Carol Sue I am sorry I said magnesium, but it was potassium that that the new doctor took away and never put it back. I think it is very necessary to be sure to take it. The original doctor he had checked it all the time. It is just as dangerous to have too much as it is to not take enough. I remember going to the hospital over night one time because it had gone to high. I always take potassium when taking Lasix especially now that I am taking the same amount he was taking because I know it can pull the potassium down. I guess I'm doing okay with that amount of Lasix as my potassium is always right in the middle of the range they want it according to labs. I do take magnesium but I don't think that has anything to do with that. They put me on it when I was in the hospital.
Carol Sue I have had to wear Walmart brand of depends since I went through chemotherapy. I have just kept wearing them which helps with the leakage or when I can't make it to the potty fast enough during the night. It doesn't happen all the time, but it is better than leaking on the bed. I'm also trying to learn to not drink much after 8 o'clock at night like many have to do with their children. DH#2 was 65 when he died. Heart problems ran in his family. He didn't have CHF until he was in his late 50s or early 60s. He was never overweight and I don't think there was anything he wouldn't at least try to eat. He loved to eat. He told people that he loved to eat and I loved to cook and he would eat all the time if he could keep me in the kitchen cooking. He never could understand why I was overweight because he told people that I ate a lot less than he did. His grandfather had a heart attack and stopped smoking and lived to be 82 or 83. His grandmother had angina and lived to be in her 70s. His mother worked in medical insurance in hospital and doctor's offices and learned to eat healthy, but had CHF just a few years before she died in her 70s. I don't know how old his Dad was when he died or if he was ill or not. Weight was up to 162.8 and FBG 123 so chicken and dumplings is something we will continue to eat only once a year. DH FBG was 99 but he takes Farxiga and G. If I wasn't going to the dentist in a few minutes, I would take one of his G, but it probably will be back down tomorrow. DH is going to Walmart while I get my teeth cleaned then we will get KFC because he is out of cole slaw. I just drank a protein shake for breakfast and a c of coffee. I will have to hit the water when I get home. Won't be long till we have to leave to go to the dentist. I'll be so glad to get my teeth cleaned and get back home and hunker down for the wintry mix that is supposed to hit tomorrow. Have a good day Everyone. |
Trish, when my first Cardiologist put me on Lasix he also put me on Potassium. This cardiologist did not.I will ask about that. When i has my bowel surgery and had to fast in the hospital they had to put me on IV potassium because it went too low. I dont know why it went low. This cardiologist works more with replacing heart valves rather than general cardiology. I have to make an appointment with him soon.
We will probably go to Walmart tomorrow. I want to be sure to take a list to make sure I dont forget anything. DH is still working on the sink and needs some tape to wrap the leaky pipe. My dog isnt doing well and I dont know why. Maybe a trip to the vet is in order. He is 12 years old which is a senior dog. He has had very little medical problems in his life. He has been drinking lots of water. Now he cant jump up onto the couch which he normally does all the time. |
Carol Sue I'm sorry your Rusty isn't feeling well. I know it is difficult when they get old and have health problems and we lose them
Got my teeth cleaned and am thankful all is okay. I'm good now until July when I get them cleaned again. I've 2 old fillings that are turning black and DH said I should get them refilled so will do that in July. Had a good day but I'm tired and ready to go to bed tonight. It should be freezing rain by the time I get up in the morning. Goodnight. |
Rusty slept thru the night but has difficulty moving around. We are trying to get him to eat.
My sleep was good. My Fitbit was on charge and I intended to come out here and get it before i fell asleep but I fell asleep and forgot. I had my old Fitbit on. It measured sleep as 7+ hours but no details I ke the new one gives. Scale has been stuck at 180.8 for 3 days. I don't know if its stuck or thats my weight. Blood sugar was a little elevated. Im cooking some chicken for Rusty. He will usually eat chicken. We gave him half a baby aspirin which weve done before. He will sleep and then might feel better. It worked last rime then he was ok for about 6 months. DH put him on the couch, but if I leave his sight he jumps down and comes looking for me. He loves Mommy. |
Carol Sue Glad you got good sleep. I'm doing that too, but I'm sure it is the weather that is causing me to sleep good because it is so cozy under the covers. I sure hope Rusty starts feeling better soon.
Weight is the same for 2 days now 162.8 lbs. Don't know if I can keep that or not since I am eating different during the cold days. We will have chili today for dinner and have it with frankfurters tomorrow. Today my fiber and sodium will be high because of the beans in the chili. FBG back down to 117 and the bp was good too. I guess I could get my fiber up if I ate more beans which is not low carb. I had English Lite MG with sausage, egg and cheese for breakfast with my protein shake and coffee. Tem is 37 degrees and not supposed to go much higher. Wintry mix hasn't started and I think we are just going to have rain with a little bit of snow during the night but don't think it will last very long so no snow coverage per se for us. Of course with the temps down in the 20s at night, we will wake up to icy streets and side weeks. I think about how we loved waking up to snow when I was young and didn't bother us getting out in it. If we couldn't drive, we could walk. Now at this age we just want to be able to stay home and just look at it so we can stay safe and not fall. Now I just thank God for taking care of me and all my loved ones... friends and family across the USA because so many have lost their homes as well as family members during the hurricanes in the east and now the fires in CA. So far the ones I know are safe, but have a niece who was the 1st wife of the nephew whose wife died and she told me she is safe so far, but watching the fires as she live in LA. She me to keep praying for her. So I feel pretty blessed right now. Hope everybody is safe. |
My step childrens mother lived in LA but she passed away. Her sister and brother still live there. And her youngest son. He is maybe 30. He wantsnothing to do with my step children because they didnt come to her funeral but he was a baby and is listening to what others are saying. He never really knew her like they did.
Rusty is hanging in there, sleeping but when i go to the bathroom he follows me. Not walking very well. Hes eating and drinking and going outside. When they stop eating thats bad. I think our snow is done for a while but the weather in Texas is headed our way soon. Thats what it shows on the news. |
Rusty is walking much better, about back to normal, but still cant jump up onto the couch. He's a little dog.
I slept good but got up twice for the bathroom and to check on Rusty. He sleeps on the bedroom floor. I didnt weigh yet. It went down to 6 degrees last night. Its supposed to warm up into the 20s for a couple days then back down to the single digits Wednesday night. I cant wait til summer. Im getting too non old for this. I might have to stop eating eggs. They are almost $5 dozen at Walmart and are going to increase again. This is because of the bird flu. We know a guy who has chickens and sells the eggs. He has raised his to $3 dozen. I would like to get eggs from him but DH doesnt want me to because they are not checked the way store eggs are. Our dog groomer also sells eggs that he just asks for a donation but I think he has regular people who buy them. He has them in a refrigerator in the grooming shop. Once I bought free range eggs at the store and they were good, but expensive. What will i do if i have to stop eating eggs?? |
Carol Sue I am glad that Rusty is feeling better. I pray he continues to get better. My DD has a little furbaby too. I don't remember what he is but he is cute and he is so important to her. She laughs because she says he knows she is talking to me and when we get ready to hang up he will whine and bark because he doesn't want me to hang up. The do have their personalities.
I'm not doing well with dieting. I buy the eggs, but cutting back on how much I eat of them. I bought the English muffins. I can eat one egg and either a slice of bacon or 1 sausage piece with cheese. Drinking my 30 g protein drink helps me keep my protein up, so I don't have to eat more eggs. I didn't go with DH to Walmart so I don't know how much they are there, but I was buying Cage Free Jumbo eggs at local store because they are very good quality eggs, but had to get Extra Large this time because they were almost $6. I had cereal this morning with my protein shake instead of milk no eggs. I will still eat eggs but just not as much as I used to. If I lived close to my beautician, she would give me eggs, but she lives too far from me even for free eggs. If she has some extras when I go get my perm next week, I will pay her for a dozen unless she insists on giving them to me free like she did the last time I went. Right now I'm eating such a variety of foods that I'm not going to consider myself on a diet. I just want to eat what I want when I'm hungry. Until prices come back down or whatever, it is easier to eat a variety. Weight up a lb, but other numbers are good. We didn't get any snow and the temps were high enough in 30s that rain didn't freeze. Still cold today 38 degrees right now. Sure makes it easy to stay in bed later these days. I didn't get up until after 9 am which is very unusual for me. I need to start going to bed at midnight so I can get up at 8ish each morning. We will have chili dogs today and I will attempt to get back on a 2MAD and hope I can be successful at it. Trying to eat high protein and high fiber at the same time isn't all that easy and I don't think it can even be worked into a low carb woe. Hope everyone has a good day and stay warm and safe. |
I dont know whats going on with Rusty. One minute he seems better, the next he seems worse. He still going out to pee, drinking water, but not eating. Sleeping most of the day,but if I get up to go somewhere he follows me.
Thats funny about the dog who knows shes talking to you. DH often puts his brother on speaker phone and Rusty can hear him. He barks and barks. He doesnt like DHs brother if he comes here, but I think brother is afraid of dogs. We didnt get much snow overnight. They salted our road so its clear. I slept good but got up a couple times to check on Rusty. Went back to sleep easily. Scale finally went down .8 to 180.0. I might make meatloaf for dinner. I'll see what DH wants! Ddidnt lose my pound for the first week. I lost .6 . I'll. As long as I lose something each week. take it. I dont expect to be perfect but i need to try harder! |
Carol Sue prayers continue for your little fur baby. Could he be dealing with diabetes? I think some dogs do as they get older. Just a suggestion as I have no idea what it could be. Drinking a lot of water just suggests something. He may need a Vet and a prescription to feel better.
Congratulations on the .6 lbs. My weight stayed the same with eating differently. Still 163.8. FBG was 119 so that is high and what I mostly judge things by. I will not stop dieting or low carb woe. Interesting thing that happened yesterday was that when I went on FB yesterday, I got notice that I was tagged on the Keto for Cancer doctor's group. She was talking to us about lactate and how it affects cancer cells. She invited us to ask about anything we wanted to ask her. I wrote her about my dilemma of 40 mg of Lasix while eating keto/low carb. She told me that I would have to watch my blood pressure closely because my medication would have to be decreased while doing keto/low carb. I bought her newest book titled Keto Oncology and am reading it. Unlike her 1st book she will give a list of foods to eat and not eat plus a sample of a days eating. It will be nice to have the guide. I learned that they don't want you to lose weight when on chemo because you lose a lot on chemo. However, I am no longer on chemo but Immunotherapy. However, they don't want to see an aggressive loss can mean the cancer is either back or the tumor you are trying to starve is getting glucose and growing. So I think this means that my treatment is working since I'm stable and not gaining or losing aggressively. That is a blessing. So, I won't know until I read the book, but at this time I believe if I can lose slowly maybe a 1/2 to 1 lb a week then that would be a good thing. She did tell us on FB that the important thing is to eat less carbs and plenty of protein. She said whey protein or even pea protein is best and eat fat but not enormous amount when trying to lose weight. I get the feeling she isn't one who thinks you need to be drinking olive oil or eating coconut oil, etc. I'll know more when I read the book. Weather is back to the 50s for the coming week. Never got snow and no ice just nice steady rain. Today we are having tilapia. Have a nice Saturday everyone. I've got some reading to do. |
I skimmed through the book to see how she says to eat. She recommends Modified Atkins Diet. There are several books using Atkins and the book which I have that Dr. Westman co-authored The New Atkins for the New You is on the list. I have that book as well as the cookbook so I will continue with that plan. Not sure I will go back to eating only 20 g of carbs or not but I will continue to eat less. I do like learning to use a variety of good foods that fit into a low carb woe.

Trish, I have the book New ATKINS FOR A NEW YOU. Its been years since I read it. I donated a lot of my diet books but I didnt think I donated any of my Low Carb books. I like to have them to refer to. I went way over today on calories and carbs,so I dont expect a good number on the scale tomorrow.
I think the problem with losing weight with cancer is if you lose but are not trying to. I think if they are concerned about your weight you can tell them you are trting to lose and could teol them how much you weighed several years ago. You have been dieting to lose weight for a while now. I dont think your weight loss was from the cancer. As long as you are eating healthy youre doing good! Thats just my opinion but I cant imagine the doctor disagreeing with that! I love talapia. DH will not eat it. I wish I could buy it but not if I have to cook something eose for him. |
Carol Sie I went on FB and searched for Moderate Atkins Diet and found a really good group. They are for people who do keto, low carb or Atkins whatever. They do not tolerate criticism of what people eat. Someone had eaten a small potato and someone told them it was okay if they included it in the carb count. I've learned a lot and will use some of their ideas of eating. Some do net carbs and some do total count of carbs. A lot of them also do IF... fast more than others. I think I will stick with the 16:8 ratio at least for now. (t seems that some eat 20 g, some 30 g and some even 40 g of carbs. Most don't worry about fiber except for what they get in their veggies. They say you don't have to count calories as long as you count carbs. Of course, you can do it however you want to do. It seems the key is to learn how to make your plan fit your lifestyle. One person I saw seemed to have days she is stricter than others.
I also looked up Premier Protein shakes for cancer immunotherapy patients. I watched a review on it and learned that it really isn't supposed to be for meal replacement but for snack and was even suggested using it in coffee. I think when I finish my sugar free coffee creamer that I will switch to eat just to get an extra amount of protein shake as a creamer and eat my protein. Tomorrow I'm cooking chicken leg quarters and veggies and work at learning to keep my carbs under 40 g total, not net. |
Trish,I have never counted net carbs. My fiber is never very high. Did you join that group?
Sleep was pretty good last night. It is very cold here. I think today is going to be the coldest day so far. We got a little more snow overnight. DH just told me we have to go to Walmart for a few things. I havent ben out for 2 days. I cant stand the thought of it! Brrrrrrr I dont want to get on the scale today because I ate so much yesterday and I feel very fat. I get very depressed when I see the number continue to go up,especially since Ive been at 180 most of the week. We were supposed to go to the casino today because of a giveaway they are having for an auto safety kit. He looked closer and saw that it is jumper cables and a flashlight which he does not ned or want. Im so glad because I really didnt want to go today. |
Carol Sue Yes, I did join the group. I got some ideas for things to cook and eat or how to cook things I already eat but cook them a little different. I think it will be really helpful to me.
I looked to see what I weighed the last time I checked in on MFP and was pleased to see that I am 1.6 lbs down from Jan 1st. That actually makes me feel better as I get back on my low carb woe. I had 2 sl bacon, 2 eggs a little bit of cheese on a low carb tortilla for breakfast. I am using 1 the Premier Protein shake in my coffee so that I will get 30 grams of protein today. If I have to I will drink what is left of it when I finish drinking coffee for the day. I usually don't drink coffee after dinner. So will drink the rest with my supper. I need to break some bad habits so I will eat cooked veggies with dinner and once I'm finished with the little containers of flavored Greek yogurt, I will buy plain Greek yogurt and use allulose sweetener in it for 2 reasons. 1 it lowers diabetes and it fights cancer so the tumors can't grow. I will also learn how to cook with allulose so DH and I can have our cookies we like without the sugar alcohols. For any diabetic lurkers, I need to let you know that you can eat too much allulose and if you do expect to have diarrhea. The only way I know how to explain how allulose keeps glucose under control is that it acts like a bully fighting for the attention keeping it low. I have to research to learn how it works against tumors as I just read that yesterday. I've made tuna salad for supper tonight. My calories and carbs as close as I can figure is just under 1350 and carbs total carbs 52 g. which will be eaten between 12 noon and 8 pm. So a good plan for day one back on track. This is all encouraging to me because I'm finally on a plan that will work with the Immunotherapy treatment I'm on. Carol Sue Glad you don't have to go to casino today. How is Rusty doing today. Have a blessed Sunday everybody. |
