I went to Target after dinner. The pharmacist was one who knows me well. I told her what was going on and that I wanted to refill the prescription if they had the meds on hand that I wanted. She said she would just swap them out for me, no charge, and put a note in my file that I was to get that manufacturer from here on in. That was way more than I expected, and made me very happy.

Secondhalf, when my step-children still lived here DH ate whatever I made, because he wanted his kids to learn to eat what was put in front of them. After they moved out, he decided he wasn't going to eat something he didn't like. And there's a lot more things he doesn't like than those he does. His mother was a very limited cook. They ate a lot of frozen and processed foods.

When my husband and I first got married, I asked him what kinds of things his mom cooked when he was a kid. My intention was to add some of his favorites to my roster. I'm from Louisiana and he's from the UK so my basics are not his basics. He said, fish fingers, fries, jello. His mom didn't cook either. He doesn't LOVE the things I love (not a fan of shrimp, could live without fish, tried oysters once and that was enough) but he will eat gumbo and he's a good sport about crawfish boils. I am willing to accommodate some things but if all his accommodations ruled out the easy things like crock pots and leftovers, I guess he'd revert to his mom's famous fish fingers

I'm so happy Target would work with you! I have had much better luck with Target pharmacy than with Walgreens.

Hi ladies,

Argh! Casserole update - yum for me, no no for hubby! I was surprised at how good it was since I was not sure I would like the spaghetti squash but thought it was really tasty and was glad I made a second but then went to hubby's office and saw he had eaten almost none of his. It just seems really really hard to get back on the wagon lately. He was much more cooperative before, now he is complaining all the time when I try something new or make something different than I normally do. Honestly, I feel like just giving up. I've already regained weight and the amount is increasing by the day I'm sure. Hubby is 400+ with no signs of being interested in changing. He will say he is supportive of me but really it's only as long as it doesn't affect him. I seriously just feel like why bother except that I feel so much better when I get the sugar and grains out....physically and mentally better.

I did something this week I have never ever done and please do not follow my example. I just stopped taking antibiotics before they were done and trashed them. I had a sinus infection and was put on prednisone and augmentin. I tapered up 5 days on the pred and back down for 4. I only skipped the 5th day of that. I am a huge fan of pred, being asthmatic I have been on it many times but I could tell it was blowing my BS up without even testing. I was peeing all the time and felt dizzy. Then the augmentin was making me sick. So sick that it was taking me closer to 20 days to finish it than 10. I could barely tolerate 2doses a day, definitely not 3. I was nauseated everyday and had horrific diarrhea...even with a probiotic and taking it with lots of food. I just could not endure the nausea one more day. It's been more than 24 hrs and I am still mildly nauseated, thinking tomorrow I should be better. I hated doing that bc I know it's important to finish them but I was just dying!

Got to get out tomorrow and get some things for hubby's bday. It is the 2nd and every year I forget places will be closed the 1st! I should plan further in advance but Christmas is always hectic.

Been going through my cookbooks, purging some, trying to find low carb recipes in the regular books. I have 4 make ahead/freeze cookbooks....trying to go through those. I have been doing a lot of decluttering/reorg too. I bought a used stand for my big embroidery machine from a lady in Mississippi. I have it on my desk now and it is fine there but I want to reorganize my room and decided it would be better to try to use my desk for a cutting table since it is so big. The stand is used but was considerably less than we were going to pay for a new one so we decided to jump on it when she posted it. Anyway, it will be here tomorrow or Fri so I have been thinking of how I want to reorg the room. The room is a catch all for everything sewing/crafty/office and just stuff that doesn't go elsewhere. It needs a major purge! I pulled out all the wrapping paper, cookbooks and misc Christmas stuff from there today and have been purging and relocating. I am creating a (rest of the year) wrapping center in my laundry room and the Christmas wrapping paper, food packaging (for homemade gifts), tags, etc are going up to the attic when I pack the Christmas stuff away. I moved the cookbooks to the pantry. I also reorganized the sheof that holds our board games in the coat closet. Since we now have less coats in there I am trying to maximize the space.

I would like to see Gone Girl when it comes to Redbox. I have not read it.

Carol Sue, I will be interested in hearing your impressions about DM. Also glad to hear about Target -- I prefer them for pharmacy, but there are none close to our house.

My little Maltese has not been doing well. Before Christmas he was coughing and gagging so bad. It is a trait of the Maltese. Something to do with their trachea. DH was giving him Robitussin. @@ Step-son yelled at him for that, but right before Christmas, it cleared up. I'm glad, because I didn't want him doing that with all my guests here. He was rather listless, just laying around and not eating much. He didn't even get up and bark as each person arrived. Then on Monday he started limping. A few years ago we think he had a stroke and was left with dragging his back paw a bit. You could only see that when he walked in snow. Pawprint, Pawprint, Pawprint, Streak! LOL He didn't lift his leg up very high to walk. This time I don't think he had a stroke, but he was hopping around with his one back paw in the air. DH checked it out and didn't see anything, and the doggy didn't seem to mind him touching it. Last night DH massaged his hip and leg and by bedtime he was getting around better. This morning he is walking on that foot, just about back to normal, so I am glad. We dodged another bullet with him. He is older, and we know the day is coming when he will no longer be here.

Shannon, you are NOT going to give up. I will not let you. You were doing so well and you can get back to it. Maybe you are trying too hard to be perfect. Take it easy, and just avoid some carbs when you can. It will come back. Remember that you came here because you were diagnosed with pre-diabetes and you wanted to avoid the major diagnosis. Are you no longer worried about that? Is full blown diabetes OK for you, now? You know it's not! So DH didn't like one meal. So try another. DH is also supportive of me, but what no part of the healthy eating, so I work around it. Make the carbs for him, and try to eat just the protein and veggies for me.

Secondhalf, from what I've heard, I think Louisiana has the most interesting foods! Not all healthy, but very yummy. I love lots of seafood, DH not so much. He will eat fried fish...that's it. I love any seafood, but don't really like it fried. I like baked or broiled. At the casino we go to, they sometimes have crawfish boil. I just don't know what to make of it. DH will take out a little ear of corn. LOL I have tried the little crawfish a couple times but don't really know how to open them. I also don't know if they're actually making it the way it should be, since it's not exactly in the south. I don't see a lot of people taking it.

My mother's family was from UK. I found the cooking rather bland and uninteresting. Fortunately, my mother learned to cook a wide variety of delicious foods.

I read Gone Girl a while back but got it again because I couldn't remember it. I am almost done with it, and it is still very unfamiliar to me. I like it, and want to see the movie eventually. I want to make a couple comments but don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't already read/seen it, so this is a

SPOILER ALERT!!

Scroll down

The beginning where the home invasion appears to be staged sounds familiar. Nothing else did, until Desi took her to the beachhouse and wouldn't let her leave. I remember a bit about that. But the rest of the story seems like I'm reading it for the first time. I can't believe my memory is getting THAT bad! LOL

Shannonsnail, have you tried probiotics with the Augmentin (sp?)? My daughter had to take a few times and her ped always recommends real yogurt (like YoBaby, no idea the sugar content but I would bet it's low) twice a day and probiotics. Helped TREMENDOUSLY.

It's hard to cook for someone who wants to stay in their comfort zone. It's easy to brainstorm options that will make you both happy, but it's hard to get motivated to put them in place when the other person or people don't really seem to appreciate that a. it's about your health and life and b. it's a LOT of extra work! I hope you guys can find a middle ground.

Wannabe, my memory is TERRIBLE and I read a lot of books. I tend to read them quickly so I can read them again a few years later and it's all new to me. I should keep a journal of books I read and short, quick impressions because I am forever going to the library and not being able to remember what I've read by a particular author. It's an especially big pain with series of books. If I don't read them all at one time, I can't remember what happened in the previous books!

We do have great food, and a lot of it is not super healthy but it's really, really good. I am really, really trying to psych myself up to brave the crowds and go have chargrilled oysters tonight. We shall see. My PJs may win out.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I love Maltese dogs, they are so much fun! There's one in our neighborhood right not that my daughter adores. He's so friendly and funny. We have a 15 year old dog who is starting to have health issues. It's heartbreaking.

Sorry, that took a very sad turn. ANYWAY, I googled and turns out

http://www.vetinfo.com/robitussin-for-dogs.html

Dogs can take Robitussin! Who knew!

Now, back to diabetes...my morning numbers have been a little high lately. Not HIGH, but higher than I'd like and basically the same as when I went to bed the night before. I've read about this "dawn phenomenon" thing, so there's that, but I also take HCT at night. I've read that HCT can make your blood glucose go up. I'm supposed to take it "as needed" but have been taking it just out of habit at night. I haven't really needed it lately, I don't know why I didn't think to stop taking it. I'm going to stop taking it for a few days and see what happens.

Anyone with fun plans for NYE? My NY resolution is to have something fun to do next NYE.

I find it interesting that alot of our husbands have no plans to change their diet. My husband is that way and it can be very difficult to stay on track when your partner doesn't want to change too. My DH will always suggest fast food and it is hard to resist. Or when he wants snacks in the house.

I know I am responsible for myself but he can sure make it difficult, not on purpose but still. And I wish he was more interested in fitness so maybe we could walk together or go hiking or something.

Anyways my walking plan had a bit of a kink in it. The weather turned nasty and icy outside so I didn't want to walk and end up slipping. So my plan was to workout indoors today to the Wii but when I woke up my legs were so sore and stiff I could barely get down the stairs to let the dog outside. So I decided the smart thing would be to listen to my body and take a rest day. I am fairly out of shape I shouldn't push it.

A quick flyby for now to say "I'm still here". Lot's of interesting conversation, so I'll try to get back here later. I decided to get off my cold/flu meds yesterday, so I wrapped my throat last night after applying vicks rub. This morning my nose is stuffy and my cough is worse. I read that hot water with honey and lemon will help that so I had a cup of it this morning.

No plans for NYE as we have to get up early in the morning to drive DGS to the airport. He flies out to go to FL at 8:32 am. We will have to leave around 6 am to get him there. So it will be an early bedtime for us.

Secondhalf, thank you for posting the link about the Robitussin! I will tell my husband. We had another dog before that the vet actually prescribed people meds for him and we had to go to Target Pharmacy and they registered him for a prescription discount card! LOL I didn't know they could do that!

My dog hated the Robitussen. DH put it in a dropper to squirt it into his mouth because he was not eating anything for us to put it in. He clenched his jaw closed and refused to take it, then we had to pry his jaw open to get it in. Whatever, it got rid of the cough. When we have to give him a pill, DH has to shove it down his throat with his finger because if we try to hide it in food, he eats the food and spits out the pill. He is just too smart! He still isn't eating much at all but he's been drinking his water so he should be ok. He will smell pork cooking on New Years and he will want some, but we rarely give him any people food. It doesn't agree with him. Eventually, he will get hungry enough to eat. His system probably could use a rest.

Moonkissed I don't exercise if I'm sore, or I just take a casual walk. Yesterday I was out and about and I was wearing a 2 inch heel and my feet and knees felt great. Today I have on flats and my knee is killing me. Maybe my body wants the heels. It's possible that those shoes put my foot and leg in a different position that keeps the pressure off my knee.

My husband has junk food in the house all the time. He once told me that just because I'm not eating it doesn't mean he can't. Every time I pass on the junk food it makes me stronger. I will have to eat this way for the rest of my life. There are always going to be tempting foods around. I can't avoid them everywhere. So it's best if I train myself to say NO to them. He is 72 years old. He said he is not going to eat a bunch of foods he doesn't like just so he can live another year or two. He wants to enjoy whatever is left of his life. I guess he has a point there, but I have medical problems and I want to eat healthy so they don't get worse any sooner than they have to. It's everyone's personal choice.
