Kris...what it is about that dang pizza driving FBS up like that? A week ago Friday mine was 201....after having had homemade pizza the night before. It hasnt been over 100 since....not even during the day.
Good Luck |
Restless - I haven't had many processed carbs since diagnosed 2 months ago. Pizza and some pumpernickel bread. Won't be doing that pizza again! That was scary. The pumpernickel bread raised my FBS a bit but I had had 4 slices the night before - two sandwiches. I think if I stuck to 1 or 2 slices, I could have it once in a while. I know pasta raises mine because I always want to take a nap afterward - I won't be eating that anymore. I haven't tried brown rice or oatmeal yet.
I'm more concerned with fitting fruit into my diet than grainy carbs - more nutrients and it's nice to have some sweetness. |

To this day I avoid all bread and pasta as a rule. Yes I slip now and then but very seldom. Either of those send my sugars thru the roof in a flash. Without them Ive gotten my A1C reduced to 5 from 7.2. I take insulin because according to my reactions the oral meds about kill me. I hope in time to get rid of both. My blood pressures and everything else is great and always has been...thankfully. I do eat a LOT of fruits and vegies. Summer time is mine....I love all the fresh vegies and fruits as they become available. Id give up every other food I enjoy for my fruits and vegies. I wish you much luck in your journey and if the need every occurs and you'd like to talk ...feel free to holler at me |
feeling optimistic
Hi wannabehealthy thanks for the advice and sorry for my late reply. I'm currently eating small portions and having snacks like Apple with organic peanutbutter or carrot sticks with humus. It seems to be working as I have already lost 3 lbs since starting this healthy eating. At the moment I have started doing 15 mins on the exercise bike.
Just have to keep going! |
Chellewainwright - You are doing good! The small healthy meals are the way to go! Gradually increase your exercise time and you won't get sore or burned out.
Restless, I think pizza is bad because of the crust. Maybe one of those thin crunchy crusts would be OK. Kris, I had lasagne last week and it didn't spike me too bad, but I ate a lot of veggies with it. I am not real big on fruit. I eat some, but for me it's mostly vegetables. |
Happy Mother's Day to ALL of the MOMS here
Carol Sue, Trish and Shannon, my A1c results = 6.4 .... much much better than my 10.5 ... I'm happy. |

It has been a really long tiring weekend and I have been 100% OFF plan for several days on end. I need a restart tomorrow. Happy Mother's Day and sweet dreams! |

Sweet Dreams to you also. How is Olivia? |
Yay Rennie!! I was SURE you were going to get good results with the changes you had made. I hope my results are similar. Not til the end of June, though. I think I am going to make sure to schedule each A1c in advance. I think I pay $25 out of pocket. Knowing that I have to get bloodwork keeps me in line. I did however really screw up big time yesterday, and the food wasn't that good. I am definately going to have to follow a different path for Father's Day. The corn salsa was wonderful, but I entered the ingredients in Fitday this morning and it's high in carbs, even though it has the fiber from the beans. Plus it's eaten with tortilla chips. My biggest problem was I ate two SloppyJoe sandwiches, with buns and some pasta salad. I made it with canned sloppy joe sauce and I will never buy that again. It's just not worth it. It contains high fructose corn syrup. I never read the can before. I took a glimiperide because I knew I was going to eat carbs, but it did not matter. I was full, so I didn't eat dinner, but in the evening my BS was 317. I am so angry with myself. Why did I think I could do that? That is going to really effect my A1c. I will have to stay perfect for the next 2 months to counteract that. I made scrambled egg beaters and took my evening glimiperide and this morning was back to 111. I think I'm going to take a picture of my meter showing the 317 and post it on the refrigerator. 317! Geez!
And I'm back to 195, to boot. Will somebody give me a nice hard smack in the head? LOL Shannon, it seems we all need to restart today! |
For the first time since starting I have a gain this week for my weekly weigh in. It's actually only 0.6 from last week but it's almost 3 lbs from my lowest weight during the week. Oh well....that's what happens when you eat like a crazy person I guess, lol. Hoping for a good restart and on plan week to counteract the past week's "carbicide". Fortunately there are no more celebrations for 8 days so maybe I can do it! I need to plan my meals for the week and get my grocery list together but first, breakfast!
Rennie she is improving but still congested. I have the crud too but it hasn't progressed enough for me to go to the dr, i'm watching it closely though. |
Congrats Rennie on the low A1C!
FBS 106 this morning but not unexpected as I ate few carbs and not many calories yesterday and exercised. When you get in that low-carb zone, you really aren't hungry. Love that - |
Rennie Great bloodwork results. :carrot: You are doing great!!!
Carol Sue I also need a swift kick myself. I bought fried chicken at Walmart for our brunch yesterday because I didn't want to come home and cook eggs. I did eat a salad and broccoli with it and had a salad with a small can of salmon added to it for dinner and used ACV and EVOO in the salads both time and no fat added to broccoli, but then I had a small bag of chips for a snack later. So my weight is up 2 lbs and my fbs was 139 which none of that should be a real surprise. I am back on plan today. I've been reading a ladies journal which she started in 2004 on a lowcarb site. She has been doing a modified version of SBD/Atkins I think she calls it. I figure someone who has been successful for that long, I can learn from. I can't just switch to SBD right now as I have a lot of cheese with full fat etc and I don't really like going fat free on most stuff any way. However, I'm not sure you have to which is probably the reason for the combo as a guide. The big thing I notice about her plan is that she doesn't eat a lot of food at one time. She may have celery with pb for a snack, or she has grilled fish and veggies that she cooks on her indoor grill because she lives in NYC. She seems to eat 5 small meals that are more like snacks and most of the time the meals look more like snacks. Which leads me to believe that I just plain eat too much food. Another thing I noticed is that she eats lots of fish. However, unlike the fish man's thread here on 3fc, she eats really nice fish fillets and sushi etc. I could eat the fish fillets but I have no desire to eat sushi or any other kind of raw fish. DH DD loves that stuff, but not me. I've tried some things she likes, but the thought of me eating raw fish makes me gag. LOL Just me. This lady also uses her fish fillets cut up into stir-fry as well. While I don't really want to eat fish totally, I do know that it is good for me so I think I'm going to start trying to have some sort of fish at one meal everyday. Both Atkins and SBD allows EVOO so I can use that as my oil for the stir fry. I think I will do this until I take my trip and during the trip, I will just do the best that I can. When I come home, I will switch to SBD only because I can learn how to eventually re-introduce some of the other foods like beans. Oh, one of her hard fast rules is absolutely no white flour or sugar. I haven't read far enough in to see what all she does add back into her plan, but then I'm just starting this and not really ready for that part of it any way. Shannon I saw that Olivia is feeling a little better. Hope the sniffles will be gone soon too. Chellewainwright, Kris, Restless, Ruthie and Lurkers  Edited to say: Accoroding to the ticker I'm only up 1.4 lbs, but the sad thing is that Saturday morning, I was down to 222.4. So close to being able to changing to a new low. Oh well, drink lots of water, water, water today. |
Trish, be careful about eating fish every day. You have to worry about mercury poisoning. Research the type of fish you are going to buy and see how much mercury it has. I could eat it every day, too.
I am getting ready to put on a turkey breast for dinner. I'm going to cook it in my Halogen Infared Cooker. I've done chicken, but this is the first time for turkey. Supposed to be done in 1 hour and it doesn't heat up the kitchen. Kris, good for you staying on plan and exercising yesterday. 106 is GREAT! |
Carol Sue Thanks. I have Pacific Cod which is supposed to be better. Although I probably could eat fish everyday, I probably won't because I don't want to get like I did with tuna. Sometimes I can't stand the smell of can tuna or can salmon because it smells too fishy. So I will eat chicken some too. I will also eat other protein. This woman I read about didn't eat eggs or other meats. I would rather keep my eggs in the morning and to keep a variety of protein as well.
I have had a very good day. I wasn't going to keep up with things on MFP but got curious. If I eat the way I am now, I won't eat more than 1300 calories a day and while my carbs won't be 20 grams, they won't be over 60 grams either which is pretty good. My DIL is riding with my DS on 2 week out this time, so I didn't expect to hear from him. However, they called me and talked to me just as I was getting ready to ride my recumbent bike. I usually do 3 miles in about 26 minutes. I got busy talking to them and the next thing I knew, I had done a little over 4 miles in 36 minutes. That is really good and if I can continue to do that 5 days each week before our trip I would be very happy as my exercise will be kind of limited for the 2 weeks we are out. So my week has started good this week. I hope that when I get in the habit of eating this way that I won't have to keep counting calories. That's one big plus with SBD for me to switch to when we get back home. |
Carol Sue I got a Vegetti today and made zucchini tonight, sauteed in coconut oil....yum!
