to lose weight, as insulin controls fat storage. My approach the last few days has been to cut out wheat and most carbs, except a bit of fruit and veggies. So far, I am getting ok bg readings. If it starts going up, I will start shooting the Byetta again. As for the doctor not listening, etc., it sure is hard to find a decent doctor these days, isn't it? Most are what my hubby calls McMedicine. I COULD call and be 'heard', but to be honest, I don't want to waste my time sitting on hold, etc. I will look for another endo, and hopefully find one I like who is also an Internist. I would much rather have ONE doctor for my diabetes AND if I get the flu or strep. I do not want to have a whole bunch of doctors who I have to try and coordinate with. Sounds like a recipe for error...

HEFTY: I love pizza too, but I am finding ANY wheat raises my bg. I may try a brown rice flour crust. I try not to have pizza too often...it is so hard to resist!

Morning everyone.. its windy and cold here this am.. we had avery quiet weekend.. the dh hubby was very bored and underfoot so didnt get much done:dizzy: my meds must be doing a terrific job as i eat pizza when i want and my sl dont go up that much..seldom even testing 2 hrs after a meal like pizza are my levels over 130..my dr and the class i took said to test 2 hrs after eating to see how certain foods react for me..if the #'s are over 150 after eating then the food should be avoided..the only thing ive found is that if i eat a snack befor bed my sl are higher in the morning but if i dont they are about 104 fasting.. i take glipazide in the am and 4-500 mg metformin in the evening..and i know i should exercise but dont.. my dr was happy where i was at but of course would be really pleased if i lost weight.. im at a point where i am just bored with it all and am eating what i want within reason and it seems to be keeping the sl where they should be ..am sry that pizza throws your sl up..monet we have to do what works for us and sometimes that means experimenting till we get it right.. hope you find a dr that will listen to you and work with you..hope everyone had agreat weekend.. im getting ready for a big houseful for thanksgiving.. that means house work:?: so i have been doing some everyday so i wont be panicked with all the cooking too.. what do all of you do for the hoildays.. we have the biggest house so we have everyone here and i like it that way.. everyone brings parts of the meal so i dont have to cook it all.. i love this time of year and having my family around me..well im rambling so((((hugs)))) and have agreat day rosey

Hi all. Drizzley day here. Love it! I've been doing poorly with eating. Got to put the brakes on. I, too, went for the pizza yesterday. First time in over a year. Monet - your doctor's office sounds awful. Pawning you off on an assistant to the NP? Time to find a new doc. I had an endo/internist. It was convenient. but she retired. Now I see an internist and an endo and keep them both informed of what the other is doing and prescribing. My internist has a PA but I almost always see him directly. I was on Amaryl about seven years ago, but was taken off it when I lost a lot of weight and my bg was controlled with diet and exercise. Ah, those were the days. Amaryl, being a sulfanarea (sp?) tends to put weight on, although I did lose while I was on it.
Rosey - I don't do anything for Thanksgiving. No close family and no friends that like to cook. Sometimes we go out to dinner but this year I will be staying home and probably have healthy fish. I eat turkey all year so it's not like I'm missing anything. Good luck with your housecleaning. Can you put hubby to work?

vikia 11-13-2006 07:38 PM

I email my Doctor's office my results (it has now been 2 mos since diagnosis).

My results have been very good and the doc says I do not have to test so often as my levels are in control.

So I will test first thing in the am and after dinner.
But, if my fasting level is high in the am, I will test after breakfast.
If I am still high after breakfast, I will test after lunch.

But as long as the morning FBG is ok, I will wait until after dinner for the second test.

Less finger pokes sound good to me.

Hey everyone! The dinner I had to cook for the church leadership tonight went well. I am about to crawl into bed! I skipped my Byetta again today and my bg levels have not been to bad on just Metformin. I did take half an Amaryl tonight because I only had one metformin with me. I need to remember to refill the bottle I carry in my purse. My bgs seem ok...I will be interested to see what the morning fasting level is.

VIKIA: Lucky you! I asked if I could email my bg level chart, and was told it would violate privacy issues. I am not sure why a fax is ok and email is not, but I did not argue. Like there is some kind of privacy problem with blood sugar levels!! Who cares?

ROSEY: You are doing well...and it is cool that you have your bg under such good control that you can have occasional treats, like pizza.

OK, I am falling asleep..I better go crawl in bed! Night!

It is pouring here...lots and lots of rain and the garage is flooding. My hubby found the cause and fixed it... I subbed at the new school in the art classes this afternoon...it was great! LOTS of potential. They called me and asked me to come back tomorrow, but unfortunately, I am going to be out of town, in the mountains doing my pottery. I would have changed it, but my husband took tomorrow off to go with me. I think he would have been a bit put out if I decided not to go! Blood sugar levels were not great this morning...not sure why. Perhaps the stress? I am back on my Byetta...I sure wish it would work again. :(

ROSEY: Stay warm!

akrosey49 11-16-2006 04:20 PM

 hi rosey it's been raining and windy too.
glen :)

sapphire9 11-16-2006 05:33 PM

Hi, all. It's drizzling here. Fine with me. Rosey - I wish I could trade places with you. Nothing I'd like better than to snuggle in with a pot of tea and read a good mystery. Enjoy yourself.
My bg was only 137 this morning. That's low for me in the a.m. The Actos must be kicking in. Unfortunately my insurance company is balking at covering it.
Jeanne - I get tired of work too. Wish mine were more interesting. I am bored.
