Unhappy Help please...

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I think this area would be of benefit for me. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was pregnant, unfortunately my doctor thinks I was diabetic before my pregnancy but it was never treated.

During my pregnancy I took excellent control of my sugar levels and didn't need any medication. I gave birth 16m ago and to be honest, I wasn't monitoring my sugar and I was eating everything. I want to leave those bad habits behind and take better care of myself to be able to enjoy my son to the fullest. That's why I joined WW six days ago and I have been checking my sugar levels since yesterday.

This morning after breakfast I got a reading of 215 and I ate exactly the same as I did yesterday when I got a 148 after breakfast...Any suggestions? How can be possible? I'm a little bit down since I hate to see those numbers.

Thank you for reading.

Um...why are you testing after breakfast? Most of us take a reading first thing in the morning when you will probably see lower numbers. Post-prandial readings vary depending on what was eaten and are usually taken 1 to 2 hours after a meal. Both those numbers are in a normal range for after a meal.

Have you been tested for diabetes since your pregnancy?

There is lots of info in this section of the Forum and also a chat thread where we discuss problems and successes. Come and join us in the daily chat thread.

Thanks, Ruth.

Yes, my Doctor believes that I was diabetic before my pregnancy but never knew it. I'm just following what I was doing when I was pregnant, testing myself in the morning (fasting) and 2 hours after each meal.

I'll take a look to the daily chat, thanks for letting me know.

One of the most frustrating things about diabetes I think is that it often doesn't make any sense. Were your readings the same before breakfast on each morning? My levels were all over the place at first, with mornings (fasting) being my most difficult levels to get under control. Since you had such good control while pregnant I suspect you have a good idea of what you need to do. Hopefully your numbers will eventually settle down, and make some sort of sense. Good luck!

Thanks!

I decided not to get upset about thse highs and eventually, like you said, my numbers are better. WW is helping me, I'm eating things that I like and my after meals numbers are really good.

i love ww...my only complaint is that they do not have a program for diabetics...it would be an immense help if they could add some sort of 'carb counter" to the tracking program. other than that, i love it.

when i first started, i was always hungry..but now that i know which foods to get my calories from i am NEVER hungry...in fact i usually have leftover calories every day, and i never use those extra 35 points they give you to spend every week...

doggirl -
my morning bgl levels are still my highest readings. i can't seem to get them under control either. they usually run in the between 100-120. oddly enough, my low readings are always in the afternoon before lunch and dinner..

Not at all unusual, Chickies, having high morning readings is one of my favourite tricks, too . . . go have a read of this . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156416 . . . and don't worry about it too much or the stress may make you go even higher.

So far I have been able to control my BGL with the WW plan, I think because of the portion control (I use to eat like a beast hehehe). It took me a little bit to try to adjust my recipes to the plan but I ended up saying goodbye to most of them when I found out that they were no healthy at all ( I come from a big carbs/starchy culture) plus I have been a sugar junkie all my life.

Let's see if I can do as good as you with your weight loss.

Meowee, I really enjy reading all the information that you bring here. Thanks for the post about Magic Foods and the one about the highs in the morning.
