Welcome Silentarctic. We are glad to have you here. Our little family is growing.
Trish, I eat corn, peas and carrots. Mostly I eat them when I have mixed vegetables. I eat fresh carrots when I have carrots and brussels sprouts. For some reason, I love that combination. I realize they are considered higher carb, but I eat all vegetables. When I read that book by Joel Fuhrman he said the fiber and nutrients in those vegetables far outweigh the higher calorie/carb count. I eat beets, too, but not very often. This might be what is keeping me from losing faster, but it doesn't seem to be effecting my blood sugar. As I have said before, I am not on any particular low carb diet. I am on my own plan where I omit or limit the amount of starchy carbs I eat. |
Good morning! We ended up ordering Asian food last night instead of going out to the fish fry. We had a storm come up with high winds and hail. Earlier this year we had a dear friend killed by a falling tree in a similar storm so I'm a lot more cautious now when storms arise. The storm was over by the time the food came so don't worry, the poor delivery guy wasn't out in it either. Anyway, all that to say my scale is up so I'm drinking water like gangbusters today, lol!
Trying to decide what to do today. The hubby is on a hunting trip he won....expecting pheasants tonight....yuck! He doesn't normally hunt so this will be interesting. |
Tastes like chicken! LOL

Well, today was not good....I ate waaayyyy off plan lunch and dinner. We're talking bread, french fries, more bread, more potatoes, more bread.....tomorrow I sincerely look forward to 1) NOT weighing and 2) getting back on plan |
Shannon, the past couple days have been bad for me, too. They say Pride Goeth Before a Fall. I was proud of my success, but I have fallen in a big way. It's time to put my big girl pants back on (no pun intended) and resume low carb. No looking back. That's over. When I got a 190 FBG this morning I realized that is not what I want. It was the bread. It's always the bread. I can turn my back on sweets, rice, potatoes or pasta, but once I eat a slice of bread I'm a goner. I need to get that fact firmly embedded in my brain.
I hope you liked the quail. |
A quick flyby this morning. Just to say  hello. I will write more later.
I'm doing something a little different while I'm in this slump of not wanting to cook or whatever. I'm doing "my own way" of the Dr. Anderson's The Simple Diet. I'm drinking two Atkins shakes... 1 with fruit and one plain, and 2 meals a day. I make DH and my main meal each day and then have a WW Smart Ones or some other healthy tv dinner. Just started it yesterday so I'll let y'all know how it goes. My fbs was going up again too. It was 139 yesterday morning and is back down to 124 today after eating this way yesterday. Yesterday was a high carb day because we had pizza. So it was good to see that the fbs came down any way. One thing about TSD is that it requires you to eat minimum of 5 veggies and fruits. Some on the thread here on 3fc make their own tv dinners and I may do that eventually. Right now I just need the structure of right portions etc. Headed out to church so I'll BBL. |
Trish, I think it's a good idea to make your own frozen dinners. Many people cook all day Sunday, making different meals for their families, then just have to defrost them each day and heat them up. It's great for people who work, and also for those like you who get into a funk about not wanting to cook. It happens, especially when you have difficulty decided what to make. My husband won't eat something that was made ahead and frozen, even though I tell him that's what he's getting when he eats in a restaurant. They don't stop and cook a roast when he orders a pot roast sandwich. LOL
Shannon, today I am going to the library to return the 2 books I have and I'm going to get Wheat Belly. I checked online and they have it. I know I saw it at Goodwill at one time but I checked yesterday and it was gone. I know I am not going to give up wheat 100%. I will still use bread crumbs in my meatloaf and such. But I want to read it to get ideas, and reinforce my reasons for not including it in my diet on an every day basis. There's another book I requested from another library and they might have it by now. |

Selentarctic WELCOME!!! I'm sure you were shocked when you were told your blood sugar was so near being diagnosed diabetic. Congratulations on the 25 lbs you've already lost as you are already on the right track. Exercise will be a big help. I keep up with my calories on My Fitness Pal (my doctor told me about it and recommended it) and I love the fact that I can keep up with exercise there. It helped me to see that even housework could be counted as exercise. It helps has helped me to become more active. I count everything that can be counted even light housework. That goes in everyday 1st thing so I know I will do the things around my house that needs to be done. However, I still exercise using my recumbent bike at least 4 days a week for 27 minutes. I do 27 minutes because it takes me that long to ride 3 miles. When I slack on the exercise, the fbs rises a bit, but goes back down with the exercise. Good luck on your journey so you will never have to have the diagnoses.
Today we came home from church and I didn't want eggs mainly because I want to see how much I can lose doing the Simple Diet. I want to lose as much as I can before our trip to TX. Also, I want to get in the habit of eating this way so I don't go wild while on our trip. I can get large boxes of Atkins shakes at Sam's Club to take on the trip and I can also take fruit with us for snacks. I will work at having healthy low carb veggies when we stop to eat. I told DH I would make eggs for him, but I was going to eat a frozen dinner. DGS made eggs for himself (he misses not getting them on campus so a treat for him) and DH ate cereal. I always add some kind of green veggie to my frozen dinners. I had kale in last nights and cut okra in todays. I use about 1/2 banana and 1/4 c blueberries in my morning shake. I'll have an apple in a little bit with string cheese for a snack instead of a shake and have the 2nd shake tonight. The 2nd one is like saying "I'm through eating for today". My evening meal will be a tuna salad. I will do this way of eating until our trip and then when we return, I will start using 2 shakes a day and stop the store bought frozen dinners so I can do them low carb. I've actually seen examples on the New on-line Atkins sight where you can use their tv dinners and shakes legally for weight loss for those who don't like to cook or are too busy. Right now I can't afford their frozen dinners at $4 + a meal. But when I come back home, I'll be tired of eating out and be able make my own and freeze them. I really think right now this is more about getting control and learning how to travel and stay on plan. Carol Sue When I used to work shift work, I didn't have time to cook daily. We lived in the country and raised a lot of our food. So we froze all the vegetables that we grew. So I would spend one of my days off cooking up meat for the week and putting it in the freezer so that everyone could come home and take out whatever they wanted to eat and make their own meals. We liked things grilled and it made it so nice and easy to be able to grill everything at once because most of the time when you grill the fire is just getting good when your food is done. So I decided one day to just take advantage of it by cooking more. |

Gosh I haven't been on here in a few days, smh and as usual you guys are busy :D
Darcy I am in the same boat as you. I get so close to the next decade and bam my mouth opens and up goes the scale, :dizzy: Shannon your engagement will slide down soon and good job on the two inches :high: Good job on the Chik-fil-a choice :high:All of your numbers are great way to go, I'm happy for you  Carol Sue that's smart with the beans and the Miralax. I couldn't do that with the jello because my poor baby's would be pooping up a storm. Jello does last in here long, I'd have to figure out a way to hide it from them (not so easy) :) My beans went bad. I told my husband I am going to experiment with beans for two weeks to see what they do for me, he doesn't mind he loves beans but he always wants them over rice and that is a no-no for me. I haven't had any rice since December :) I love red pepper hummus and I have eaten it a few days in a row but I don't remember if it helped or not. Thanks Carol Sue you are a wealth of information  Yay on your husbands weight loss, that's great :) Bread is my pitfall. I wanted butter for some reason I think it may have been yesterday, so I ate two slices of s/f Nature's Own with butter, so good ... but that wasn't enough so I made a grilled cheese in the waffle iron (because the boys left it on the counter) and though I don't typically eat grilled cheese (I don't like the soft cheese, this one was firm and pretty good) I only ate half the two youngest both had a piece :) Trish that is my problem on this journey this go around but I'm not burping, I am gassy regardless of what I eat. I have been tired of eggs for a while. They weren't agreeing with me at all for some reason. I am needing to get that in my head, eat when I'm hungry and stop when satisfied not when full. I like the idea of fruit and yogurt in the morning :) Interested in hearing how TSD is working for you. silentartic, :welcome: to the thread. :) I complain often because if my numbers on the scale go down my fbs goes up. I have not figured this out but it is what it is so I just go with it. Hope your numbers get better so no diabetes for you  My fbs has been crazy thanks to my crazy eating. The highest it's been is 159 on the 16th and 108 on the 22nd, this morning it was 141. My weight has been going up and up also. I got so close to the next decade and blew it again. Today I tried the low end of the 5:2 diet, trying to stay under 500 calories for the day. Then tomorrow you eat higher calories. You eat high for 5 days and low for 2 days (just not consecutive on the low days). I will see how I do tomorrow. I made a shrimp, red/green pepper, onion, Shirataki zero pasta dish. Came up to 199 calories, 22 carbs and 23 protein and I was satisfied. I drank 16 ozs of water before it so that helps. I like my tuna salad also, I will have that on lettuce leaves, my kale, grapefruit, hummus and probably an Atkins shake and some beans. That is my plan. I need to put it all on MFP and see what the numbers are. I also made it to the gym for the first time in forever. It felt really good. |
Missed you Rennie!
Ya'll are inspiring me to try tuna salad again. I have not been able to even be in the room if hubby opens a can but my tastes are changing. I'll give it a shot sometime this week. I am worn out and going to bed. I spent 3 hrs mowing, trimming hedges, going around edge of yard and then made 4 batches of my homemade spaghetti meat sauce for the freezer, cut up a bag of celery and made a batch of taco salad dressing for the week. |
