Carol Sue Will be getting a new keyboard for this computer. You are doing good yourself. You always do good at the casino.

I am going to start checking FBG just before I eat breakfast instead of when I first get up. I don't break fast until 10 or 11 am. I just checked before breakfast and it was 112. So it is right with the lower weight. All is good.

I am still doing IF along with WW. Didn't plan it that way, it just seemed to fall in place that way. So I will continue with an 8/16 to 9/15 ratio.

First of all happy belated birthday Carol and happy belated anniversary Trish
Trish nice going on the new low....

Tomorrow I'm going to start to get back into ketosis....still too many carbs sneaking into my days.

fatmad 01-29-2017 10:14 PM

Hi gang:
Have started doing some testing again, will plan to test a couple of times per day. Fasting yesterday was high at 7.9 and pc was 9 after lunch, which was a sandwich on brown. I didn't test today, as I was out of sorts after broken sleep.
We went to a potluck tonight and there were some great desserts, I had peach cobbler and a fruit crisp, and a tiny chocolate square. After days of now treats I of course over-indulged. Will do a bedtime test tonight. Plan to take them into the doc.
I am wondering about getting a new meter though, this one is old, I wonder about accuracy. They are free, maybe I should get a new one.

Im excited for your new low trish, and while I would support you doing ww, keep doing whatever got the weight down. maybe all the changes help you.

I am working to be more active. I got a vivo move watch from medic alert to have the activity tracker (lost my fitbit ages ago) as well as the medic alert.
Have been using the treadmill days when I don't go to the trail with the dog. Weather has been an issue around here.

early to bed tonight, am off call this week. sleep every night I hope, hope for no insomnia
ttfn

fatmad 01-30-2017 06:35 AM

about those labs:
for americans, multiply the glucose values by 18
fasting 6.8 (122)
one hour 15.9 (yikes) (286)
2 hour 9.9 (178)

in addition potassium is slightly high, at 5.3, other kidney stuff is fine, like creatinine, GFR and sodium are normal.
ALT (a liver function test) also slightly high at 37, but ALK Phos is normal, so I think these slightly elevated levels don't really reflect a problem

triglycerides are fine at 0.97
but my HDL cholesterol is on the low side at 1.30 and LDL (the bad kind) is high at 3.52 for a ratio of 4.0 which does not make me happy.

so theres the news. I am considering how to proceed, in the meantime am down in pounds a bit.

Wannabehealthy 01-30-2017 11:23 AM

Nothing new for me here. I just ate my breakfast of scrambled eggs. I wonder if I will ever get sick of eggs. I did get sick of chicken thighs, and am starting to prefer white meat. Never liked white meat before. Who knows what's going on with my tastes and appetite. Too bad I have a bunch of thighs in the freezer. LOL

I had a funny thing happen yesterday. We were standing in a restaurant waiting to be seated and an old man walked by. He poked me in the belly and said "You pregnant?" LOL Old people have a way of just blurting things out, and touching strangers in that way is a big NO NO. I didn't know whether to be insulted that he thought I looked pregnant, or flattered that he thought I looked young enough to be pregnant. DH said to go with the latter.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, p.a. I know about carb creep. Sometimes for me it doesn't creep, but just plunges right on in! LOL Best it get rid of it as much as we can.

Mad, I'm glad you're getting your labs done so you can see exactly where you stand. Good or bad, it's best to know and form a plan of action. I wish you much luck with that. I hope you got some extra sleep on your days off. Your hectic off and on schedule doesn't help with weight or blood sugar.

Trish, I saw a commercial for Trulicity this morning. It seems to really be helping you with the weight and blood sugar. Glad you found a drug that helps. I'm still being stubborn. I'm still insisting that I can do this with diet and exercise, but it really is hard, and it's really tempting to go with the meds. I can't say that I won't, just not yet. I will give myself til summer to make a positive change. I know I can do it if I set my mind to it. Each day I start out well, with my scrambled eggs. They are still a favorite of mine for breakfast and keep my energy up and my cravings down for a long time. I rarely have lunch since we eat supper early. That's where portions come in to play, and that's what I need to work on. That and exercise. Exercise, my big downfall. Why? I have the equipment right in my house. What more could I want? No excuse that I don't want to go out. My only excuse is that the downstairs is cold, but that's preferrable to hot when it comes to exercise. And time....I'm retired. All the time I could every want. Just rambling on to myself.....

pattygirl63 01-30-2017 03:08 PM

Madeleine I am glad you got fairly good rest result that will help you make plan to get better numbers later. I like being able to get a copy of the blood work numbers every 3 months so that I can see where I have improved and where I haven't and need to do improve them. That is actually why I have chosen the WWSP path for me to follow.

Carol Sue I am very happy with the way Trulicity is working for me. I am equally thankful that I need to use a healthy diet and exercise for it to work.

I don't eat dark chicken much any more. Not because I don't like it, but because it so much easier to cook chicken tenders and not have bones to go in the trash. I also like cooking meals that take only 15 or 20 minutes at the most.

DS and I are taking every other day to go see after DD. I went today and stayed a couple of hours. I wanted to go get a few TV dinners the cardio nurse/dietitian recommended that he could eat. I noticed the other day that his feet and legs were scaly so I bought some lotion that is supposed to correct that. It is strange how my DS and I have become more parent like when it comes to taking care of him and his home. I told him this morning that a lot of things I do when I'm there are the very things I did when I worked before I married DH. I worked for nursing service that sent us in homes to help homebound people with meds, showers, cook meals and even clean or help them clean their homes. I had one lady that I would take shopping and out to eat when she wanted to go. Now all that experience is being used taking care of my DD.

Weight was still 212.8 this morning. FBG was 130 because I took it early since I was going to Daddy's. I went to Whatabuger and got taquitas for breakfast, but checked it out online nutrition and used my WW calculator and found out 1 tequila is 12 points.so I chose to eat 2/3 of it for 8 points and trash the rest. The one I would make at home would be 8 points for the whole thing. So I was able to keep my breakfast points at the 8 points I normally eat.

DS and I are both experiencing dizziness because of Trulicity, but think it is because we get busy and forget to eat. We may need to work in a small snack between meals to keep that from happening. That is a warning of a side affect of Trulicity.

Wannabehealthy 01-30-2017 04:30 PM

Trish, after my mother had her heart attack the doctor arranged for someone to come to the house to help her because she still had to take care of my disabled brother. She didn't want a stranger in her home and she sent the woman away and told her not to come back. LOL

I hope you are being careful about the dizziness since both of you drive. I read the list of side effects for Trulicity and only one site mentioned dizziness. I think most diabetes meds are to be used in conjuction with diet and exercise. Here is what it says about Metformin.

Metformin is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar.

A lot of people probably don't think of that and just assume the meds take care of it by themselves.

I had a delicious dinner today. I had grilled salmon with brussels sprouts and carrots, with a small baked potato. I love salmon. DH eats it sometimes, but he didn't want it today so I grilled a steak for him. I found this dinner to be as good as or not better than most restaurant meals I've had. I buy the frozen bags of salmon at Walmart.

pattygirl63 01-31-2017 10:23 AM

Carol Sue I agree that all diabetic meds are supposed to be used with diet and exercise, but it is sad that a lot of people don't do that if they control with the meds only. I never wanted that for me. I just wanted something to help me to see results or rewards for my hard work and Trulicity seems to do that for me.

I am ending January with a FBS of 118 and a 5.4 weight loss. I am happy with that... not a fast loss which is better at my age since I don't want to wrinkle. It would love to lose 5 lbs a month then I would almost to goal by the end of this year. I'm give it my best shot. :)

I don't cook salmon. No matter how I cook it, it always turns out too dry. I usually buy canned and make salad when I eat it. DH doesn't like either.

Fatmad and p.a.

Wannabehealthy 01-31-2017 10:45 AM

Trish, it took me a while to learn how to cook salmon. I buy bags of frozen salmon at Walmart. I defrost it and pat it dry, then salt and pepper. I spray a grill pan with olive oil spray and cook the salmon for 4-5 min on one side then turn it over. If the salmon is a little thicker cut I sometimes put a lid over it to keep the heat in. It turn out as good to me as it is in a restaurant. I also use canned sometimes. I either eat it plain, or I make salmon patties. DH will eat the salmon patties or the grilled salmon, but not as often as I like it.

I also don't agree with people who eat whatever they want and just use meds to control their blood sugar. If you do that, you usually need to keep increasing the meds. One of the first things they tell you when you are diagnosed is change your diet and start exercising. So many people don't want to hear that.

A 5 lb loss in a month is GREAT! Do that every month for a year and you're down 60 lbs.

Wannabehealthy 01-31-2017 02:50 PM

Trish, I know that you understand that all diabetes meds are to be used in conjunction with diet and exercise, but I mentioned that more for any lurkers we may have so they would understand that, and not think that's itos only Trulicity. I don't think doctor's specify that when they prescribe a med, plus I think they should allow the patient to try diet and exercise alone before they start them on meds. They are sometimes too quick to write a prescription.

I have decided to rethink the popcorn. LOL Today I bought some that is 15 net grams of carb per serving. I am going to measure out a serving, and learn to be satisfied with that. I really do like it and don't want to give it up altogether. My friend who lost 30 lbs has been doing that with her snacks she likes and she is able to control her portions. If she can do it, I can do it. It's very odd that this popcorn that is an off brand bought in Aldi's has a lower carb count that the one I bought in Walmart that was supposed to be healthier. Gotta read the labels!

p.a. 02-01-2017 11:07 AM

Morning everyone, I'm off for my eye injections today. My opthamoligist told me I should start going every 2 months after today and then he will monitor to make sure my eyes stay 'dry'
Been lowering my carbs every day,,,I'm not starving these days and have eaten breakfast and then a snack later in day,,then a later supper. So far so good.

Carol popcorn is my red light food,,,I cannot portion control it at all.....
Funny thing about how I'm feeling right now...I have treats in my house for my grandkids, they arn't calling my name but I have a bowl of apples on my counter that are screaming my name as I walk by. I used to eat an apple every day. Since I've stopped eating them my hunger level dropped,,,interesting. All that sugar in the apple making me crave more sugar...

pattygirl63 02-01-2017 12:12 PM

P.a. It interesting the things we learn that we can and cannot eat. Goes back to the lesson we have all learned here that "one size" does not fit all. What one of us can eat does not mean all of us can eat it.

As much as I like WWSP plan, it is too much trouble to look up info and figure the points. I've decided to be more disciplined watching portion sizes and continue using MFP. Besides it counting the calories, it also shoes the amount of sodium I am eating. With my DD having CHF, I think I should be watching that as well. I do plan to keep my calories to 1200-1300 most days and allow myself a few more on days we eat out. Now that I don't go to DD so much, we won't eat out more than 1-2 days a week.

DD is doing much better and my DS and I get the feeling he is tired of us fussing over him. We call and after a few minutes, he is ready to hang up. DH and I are going over this afternoon and I hope his Med Alert System will come today so we can activate it. Then we will give him his independence and DS and I will go back to our old routine of having breakfast with him 2 days a week and lunch with him after our hair appointment on Fridays. We both are as ready for that as he is because then we can relax and rest.

Haven't done much exercise this week although I was very active Monday. Didn't feel real good yesterday. So I need to get on that bike this morning. See ya'll here tomorrow. Ya'll have great day.

Wannabehealthy 02-01-2017 01:45 PM

p.a. Apples don't satisfy my hunger either, usually make it worse. They don't seem to stay in my stomach long enough to satisfy. DH and I split an orange daily, and/or a banana when we have them. Sometimes I eat a few frozen blueberries. I only like them frozen.

p.a. 02-02-2017 08:48 AM

Morning had my injections and dr told me he is veryyyy pleased with my progress. I don't have to go back for 2 months. Good thing cuz my reaction wasn't good, headaches and nausea. Hard to find comfort food on keto so I grabbed soup and crackers, way too many crackers which led to a free fall afterwards, why not already ate off plan right? Need to adjust my attitude. Felt so bad after. I should have planned better.
Trish I like fitday to
Carol my girls used to love frozen blueberries

pattygirl63 02-02-2017 05:40 PM

p.a. Glad the injection went well and you don't have to go back for a couple of months, sorry about the bad reactions. As for the eating off, I am sure are back in track or will be soon.

Pretty good day yesterday counting calories, but my pc is not working today, so not easy to keep count. I may have to start doing iron paper.

Have good day.
