Good Morning! I had my first real "low" last night. I had made chicken soup yesterday and ate some as an early dinner. I decided to have some more a little later when it was time to take my Metformin. I checked my BS to see if the noodles had raised my BS. It was in the 140's, so I decided to take 1/2 a Glimiperide since I was going to be eating more noodles. Then I went into the bedroom to watch TV. I felt fine. When DH came in to go to bed I got up to take my bedtime meds and get ready for bed. I decided to check BS again to see if I needed to take the other half of the Glimiperide. My BS was 43. It was then, after I got up and was walking around that I started to feel shaky and my heart started pounding. DH keeps hard candy in the house so I took one of them right away and ate a small piece of cake. DH sat out here with me until I started to feel better. It was a terrible feeling, and it's scary to me that I didn't feel it while I was lying down in bed. It took about 15 min until I started to feel better. Checked again, and BS was at 90, so I went to bed. I was at 143 this morning, but I didn't care at this point. I will never again take that med when I'm in the 140's. I know from eating pasta and lasagne that pasta only raises my BS a little bit, compared to bread products, which give me a real spike. I know it is supposed to be taken before you eat a carby meal to keep your BS from going high, but I will wait until I really see that higher reading before I take it! That was a terrible feeling, that I never want to feel again!

So Shannon, how did you OP day go yesterday? I hope you did well. You will feel so much better.

I wonder where Dgramie has been? She wasn't feeling well there for a while. I hope she's OK.

Shannonsnail 10-17-2014 09:18 AM

Oh my gosh Carol Sue that is scary!! I do not like the sounds of that at all!

Finally had a full day back on plan complete with moodiness, fatigue and carb flu symptoms! Now if I can just press through a couple more days til those subside.

dgramie 10-17-2014 09:25 AM

I am fine just busy. My kids I keep have been wild and I haven't been on much. I am still not over the crud even with 2 rounds of steriods and antibotics. I think it's allergies.
My fbs is running 85-100. Later in the day is about 100. Hubbys has been running higher but he has been eating to many carbs.
I am getting in about 20 min on the gazelle daily.
We worked in the yard and got it ready for winter. I am not ready but our yard is. Lol
I have been crocheting making hanging dish towels. Well just the topper is crocheted. I plan on giving them as Christmas gifts.

Wannabehealthy 10-17-2014 09:39 AM

Dgramie, I'm glad to hear from you and that you are OK, with the exception of the lingering crud. LOL That can be a pain. I think a lot of my congestion issues are allergies, too.

I haven't crocheted for such a long time. Maybe I will get back to it over the winter. I have an afghan that is part done and another one I want to make, but won't start the new one til the old one is finished. I got away from it because we had a dog who used to jump up onto my lap without warning and that's not too good when you're working on an afghan. LOL He has passed away, and our current dog doesn't do that.

Way to go, Shannon! Get through the first few days and you'll be on your way!

Shannonsnail 10-17-2014 10:47 AM

Ok, so ya'll the magazine just sent me over a .pdf of the article. LOL! Let this be a lesson to all that what you read in magazines may or may not be the words the person spoke, or typed in my case. Basically the premise of the article is promotion of exercise. In my interview I repeatedly clarified that while I believed exercise was important I was not doing any and would not start until I was much closer to my goal weight bc I believed dietary changes were more important. I also repeatedly said that decreasing carbs was how I had lost weight. The article would lead you to believe that exercise was much more key to my loss. Well, we all know that is not true so lesson, take what you read in magazines with a grain of salt!

Shannonsnail 10-17-2014 04:33 PM

And, as promised, here is a link to my blog post with pics of the things I sewed last weekend. Additionally I made a laminated changing pad and a burp cloth for my SIL for her shower next weekend but I'm planning to make a few more things to go with those between now and then so I'll post another blog with everything together when it's done.

Shannon, those things you made are beautiful! You are so talented! I can see how this could turn out to be an at-home business for you.

My BS is back under control after my low reading, but now I'm afraid to take the glimiperide. I ate the buffet at the casino but I don't worry about that because I do not eat any carbs. When we came home, I ate a half of a hot sausage sandwich with a big fluffy bun. I was just in the mood for it. It was delicious, and I did take 1/2 of a glimiperide because I knew the bun would spike my BS. This morning BS was 131. I will only take my Metformin because I know my breakfast will not have carbs. I do not want to go through another scary low.

Shannonsnail 10-19-2014 12:35 AM

Thank you Carol Sue!

We traveled out of town today and bought my 10 needle embroidery machine. She weighs almost 100 lbs so getting her into the truck and then from the truck into the house was fun, lol! I have her in my sewing room on my heavy desk until we decide if we will buy a stand that the manufacturer designs for these or wait and build a cabinet for her. It took me over an hour but I have 6 of the 10 needles threaded and the thread colors assigned in the computer. I cannot believe it took that long. I'm hoping to test her out tomorrow but we have a busy day so we'll see. My brother is being ordained in the morning so we are going to his church service for that and then we have to get all our compost out to the street. I bagged 13 bags of leaves this week. It's starting to look better in that tree line but I still have a million bags to go, lol! My husband is traveling to Vermont next week for work so gotta get ready for that as well. It's after midnight, better get some sleep!!

Wannabehealthy 10-19-2014 06:53 AM

Well, I can't wait to see some of your embroidered work!

Congratulations to your brother. I don't know if that's the correct word to use in this instance.

Now Trish is MIA. Hmmmmm.....

Nothing is new with me. I am planning on getting my bloodwork done tomorrow morning, so I have to be really OP today so my FBS isn't high. Then I have to call the doctor and reschedule my appointment.

I saw an advertisement on TV for this website.

http://www.fit2me.com/

It's a Diabetes Plan that you customize to your own likes and needs. It's supposed to be free. I haven't signed up or looked into it yet.

EDIT: Here is the story about fit2me. Note that it is sponsored by a drug company, and take that into consideration. Also, I noticed on the sign-up page there was a place to enter a promo code. Why do you need a promo code for something that's free? I wonder. Anyway, it says in this story that the promo code in "news."

pattygirl63 10-20-2014 10:31 AM

Sorry I've been MIA. I just haven't been doing good at anything except eating way too many carbs. I get to a certain point and my body rebels. I had a rash so bad on the upper part of my left leg so that I was miserable yesterday when I got home from church. So I am going back on low carb. I haven't gotten the Glucocil yet. Hopefully it will make it here today. I love DH DS who works for the post office, but even he tells his Dad how lazy some people are who work there. Any way these places like Fedx, Amazon and others have worked out some sort of deal with the post office and they are delivering my pills. I always get them a day later than what they say when the PO is involved. I will have to remember that next time I order or may have to start ordering from the company instead of GNC. I really hate ordering from the company on auto because I get a discount at GNC and cost is about ten dollars less.

Any way, I'm back OP. Oh, I did learn one thing. When I was coming down with the rash, my FBS was 175. I do not think that I could live with my bs that high because I would be miserable. So maybe this time was a blessing in disguise. I most certainly will low carb because there is nothing worth having that causes that kind of problem. I have pretty much decided that I am not going to worry about calories right now, I'm just going to count the carbs.

Carol Sue When will you know about your A1c?

Shannon As much as I love using a serger (sp), I don't think I would ever get the needles threaded correctly. I know you are going to have fun with it and I look forward to seeing the things you do with it.

Y'all have a good day.

I'm off hopefully to a successful Day 1.

pattygirl63 10-20-2014 04:12 PM

Well so far so good today. I am allowing myself 70 carbs a day and counting them on my own. DH found some of my WW material and I took the daily pts sheets and blacked out Flex Plan title and wrote Low carb. So I'm clocking my carbs only. No calorie counting. Since this is my own plan, I'm allowing myself 70 carbs, but keeping them lower.

For breakfast I had 2 sl bacon, 2 eggs, collard greens and a sl American cheese and coffee with 1 t CO and Stevia for 6 carbs.

I made a chuck roast with little potatoes and small carrots. I made gravy for because DH likes it. I really did want the gravy on the multigrain bread, but I didn't eat it. I opted for 3 of the small new red potatoes with 1 carb sour cream and 1.8 oz carrots. I like a treat at the end of lunch so I had a cup of coffee with a little tub serving of Coffee Mate French Vanilla cream for 3 g carbs. With breakfast and roast lunch, I've had 23 carbs so far for the day.

I plan to have flounder, low carb veggies for supper. Haven't figured the carbs on that yet. I also have some sliced sandwich meat if I need it for a snack.

dgramie 10-20-2014 04:20 PM

I had a planned off diet day on sat. I didn't go crazy or anything. Yesterday was right back on plan. Today I am eating extra lite because we have a meal at church and I have no idea what we are having.
I got brave and tried on some pants that didn't fit in the spring. Guess what. They fit !!! My measurements are down 2" in hips, 2" waist and 1" bust. Woohoo
Blood sugars are a bit higher about 10 points up

pattygirl63 10-20-2014 07:06 PM

I thought I would share this article I found on yahoo. More benefits they are learning about low carb eating.

http://www.examiner.com/article/low-...id-weight-loss

dgrame :cheer: Congratulations on wearing the pants and inches gone. Good for you getting right back OP after a planned off day. I saw where you made the crocheted hanging towels. I used to make those and I could make those for Christmas gifts and keep my hands busy so I don't snack. Thanks for sharing.

Ended up not eating the veggies at supper. The okra pods were old and tough and I wasn't in the mood for the other veggies. I will end up with around 25 carbs for today. Finally 1 good day behind me,

Still didn't get my Glucocil. Postman delivered it somewhere else. So don't know where we go from here. The Post office supposed to be looking for it and said they would call me back today, but she didn't. I just hope they find it. I will be paying extra to get it here by Fedex or UPS from now on. When I tracked it today on-line, it showed it was delivered Sat at 2:22pm. I had to call Fedex to get the # I needed to have the PO track it on their end and she said it was delivered at 3:45 pm Sat. So I don't know if they delivered it to the wrong house or it is sitting in the truck or what. I really don't care as long as I get the package. I've had them say a package was delivered the day before it was delivered before. So I'm hoping that is what is going on this time.

Catch y'all tomorrow.

Wannabehealthy 10-20-2014 11:55 PM

Way to go Dgramie! Good job on fitting into those pants and losing those inches!

Trish, it always comes back to the carbs. I also go through times when I think I can eat them and they always come back to bite me. We just can't do it and keep our blood sugar down. I try doing very small portions but they slowly get to be more and more.

I still haven't done my blood work. I changed my doctor's appointment until Nov 6 so I have a couple more days before I have to get the labs done. I haven't been feeling good the past couple days. Can't put my finger on what's wrong. For one thing, I've had a red itchy rash over most of my body, mainly on my arms. My skin is totally dry. I don't know what it's from. It's different from my psoriasis. I've been putting Benedryl cream on it and also taking Benedryl before bed. At least I can sleep without all the itchiness, but if I take it during the day it makes me all groggy. I've been trying to figure out if I've been eating something different that could be causing this. The only thing I can think of is my coffee creamer. Then I was thinking it was the new bottle of moisturizer I bought. Same product, just a new bottle, but this itchiness is also on my back and I don't put that lotion on my back because I can't reach it. So I don't think it's that. I don't usually get a rash in relationship to carbs like you do, Trish, so I doubt if that's the cause.

Also I've been having pain in my right ear. I usually lay on my left side, but today I took a nap and laid on my right side and my ear really hurt when I got up and I could hear this popping sound like there is congestion in there.

I have not been eating all the vegetables like I was before, so that could be why I don't feel well, also. If I still feel poorly by the 6th I will mention all this to my doctor. Last time my A1c was 6.4. I don't expect it to be that low this time because I haven't been eating as healthy, and also because I was sick with that cold. Being sick causes inflammation, and we know that's not good for our bodies.

I did walk on my treadmill for 30 minutes today while watching The Young and the Restless. Gotta have my soaps! LOL

pattygirl63 10-21-2014 09:57 AM

Well, I need someone to just :kickbutt: me. One day back OP LCHF and my weight is back down to 216.4, fbs 126 and rash is almost completely gone. Why oh why do I keep doing this to myself. Even though I had small amount about 1/2 serving of the small potatoes and carrots, I still only had 25 net carbs for the day. And this improvement is without the Glucocil.

Carol Sue I know I could have a small amount of starchy carbs once in a while, but I too end up eating a little more and a little more thinking I can have a little more. I think I need to keep it low most of the time and then have the limited 70 to 75 g for when I eat more, but not to make it a habit.

Hope you find out what your rash is. I have to say that when I had the rash on my leg this time, I also had it under one breast and I did experience some itching this time from my skin being extra dry and I think from it being so cold here. We are having some really cold evenings and mornings right now. I've never experienced itching from being cold before.

Well, I haven't made out my plan yet today. I'm trying to come at this way of eating looking at the things I love to eat that you cannot have on regular lf diabetic diets. I do love eating bacon, so bacon and eggs are going to be on my daily breakfast menu. I will add cheese and some form of greens and or avocado for variation. I love chicken dark meat and wings and pork chops and ribs and steak. I have found some fish that I like that I can purchase. DH likes cod, but I also like catfish, flounder and wish I could find perch, but never see it in the store any more. I don't like a lot of veggies that I can have except I do love greens which kale and collards are my favorites right now and we eat a lot of broccoli. I actually didn't have any veggies last night because the okra pods were too old and I didn't want to cook anything else and I only had a serving of Hormel smoked deli ham and a cheese stick for a snack. I've decided that is not a bad thing because there are people who only eat protein and fat for a diet. So if I only eat my veggies at breakfast and lunch and make the other 2 into protein snacks without veggies, it should work. I do like smoked oysters and used to like sardines, but haven't been brave enough to try them since I can't eat them on crackers any more.

Well, Carol Sue looks like you and I are going to find the stamina or whatever to eat less carbs. No tricks, just do it. We've done it before and by the grace of God we can do it again.

 Everyone.

I'm shooting for a clean OP Day #2.

Catch y'all later.
