Carol Sue That is sad about what happened with your family. Not many families are close these days because so many are scattered. I am so far from my family at home. I love my Daddy and my sisters, but I was never really close to my Daddy until after my Mama died. I would never hurt my Daddy the way he has hurt me over the years. I really decided at one time that maybe he wasn't even my Daddy. I was always the outsider. My Mama and I were close and I thought when she died that I would not have a family any more. I was amazed that when my DH got sick that my Daddy was the one who hung in there for us and how my then Hubby looked forward to my Daddy's visits everyday. Then when he died, my Daddy was right there. It didn't change the things he had done over the years to hurt me and screw up my life, but I have learned that a lot of it was because of his hurts in his life. As he has allowed God to heal him, he has become a real blessing to me. I so thank God for the wonderful relationship we have now. I wish we could have had it sooner, but I am just thankful we have it now.

My blood sugar is crazy this morning. I did end up with a weight loss this week down to 212.8. I will change the ticker when I'm through here. I really don't understand the blood sugar though. I did everything right yesterday and fbs was 181 this morning. I did eat a snack a little while before bedtime. Maybe I can't do that. And I'm sure I need to get back to exercising too.

Well, busy day today. DGS car is down. We are having to take it to shop to have the radiator fixed. He has an interview for a job tomorrow so we have to get it fixed. Have to go pick up meds for DH and I need to get a few groceries.

Have a great day and I'll catch you later.

Trish, my Dad died when I was 11 years old, so it was just my mother and my 2 brothers. They are all gone now. I come from a family who dies young, and I have outlived them all so far. I guess God still has a purpose for me here.

My blood sugar has been higher lately, too, but that's because I haven't been taking my meds regularly, plus eating some carbs. I made ravioli last night and I felt that I ate more meatballs than dumplings, but they were still there. Also, DH got some apples from DS's tree and wanted an apple pie. Normally, the sweets don't interest me, but he was complaining that the apples were not done enough, so I ate some of the filling to see what he meant. It was just a forkful, but with all that sugar in it, I guess it contributed to my BS spike.

My weight had been up to 198 but yesterday I was back down to 196, so still a bit above my ticker. I just can't seem to get down into the 180s.

I don't think the glimiperide is causing my itchy rash. I have only been taking 1/2 tablet if I really need it and last night my arms got really red. I had a diet coke last night, so maybe that's what's causing it. I was fine all day. I'm trying to remember what I had right before it happens. I'm just so glad it's not appearing on my face. It's mostly on my arms and some on my legs and with the weather being cooler they are kept covered. It's even on the back of my hands and they feel like sandpaper.

Keep that weight loss going! Yay!

Interesting story that showed up on AOL today.

Carol Sue Thanks for the article. I sent it to my DIL. She is really doing pretty good, but going through all the normal responses to it. She had a fbs of 111 the other day which is good. However, her after meal reading 2 hrs after a meal was high which was frustrating to her. DS said she was asking questions like "It is bad enough that I have deal with MS and Fibromyalgia and now I have to deal with diabetes? Why?" I really feel for her. So I'm trying to encourage her as much as I can. I know she can't do a lot of exercise, but I told her it doesn't have to be formal exercise but to just do what she can to move a little more. I hope it helps her.

Well, yesterday was hectic. Someone from our church called and wants to anonymously help DGS get his car fixed or help get him another car. It has been decided that since the man who sold it to him had had a new motor put in it and had the transmission rebuilt that if this other place can fix it for even half of what Pep Boys wanted for fixing it that it would be wise to have it fixed and keep the car. We are waiting for the man to call with the cost now. Hopefully it will be fixed by the weekend, but until then we are getting him to and from school. Although he has an interview today to work at a pizza place, I don't think they will start him until next week because he has to be trained 1st as to how to make pizza.

We ate at McDs yesterday at the Walmart. And I just got a salad with grilled chicken and Ranch drsg. DSIL had told me about taking a turkey patty and putting garlic etc (can't remember all he puts on his) and cooking it and eating it with romaine salad. I made mine with seasonings rather than actual veggies and made some brussel sprouts with butter and mixed it all together when the meat was done. It was okay, but not great. But it was legal. He only eats 10 g of carbs and 600 calories a day. I'm not willing to go that low. I went on MFP and reset my goals with my carbs at 35 g and protein around 88 g and the fat set at 101 g although I don't plan for the fat to necessarily be that high. That is with a maximum calories at 1400 although I'm not too concerned with that either. I'm mostly counting the carbs. I read somewhere 30 to 50 g carbs was good. Using the MFP site, I could only get it to a ratio of 35 g. Most of my carbs will be coming from veggies.

Since DSIL said he eats a salad of romaine lettuce sometimes a whole bag, I found a bag of baby spinach, kale and chard which I love all three and bag of romaine lettuce. I will eat frozen veggies at lunch time and then make me a salad of greens/romaine lettuce and a few cherry or grape tomatoes with ACV and EVOO. The fat should keep me satisfied so I won't be hungry at night. I've got almost a week behind me of eating mostly protein w/o veggies, so it should be easy to ease into my new low carb woe and I've eased into a LCHF style of eating.

Shannon I hope things are working out for the machine. Hope to see you back here soon.

I still haven't received the Glucocil. Don't really know what has happened. I got an email from GNC wanting me to share with them my experience with them so I kindly let them know that I'm thinking about ordering from the company that makes the products since I haven't heard from them since they told me they were sending it within 2 days and they would email me when it was shipped.

My weight was still 212.8 this morning YAY!!! Good sign. And my FBS was 153 which was also a good sign since it was 181 yesterday. So I think I'm doing something good. If my calories are under 1200 on MFP, I won't be able to use MFP because they won't calculate it. They end up fussing at me In red telling me I'm not eating enough. So I will do the carbs on my own.

DIL had a friend on FB say that she takes 2000 mg of cinnamon 2x a day and keeps her blood glucose normal because she couldn't handle the side effects of the medications. I tried cinnamon at one time, but it didn't help me. An RN at my church told me about it, but I never knew how much to take. So I'm thinking about getting cinnamon the next time I go to the store and see if taking the amount she took will help me.

Well, I guess I've made up for my time away on my trip. I have been very wordy today.

Y'all have a nice day.

Wannabehealthy 10-28-2014 02:33 PM

Trish, that's nice that someone wants to help DGS. Church people are good people.

You seem to be doing good! I had my eggs for breakfast with some sauteed mushrooms, and for lunch I had cabbage, shredded carrots, onion and chopped baby kale all cooked together. It was so good. I love stuff like that, and will the light green, dark green and orange flecks, it was pretty. Now I am cooking roasted chicken for dinner, and I'm going to try this recipe I found for braised turnips and carrots. I also got some parsnips and will add them to it, too. I just want to get some different veggies into my diet, even though I know they are more starchy veggies than we are supposed to eat. That one book I read about diabetes said that the nutrients and fiber in the vegetables are more important than the carbs they contain. I try to keep that in mind as I love to eat as many different vegetables as I can each day. I really doubt that DH will eat these veggies. I will cook some corn for him. Corn, peas and green beans! That's his limit. LOL

Blood sugar is still up and weight is the same. One more pound til I'm back to my ticker. I do not have any redness so far today. I ate some peanut butter and that didn't do anything. I am going to try a diet coke later and see what happens. I will be upset if it's the diet coke. That's one of my treats I allow myself. But if I've developed an allergy to it, it has to go!

dgramie 10-28-2014 03:13 PM

I found some nice dish towels at kohls sat so I'm working on them.
We had a good weekend away. I planned to eat off my diet on sat but didn't go crazy! Sunday it felt do good to get home. I love spending a night in a hotel but always love coming home. I enjoyed my grandsons age 4 and 9 months.

Fbs is ranging for 80-109. Blood sugars later in the day is always below 100. Hubby's has been up a bit and I'm sure it's due to his diet. He is eating to many carbs.

pattygirl63 10-28-2014 03:25 PM

Sounds good Carol Sue. I actually will end up with only 10 net carbs, and a little more fat than protein. The greens with their fiber really do help. I did read where a one lady on another lowcarb site said that she did better when her fat ration was less than the protein ratio although others on the site who do Atkins said the opposite. They pointed out that everyone's system is different. So I will be carefully watching to see if this ratio works for me and if not, I will try it the other way around.

I had 2 boiled eggs, not hard but not 3 minute either, 1/4 of an avocado, and bacon. I really enjoyed it. I had a steak with broccoli florets and grape tomatoes and a touch of steak sauce just for flavor. Tonight I will have 2 boiled eggs with the baby kale, greens and romaine lettuce which I will add 2 T of EVOO and 1 T of ACV. I am hoping that I will not need a snack.

We can do this girl. :)

Hi Dgramie. Kohls always had some good sales.

It seems to me that men have a harder time following a good diabetic diet than women. I don't know what would happen if DH ever became diabetic because he lives on carbs.

Trish, my vegetables turn out excellent, and even DH ate some, which really surprised me. I am going to post the recipe up above on diabetic recipes.

I sliced some onion and cut baby carrots into 3's making bite size pieces. Sauteed them in 2 T olive oil. Then I peeled and cubed 2 parsnips and about 5 small turnips. Added them to the pan after a few minutes. The seasoning was salt, cumin, and cayenne, then I added 1 cup of chicken broth. Bring to boil, then simmer with a lid until veggies are tender. When done, add black pepper and dried cilantro. I also added some dried parsley flakes, because I add parsley to almost everything. After I tasted it, it seemed to need more flavor, so I added more cumin. Just a touch. I have added this recipe to my file and will make it again. It's a way to use different vegetables that you don't often use, and it cooks by itself while you're doing something else. The recipe also called for 2 T tomato paste, but I omitted that because I didn't want a tomato taste. Also, the recipe only called for carrots and turnips, but I added the parsnips on my own. It just added a different flavor to the mix.

Last night after dinner I drank a diet coke. I got a little bit of redness, but not as much as before, so it's inconclusive. Today, I will try not to have any diet coke and see if I get any redness.

pattygirl63 10-29-2014 12:08 PM

dgrame I always enjoy staying out on a trip, but I guess the old saying "there is no place like home" is really true. I'm always glad to get back home.

Carol Sue The veggie recipe sounds good although I've never had parsnips. Wasn't a popular thing in TX so never had them. May have to try them sometime.

I called GNC this morning since I haven't heard from them and the replacement is on Back order. So I'll get them when I get them. I ran by Walmart after I took DGS to school this morning and got the cinnamon capsules and took 2000 mg with breakfast. I'll take the other 2000 mg with dinner tonight and hope it will help me until I get the Glucocil. I'm not surprised they are on back order since I saw an article about them on Yahoo.com last night. I guess I could switch to the company and put them on auto order, or I may just go to one of my local GNC stores and ask them to order them for me so I don't run out of them and have to wait for a back order to come in. I'm just glad another order hasn't been lost and this will give me time to see how the cinnamon works for me.

My weight was up a tad, but that maybe because I weighed earlier this morning. My fbs was back down to 134 this morning. so that is excellent. I had the greens/romaine salad with 2 boiled eggs and the ACV/EVOO and I have to say I hated it. I did eat most of it and obviously the salad and the oil/vinegar worked very well for my fbs. I will use some sort of meat next time in the salad. I'll save my eggs for breakfast. I had 2 scrambled eggs with a little bit of greens, turkey sausage and avocado this morning. I have a chicken thigh planned for lunch with some sort of veggie. We seem to be stuck on broccoli which is healthy so no problem. I'll have the romaine/greens salad tonight with crumbled fish fillet of some sort in it. I add enough EVOO to make the fat I need in the diet.

Haven't heard anything on DGS car repair yet. Hope to hear that today and hope it will be reasonable. Don't know if we will make Bible study tonight or not. We start a new 4 week series tonight which I'm not sure I'm interested in. It depends on how things go with DGS and whether he can get a ride home. His Bible study meeting is at someone's house at 6 and is over when ours starts at 7 at church. If we have to pick him up when his is over, we will miss ours.

Have a good day Everybody.

I wondered about the diet drink. I drink them very rarely now because I sometimes have a reaction to the citric acid in them. Sorry since you enjoy them so much. But we have to do what we have to do.:(

This morning I was sitting in my recliner, still in my nightgown. DH walked past and said "What happened to your legs?" I wondered, What now? He said "The Psoriasis is gone." I agree that my legs seem to be clearing up. I still have it on my back, my arms have a few red splotches, but the backs of my hands are still red and very rough. I have been putting different creams on them but there's not much improvement. If you run your fingers across it, it feels like sandpaper. I have never had great skin. I'm just glad that none of this has ever been on my face, and I probably should knock on wood.

We are going out to eat for dinner today. I think I will either get a Grilled Chicken Salad or the Salad Bar. I haven't had a salad for a long time.

pattygirl63 10-29-2014 05:24 PM

Carol Sue I do love a salad bar if they have good stuff on it especially protein which some do. Maybe your cream and your diet is causing the psoriasis to slowly go away. Hope so. I've heard there are loads of benefits to lowcarbing... maybe that is one of them.

I realized today that my lowcarb woe is actually AI. I didn't intend to do it, but it has turned out to be that way. And I am feeling it today. You know how the 1st week or so you feel wiped out until your body adjusts? Well, I am absolutely wiped out today. I've done my wash etc that I have to do, but it has really been a struggle. However, I'm in the groove of it so I may as well roll with it since I'm actually used to it now. Go figure, who would have thought since I fought it for so long. I checked my bs a little while before lunch and it was 130. So maybe the cinnamon is working.

DGS car is fixed. It cost $434. He is supposed to get a check by the end of the week so DH and I decided to take the money out of what we put back for our property tax and let him pay us back when he gets that check. I did all and left a message for the people who wanted to help him since I couldn't talk to them. They may still decide to help him, but they don't really have to. I am just so thankful that someone was willing to help him.

AI? Artificial Intelligence? Help!

All is well here - holding the line on HA1C at 5.6 but weight is creeping up again. Low carb DOES work for me but I bounce right back as soon as I get bored and add carbs. Right now the Halloween red liquorice is staring at me but I'll cover it with a towel and try to be strong. I did NOT get chips or cheesies or Smarties but ...

Wannabehealthy 10-29-2014 07:04 PM

 Raising my hand! I know! I know!

http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02012...lammatory-diet

Right?

Trish, my carbs and blood sugar have both been very poor the past couple days. Maybe THAT'S what's making my Psoriasis go into remission! Wouldn't that be a hoot!!

I did get the salad bar for dinner. The only protein it had was pickled eggs in the beets. I also had a cup of chili.....with beans. Then the regular salad stuff, mostly spinach with a little iceberg lettuce.

Good to see you Ruth! You are keeping the A1c in line and that's more important that the weight, in my opinion. You will get it back down. We all fluctuate.

Hi ladies,
Super busy this week. My new machine was dropped off Saturday for repair and will be gone two to three weeks I imagine. Me and my old machine made this cute towel today :-) I'm feeling a little less upset about how the sell went and a little more excited about learning more on my machine when she is done being repaired.

Diet has been awful. I had 5 days on plan til last Wednesday, it's been downhill since then. Sugar and grains definitely increase my heartburn/reflux. Isn't it funny that you never hear to avoid those?

The MIL's house is almost done. The cleaner comes this week and it will be ready for market. The project went way over budget and my family is having to pay for everything over what the SIL agreed to pay. Hoping she is fair and returns the money to us after the sell but not holding my breath. She has been very difficult over the last couple weeks as this project has been winding down. Unfortunately, because of having to pay for the overage we now cannot move forward with our plans in our house for my husband's office or my sewing room. So, the irony of it all....we have upgraded our old house and upgraded the MIL's but now can't afford to upgrade where we actually live. LOL! That's life, isn't it?!
