April Thread
Good morning and happy Monday and new month!
I realized this morning that I've not been posting very regularly in here. I'll try to do better. I also need to read back to find out what's been happening to us all. Have been off and on and up and down the past month - saw 194 in there somewhere but am 190.4 this morning. My BGL has been running a tad high for me but I am going to get back to testing it more regularly. I seem to remember to test if after a day of "naughty" eating. How smart is that? Started Atkins twice this month but things got in the way - first a visit from a vegetarian friend and then Easter weekend - and some chocolate! However, that was then and this is now. Breakfast this morning will be a shake - almond milk, egg white, flax, chia and some sf Jello for flavour and colour. Lunch will be a sausage, pepper and mushroom thing that I usually serve in a bun. Am thinking a ground beef patty tarted up a bit with tomato and lettuce, maybe with green beans or asparagus. This week I'll figure out a LC soup since I have lots of frozen stock. On we go with a brand new slate for April. |
I'm right there with you, Ruth! April is a new month so it's a fresh start. Spring is here and everything is going to start to bloom, and we will be blooming too!
|
Hey, I with you Chickies. I am thrilled with the way my Semi-Atkins low carb eating. I ended the month of march losing not only the 3 lbs I had gained and 3 more. I am staying with it this time. In fact, I'm actually enjoying eating this way this time. I think it is because I'm being more creative with my meals. They are rather small meals most of the time and I'm not eating that much. I think that is because I use the Intuitive Eating idea of eating what I really want that is low or no carb and I stop eating when I am satisfied and I seem to be satisfied longer between meals. Another thing is that my fbs is coming down too. I've read of the benefits of coconut oil and I use it now when I cook. Not only makes the foods taste really good, but it also helps keep me from craving foods. Can't afford the organic so I just get the pure coconut oil.
Here's hoping for a great OP April. |
the weather is playing april fools with us here, alternately sunny and then snow squalls causing white outs coming from no where.
physio has been tough, lots of aches and pains with the exercises and the injury itself. Ate reasonably today. Trish, the "holy crap" cereal is most chia seeds and hemp hearts, and the dragons blend (from the fact they touted the cereal on a show called "dragons den") has dried cranberries, raisins and dried apple bits mixed in. You just use 2 tblsp in yoghurt etc. Keeping me nicely regular, but I don't want the carbs from the dried fruit much, although I add some applesauce for natural sweetness, and because the yoghurt I use is so thick. Have a good evening lovelies. |
I am here. God I can't wait to go grocery shopping tomorrow. Then the Grand kids will be here on monday they will be here a week. My aunt is doing . We are trying to get her in to see a specialist she has a appoitment on the 10 of april they have to do a EUS . We will get it done she has been having problems eating she isnt hungry. I have to make her eat. Now she is having problems being nausa and vomiting.
I will keep you all updated. Now I need to make sure I am gonna have some me time . The family has already asked if I was gonna take care of her and she asked if she gets sick please keep her granddaughter so she can spend time with her. I will see what I can do I jest dont want to be her sole care taker and the family not help out expecially her daughter. Will get back with all of you when I have a minute. |
Hi all: doing ok, havent done any bs testing in a bit, have no lancets, will score some at work today. weight is ok, especially considering all the chocolate on the weekend. Funny, my "binge" was about a 10th of what it would have been a few years ago. Still made me feel woozy though.
Will be away overnight, so not sure if I can check in tomorrow. Arm is slowly improving, from the big gains last week to small gains this week. This part is gonna be slow, correcting the problems that started all this. Bonnie: do be careful, somehow this sounds like you are supposed to be auntie's full time caregiver AND the grandchilds daycare provider. that sounds like wayyyyy too much! Glad to see you back Ruth, and hellos to everyone else. |
Mad I know right I am gonna wait and see what the biopsy says. The whole family is making excuses of why their is gonna be nothing wrong and that it is gonna be a clean biopsy. But I dont look at it like that. I see what she goes threws on a daily bases and I jest have to think that the worst isnt here yet.
Right now I am jest looking forward to spending some time with the grand kids. |
Quick flyby. Glad to see us here.
Bonnie Sure hope things turn out good for your aunt as I think that will be better for you. I think it is good to center your attention on spending good quality with your grand kids. Mad Have a good trip. Ruth, Slmn and others  Have had a really good day. Exercising more each day as well. Just waiting for the energy to click that is supposed to show up on this way of eating. Catch y'all tomorrow. |
Could use some energy too, Patty. Been dragging a lot but am pushing myself to go to the gym this morning. I absolutely MUST be in better shape for spring gardening - not that it's imminent. Cold here at 22ºF and snow in the forecast. :(
Atkins is helping the weight though - 188.6 this morning. |
Removed the ticker and weight info. We went to Costco after DH doctor's appt and I found a digital scale that reads down to .2 of a lb for just under $20 so I bought it. Got home and it showed me weighing 10 lbs more than the old scales. I was not happy with that, but don't want to put those numbers on a ticker. May be silly, but just couldn't look at it. Feel like I'm starting over all over again. Did make me mad and more determined to do something about it. The really good thing today is that my fbs was down some more.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Catch y'all tomorrow. |
Bummer on the scale change but it's just a number. You have still lost that weight. My digital scale is very accurate - dammit! I killed my ticker a while ago but will put it back soon.
Survived my first day back at the gym but it was rough. Did not survive the day on low carb though. Off plan last night with some breaded chicken, cheese and ham thingies. I was feeling a bit down for several reasons and felt I needed comfort food. There they were calling my name from the freezer. A slight upward change on the scale this morning but "we shall overcome: today! |
Yes, I had Japanese food last night and no snacks, but weight up today, I suspect because of salt. Will see how I am tomorrow. Planning a "fast" day tomorrow, because family coming for Dad's birthday supper on Saturday. Will have a full house, which I love, (at least temporarily) and lots of fun.
SHoulder is slowly improving. This is the slow part. The pain is minimal now, and I have full range of motion, but still not moving it properly, so have to retrain it, and re-strengthen it. I will be able to stay off call until a week from Monday, without financial loss. Hope to be capable after that. In the mean time, getting on the treadmill for a few minutes before I start my physio exercises this am. ttfn |
Turns out when I weighed this morning that my weight on new scale is 7lbs higher than old scale. Better than being 10. And like you say Ruthie it is true that I still lost the 6 lbs that I lost. Just upsets me that I let myself gain back all that weight.
I have added one meal a day with carbs the way it is done on the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet's Reward Meal. All other meals and snacks called CM which is similar to Atkin's meals/snack chosen from what they call Craving Reducing Foods List. Doing it that way because I'm just afraid to add any more carbs than that. I do have 4 days of exercise so far this week... riding a mile on my stationary recumbent bike and will get 2 more days on it for 6 days this week. DH and I wanted Chinese food today. Ate about 2/3 of it and ditched the rest of it. I forgot about the salt, so might should take one of my fluid pills. They are prescription that doc gave me for times like this. Fatmad Glad the arm is getting better and hope it will be back to normal soon. Just don't push it. Now I'm telling the nurse what to do. :dizzy: Bonnie Hope you are having fun with those grandbabies. Ruthie Good for getting to the gym. We are going to get this all together again and be stronger and better. We just have to hang in there. |
Trish, I am sorry that your new scale has you upset, but I can really understand. I would, however, do something to find out if that new scale is correct. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's right. Did they weigh you at the doctor? If so, compare that weight to your scales, and if not, find somewhere to get weighed so you can compare. And you are right...even if your old scale is wrong, it showed a loss, and that is your ultimate goal.
I have a balance beam scale and it is accurate. When I go to the cardiologist, they got a new digital scale with all the bells and whistles. I can tell them what I will weigh before I get on by adding 1-2 lbs from what my scale said, figuring in for clothing. I have a friend who only weighs at night because she wants to know her true weight, not her lowest weight before eating or drinking. |
CarolSue Good thought. I have a docs appt next month and can check the scale then. I do like this scale because it is encouraging to see the numbers. Even with the new scale, I have dropped 2.4 lbs this week and I'm back down under the 240 again. Barely, but at least I'm under. I told DH that where this scale is going to help me is on those days or weeks when I lose less tha a lb, I will be able to see it. It is encouraging to see any kind of loss no matter how small or great.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. |
well, I am true to ticker again, and not sure how that happened. Certainly not doing anything different, but makes me think the salty japanese food had a big effect and for several days. Had lots of family here this weekend, its my Dad's birthday tomorrow. Made a nice sugar free, flourless chocolate cake for the birthday supper. But cheated with supper and had a bit of yorkshire pudding with the roast beef.
overall doing ok this weekend. Happy Sunday friends |
Quick flyby!!!. As I said before, I'm going to like having this new scale with the way it goes to the tenths. I'm up .6 lbs today, but at least I know that it is because I ate out and I ate a lot of salty food last night. So I know it isn't a gain... it is water. It sure makes a difference.
|
Back to 190 again after a carby weekend. When you go off Atkins, the carbs sure pile the weight back on. I did go a little carb crazy over the weekend with bagels for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch and pancakes for supper - the pancakes were completely in my control as I was home then. Last night I had dinner with the "girls" and one cannot eat ham without scalloped potatoes. (This looks like a food porn thread!)
Got up late, no almond milk for a smoothie and ended up with a breakfast sandwich at the diner after gym. ** Sigh ** Twenty six carbs right there. :nono: No lunch needed so I'll have an early very low carb supper. Gym was very hard this morning. I intended to do treadmill sessions over the weekend and didn't but it was particularly hard this morning. All the more reason to get back at it. Our druggist here in town retired and I need to get to another one and get prescriptions renewed. I'm OK for diabetic meds but BP and Chol are gone. It's nearly time to book another bloodwork appointment. It sucks to get old but, when you examine the alternatives ... |
fast bs 5.5 today. Weight still true to ticker. Had to get up early for a meeting at the hospital. Home now, tired and aching.
Ruth: you are right, when you have been doing atkins, hitting the carbs can be dangerous, you suddenly feel out of control and start a carb binge, and then the pounds just go up and up. Really fast. Back to a quiet life here. Will just have leftovers for supper tonight. Have a good monday friends. |
Lovin the grand babies to death. But I painted my daughter room friday and saturday and I guess from getting up and down on the ladder my feet have been killing me now. My feet are swellen so bad they hurt like my skin is gonna pop open. My left foot is the worst and and right foot is only slightly swellen so now I am gonna have to make a trip back to the Dr again. I have to make sure their isnt nothing wrong.
I hope all is going well will talk to you all soon..... |
fbs 5.2 today. weight down a pound, so of course I have had some real cravings today. Hope to keep my self in check tonight.
Tired after physio, but got the nails done today. Had a mini crisis, youngest DD is on a brand of BCP that has been recalled, and wanted a pregnancy test. No problems, thank goodness! Having a busy week. Hope everyone can do ok. Bonnie, hope nothing is wrong and the feet feel better with some rest. |
quiet day here. Weight was mysteriously up, but was a bit constipated (sorry tmi) which resolved today, so tomorrow may be better. Had a work supper out, but appetite was low. Tomorrow is a busy day, interviewing the women we took to supper tonight, finding a person to join us in work life.
Then away for the weekend. Phew. |
I went to the Dr and he had to give me a water pill to get the fluid off my left foot it was huge. Went back this morning to have them check them and the blood pressure pill I take has the water pill added so he gave me the next step up. Then we discussed on how my feet were and I told him that the foot dr gave me some cream lotion to put on my feet for Neurophay and that my insurance does not cover it so he has started me on a pill for that now. I have to something and get my butt in gear.
Yes I am still lovin my grand babies my grandson loves me to death already . I hope all is well I will check in as soon as I can. Oh by the way my aunt went and had to had some blood work dont that will detail her pancreas and then they had to do a MRi she goes in on tuesday and have the biopsy done. Will let you all know how it goes... |
Madeleine I agree. It has been really quite around here these past few days. Hope that isn't a bad thing. Hope everyone is just being busy. Sounds like you are into some busy times again. Glad things seems to be coming together for you.
Bonnie Glad you ae getting help with your feet. It is so much fun to be grandma cause you can spoil the grandkids. Glad you are enjoying them. Hope all goes well for your Aunt. Ruthie and Slmn and others:wave: Hope all is well with y'all. I am pleased to say that my eating is going very well and the weight and the fbs is begining to move downward. Seem to have found to eat that works for me. |
Been very busy and stressed lately with changes at the Mill and tax deadlines and must admit I've been neglecting testing my blood. ("Hurting" myself first thing in the morning is not my favourite activity - making coffee is!)
Weight is still sort of stuck. I do fine on low carb and then some "social" event intervenes and throws me out of ketosis. Then the scale heads the wrong way. 189 this morning and am hoping to just stay in the 180s for a while. I also need to get my prescriptions re-filled. Our local pharmacist retired so I need to go to the next town now. I'll try to pop in more regularly. Still have not made my HA1C test appointment - I am avoiding the results, I think. :nono: |
Ruth, I don't test as often as I should and I also avoid going for the A1c. I keep thinking I will wait until my daily readings improve, but the A1c is going to reflect the past few months anyway, so why not just get it overwith. The last time I expected it to be really bad. It ended up being 7.7, not as bad as I expected, but bad enough that he upped my meds. This morning I woke up with a determination to quit fooling around with these BS readings and get my carbs under control. I hope I can stick to this. I have been really eating out of control lately.
I get most of my meds filled at Target and a few by mail-order. I guess things are different in Canada. Bonnie - I know you are taking care of your grandchildren and also helping your aunt with her issues, but be sure to take care of you, too! You are no good to them unless your are healthy. It's good that you are taking care of your feet...that's so important for us diabetics. I hope you can get the swelling under control. At one time I was on a blood pressure pill that made my feet/ankles swell. They switched the med to something else. It was Norvasc, I think. Mad and Trish - You seem to have your BS reading and eating well under control. That's good. You are an inspiration to me. |
Well, once again I didn't check my blood. Probably just as well as I have not been taking my bedtime meds. This morning I am setting up my nightime dosette thingie and putting it right beside my bedside lamp on top of my current reading. Funny but I always remember to fill my water glass at night and seldom forget the morning meds.
Weight is back up to 190.6 this morning although I did stick to low carb yesterday. I suspect it was the salt in the fajita seasoning I used. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I'm planning a BLT without the bread for lunch today and have shrimp thawing for some sort of veggie stir-fry tonight. (I'll need to watch the darned soy sauce.) |
we are having a treat tonight with a gourmet lasagna made by a local shoppe. Will see a movie and maybe get the paper work together for the accountant for the taxes. ( Canada is end of April, for me as self-employed I can wait until mid june, but prefer sooner not later.)
I was in Buffalo teaching a workshop to some New York state midwives, some nurse-midwives and some certified midwives. Learned a bit about their system, and taught about ours and worked on emergency drills. Had a great time. And went out for chicken wings of course. A trip down memory lane, going to a bar where we went in out teens for wings and beer (underage drinking! ) We had a little ice storm here, power outages and trees down. Nothing like what Ruth went thru in Eastern Ontario a few years ago, but bad enough. Was glad to be away. Went to test drive a new vehicle today. I am getting old, and am opting for things like heated seats this time, all about my comfort. Shoulder slowly getting better, but it IS slow. Well, will lay down and nap for a bit now. Have a great weekend friends. |
Quick flyby this morning. Just wanted to share that I lost 5 lbs last week and with the 6 had lost I can say I've lost 11 lbs. Haven't done that in soooo long. Heard of another book of a woman who lost weight and has kept it off for 15 yrs doing what some of us call Intuitive Eating. She just calls it eating the way we ate as infants. It is working for me. With the new scales, I see a consistent steady weight loss. When I'm up it is usually less than a lb and I know it is because usually because I've had too much salt or have eaten out and probably got some salt that I hadn't planned on.Within a day or two, usually the next day, it is back down. So even the scales have become a blessing for me.
Y'all have a blessed Sunday |
Good morning everyone! Well the kids left this morning at 3 to take a 5 hour drive to atlanta to catch a plane back to texas. I am already missing my grand babies . Little liam was only 9 months and I had alot of grammie time. Aubrey who is 3 we had lots of fun too.
The swellen in my feet are staying away now I have to start the neuropathy meds. But all is well so I will catch back up to you all . I need to get back in to testing and eating right and loosing weight.. |
BOnnie: glad the swelling is down but I understand how you will miss the grandchildren. I expect a LOT of trips to Toronto when DD has kids. As is, I often try to see the kids in my life when things are quiet, and I loved Easter with them all. DH and I are making plans about some of the grand-nephews and nieces for time at the cottage this summer. He can't wait to do things with our 12 year old grandnephew. There is a lot to love about this man.
Well, my weight was up and down this week, but am the same now as last week, true to ticker. WOuld like to get lower. A little jealous of trish, but I must do the work to get it down. I cooked up a storm last night. Chief complaint is that DH doesn't cook supper for me, or cook appropriate stuff. So I made a low carb meatloaf, some chicken korma, and another chicken dish for us this week. We just need to do veggies or salad to go with it. The plan is for me to tell him what to reheat and what veggies we should have, and he says he will hear and obey. I did say I love this man, right? LOL Physio today, and also go back to sleep clinic for results of last testing night, 2 months ago now. I really don't get the delay in results, will have to ask about that. With everything automated now, it makes no sense. But am taking my cpap with me so I can get it taken care of immediately if there are any adjustments. DD will likely be home a couple of days this week. We will start moving stuff back in in preparation for her move home in 2 weeks. We may have a line on some summer work for her. Well, hope everyone has a good Monday. I am back on call, but not expecting to be terribly busy. I hope to do a lot of walking this week, and get back to yoga later this month. |
The grandkids and kids are home in texas now I do miss them dearly but I so enjoy the quiet in the house now. Oh man I tell you I dont know why someone didnt give me something for all the pain in my feet a long time ago when I went to the Foot specialist all he did was perscrible me a cream that my insurance dont pay for . My primary care Dr gave me something the other day and OMG I feel so much better my feet dont hurt I dont lay awake at night cause they are aching and bothering me. I atually had a peaceful night sleep I havnt had one of them in a long time.
I do have to go back wednesday to do a recheck on them but all will be ok. We have to take my aunt in the morning she has to be at the hispital at 7 am they are going to do the biopsy and we will know what is up. She was so sick last night . she was begging for it to be tuesday. I will let you all know whats up. See you all then. |
Bonnie, so glad the feet are getting back to normal and it sounds like your life is improving.
Mad, you man sounds like a gem. My friend Barb is just back from hospital and has one of those useless guys - nice man but can't boil and egg. We have been sending over meals - my turn today so I'm doing corned beef in the crockpot. By the way, I love my heated seats and so will you. Trish, I'm glad IE works for you. I am afraid I would not have willpower. My intuition tells me to just eat it if it's there. i would need a timelock on my fridge! I swear someone else lives in this house and takes things! I cannot find my blood testing stuff or my hearing aids. :( My kids used to blame Neil, an imaginary guy who lived in the basement, and I suspect he has moved back in with me. The scale has been quite co-operative with Atkins though - ticker is back! Happy Tuesday! |
Bonnie - I'm glad the doctor gave you something to help with your foot pain. What is the name of the med? It's terrible when your feet hurt!
|
Carol they put me on Gabapentin oh man I tell you I was so happy Maybe now I can start working out again!!
Aunt went and Had her biopsy done this morning . She does have a tumor they thought it may be a cyst . They said this is a very slow growing thing. They did say we will have to wait for 3 to 5 days to get the Results back to see if it is cancer or not but he said to him he believes that it is 100% cureable. So now we have towait some more and then she has to go back to her regular dr for the results and then they will send her to a pancreas surgeon . So more waiting on top of that too. Hopefully we will hear all good news. |
Bonnie Glad you got the Gabapentin and it is helping you. I took that when I had the shingles. I never could tell if it really helped, but figured that the pain would have been worse if I hadn't had it. Hope the results are good for your Aunt.
Fatmad Weight seems to slowed down coming off which isn't unusual. But the fbs is coming down really nicely. Ruthie I finally realized that I was a little nervous about trusting my body with IE. But the new book I bought and read "I've tried it all. Now what" has some rules that really helps me I think because it is really the way I ate most of my life especially when I was thin and had no weight problem. One rule that helps a lot is learning that I don't have to eat everything on my plate. I leave 3 bites of each food on my plate so I can learn to eat only as much as I need to satisfy my hunger. I'm finding I don't have to eat so much food. I eat only what I really want to eat and that helps too. Actually it is amazing that the cravings for foods I thought I wanted when forbidden I find that now I know longer want them. No desire for them any more. Slmn and others  Hi. |
Quickie as I am off to the gym.
Just wanted to say that corned beef can put three pounds of water weight onto your body overnight! **Sigh** I wish it left as fast! Lots of water on the menu today and I may throw out or freeze the leftovers. Happy Hump Day! |
....and ... low carb can take off that water weight quickly. My ticker is correct at last.
|
Wanted to say jest when I think I can get myself togeather this has to happen OMG why me!!! Had to go to the Dr today yesturday for a check up tosee how the new blood pressure meds and the neuropathy is doing and I told him about my knee killing me and popping alot I know I have arthritis but this is nothing like it and he get to looking at my knee and feeling around and tells me that I have a torn Menicus. Like oboy if rest and relaxation dont help Like I can do alot of that with all I got going on then he said they will have to give me shots and if that still dont help no recourse but surgery. Like I need one more thing on my plate.
When ever is my life gonna free up a litttle bit?? |
Bonnie - I took Gabapentin when I had shingles. I hope it helps you. I'm sorry to hear about your torn miiscus. The 2 people I knew who had that needed surgery. I can't see you resting your knee with all the things you have to do.
I'm glad to hear that the doctors think you aunt can make a full recovery. Even though she has given you a hard time in the past, I'm sure you don't want her to be in poor health. Ruth, I just love your stalk of celery! As of this morning, my ticker is telling the truth! Yay! |
