doing well
I am thrilled with myself, keeping my fitness commitments and working full time again. I went to hot yoga again today, and bought some nordic walking poles on the way home. Will try that tomorrow. Eating on plan, and hope to shift a bit more weight, and sugars are stable.
Being able to fit the exercise in is a really big deal for me. I have not been successful with this since moving out to the country almost 3 years ago. O'k, so its only been two weeks, but I'm still moving! If I can do it for two weeks, I can keep it going. ! glad to see everyone checking in. Rosebud, good for you to enjoy the sun. What a lovely day it was! |
Wish me luck, Chickies. I'm off to Florida (Disney) with son, DIL and grand daughter Tayler who is terminally excited. I'm going to keep a close eye on my BGL because eating out is going to be a bit tricky. Our condo does have a fridge and wee kitchen so I'll stock up on good stuff as soon as we settle in. At least I'll be getting lots of exercise walking in the Magic Kingdom!
I'll try to check in from there. |
That sounds like a "Dream" vacation to me, we love Disneyland here in California but have never been to Florida. Lots of walking will help keep the carbs down too, thank goodness.
Doris |
RUTH ~ have a great time on your trip to Florida; I think you have made good arrangements ahead of time, so that you'll be OK ... :D
We had another gorgeous :sunny: day today too; really nice even though it was a bit cooler. We went up town for our weekly shopping; just picked up a few essentials. Got some walking in at the same time. I felt a bit hungry today for some unknown reason; will have to see if eating a bit more a BF will help that tomorrow. Am doing well so far this month; still on plan and no junkies ... yeah!:carrot: Have a wonderful Wednesday! |
Hi chicks! I had a dr's appt this week and found out my a1c is 6.5, and my cholesterol level is much lower than last time. my dr want me to walk 30 minutes a week 5 days a week so i have to really step it up with exercise.
i have a question. have any of you ever had trouble with an ingrown toenail? i have one and it is very painful. my dr checked it and said if its still hurting in a few days, after trying to clip the nail at home, come back in. i had a fresh pedicure and he couldn't see exactly where the nail was pushing through. i've been using an otc med for a few days now w/ no progress. |
HI TIMOBA ~ yes, it's true that WALKING really can help to bring those numbers down, eps if you walk in the evening. Sorry you have an issue with your toe nail -- I have one that likes to wrap itself around the top of my toe which makes it quite hard to trim too; but it doesn't hurt, thank goodness.
This thing just started up in the last few years; before that all my nails were normal. Now, they seem to be doing all kinds of weird things; I guess it's the aging process ... the only remedy I used was to trim my nails more often. That's working for now, but who knows about down the road. My DH had to have minor surgery on one of his: he had another nail or growth growing out of the end of his middle toe ... sorry if that is TMI ... Doesn't that make you feel a bit better? ;) Our sunny streak has finally ended, but we sure enjoyed it whilst it lasted. Hope you all have a very pleasant day today ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Well Chicks thought I would take some time to drop by =) I haven't been doing too bad staying away from the sugars and carbs and my BSL have been really stable between 5.9 and 5.6. However, a little I over a week ago I developed a pain in my foot .. I couldn't bare weight on my left foot! I had no injury to it so I was certainly perplexed. After going to a walkin clinic and having xrays compleated it would appear that I have a bone spur =) Just my luck =) I had finally gotten into a routine going to the greenhouse and curves and eating well and poof .. no exercise for the past week. Well in inflamation has gone done so I am going to attempt to go back to curves. I have to to .. I need it and crave it. I have been trying to get my neighbour to go out walking with me but so far ... we have yet to click. Do any of you know how to deal with a bone spur while exercising?? I dont know what set it off but dang it hurt.
On a lighter side .. I have five new foster kittens =) They are about 5 weeks old and adorable =) I love to watch them zoom around and play. So the kitten season is upon us =) Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I am dreading my next appointment with my doc .. we just dont seem to like each other. But I dont need to see her regarding my BSL .. thank god. |
@peatpod: Sorry about your foot :( I hope it gets sorted for you!
Today is a great day. I just found out that I am getting DSA (disabled students allowance) for University, so I will have access to all sorts of extra help and specialist tutors to help me with my (for now, suspected ADD), dyspraxia and my dyslexic tendancies! I'm so excited! I also went to bed last night with a bsl of 8.4 and woke up this morning with a 6.5! I am soooo happy! I have been really high at night, but it seems to be coming down a bit! Going to pick up some Orange Juice at the grocery store today, so I don't have to eat two tootsie rolls before bedtime with my Lantus! lol <3 :) wheeee! |
peatpod: i'd look at some dr scholl orthotics or maybe see about some fitted ones, this may be happening from some unusualy pressure from the extra exercise you are getting and something to relieve that will help with exercise again. You may need to switch to something not weight bearing for a bit, like stationary (or not so stationary) biking. I hope to get the bike out tomorrow for a bit.
I have been MIA for a few days, my mother suffered a major stroke on Tuesday evening and passed away the next night. Dad called and we were able to see her and support him. A diabetics nightmare, stress, a sudden trip and what and where to eat. How to stay on plan.... I managed it, but haven't had the urge to eat off plan so badly in ages. But I did stick to plan but didn't exercise much, a few short walks in the neighbourhood. Then a couple of days of beginning to sort through mum's stuff. She was always a bit of a keeper, but became a dedicated packrat with her dementia, so we have a lot of work cut out for us. So though I am sad that she is gone, I am also relieved. Her dementia made her very angry and abusive, and I feel like I lost my mother this time last year, so have been grieving her loss for a while. With her death, and going through her things, we are reminded of the real mum. The thanks from the families of friends for all she did for them, and the correspondence from friends is so lovely, we have enjoyed it all immensely. Dad is doing ok, and enjoying this phase of reaquainting himself with the woman he loved too. I am not sleeping well, lots of disturbed nights and long days, but will take something soon to help with that. hope everyone is doing ok, |
ARGH, have been fighting a binge all day, not the first time for that, ate some healthy stuff. went for a walk, came home and at half a bag of chips and an ice cream cone. Good thing, I am used to eating less, so I have stopped, and feel stuffed already, but went wayyy off plan. I know why, but I wanted to get thru this hard time without using food as a crutch, but no energy to cook or think. Feel exhausted. blech.
|
 Eating is certainly not on plan but blood is fine and I'm sure getting lots of walking exercise! This is fun. I hope all are well.
|
Ruth, its nice you were able to check in.
Had a binge last night, but not total junk after the ice cream, nuts and olives and cheeses, a bit off plan but not too bad. Back to atkins induction today. My fbs was fine inspite of last night, but don't want the added stress of highs and lows so will be very careful. I DO plan to be a bit off plan the day of the funeral next saturday, will definitely be have a couple of drinks at the wake. A wake is a family tradition, I just have to figure out how to make it ok for me. off for a nap then a walk. |
MADELEINE ~ we are sorry to hear of your Mom's passing; and prayers going up for you and your family during this time. It is very stressful; just try and do your best, but don't be too hard on yourself. Remember to eat some regular foods first thing (your regular meals) and that might stave off any munching.
My mom passed away 17 years ago this June; it sounds like such a long time, but just like yesterday too. We had that call and had to drive all night over four hundred miles to attend her funeral (as she died unexpectedly and quickly of an aneurysm in her lung). DH's mom had alzheimer's and didn't know who we were for some time; she would talk to us and about us like we were strangers and that hurt DH a lot. He was also relieved when she passed as she was very weak by that time; and he didn't want her to suffer anymore. We had lovely :sunny: for a day and half; so we went for a nice long drive today to one of our favorite lakes. We had a nice roast beef dinner with lots of veggies. I wasn't perfect this weekend, but not really bad either; hanging in their with OK eating. Tomorrow will be much better as I tackle putting all our Christmas decos into some large totes we bought for a bargoon this weekend. We wanted something they would be protected in and wanted to cut down on the number of boxes; this is the perfect solution. Hope you all have a wonderful week coming up; do take good care ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Mad, I am so sorry to read of your mother's passing. My heart goes out to you. Be gentle with yourself.
Today is my second last day of eating crud! There is just not a lot of good stuff at Disney! I hate the thought of the scale on Thursday morning but..... BGL has been OK, probably from all the walking but..... Lots of buts in here but...I have had a great time. Home by tomorrow night. :cheer: |
Hello All,
I'm new to 3FC but not the diabetes. I was diagnosed with type 2, 8 years ago. I had a handle on it with strictly diet but now I'm on metformin 500 mg X2. Started Atkins induction 12 days ago, lost 9 pounds but just can not handle that low of a carb diet so back to what my dietitian recommended 8 years ago. Just doing the diabetic diet using the exchange charts. When first diagnosed I lost lots and kept it off for 3 years but things happened in life and I turned to food for comfort :( Now I'm back on track to eating healthy! Always looking for a great diabetic recipe too! |
:welcome: MEMOREE ~ nice to have you join us here. I have the Atkin's NEW Diet Revolution Book; and I too find the Inductions plan way too strict for me. I just know that I wouldn't be able to stick too it for any length of time, so I tried to do a 1-2 meals a day with lower grain/starch carbs and that is working better for me. Over the weekend, I seemed very hungry though and ate a bit more; it was good stuff, but I just at more than usual.
Anyways, I will take the good from his suggestions and add them to what I was already doing and keep on going as I am making some progress, esp with inches and sizes as I can really notice that my clothes are getting looser and that is a victory to me. If I keep this up, I will make my goals just the same, and eating in a style that I can keep up for the longterm. RUTH ~ glad to hear you are having a great time down at Disney ... that's the whole point of going there -- for the experience and pleasure of it. You can pick up with healthier eating as soon as you get home. Hope all our friends here are well. We are having just awesome weather here: nice and :sunny: for 3 days in row ... what a blessing. I kinda overdid it a bit this weekend and yesterday packing my Christmas decos in some giant totes we picked up on sale, so I had to have a complete day of rest today. I even fell asleep this afternoon too. We had fish and baked fries (I had sweet potato fries), with coleslaw, tomatoes, and baby cukes for dinner tonight, so I am back in line again. Take good care and have a great day tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow1: |
rosebud and memoree: I went backward to atkins induction, and just kept lowering my carbs, and making sure the carbs I do get are low glycemic.
I just couldn't do the number of grams of carbs the dietition recommended to me (even low glycemic carbs) and still have ok blood sugars, so I cut down to 100 g, then 60 g to get better weight loss, and now I am between 20-30 g to kick up the weight loss. Its working, and the sugars and smoothly stable, no highs, no lows. I am between 5.0 and 6.0 every time I test, fbs, ac, pc, etc. so nice. but I couldn't have done it right away. |
:welcome: Memoree. Nice to see another "sugar baby" joining us.
I was in bed by 7:30 yesterday after a long day that started at 4 AM. I loved the trip and did more walking than I've ever done in my life! No scale damage despite poor eating so I guess it balanced out. I'm hoping a day or two of clean food will make my ticker truthful again. (I stocked up on produce on the way home yesterday. ) Glorious sunrise right now although it's sure colder than Florida. ;) Tomorrow is going to be very cold and it's the day I sit outside and sell daffodils for the Cancer Society! I hope my fat "insulation" still works. Happy Thursday. |
Hi, all. Our weather has been exteme. 75 degrees one day, cold and rainy the next. I'm very cranky due to severe sleep deprivation and I can't get in to see the sleep doctor until May. Had a blood test today for celiac disease to see if that's the cause of my anemia. Between the sleep and anemia, I'm am too tired to do anything. I'm eating way too many carbs, but can't stop myself.
Ruth: Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation. Glad all that walking counteracted the off program eating. By the way, what part of Italy are you going to in October? |
thank you all for the welcomes.
I think I'm gonna like it here :dizzy: |
RUTH ~ nice to have you back with us again; glad that you had a great time and with no WL damage either. Wow, what a lucky lady you are -- going off to Italy in the fall as well! Have you ever been to Paris, France; I always thought that might be a nice city to see as well.
MADELEINE ~ that sounds like a good idea: to start with 100 grams of carbs and work my way downwards. A long time ago, a friend of mine lost weight on 60 grams a day, so I know that could work. I think that might work better for me in the long run; so thanks for the suggestion. We are having very cold weather up here right now too ~ it's -10 C right this minute; but we did have beautiful :sunny: all day long, so that made it seem much warmer. Like others though ... we had some ferocious winds last night and this morning -- they woke me out of my sleep in the middle of the night. Plus we found our garbage can rolling around on the street in the morning, but DH managed to rescue it before it got damaged or lost or hit by passing vehicles ... They are predicting a really cold -16 C for us tonight so I just turned up the furnace a bit ... :brr: Hope you all have a fabulous Friday tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow1: |
anemia
Rosettastone, I don't know what iron supplement you are taking, there are two that I recommend that have been helpful.
One is palafer CF, its iron with vitamin c and folate, and the combo helps your uptake of iron. The other is liquid floradix, which is an herbal supplement, and is quite expensive, but seems to work brilliantly. It is usually found in health food stores, is from Germany. I myself have sleep apnea (I love the biggest loser, seeing how everyone has a cpap machine in their bedrooms....) and do find that the breathe right nasal strips do help. I hope you don't have to drive for work. When I was chronically sleep deprived I had to stop driving for a bit, it got dangerous, especially on longer drives. I hope you can get into a sleep clinic soon, sometimes if you tell them you can come in on a moments notice if they get a cancellation, you can get in sooner. If you ever get chest pain, be sure to tell them and your doctor to bump you up in the schedule too. I am having a very bad day today, have been grumpy and on the verge of tears all day. have gone off call for the weekend now, and am just gonna let grief take over. eating off plan again, hope I can back to it. GOnna go back to 60g carbs again for the weekend until the funeral is over, no need to lose weight, just get through the weekend I think |
Rosetta, sorry you have sleep problems to deal with. Fatmad's advice may get you an appointment sooner. I love Italy and have been there several times. This time I will be in an old hill town, Amelia in Umbria, for the week but may extend my tour a bit after the course.
Rosebud, I adore Paris! We have your wind and cold weather today and I need to sell daffodils OUTSIDE late this afternoon. Oh joy! We may have to cancel as it'll be flower freezing weather. Memoree, glad you like it here. We do have some recipes posted. I use lots of the Phase I recipes in the South Beach Forum too as they are all diabetic friendly. Spinach and chick peas will be happening tonight. Mad, I will be thinking of you as you get through this weekend. As I said before, be gentle with yourself - tears are a good thing. The scale is cooperating at last and I'm down to 193 this morning after a day of clean eating. At my meeting last night, they had brownies AND birthday cake! What are people thinking these days? One of the good things about being diabetic is you can just say no. Some people still insist but I ignore them. Busy day ahead so I need to get going. See y'all soon. |
Hi, all. Sunny but chilly here. Slept better last night than I have in a long time. Makes all the difference in my outlook.
Fatmad - losing your mom is a major trauma and it will take awhile to come to terms with it. Don't worry too much about what you're eating right now, just allow yourself to grieve, and as Ruth says, be gentle on yourself. Thanks for the info about the iron supplements. That german one sounds interesting. I'll look for it. As for the sleep md., I've asked them to call me if they have a cancellation. If he wants to do any testing, there will be another delay in getting insurance authorization. Ruth - That trip sounds wonderful. The only parts of Italy I've been to are the Lake Como region, Milan and the Riviera. I long to see Venice. I also love Paris. Was there a long time ago and I would love to go back. Good for you resisting the sweets at the meeting. Being diabetic is good for something. I once used it to jump the line at a restaurant. lol. Have a good weekend everyone. |
Drat! 2.3 this morning.....and I know why. After sitting in the below freezing temps yesterday selling daffodils, Rob and I warmed up with a bottle of red wine. Had a proper breakfast and feel more normal now. I won't be doing that again for a while. :nono:
|
:hug:MADELEINE ~ will send up some prayers for comfort for you during this weekend; it will take some time to grieve your mom's loss. At first, you are in shock, then as some time goes by, it hits you -- then you really begin the grieving process, which is a good thing ... Yes, just trying to maintain right now is a great idea!
RUTH ~ I see a pattern there -- have wine, BSL dips in the AM ... I can't really blame you and Rob for trying to keep warm whilst selling those daffodils. I always want to get some but seem they seem to miss us for some reason. I haven't seen anyone selling them around here yet; not sure why as they announced they would be, but just not WHERE!!! :?: HI ROSETTA ~ hope you can get some help with that anemia and your sleep apnea very soon. I sent up some prayers for you, so I'm glad you got a little better sleep too ... :D Well, old man winter paid us a visit overnight and today: we got a steady stream of ***** all day long as well. It is quite light right now, but it is pushing towards 2" right now, but the temps held at 0 C all day. That's not too bad really; we were very spoiled this month, so can't complain really. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Happy last week of March. April should definitely be Spring unless March sneaks back with her normal weather of cold and snow. Easter weekend looks glorious!
Ticker is being truthful this morning and BGL was good today. Now to carry on! Italy, here I come! |
RUTH ~ glad everythings back in order, but you did very well really ... :D
We had a good day; just did stuff at home and some personal pampering for the day. That's nice to just take a day and give yourself some attention just for fun (manicure, pedicure, hair, etc). We ended up with about 3" of snow the other night but it finally stopped by yesterday afternoon, and was all clear by the time we went to bed. We had a lovely :sunny: day today and there's a big, beautiful moon out there again: nice and close too. We are supposed to get sunshine all this week, so that should take care of any of the remaining snow out there. Hope you all have a terrific day tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow1: |
back from the funeral
Its a short work week for me, just 3 days, and then a long weekend off, but a lot to cram in there. I was feeling stiff and sore on the drive back, so stopped at the chiropractor for an emergency appointment and then went to hot yoga for some stretching. got so relaxed at the end of class, the tears were flowing, but not noticeable since the sweat was dripping too.
Ate quite badly on Saturday and Sunday, off plan today but a balanced diet. I will need lots of support to get back on track I think. I'm not blaming myself, but am worried about the cravings getting to me. TOO many carbs and chocolates. Dad will visit for Saturday and Sunday, first holiday without mum and his birthday to boot. A friend and her son will also be visiting, so it will be good to have some younger kids for us to hide eggs etc. The weather is fabulous, and that helps, getting out for a walk in the sun will be good and I plan it every day. love to all, thanks for every kind word. madeleine |
 MADELEINE ~ that was a tuff weekend to get through -- when we went thru my mom's funeral, I felt like I was in a warped time zone. Just before going into the funeral home, I asked DH for a reality check, "Is this really happening?" And, he said, "Yes, it is really happening; and I know how you feel too, becuz I had that same feeling when my first wife died." I think some of us were still kinda all in shock at that stage.
It hit me more after we came home. Don't worry about the tears, that is all part of the grieving process ~ you will find yourself crying at the oddest places and times. I had a beautiful dream about my mom a while after she passed: she came to show us that she was in a heavenly place, where she and others were living -- it was very comforting. I think that is a great idea to spend the Easter weekend with your Dad and your friends; I think that will help you get through this time even better. I have had those off plan times, and it would take me about a week to get back on track perfectly. Just take it one day, one meal, and one snack at a time. I found writing down what I ate really helpful at those times too. I think we have a nice shoulder ham in the freezer for Easter as we had turkey at Christmas; gonna have a look tomorrow to make sure I'm correct or I will have to go back to get one. When we were at the grocery store today, I noticed the "closed" days sign on the door. BTW, I was able to get some sugar-free Chapman's ice cream today. They just started carrying it and they just had one left but the girl found me a maple walnut one on the skid she was unpacking. So I will be trying it out to see how I like it. I will try the vanilla one next time; so far, they just carry two flavors. Since it is one of my favorite desserts, it is nice to finally have that here. I picked up a whole chicken for dinner and am cooking it with piles of veggies including a peppernut squash which were on sale for about $1.00 each today. First time trying them; hope I'm baking it right. I cut it in half; cleaned out the seeds, then put it cut side down on a glass baking dish with a bit of water in it. We had another lovely :sunny: day -- it was quite windy and cold this AM, but by this afternoon, it was getting much warmer so I was able to sit on the deck with NIKO for awhile. Then I came in to put my legs up to rest as I got lots of walking in today too. Hope you are all well and having a great Easter week ... Rosebud  |
getting back on track
Did ok today, did about 80 g carbs, sugars are a bit high, but coming down.
Tomorrow will try for 60 g and keep it there for the rest of the week. Got out for some fresh air and a short walk with the dog. Will tune into the biggest loser for a bit tonight to get re-inspired I think. Too tired to go out. Feeling exhausted, even though I slept well last night. Such nice weather, hope I can enjoy it more tomorrow. thanks |
Mad, "firsts" are difficult and this one is so close to your Mother's passing. I hope the family time helps.
Rosebud, we were very cold here yesterday - the wind more than the temperatures. I was back in my winter jacket. :( Well, March has been so gentle that he must have figured he needed to go out like a lion just to keep his reputation. No snow all month was a miracle. Weight still holding steady (darn it!) and BGL finally stable. This weekend will be a bit of a challenge. I am trying very hard to not make eye contact with chocolate bunnies and Cadbury mini-eggs! I am going to my friends' house for Easter Dinner and will watch my portions. Margo is a terrific cook so I'll have to be strong. I am skipping the church Seder Supper tomorrow night although my chicken stew turned out really well. Happy Hump Day to us all. |
well I did get on the treadmill for part of biggest loser, and fast forwarded through most of it, so only watched tv for about 45 minutes over all. Will have friends and family around all weekend so am planning meals for me, they can just add carbs like potatoes or rice. I will make some low carb desserts too or I will feel deprived when all the chocolate is around. Can't have that.
Rosebud, how far north are you to still have it snowing? We get frost overnight, but very warm sunny days now. Going to the trail with the dog after work today. have a good day everyone |
