Question will cymbalta make me fatter?!

hi, i am pretty new here on the depression forum. i have been in the calorie counters forum for a few months now. anyway, i lost my husband almost 2 yrs ago, so to say that i am depressed in an understatement. i have suffered from mild to severe depression and anxiety most of my life. it's only after i suffered some severe post partum depression in 2000 that i started taking meds for it. i was on zoloft and thrived on it for a long time. then it wore off and i was prescribed cymbalta. i haven't taken it regularly yet b/c when i have tried taking it, it made me sick to my stomach. but, i REALLY need it. the stress and depression of being a widow raising children is tough!!! so, i am excited about taking the cymbalta. the thing is...i don't want to gain any extra weight on it. the dr says it won't happen, but i don't trust drs
any of you been on cymbalta before? do any of you know if cymbalta leads to weight gain? i would love any advice!!! thanks!!

I lost weight when I started it. I didn't want to lay around all the time anymore and I got moving. Best of luck

My husband is on cymbalta for diabetic neuropathy (besides being an antidepressant, it helps reduce nerve pain) and he lost about ten lbs on it when he first started taking it, because it not only made his stomache a bit sensitive at first, it changed how food tasted, he said. The side effects did go away, and while he didn't lose any more weight on it, he didn't gain any.

Hi Gabriel

First let me say how sorry I am to hear about your DH

Its tought to say you won't or will gain weight on new meds because they are such an individual thing. I for one have not heard any negative info on Cymbalta

Good luck with them and please let us know how they work out for you.

Hugs and Kisses, Leenie

Cymbalta is a weight neutral drug. As mentioned above, if anything you might lose weight just from being more active because you are up and doing things.

My DH took Cymbalta for pain/insommnia for awhile too, and he didn't gain any weight from it.
