Just stopping in to say hello and I'm back to posting again. After seeing 190.5 on the scale I think it's time :)

p.a., what is up with your eyes?
it reminds me that I started this recent journey with my eye test. I go every year because my pressures are high and they are checking for glaucoma. However, this year there was a small bleed in one retina. They suggested I go to my doctor to have it checked. I did blood work since, and saw her afterward, and she wanted a full GTT with me off metformin to see if the metformin is masking full diabetes. I am not quite, but close and certainly worse than before going on metformin. For the most part, I was exercising, but not diligently enough I think. So I have the new garmin vivo watch to help track exercise, and working on the weight loss etc. Back to Blood Sugar 101, the site reminds me that diabetic retinopathy and changes to peripheral nerves can happen even at pre-diabetic levels. I am not totally back to low carb, but lowering again. Had a piece of birthday cake yesterday at the office, and it wrecked my numbers for the rest of the day and this morning. everything was high, so even with meds can't tolerate that! I will be asking to increase the metformin to 1500 to 2000 mg/day and will consider alternate medications too. In any case, the weight is slowly going to down again. Will see how things go. |
Computer no longer works. Hoping to get a new one today. Be back when I do. Have a great wekend.

Hi Mad,,,I have diabetic macular Edema,,,,or in other words ..leaking blood vessels in both eyes, due to diabetes. The injections have improved it so much my vision has gone back to 20/20. It was happening so slowly I didn't even notice my eyes were so bad.
I didn't realize Drs would put you on metformin when you arn't diabetic,,I guess it's preventative. Trish hope you get back here soon! Low carb is agreeing with me,,scale is dipown a few pounds and hunger isn't near as bad. I almost felt out of control over the holidays,,never really felt full. That good old sugar monster strikes needing to be fed over and over.... |
well, its the small bleed in my retina that helped get me back on track, back to the doc, and (I hope) taking control again. Yes the sugar monster is indeed my enemy p a . Today there was a cake at the meeting, and some banana muffins. I thought having the muffin would be better, but truly, was almost as bad. And my BG after brunch was high, probably from having toast and jam.
I am having trouble syncing my vivo move watch, very disappointing and not sure what to do and whether I should keep it. There is no easy help desk that I can find to walk me through it. I bought it from Medicalert, and I think I have to send it back through them too. These things should be simpler. argh. |
Mad, there is a Vivofit Community (forum) online. Maybe you could go there and see if someone has an answer to your problem. I have found a lot of help with my Fitbit on the Fitbit community.

Got my new pc and learning the new keyboard. It is different from the Dell I had. Also touchy as I seem to have a tendency to rest my thumb on the space bar. LOL Any way, spending tonight to get the everything set up. Strange thing is the first place I went on the internet was come here to 3fc. LOL. I will be back later or tomorrow to share some things. Glad to see old faces returning.

First I want to say "hello Rennie", It is good to see you here again. We all are seeing numbers that are making us get back OP here. Please do stay around.
I've decided to lower my carbs below 90 g. I recently read in an article from WebMD about foods to avoid if your triglycerides are high and another article that said eating more calories than you burn raised triglycerides. The foods that cause triglycerides are starchy carbs. This made me wonder why even WebMD along with dieticians insist that we still eat a lot of starchy carbs. This just makes things more complicated. The thing I seem to see is that while some starchy carbs are healthier in moderate portions, there seems to be a lot of others that are not as good for us, we should rarely eat if we do eat them. I keep reading in many of these articles that protein and fat do not raise blood sugar, but they still keep recommending that we eat the higher carb foods. I have really been looking at a lot of these things since my Daddy's recent health problems. I told him that I am trying to learn from what has happened to him. I'm still using MFP and changed the ratios of protein carbs and fat. I want to keep my carbs less than 90 g (20 to 25%)and divide the other percentage between the protein and fat. Weight is up 2 lbs this week, but we ate out a lot more this week than I wanted to. Hopefully we will be able to have more home cooked meals this week. FBS was 113. Sometime it goes to 132, but no higher so I'm happy with that. DS and I take DD to cardio clinic tomorrow morning and I want to talk to the nurse about some changes on his meds since I'm the one who keeps up with his meds. The night we had to take him to ER because he ate almost a whole pecan pie, we had given him an extra Lasix but the homebound nurse had us take him to the ER. The ER doctor changed his med schedule to us giving him 2 Lasix and upped 1 of his other meds to a full dose instead of the 1/2 dose he was on. We had to stop the 2 Lasix back to 1 because he is eating the right amount sodium... the extra with the pecan pie was a one time thing. 2 Lasix was making him lethargic so we went back to the original way of taking it. His bp is still too low and I think the other med should go back to the 1/2 dose, but we decided to talk to the cardio nurse before changing it back. All this has made me see the importance of eating right and since low carb seems to keep down swelling etc, I don't see any other way to eat if I want to be healthy. New week lets hope we can all get back to what we know works for us to make us healthy and get this part of our lives under control. Have a blessed day Everybody. |
Trish I really think it's because the drug companies make so much money from us....if we all ate what we were 'supposed' to I know I wouldn't be on half my meds...
Scary about your dad,,,a whole pecan pie? ,,, ouch. |
Hi all: just visiting periodically, no internet at home again, so just signing on when at the office, but often too busy while here. Any one know of a good data counter I can put on my MAC?
Doing well with diet, will move the ticker after the weekend if I stay here, but didn't lose the 10 pounds I was hoping for before seeing the doctor on Tuesday. Must get my repeat blood work in the meantime too. Have been good about walking on the treadmill or outside on the walking trail pretty regularly. I am enjoying that. Goal for the weekend is food and bs tracking again. best wishes everyone ttfn |
Dieting and counting calories etc are not working for me so I am going back to Intuitive Eating.

Hi everyone:
having a good weekend with some work but not crazy busy. DD is visiting, I may have mentioned my oldest is getting a divorce. we are disappointed for her, but better when there are no kids involved and she is moving on and being happy in her life again. The stress of the last year is abating and we are all doing better. I have stayed on track, but did have a beer with supper last night, and the extra carbs showed on the scale this am, will see how it is tomorrow when I am on track today. Snowing here, best wishes for a happy Sunday friends. |
Hi everyone! I have not been on the scale for a while because I "feel fat" and don't want to face the music. I don't know what's going on with me, but my tastes are really changing. I no longer have interest in the foods that used to be staples for me, like eggs, and chicken. I eat them when they are presented, but not with the enthusiasm I used to have. I used to cook chicken thighs and legs at least once a week to have on hand for snacks for me and the dog. LOL I haven't done that for 2 weeks, and the dog ate most of what I made last time. But I'm not losing weight. I'm still eating, but more carbs than usual, like bread and potatoes. I have to figure this out.
Also, we went to the casino and all I ate from the buffet was prime rib and broccoli. We have been going on Saturday instead of Friday, and on Saturday there is no peel and eat shrimp or salmon. That's the big difference for me. It doesn't bother DH because he is mainly a beef eater and eats very little seafood. Another thing. Remember when I told you that DH does not like when we go out to eat and I order something small. Well, we went out last night and I was hungry for a tuna salad sandwich. He was so mad because he said I could make that at home, but then I told him, if I did, there wouldn't be anything for him to eat. At the restaurant, he can order what he wants. I told him for 30 years I've been ordering what he wanted me to order and now I'm ordering what I want. So I had a cup of soup and my sandwich, and I was very satisfied with that. He wanted the pork chop dinner, but wouldn't order it because I was ordering small. Well, that's his loss. He ordered a burger and fries. I did not want to sit there and eat a big meal that was not what I was hungry for. If I stick to my guns, he will start to order what he wants, and allow me to do the same. So I am not following any particular plan. I will always try to keep carbs on the low side for my blood sugar, but I guess I'm doing IE, eating what I am hungry for. I just have to keep my quantities low enough not to overeat. Mad, I am sorry to hear that your DD is getting a divorce. It's hard to see your child go through that, but maybe it's better for her in the end. I hope so. Trish, hope your Dad is doing well, and you are getting back on track. |
Hi gang: have my laptop at home and checking in out of the office, since I won't be there for a couple of days.
Weight back down to ticker and feeling ok. Did the repeat blood work today, for the potassium which was a bit high, and did a random glucose, as a check on my glucometer. I see the doctor tomorrow. Not sure what she will plan. I have been doing well on my own I think, and I will start doing a food and bg diary for a bit too. Tonight was angel hair pasta, (dream fields) with meat sauce. No added sugar in the sauce. Will see how I do in two hours. Busy day, but got my steps in with the treadmill before I left the house and going from car into houses, as it was mostly a home visiting day. Carol Sue, I am glad you are sticking to your guns and ordering what you want and avoiding over eating by peer pressure. Trish, do what works, but work it! and hello to everyone else and hope you are starting a good week. |
I will try this again. Typed a long post earlier and it wouldn't accept it. Some kind of a security glich or something.
DD is doing much better. Home nurse asked him today if he was driving yet and of course we thought the go ahead has to come from cardiologist and we see him March 6th. She told him that patients can usually go back to driving once they are released from home care. While is looking forward to driving again, he would rather wait for doctor's okay. She also asked if I was still getting his meds ready for him each week, so they may be wanting him to start doing that on his own. DH set up a great program for his meds which I use to set them up and I'm sure he will have no problem using it when he is ready. Our lives are slowly getting back to normal. Carol Sue - Great on ordering what you want. DH and I share meals sometimes although we don't always order the same foods. When we order different foods, then we can share foods that we like. Then we have times that we just want to do our own thing which works great for us either way. Fatmad - I'm glad you are doing better with your eating and activity. Hope you get the answers and help that you need when you see your doctor. Eating is only fair however the one thing that I do seem to be doing well at this time is my exercise 5 to 6 days a week. I am almost addicted to it. Interesting. I found an good IE support group on FB and hope to get some good help reading of their experiences. Have a great week everybody. |
